Big Alert for Iceland customers over the age of 60! As of Tuesday 24 May, and every Tuesday thereafter, Iceland is giving people over 60 a 10% discount on all shopping with no minimum spend. Proof of age, such as a driving licence or senior bus or rail card will be required. So I'm going to start buying other groceries there, too. Iceland stock the basics like milk, butter and bread. The butter is the same price as at Tesco and Aldi, but 10% off makes Iceland the cheaper buy on Tuesdays. Let's see whether other supermarkets will follow suit with discounts for pensioners.
Another great review Gaz, well done for getting through all them sauces! I love brown sauce, and have recently purchased a bottle of Stokes, and I have to say, it's the best I have ever had and by some distance. So I use that for 'best' and HP for 'every day use' Sorry I missed the live on Friday, I was poorly. Cheers mate.
Hi Gareth. Fab review- right up my street. That was quite a marathon tasting session. Good choice of your favourites, I'm going to treat myself to some Stokes. Thanks for this. 😋
Having watched the Tomato sauce comparison video, I predicted another sauce comparison video would follow. Looking forward to the BBQ sauce comparison next and maybe a mint and apple sauce to follow, LOL.
Hi Gareth thanks for another informative review. You're going to have to build a new cupboard to accommodate all those sauces. Lol. Looks like the, HP, Bramwells and Daddies were the best ones. God knows how you made it through that review mate, It was like brown sauce overload. Keep up the spot on work from Scotland.
i done a test like you with hp and branwells on crumpets with butter, hp was 2.40 and branwells was 59 p, hp was just a bit better but not 4 times better ie the price, so branwells for me from now on buddy. so glad you done this matey.
Got to be Hammond's chop sauce for me. Been having it since as far back as I can remember. Great with pie peas and chips. Cheers Gareth. Great video asper
Another great video Gareth. Stotes is my favourite as well. It was on offer so I tried it now it's svregular purchase for me. Like you state it is a full bodied sauce and pours easily with no shaking to pour necessary. It far outweighs HP for me as I think HP hits you hard so to speak. Stotes ketchup also pours easily and is packed with taste. Yes Its more expensive but you don't need much of it.
HP sauce used to be made a few miles from where I live and what made it so nice was the water that was underneath the factory, they also made the daddy's sauce on the same site and next door to that was a brewery.
Wow Gareth, that was quite some Brown Sauce tasting marathon. I've never seen so many brands of brown sauce in my lifetime and you had them in 17 minutes. I have a out of use by date bottle of the Tesco sitting in the larder. I'd better check it out 🤔. It was a great review and I hope you don't have any brown sauce nightmares. Give the one's you don't like to your brother so he can leave a bottle at each job he does. Cheers Gareth 👍😀
Hi. I am glad that you like the Stokes brown sauce. Actually, we buy Sainsburys own brand and like that but haven't tried Stokes . Have you done a mayonnaise taste off? We didn't think that we like mayonnaise until we tried the Stokes mayonnaise. We don't like any own brand, nor Heinz but we don't mind Hellman's. Funnily, Stokes contains olive oil which I don't like but it's nice in their Mayo. We don't have a high income but we push we the boat for Stokes so we will try their brown sauce too. Thanks.
Try mixing some of the ones together that you thought were horrible - I bet you can come up with an interesting new sauce! Mix ketchup and brown sauce together on a meal!
I mixed Brown and Tomato Sauce together years ago! I called it "Bromato Sauce!" ...... I also mixed Tea and Coffee together! I called that "Toffee!" 🤣🤣🤣
You should use a tablespoon next time! I’d just sat down to have my lunch when your video came up and funnily enough I had just poured Daddies brown sauce on my hash browns! I usually go for HP sauce, I like it the best but I’ve had the Aldi one many times and can’t fault it for the price. No way would I pay £3 for a bottle of sauce no matter how good it is. I would still like to see a hot drinking chocolate comparison, Aldi versus branded if you can manage it one day. Best wishes from Sheffield.
That was a challenge trying that lot for sure , Inmy cuboard its daddies first HP second as me mum always had it on the table , gone give the Bramwell's a go as you got try things and i do love me brown sauce cheers gaz .
Gareth really enjoyed sauce taste test Lol, stokes never seen before not been sainsbury since lockdown only my local which is handy only small open until 11 o'clock each day, love your honest reviews and we know straight away which ones you don't like my favourite is HP hope Kirsty feeling loads better since friday was upsetting she had been in hospital sending her a big hug, ♥️😋😋😋
108 years HP was made in Birmingham, then they moved production to Netherlands! So, I am searching for a alternative. Hence watching your excellent video. Thank you. Peace be unto you.
Glad you reviewed Hammonds Chop, but surprised you did not like it! Can I asked where you managed to get it for so cheap? I was discontinued in all tne supermarkets down here in Cornwall a few years ago. I used to be able to buy it from Morrisons. I have had to pay loads for it on Ebay. Online supermarket shopping sites said it was available for ages, but always showed out of stock. Definitely going to try Stokes though!
Gareth, hope your well, Glad that i'm not in your household tomorrow morning, Keep the bathroom available,at all costs !! Maybe time to consider social distancing again ! My normal as with most people is,HP but will be giving the Branwells a go shortly
I don't like brown source when it is two vinegary so that it's over powers the food. In the past we have always stuck to buying HP we'll definitely try some cheaper brands. Cheers Gareth you deserve a medal for trying them 👍
HP and Daddies for me fella, blimey you're going to have to knock up a few fry ups to get shot of all them bottles of sauce. Good training I guess if you are going to be Santa this year. 😁👍
not sure if u can get gold star brown sause in england missed that one lol thats the chippy brown sause lol nice with a splash of pickele vinegar thru it tho lol great video
Looking forward to the salad cream test, I just can't get away with the Aldi salad cream but agree with the red and brown sauce.. did you know that Aldi will use a major manufacturer who also supplies their own sauces. I have worked in a major food factory and from the same batch of food , it could go to M&S and the co-op and the taste would be the same but different packaging
Wow I would have struggled as much with the browns as well buddy . I’ve tried the skinny ones before because I do the keto diet. And they are not good. 👍👏👏👏
M&S or Waitrose for me, nothing to do with snob value, they don't contain glucose-fructose. I was suprised to see that HP does, its bad for your joints amongst other things. Stokes is alright too but around £1.50 dearer. I treat myself occasionally.
I always liked HP, but it got expensive so I tried a few other cheaper ones (Daddies, Tesco, Lichfield, Morrisons) and they ALL went straight in the bin, harsh and vinegary. So I went back to paying more for HP. After seeing this I might give Marks &Spencer a try, I tried their tomato sauce after seeing your video and it was good.
If you have a lidl or an aldi near by try their own brand! I always used to buy HP and as you say the cheapers ones are harsher and more vinegary. I like the lidl one which is more complex and smoother and i would guess the aldi one would be the same. Alot of the aldi products i have had in the past are very similar to the lidl ones. Its just lidl are near me so i'm more familar with them.
Eh up Gazza hows tha doin. Amazing video. I was showing my wife the HP sauce on the video. I used to love HP. It made really good suntan lotion. Only thing is it attracted flies. Just kidding. Dont they refer to Newcastle brown ale as brown sauce?
The Stokes is excellent, as is their Bloody Mary sauce which is like a mixture of their red and brown sauce, a bit like Lea & Perrin's Tomato and Worcester sauce which you can no longer get . Costco recently sold Stokes brown sauce in squeezy bottles but not the last time I was in and Aldi was selling the three flavours of Stokes, last summer, but again are no longer selling it unfortunately. I can recommend all three of the Stokes sauces.
Hi Gareth, loads of sauce bottles for you and your family to go through. I hope there is no food waste buying as many! Anyway never mind that. I love HP Brown Sauce & Aldi’s Brown Sauce quite similar. Been a while since I had Aldi’s Tomato ketchup but I have a bottle bought recently in our kitchen. Going to finish the Heinz Tomato Ketchup first . Maybe if you made a small saucer plateful of chips it would not have been much of an ordeal for you. I would not try the sauces on their own not for me. Anyway hope you are keeping well.
Ps hp brown sauce in glass bottle they have a limited bottle run ,Big Ben I. Covered in Scaffolding while it’s under repair ,not many supermarkets sell hammonds ,a certain Bradford rebased retailer does ! My second favourite is Branson brown sauce ,
Hammonds chop is really popular in barnsley. I got some to try cos I’ve moved to border of sheff and Barnsley, got one of them big bottles. It doesn’t have any turmeric in it more of a vinegary flavour, I Definately prefer hp
Great review. The Daddies went down hill about 3 years ago, it used to be quite thick, but now, as you say, runny and thin. The only other one I like, is Dewhirsts, which is close to HP. But it's hard to get hold of, as only Poundstretchers and Poundland seem to occasionally stock it. If anyone knows anywhere else that has it, please let me know🤞
Dewhurst has been owned by a few investment companies over the years - I think it's DMB Foods and S.L.O. foods depending on the type of product now. To be honest I thought most of the range was trash when I looked at the ingredients in Pound Stretcher, but I guess with brown sauce it's all about the balance of flavour. I would imagine that you can get the exact same brown sauce under a different brand name though if you do some research. I can't even find any trace of it online though, just the ketchup.
@@PotatoPirate123 Big in the 80s I recall, with shops opening all over the place. Then they seemed to disappear overnight. F*** all "investment companies". Assets strippers and nothing else.
My personal fav is HP Fruity with the green label, it's got a nice piquancy that standard HP hasn't got. It is pricey though so I reserve it for my bacon sarnie treat.
Hammonds Chop Sauce has always been my favourite brown sauce! Even when I was a kid I preferred brown sauce to red, and it was always Chop in our cupboard. My brother loved red sauce so there was no arguing ha ha!! Sadly I have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 4 months ago, so now I use the Skinny sauce, which tastes different and is quite runny but I do love the taste :-)
Bald Foodie Guy yea it’s been a big learning curve, and it took a while to get used to the consistency and taste of the skinny sauces as they are very different, but there’s still so much choice in food these days for diabetics so I’m kind of enjoying the change…. Plus the three stone weight loss isn’t so bad either ha ha!
Daddies brown sauce is my favourite. I was brought up on it and nothing beats it on a bacon and egg banjo, or just a bacon sarni or bun. I must try Daddies tommy k after your comments about it.

That's good for pensioners to know
Rishi Sunak will find a way to put a stop to this. Discounts for older people? Outrageous. Just in case....yeah I'm being sarky.
What a great move by Iceland. Will the greedy giants such as Morrisons etc follow suit, I would be very surprised
Eating brown sauce off a spoon. The things you do so we don't have to 🤣🤣
I really like your vids. Straight up direct review / comparison from a regular guy. 👍

Daddies brown sauce is my favourite. I was brought up on it and nothing beats it on a bacon and egg banjo, or just a bacon sarni or bun. I must try Daddies tommy k after your comments about it.
