  • An attempt at an Inverter Review results in a repair video. I first open up the inverter to show the construction quality, then I load it down until it fails, then I attempt to repair it.

Hey i am new at this but after watching 20 or more of your videos about inverters i think you could shed some light on my problem.I bought 2 for partsWFCO 1000 WATT PURE SINE WAVE INVERTER WF5110H with transfer switch the tec people say they are not user serviceable and that is all the help i get.The case is pop riveted.I drilled out the rivets and took the cover off and see no problem inside nothing burnt no bad caps no smell. However there are 4 40 amp fuses that are soldered to the board all are blown.I have removed them(tough job for me)but i got it done.I soldered 2 pieces of 6 gauge wire on the bottom of the motherboard were the fuses were and and attached them to a 150 amp breaker.I thought why bother with 4 fuses in the future when the breaker should fix the problem.I hooked it up to a good battery and powered it on and the unit started up but it reads a error e04.And has no output.Have you got any ideas for me.Thanks DavidI live in Texas And would be glad to send it to you if you would look at it.

Do you work on other electronics besides inverters? You seem to have quite the stock of transistors and such.

    Good video series!
What caused the orignal mosfet to fail?

I believe Neptune and Venus were in alignment with the Helmholtz field of that particular FET at the time.

      Sux when that happens... ;)

      Hi,
Would you mind if I sent you a private CZcams email to ask for your opinion on a different electronic subject?

Nope. They often get filtered by google's spam filter however...

2nd!, I don't understand why you ignore current rating, if the original mosfet was rated at 50A surely you would rule out mosfets rated at 10A, I realise that if their running at high frequencies lots of other parameters will be important as well. (I would like to see 200A running though that mosfet with out the legs melting off).

A 10A rated MOSFET would also have far different parameters regarding the rdsON and charge ratios making it a poor fit without considering the amperage rating. The current rating is a marketing spec that has little to do with the real world in practice. While that spec may have some application to the original designer of the circuit (but probably not) it doesn't add any useful information to the technician repairing such a product. Usually when the amperage spec is important is for devices which are package limited due to die bonding technologies or the like which isn't applicable to these applications.

Why didn't you just order the exact same part?

Knurlgnar. Use a hakko 808 desolder gun. SAVES LOTS OF TIME!!!!!!!

I have a Chinese Hakko clone new in the box yet - it just seems like too much work to take it out and then put it away again. :)

I too do not have a dedicated workbench for my soldering tools either, but watching you try to desolder that component was a bit painful, my desolder vacuum gun is like thunder to the Gods haha!
