CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The girl (Marilyn Monroe) explains that she likes the shy guys.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Like thousands of other Manhattanites, Tom Ewell annually packs his wife (Evelyn Keyes) and children off to summer vacation, staying behind to work at the office. This particular summer, the lonely Ewell begins fantasizing about the many women he'd foresworn upon getting married (in one of the fantasies, Ewell and Marguerite Chapman parody the beach rendezvous in From Here to Eternity). He is jolted back to reality when he meets his new neighbor--luscious model Marilyn Monroe. Inviting Monroe to dinner, Ewell intends to sweep her off her feet and into the boudoir. Things don't quite work out that way, thanks to Ewell's clumsiness (and essential decency) and Monroe's naivete. Still, Ewell becomes convinced that his impure thoughts will somehow be transmitted to his vacationing wife and to the rest of the world, leaving him wide open for scandal and ruination. In the original play, the husband and the next-door neighbor did have an affair, but both play and film arrived at the same happy ending, with Ewell and his missus contentedly reunited at summer's end. Featured in the cast of The Seven Year Itch are Robert Strauss as a lascivious handyman, Sonny Tufts as Evelyn Keye's former beau, Donald MacBride as Ewell's glad-handing boss, and veteran Broadway funny man Victor Moore in a cameo as a nervous plumber.

Fun fact about this scene : the crew were worried prior to filming this scene because it was quite a long monologue for Marilyn and they thought it would take forever to film this since Marilyn had trouble memorizing her lines and she was never satisfied with her performance. However , she surprised them! The scene we see in the film is the one and only take they did. It was so brilliant and acted with such sensitivity that when she finished the cast and crew started applauding. When they asked her how she did it in one take without forgetting her lines she responded " because I believe every word I said " . Dear Marilyn , you will never be forgotten. Thank you for showing the world and teaching me personally that dignity , decency and integrity always prevail! You were love , dignity , courage and elegance personified. May you be eternally resting in peace.
great comment 👍
@@iconslegends5230 thank you :)
Beautifully Put. My thoughts as well

I just read the exact same thing yestreday in the book "Marilyn Among Friends". Same thing, described by 7YI film writer George Alexford.
Her acting was so good here!!!
wickedfeylady yes!
I wish the world treated Marilyn better. She was one of a kind.
Yes. If only this filthy tomcat Kennedy left her alone instead of taking advantage of her and killing her when they were finished.
Her monologue is very powerful. He is coming up with all these fantasies of 'The Girl' but in reality she is enjoying his company, having fun wuth no nefarious intentions and giving him some real female perspective. Such a well written play and ahead if it's time in many ways.
Billy Wilder interviewed said that this brilliant dialog WAS Marilyn's idea, and how he thought it was touching and real enough to put it on screen.
Marilyn was also true to herself and these words reflect exactly how she felt about the men she loved and married.
Pity she died so young because after acting, had she survived her demons, a brilliant career as director was awaiting for her.
Gio Brun do you have a reference?
i love that
Gio Brun proof?
i love the way she talks, its super unique and nothing ive ever seen before
Yes i could listen to her talking for hours.her voice is like honey, really sweet and soothing like a calm sea.her voice is so carressing.
I like her real voice too.
Damn, Marilyn is timeless. Everything about her is timeless. If you had never heard of her before and saw a picture of her you wouldnt think it was taken in the mid 20th century.
The quality of the films i have are surprisingly good, even better then movies nowadays
Right?!
"But there's another guy in the room, over in the corner. Maybe he's nervous, and shy, and perspiring a little. First, you look past him. But then you sense that he's gentle and kind and worried. That he'll be tender with you, nice and sweet" This gets me every time. 😢
Stacy Wood
It will just lead to a lot of disappointment. Trust me, I am that guy. :-P
Just described a 'nice guy' :D
Deidara "Nice guys" are only nice so you sleep with them. Marilyn was describing a guy who's actually nice.
Yes very sweet and moving
This is cute and all, but doesn't he realise the hypocrisy of this own complaint? "No pretty girl wants me." He's complaining that they only want handsome guys, but he's only worried about getting pretty girls.
Shup
ok.
serst35 He's a 1950's man what did you expect ?
serst35 this is kind of brilliant
nice guy syndrome fam
Sigh! What a goddess. Why did she have to die? One of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood. I adore her.
Norman Valiao She died because, like Robin Williams and Judy Garland, she spent her life trying to entertain people and make them happy, but forgot to take care of themselves.
thatoneguy..Never a truer word spoken my friend. 😢
Truly gifted, wonderful human beings.
It was her fault she overdosed but it's just what Hollywood does to people.
Norman Valiao , I agree with you
Bc the globalists wanted her dead so they had her sacrificed for their stupid believes.
She doesn't blink for her entire shy-guy monologue... impressive. I love her
52 seconds without a blink by my calculation. Very impressive!!
How is this 1955 and the quality is so good?
CinemaScope.
because 'quality' isn't an invention of the last five minutes.
Remastered
It’s Remastered.
@@dieterwashere ChemaScope, but ya??
Marilyn is an iconic genius. She’s very intelligent and beautiful!
There's nobody more beautiful than Marilyn.
Marilyn Monroe is the most beautiful in the world
Well they'll still be saying that a century from now...
I swear the first time I saw this movie I swore she was saying delicate and said that doesn’t make sense. Then realized 4 watches in she was saying elegant.
God she was absolutely magnificent is this scene, her delivery, charm, emotive beauty...she's just magical. If only Hollywood appreciated the absolute angel that was Marilyn Monroe instead of preying on her insecurities and reducing her to her beauty and body. This world never deserved you dear Marilyn...
"I think Marilyn💋 is just elegant"
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Luv💓MM💋4ever...
Chris J. Plamondon I absolutely agree!💖💖💖💖💋💋🌹🌹
I'm surrounded by HEARTS!!!!
Spoken with honest, heartfelt and true conviction.....this scene with sweet Marilyn always makes me shed a tear ❤
She was so pretty

Speaking the truth.
I love you so much.
I know you lived way before my time, but every time I watch you I end up crying.
🤧😢💔
Marilyn is me, and i'm her in my own way. And i'm tattooied
She was a Great actress.
So sad she doubted herself so much and seeked validation from everyone else.
Self doubt can be very destructive.
fantastic and wonderful Marilyn Monroe
My favorite actress.
A blonde plumber? Lolol xDD
Filmed in one take. “Because she believe every word.” 💗
Marilyn Monroe was a Beautiful Angel! 💗💗💗👄👄👗👗
Such a beautiful, sweet lady.
Anybody: *breathes*
Marylin: I think you are just *elegant*
This scene is so cute .. I have no words 💞
Nice but I don't think there is a logical way or rules of why a girl would love a certain guy not another. I guess it's a matter of choice & personal preferences, some like shy, some like bold & strong but kind in personality, unfortunately shy guys are not usually great protectors to their partners.
She looks like tinkerbell💕
There's another guy in the room. And he's got diamonds 😂
My God!
*launches into song*
if only hollywood wasn't so cruel to marilyn, she would've kept on improving herself to become a versatile star. she would have prove herself to hollywood she's ahead of her time with everything going on dirty in the showbiz industry. :
she is so beautiful in this movie
She is always beautiful ☺
Miss you Tom. You were amazing in this role. See you in Heaven Buddy.
They say he’s supposed to be quite average but I think he’s alright looking and got a certain charm to him 🤷♀️
Miss you Marilyn.
I cried watching this scene because I relate to it
That kiss was magical! I feel like such a kid watching this and squealing with excitement. 😍
Marilyn is my icon, I love her, I've seen every one of her movies, but I think putting her into this kind of movie made her look like a homewrecker and not caring if he was married. Hollywood really used her bad.
She did that in real life
This is a great scene!
Legendary Marilyn 💋
Queen of icons
Richard's Apt. (This movie set name)

groovy, man.
She was to beautiful!!
She is an angel
amo esta pelicula ....amo a marilyn monroe...... NUNCA HABRA OTRA COMO ELLA......
well now i really wonder how marilyn monroe would have looked in a film with gregory peck
Maybe in this movie she wasn’t playing a real character but an imaginary one ( the girl has no name, I think it’s all in Richard’s mind).
🤗
I went from finding this cringy to being interested in seeing the movie, from your comnent!
Marlyn Monroe beautiful red lipstick 💄💋
This is still my favorite movie. An odd choice is what most people tell me, but I just love it! Especially the primate mating period translated for the human primate of 7 years. I always found it fascinating.
Its during this scene that "Marilyn the Actress" comes forth.
man was she beautiful!!!
I love her
the movie name is the seven year itch it was shot in 1955 , 7 years later she died.thaatssss creepy
SM peace 1954
ewwwwwwwwwww i hate that they must've predicted honestly
That's me in the corner....
That's me in the spotlight (?)
I LOVE MARILYN MONROE ...I LOVE THIS MOVIE...
Pt ce atît de frumoasă ?A avut numai urîți în jur.
She's sweet, but in the modern world today she's not at accurate or practical. Why if someone as sweet as her were to see the world today there'd be tears in those beautiful blue eyes as she cries herself to sleep every night knowing what the world's become.
💕 Lets appreciate actors we have today instead of crying praises after there death.
LOVELY WOMAN ‼️LOVELY VOICE 👌 FANTASTIC ❗👍
00:58 - Mathbonus (The Chain Gang of 1974 - Sleepwalking remix) brought me here
Marlyn came up with this line...but in her own life she always went with the biggest, most famous, most successful Alpha Male that she could possibly find. Joe DiMaggio (and JFK) was not the quiet guy in the corner whom nobody noticed. But the scene was brilliant in terms of pleasing the fantasies of the male audience.
There’s a close up of this on Facebook, MM face , she’s sooo beautiful it’s breathtaking
Hail Marilyn ♥️
she's too gorgeous for him 😍
Sarah, didn't you hear a thing she said?
No. She is not.
Outubro?
Can someone download this movie already please? We're not in the 50's anymore and I have never watched it 🙄😭
LMAO, buy it. 20th Century Fox owns the movie; it's not "public domain". Not being the 1950s anymore has nothing to do with it.
오직 하나 믿을뿐
The shy guy is very successful with woman I'm sure
omg❤️
What would the girl’s name be?
Blonde plumber? Ahahahahhahahahah
This is really a great scene. I heard that she wrote it in herself. All this time, I always wondered what women saw in me that approached me first. My wife of 9 yrs approached me. What did she see in me. Watch the Seven Year Itch and find the answer.
I been a fan of Marilyn since 1998. I had the opportunity to see her in crypt as well as the mirror at the Roosevelt in 2007.
I have a personal story I want to share about Marilyn. It may come across as random, but I feel I been inspired to share. This may be a bit lengthy, so apologize in advance. I recently came in contact with two mediums regarding my parents. I feel the results for both readings were positive and on spot of both my parents.
The session I had with my mother. I asked the medium about a second person. That person was none other than Marilyn Monroe. However, I have my reasons why I am going to refer to her as Norma Jeane Baker.
The reason I brought her up was what really drew me to her? I all of a sudden grew a liking of her, within weeks after my mother's passing in 1998. My mother had nothing against her, just boom out of nowhere. I was 21 at the time. I had seen a picture of her and I fell in love since. A picture of her as a brunette to be exact. My father thought it was weird, I thought it was weird.
I had numerous of dreams with her in them, all of which almost randomly. One of them was her as a brunette. It was weird, it didn't necessarily look like her, but my brain registered that it was the image of her. Another dream I was walking somewhere and happened to see her. Words were exchanged, in which I can't remember if it was her or me that said it, but I heard "see you later." I remember waking up and falling asleep again, sure enough the prophecy was true, I saw her again. In fact I seen her 2 more times that night. Another dream I onced had, I happened to see her and she simply said that I was beautiful.
From what I told the medium, and I wasn't as detailed as I was here, she came to the conclusion that to me, I communicate to her through God (or visa versa). The medium had thought this was really cool. I wanted to follow through more into this, but didn't think about it. I asked someone who I work with who had paranormal experiences. Basically she stated that Norma Jeane could be my guardian angel.
It's funny because, around the time I met with the first medium, I thought about this. I randomly did a web search of guardian angels. One struck my eye and I opened it. According to what the website said a person's guardian angel is based on the time you were born. I clicked my birthdate and it described what my guardian angel was. It even had a picture of the image what they may appear as. I thought Wow, was I meant to see this!!! It was a picture of a blonde woman in a red dress. There are perhaps thousands of photographs of Norma Jeane wearing red dresses, swimsuits, sweaters, even as a brunette.
During our conversation about Norma Jeane, I heard something fall from behind me. I was in New Mexico visiting some family and was on my Godaughter's bed. It was the only place that I had privacy. All there were was stuffed animals on the bed. When I looked back, it looked like nothing was tweaked with. When I heard the item fall, it seemed to me that it wasn't a mechanism to scare me, but to say hi, I see you.
The next day I told the medium about that, she thought it was really cool.
On Easter I was talking with a cousin about the experience I had with Norma Jeane. I didn't necessarily tell her who it was, I showed her a picture. She had a gut feeling that was who I was talking about. I gave her some clues regarding Norma Jeane. I didn't mention any movies, nor did I say she was blonde. My cousin had thought I said blonde.
1:23 well she doesn't fall in her face
Watching these clips of Marilyn makes me realise than women today has lost their allure.
She is talking about me
I become Marilyn Monroe and nobody believes me
1:09
Because she's Marilyn, that's why
Shes 100% right this is what alot of girls want
How tedious, and from a Billy Wilder movie, too. The Production Code forced them to put this scene in. The Sexual Revolution couldn't come fast enough. At least we're looking at the Revolution's godmother right here.
I So LOVE the Old Hollywood Hayes Code. It was Perfect and i agree with the Code in General.
@@kiranjitKaur61 Well you should enjoy this movie then.
I have been watching clips from this movie online. I have seen Marilyn Monroe Ji's Niagara Film clips too and of some other film clips of hers. She is very good at it.
@@kiranjitKaur61 Clips? You can't be bothered to see the movies? That means you're not a fan, imo. And who is "Marilyn Monroe Ji"?
The guy looks old even in when he is young in this..why old hollywood movies cast old looking people as a leading actor

A blonde plumber? What does hair color have to do with your line of work? Or perhaps the hair color entails high maintenance desirability and beauty?
1st: Blonde is assumed stupid in the 50's
2nd: It's the 50's
Virginsuicde The 50s are over now, you are too late to ask these questions
Why is it when someone says the word " Blonde " everyone immediately thinks " Woman "? Men have blonde hair too.
@Summer Rose It's just an old stereotype that of course doesn't make sense. But what I think some people here are missing is that although Marilyn just says "blonde", she means a blonde woman, who'd be unlikely (in those days) to be a plumber. Obviously there'd be nothing odd about a male plumber who happened to have blond hair.
Lol the incels should watch this.
Yeah, kind of sad. It's a nice speech, but the girl's actually gonna go for the strutting guy in the fancy vest.
Only one Marilyn

"La tentación vive arriba".
Es una clara idea, de la imitación de un hombre que ya tiene 50s años o más y desea encontrar más sentido a su vida, mas allá de una Esposa, hijos, y una soledad, que le carcome el Alma.. !, y eso es un tema diario en donde encontramos, cada hombre, que pierde la esperanza de vida, y existencia humana.
Una verdad, hecha comedia, absolutamente vigente, ésta película 📽, en donde la carnalidad, pecado, y deseos ...., son pan de cada dia.
