  • Batman Begins (2005) gets a full analysis in New Rockstars' rewatch of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. What did you miss from Nolan's Batman films? Erik Voss breaks down Batman Begins scene by scene, uncovering fascinating clues in the imagery, story structure, camerawork, set design, music, and dialogue that reveal the deeper meaning of Nolan's film. What influences did the filmmakers draw upon in their depiction of Batman, the Joker, Scarecrow, Bane, Ra's Al Ghul, and the League of Shadows? What Easter Eggs are hidden in Batman Begins by Nolan's obsessive attention to detail? In what ways does Batman Begins foreshadow the events of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises? Does Batman Begins secretly tell us the origin of the Joker?

It humanized Batman in a way Batman has never been before, with justifying his gadgets and abilities. As tragic as it is to be orphaned, it takes a lot to make a person go from depressed and distraught to determined and bold. By exploring that, we see more about the character and his worldview than we ever got previously. Batman Begins is brilliant still.

I think the efforts to justify Batman's existence (or at least ground it in realism) is great. It was sorely missed in the Burton/Schumacher movies and I think it was a good test run for the MCU. Remember that three of the four superheroes in Phase I of the MCU owe their abilities to military R&D, and the other is an alien, which explains why he is so much stronger than a human.

Well if you base it off the comics, he is superhuman with inhuman strength and reflexes. But Nolan's adaptation makes it more realistic.

Rewatched Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. They still stand up very well. Definetly don't feel like they're 16 years old.
