@idklol google plus sorry to burst your bubble , but men and women being homosexual has nothing to do with beautiful men/women on screen. Sexual orientation is a complex process , which is quite involuntary : it involves certain areas of brain which can't be quite changed by how you perceive 'beauty'. Say , if a straight man finds out that his partner is secretly a man , it will still be a deal breaker. They can still care for each other , but no sexuality involved. It's nothing satanic , God creates us in all forms , it's also His wish that it happens. Wait , why must a woman show boobs to prove she is a woman ? What if , she has undergone a mastectomy ?! It is about Romance rather. I do rather Love the fact. If about two female friendships rather then the Film wouldst be rather boring and rather off-putting.
Producers treated marilyn really bad while filming, jane got 200,000 for the role, marilyn was paid 500 a week and they didn't even want to give her a room telling her "she wasn't a star". And marilyn response to that was: whatever i am this film is called gentlemen prefer blondes and i am the blonde
I thought this movie was going to be made for men and objectize women But it so much better, I thinks it is actually made for women And has really nice messages about appearances, friendship, woman taking control of their lives and going for what they want Is it vain? "No, money is rather a hobby of Lorelei's." is one of my favorite lines along with the exchange "You must think I was born yesterday." "Well, sometimes there's just no other possible explanation."
The sound went out a few times and a couple of scenes were deleted. Jane Russell was really sweet to Marilyn during the filming and long after Marilyn died, she still spoke kindly of her. I adore both of them.
the sound went out because the music is copyrighted and if they had left it in, they wouldn't have been able to put it on youtube. idk about the deleted scenes though
I adore this movie. I have lost count of hoe many times Ive watched it. But everything about is wonderfully clever and witty. The script is hilariously funny too. Esmund asking " is it the right size?" And Lorelei replying ",it can never be too big" to him. And to Dorothy " do you think its too small?" Different lines for men to women. Very clever. Just fantastic!
@@calebclark9114 So do I. Beauty will only get a woman so far. If she doesn't have brains and the man does, he will tire of her as there will be nothing to talk about. Also that argument Marilyn gives at the end of the film assumes that a woman will keep her youthful beauty for decades. When she hits 35 or 40, depending on her life style, she'll start to develop wrinkles and lose her "firmness." She will definitely NOT look like she did as 25. The rich and shameless will have money managers increasing their accounts and they will get richer as they age. Yes, he will age too, possibly get a pot belly, wrinkles around the eyes, lose his youth. So in both cases, the physical traits will leave them. He'll still bring financial security to the table. And if she doesn't have anything else in her social or mental arsenal, then she'll be history.
@@calebclark9114 But some men tend to get intimidated if their wife turns out to be more intelligent than them and they develop this weird jealousy so they’ll try to overcompensate in some way or diminish her intelligence instead of having admiration for her and being proud. At first they’ll say they love her for her brain but after a while it’ll get on their nerves and start to hurt their ego. Then her intelligence will become a hindrance. I think that’s what Marilyn’s character meant, she’s smart but showing her smarts hadn’t ever worked in her favour. Focusing on her beauty and giving her partner the spotlight in term of intelligence, did.

I found an interview Russell gave one time and they asked her about the making of this film. If I remember right, she said she had a blast working with Monroe and making this movie. (This was earlier in Monroe’s career before she started really suffering from mental illness and got her reputation as “difficult”.) Russell expressed that she knew Monroe’s raw star power would most likely overshadow her so she embraced the role from a standpoint of doing her best to have fun and give Dorothy personality. She thought Monroe seemed impressionable, but beautiful and very sweet. Because Monroe was usually subject to others projections onto her, Russell said that she and her got along very well since Russell always just tried to be her co-star and friend, never a rival. It probably helped that by the time GPB was created, Russell already had a film legacy and was known for being a very kind person. I think their amiable off screen dynamic really shone through in this movie, and from what I understand, Russell was one of the few co-stars Monroe ever spoke highly of afterward. I recommend the interview if you can find it!
Jane tried to get Monroe to convert to Christianity during the filming of this movie, Monroe said so herself. In 2003 Jane also gave an interview where she described herself as being, "mean-spirited, right-wing, narrow-minded, conservative Christian bigot, but not a racist." I'm not surprised though given the era she grew up in.
Mitzi Gaynor said she was overshadowed by MM, that she felt jealous then, and admitted that MM stole the show simply because of her presence and her cinematic genius, and she admired her for that !
@@thisgirl3062 In a few interviews (I think from the 90's) Jane Russell said (and I am paraphrasing as I have watched the interviews months ago) that she invited Marylin to her Hollywood prayer meeting group because she felt like it would be good for Marilyn to feel like she belongs to a community, as she seemed like a lost child, and said that her intent wasn't to convert Marilyn, but to bond with her over something, and Marilyn assumed that her intent was to convert her (probably a matter of miscommunication between the two ladies). As a non-religious person, I can see how Marilyn could have taken it the wrong way, and based on the way Jane Russell was talking, she seemed like a genuine and caring person and friend who just happens to be religious and spiritual and found joy and community in religious activities. I don't know much about Jane Russell outside of the movies she was in, but I think the fact that she was so critical of herself in the statement you mentioned is pretty badass. :)
Jane Russels imitation of Marilyn Monroe is the best part of the whole movie!😂 They are both stars ⭐️ I love the glamours aesthetic and the wardrobe is everything too

Well that's stereotypical Hollywood for you, an actor could get any roles he wants even when he turned 30 or 40 but an actress could face an early retirement once she reached 30, because the industry is always harsh towards female star who over 30. You could be one of the most bankable female star during your 20s but soon became flop when you turned 30. Roles that available for actresses over 30 are usually the mother or elderly women, if you're lucky enough to look young for your age you're still able to get roles but most of them are just secondary characters or even just recurring ones, barely anyone want to cast a 30-year-old-and-so actress for the main role. I believe there've been some changes in the last decades but it's still actually happening everywhere even today in 2022.
Wow😧......good thing there's a shift happening in the entertainment industry....they will be looking for older mature artists instead of the young pop stars
Absolutely loved this film, the best part of the film was the friendship between Lorelei and Dorothy, I love how Dorothy was always supportive of Lorelei

That's pretty near to her death. So it's not uncommon for movies to be made a year or more before the release date so given it's less than 10 years to her death that they probably wouldn't have time enough to work together again.@@canalesworks1247

Marilyn would have been 96 years old by now, but this is how we will forever see her. She could do the stereotypical archetype of the dizzy blonde bombshell in her sleep, and one immediately sees how she loved to do it, but it just wasn't enough of a challenge for her. She was hysterically funny as a comedienne. Her next film "The Misfits" was he biggest challenge. But, that's another story. This flick was her masterpiece if you don't count "Some Like It HOT!". We'll always love her. How could you not?
I absolutely thoroughly enjoyed this film, from start to finish! So, thank you sooo much for this! TIPS FOR VIEWERS... When a song comes on, it will be mute. Pain in the arse, but you can pause at that moment, open another window and watch the song on YT from another poster. Then, continue to watch and enjoy. FUN FACT! The scene with Jane Russell and the olympians. Apparently, at the point where she is low down and a man accidentally knocks her into the water; it was not staged. The fact that Jane jumped out of the water so quick and carried on meant that the whole thing was kept for the film in one take! How professional, Jane!! :)
At first this movie had me think of Dorothy wanting a man for love, and she got quality whilst Lorelei had the quantity. But as I continued to watch I began to think of their friendship and how Dorothy chose Lorelei, no matter what she did, what she said, and what she had done, she stuck by her friend. She never even talked poorly behind her back even to the man she began to fall for. Lorelei believed her, they helped each other, became partners and crime and still managed to stay classy. They both knew their wittiness, cleverness, worth and status. but most importantly they always had each other
Yes !! That’s exactly what I thought. Their friendship was so real and not fake at all. I love how different they were, but somehow got along very well
Really? I always thought that statement was a bit dated. In the 50’s maybe yes, but nowadays there are plenty of wealthy and/or powerful women who are after fit pretty boys.
It may be true but at the same time it's the equivalent of a woman selling herself. Beauty fades and eventually your partner will trade you in for a newer prettier model. I'd rather come to the table with something more substantial then just my looks. They might get you in the door but your intelligence, whit and humor will keep you in the relationship.

Marilyn was a great actress, it is a shame the tabloids tried to knock that. She was beautiful yes but she had a beautiful voice and great acting skills!! I have a lot of respect for her
And she was a hell of a smart person too I believe. Not only that but she was quite the generous actress for her time, visiting orphanages and the soldiers in Korea.

Ironically enough, the comments are far more about Russell than about Marilyn - so I’ve got to chime in. God, Marilyn looks absolutely breathtaking. She is just unreal, every movement and glance is just perfection. How I wish she’d gotten better, more serious roles. She could contort her face to anything.
I came to take a look at the comments to check if I was the only one thinking this way. This is not the first comment saying the same. Maybe our paradigm shifted and we are not that infatuated by the kind of glamour of those times. A little artificial? Dunno.
@Hippie Chic That's not a problem. Jane Russell got the part BECAUSE she's brunette. The story called for two girls, one blonde gold-digger and her brunette friend who wants to marry for love. The movie is based on a book called "Gentlemen prefer blondes". The sequel to the book is called "... but they marry brunettes". The "dumb blonde plaything" vs. "smart brunette marriage material" stereotype is crucial. The movie wouldn't work if Jane Russell were blonde too.

idklol google plus you should lay off the Bible reading and conspiracies. It will do you well
@idklol google plus sorry to burst your bubble , but men and women being homosexual has nothing to do with beautiful men/women on screen.
I don't expect you to understand this though.

As a man, I actually prefer women who are smart

I think that’s what Marilyn’s character meant, she’s smart but showing her smarts hadn’t ever worked in her favour. Focusing on her beauty and giving her partner the spotlight in term of intelligence, did.

The navy blue/leopard ensemble in the boarding scene was everything 😍😍😍
That's so sweet.
Jane tried to get Monroe to convert to Christianity during the filming of this movie, Monroe said so herself. In 2003 Jane also gave an interview where she described herself as being, "mean-spirited, right-wing, narrow-minded, conservative Christian bigot, but not a racist."
I'm not surprised though given the era she grew up in.
Link of the interview please
Jane Russels imitation of Marilyn Monroe is the best part of the whole movie!😂

Such a shame that Jane Russell didn’t continue acting. She has said in interviews that she couldn’t get roles because she was over 30 🤯🤦♀️🤷♀️
Well that's stereotypical Hollywood for you, an actor could get any roles he wants even when he turned 30 or 40 but an actress could face an early retirement once she reached 30, because the industry is always harsh towards female star who over 30.
That's Hollyweird for you...chauanistic is an understatement.
Even in the 90s that had only increased to 40! Kim Cattrall talks about getting the role as Samantha was so unheard of at the time.. z
But marilyn and Audrey and Sophia and Elizabeth did make movies after thier 30s

Marilyn would have been 96 years old by now, but this is how we will forever see her. She could do the stereotypical archetype of the dizzy blonde bombshell in her sleep, and one immediately sees how she loved to do it, but it just wasn't enough of a challenge for her. The scene with Jane Russell and the olympians. Apparently, at the point where she is low down and a man accidentally knocks her into the water; it was not staged.
