- The return trip of the Clinchfield 800 and Seaboard 1030 from Winter Garden includes a special run of 25 loaded flats with steel to Eustis. Florida Central Railroad working with the Orlando & Northwestern made this run possible and here's some exclusive footage of the run. Being a child of the mid 90's I never thought id see Seaboard System pulling a freight train through Central Florida and today I got the chance to see it. A scene straight from the 1980's!

Good to see two old veterans still doing their job after many years. The 1030 was originally built for the Louisville & Nashville as one of 58 total units purchased by the railroad in 1962-63. It is the only one preserved in its original as-built configuration; five others now serve as road slugs on CSX, and three were sold to Burlington Northern and rebuilt into GP39M units by Morrison-Knudsen. All three are still in service on BNSF. (Information about the L&N GP30 fleet can be found in the January/February 2016 issue of 'Diesel Era' magazine.)
One of those CSX road slugs runs around between the O'Bannon and Mapother yards in Louisville KY pretty regularly.
@Jason Peterich CRR never had GP30s.
back to LN is fine with me.
Did the ever give 1030 a new paint job?
@@Peter-mt6lg Not yet - it's still wearing what's left of its Seaboard System paint scheme while operating in Florida. There are plans to return it to its L&N colors, but so far, it hasn't happened.
The trestle scene was Amazing. The ACL had a trestle like that at Croom on the AS line and the SAL had one at Holiday over the Anclote river on the now gone SYA line .
I see that old Seaboard loco still has it's dual working MARS light, which I always thought were the coolest lights ever on a locomotive! I love MARS lights much better than ditch lights! Surprised it was still functional!
Would've loved to seen those two in action, but my driving days are over, so I don't get out to railfan in Orlando or elsewhere any longer. Sure miss it though.
Great video!
BTW: I'd rather see that old L&N {Seaboard} GP30 repainted in the old Black-Yellow striped scheme I grew up with here in Florida on the SCL! That was my favorite paint scheme.
BTW2: The reason SCL {Seaboard} blacked out the MARS lights is they failed many times, usually the motors would go bad, and it was too costly to repair/replace them. So they blacked them out because they were stuck in a single position, so it was useless at that point. They also told me when I asked about them, they were very difficult to replace because of the way they were installed in the loco, so it was easier to just black them out than attempting a replacement. And if they did replace them, they were replaced with a standard dual headlamp or single headlamp assembly and did away with the MARS light all together. Just going by what I was told by an old SAL/SCL trainmaster and a locomotive repair person during that era.
Key Lock very cool info thx
Wow thats a great little history lesson
I was thinking the very same thing about those lights. I can remember seeing those lights working like that on those old Seaboard engines and the train when it was switching and working in the town I grew up in at that time in Marion South Carolina
Omg I love that Mars light on the L&N! and the RS5T
I remember those lights on freight trains down in Texas when I was a kid. Never knew they were called that!
That's actually a Gyralite by Pyle National. MARS lights are lot more rare and the eccentric mechanism made it do a figure-8 pattern. I wired this one up on 1030 before it left Oak Ridge.
Pro tip: you can watch series on InstaFlixxer. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.
@Brayden Marshall Yea, I've been watching on InstaFlixxer for since december myself :)
@Brayden Marshall definitely, I've been using instaflixxer for since december myself :D
That engineer sure knows how to quill a horn!
CFR, awesome catch I remember when this type of engine were running though Florida.
Thank you. Theyre def one of my favorites

My entire lifetime in lake county ain't ever seen nothing freighted to eustis this is cool as hell man wish they would still run the tavares line and all that I know they do it for tourism traps now like polar Express every year
I work for the ONW that runs the polar express and we work with the FCEN to get stuff done.
They run a train to Eustis a few times a week actually, I think Tuesdays are a main day they run up to Eustis.
This run was awesome though, definitely a highlight of last year
GP30 is my favourite locomotive. Love Alco centuries too, but the GP is king.
WOW What a nice shot, Someday I'm planning on shooting the 800 Down the Road!!
Wow it's nice to see old Seaboard System running the line and i tought these locomotive was sold scrapped, or rebuild, repainted when CSX merged in 90s.
Nice horn on that gp30!
I like EMD f unit and Sd 70 Ace
Love the old horns
Superb
Excellent Video, Christian!
Love this video!! More!
I want emd F unit still running again And Cooperation with Bnsf,Ns and Csx.That's very Cool guys!, so If End F units stil running like GE Ac6000cw it will be cool!
Waaw, the train is very big and tall, full power. Greeting from Indonesia.
4:12 the sign on that bridge still says SDBRR Proporty, so that GP30 is at home!
That was actually a prop that we pulled out of my trunk for the photoshoot tbat I thought would look nice BUT she is still right at home on the old Seaboard System, with plenty of those signs still placed
Wow! That’s a powerful horn on the gp30!
One of my favorites!
Must have been a real treat for the to actually do some freight in stead of passenger service all time
Man, that's a lot of weight for the two old girls! I live next to a NS line that usually sees a daily steel train that came from the ship docks in Mobile, AL. Most of the time, they will have 3 AC units on them.
That would be the 60/61c. Train goes to Chicago for loads and empties to mobile.
Such an angry flagman, lol, it can be frustrating. Nice vid.
We were cracking up with him about it afterwards lol
Thanks!
Yeah. He got a little hot around the tooter-hole for sure.
great video
Thank you Hank, I'm glad you enjoyed watching
and a working mars light to boot,
classy
It’s either that or ditch lights per FRA regulations
Love your channel. Have a new subscriber
Thank you and welcome, hope you find more you can enjoy here
Me too
Truly marvelous
That horn is stupid loud hahaha
Its my alltime favorite horn, ahead of the K5LLA. I dont hear these this often but, it was music to my ears.
As a friend and I say, "That horn will put some hair on your chest" lol
fine video. I love the RS5T horn. Is no 1030 till around?
Yes sir, shes still on the Orlando & Northwestern Railway here in Central Florida
Omg I love that S5T on that old Seaboard unit! So does the FC normally run seaboard and clinch field? Or newer stuff?
This was a one time thing for them, having to move ONW's power back to Tavares. FCEN has it's own roster of diesels
Oh, nice
Was this a scheduled photo shoot or just random run to grab freight?
Random run
This was a scheduled photoshoot for a select few people in the area, but also with the purpose of moving these cars to Eustis
Now that's one badass horn.
That horn is owned by a buddy of mine at CSX. Its my favorite horn there is. Nothing but power
@@Orangeblossomtrains they need to put that horn on CSX engines. All of CSX's horns sounds the same.
@@chrishinnant3924 thats the horn a majority of CSX engines used to have in the 80's quite a few still have them like 2634, 1185, 2641, 2642, 911, 1776, and 3194
@@Orangeblossomtrains my favorite horn is the Wabco E2 horn. I used to hear that horn on the Seaboard Coastline back in the 70s and early 80s. It was a very low pitch sounding horn. But when Seaboard became Family Line System I stopped hearing it. If I ever hear that horn again I'll be super shocked. I think some shortlines still uses it. Man I miss those old horn so much. CSX done trashed them all. I also remember Seaboard coastline having a horn that sounded like a steam whistle. CSX stopped that one too.
Nice gp30 marslite
Sweet video! Do you know where these locos are usually stationed?
They keep the engines stored and locked up in Eustis, I think on Friday and Saturday nights though they park on the street running section In Tavares on the Sorrento Branch
CF Railfanning oh ok thanks man!
How did distant signal not hear about this
He unfortunately wasnt able to make this run
@@Orangeblossomtrains oh
RS5T sounds like Vermont Railway 303's 5T
ok
I hadn't noticed before on other videos, but your angles show the GP30 with no dynamic brake.
Good eye! Original L&N GP30's did not have the dynamic brake option. SBD GP30's from the C&EI, SAL and ACL did.
does the Leslie S-5t horn have the same notes as the nathan airchime m5 and old cast p5?
I dont think it does
Very nice video, like the Gp30 a lot.Can someone explain why the loco has ditchlights only on the back ?
Thank you. It only has ditchlights on the back to comply with the FRA ruling on auxiliary lights on the locomotive.
Since is has the gyralite up front, it doesnt need front ditchlights
@@Orangeblossomtrains Thanks for the explaination.I didn´t know that the Gyra Light comply to todays FRA rules.
@@Orangeblossomtrains L&N was class, but when FL/SBD took over,,,,,,,,they blanked out ditch lights.
where was all the steel going? didn't realize they had a fabrication
facility in sofla?
It’s central Florida
where were they taking this in eustis and will this become a normal run?
This was a one time run to Eustis to be offloaded for somewhere, not sure where they were going after the unload
CF Railfanning if u find out anything else I would love to catch them any time they do freight ops, thanks!
Oh and also what camera do u use? Sorry for all the questions 😂
Oh no worries
Keep watching my content and you can ask whatever 😂😂
I use a Canon Vixia HFR700
On occasion I'll use my phone (mostly with my Railfan Shorts series)
But for productions like this I use that Canon
CF Railfanning ok thanks man and yeah I will definitely keep watching your videos!!
Im also curious. Was this just a photo-op or was this move with an actual purpose?
steel bound for Eustis
CSXKid5016 both a special photo shoot and a purposed move for those steel cars
I think the 1030 needs a makeover. It could sure stand it. Yes I know it take lots of cash flow too.
Its in the plans for it eventually to be repainted inti a fresh coat of its original L&N
As a Seaboard fan myself, im loving the Seaboard paint
@@Orangeblossomtrains yeah I liked the Seaboard System paint job better
I was curious as to where the steel was bound in Eustis. Looking at Google Maps, I don't see any online customers for steel in this quantity, or any quantity for that matter. Must have been going to an offline customer via rail/truck transloading with Eustis being the closest town to the receiver.
Maybe metro steel there right by eustis tavares I know lake tech gets some huge steel from them or it.could been hauled over to maybe durastress they build bridges
There’s a small steel company that had the contract for the new stadium in downtown Orlando. This was being stored for them until they needed the cars I believe.
Why did they cut off the F unit at the end
They cut ol girl off to put her back on the ONW passenger train, which the GP30 currently wasnt being used on
tell me, Will 1030 ever be restored to her original L&N Livery?
It'll eventually happen but personally I prefer it in Seaboard System.
Nothing I love more than riding in her knowing its a SBD loco on old SBD rails here
Don’t wait to Long To Take Video’s February 6, 2019
I would like to mount those air horns on my 1950 chevy truck 😆😨😨😨😆
Hi guys,Actually I want EMD F unit live again in America,In Australia F unit locomotive still run,why in america This emd Was death?
That’s a very sorry-looking GP30.
She was rough with her original 1980's paint but she ran likeba dream.
@@Orangeblossomtrains interesting
Come to Australia there are bulldog nose locomotives working everyday
1030 looks a little in need of some new paint!
Trainzguy2472 nooooo. Keep it L&N original
@@WhetstoneCreek he is saying repaint it in L&N
Repaint it Seaboard System colors they looked awesome
Repaint it in the old seaboard livery
Wat the hell is with the lights why are they going round in circles for??
Thats a gyralite, used back in the day before ditchlights
