I'm not a big coffee drinker but I have bought the Sainsbury Gold Roast for years its very good £3 for a 200 gram Jar . That 83p one from Asda is perfect to give the in laws when they call just put it in a Nescafe jar and they won't know the difference 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Bit of a coffee snob myself but oooff the prices of everything have become quite shocking 😳 truly appreciate all your honest reviews cos at the end of the day we are only saving money if its worth consuming (and I hate waste)- thanks again ☕️🥰x
Thanks very much for trying out that coffee , bless you for being brave enough to try them both , but , even better , your honesty is great , regarding the testing . Nice One Mr. Foodie Guy xx Helen Kirrage x
Hi Gareth. Yes the cheaper coffee's can be just as good as the expensive. I found our supermarket Coles fair trade coffee very nice. I like a Lavazza or a Vitoria for my heart starter each morning. Another fine comparison review today Gareth. Cheers 👍🤤😀
I think with most things is to give the cheaper varieties a go,if not impressed you can go back to the original. As for coffee after trial and error I found we liked Kenco Instant Rich Blend best (people actually asked what coffee we used). Sometimes though I may mix the more expensive Kenco with a jar of cheaper coffee. This bulks out the coffee but does not have too much of an impact on the flavour! I have used this idea on several things just to keep cost down.
Funny, my morning routine is just the same - water first then coffee - the only one of the day! I have decaff because the 'normal' stuff gives me headaches! I only use cheap coffee and I know it's not the same as Kenco, but economy is very important! One reason I really love this channel!
Hi Gareth, a great review as always, I drink the same as what you're showing but it's the kenco intense version of the American so it's a good bit stronger, I never buy it at the full price but as soon as its on offer I'll buy a couple, I have to be honest but i wouldn't stray away from my one as i do look forward to it in the morning, again a great review 🍻🙏
The key to a great instant coffee is to boil the milk first, then preheat a cup with boiling water, add a small amount of boiling water to 1.5 teaspoons of coffee/brown sugar, pour the milk 70/30 ratio.
I really enjoy the Kenco Intense Americano (we call it Intense Ken, A real Americano hero). Worth stocking up when the co-op have it on offer for £3.50.
We have been drinking this coffee for over a year (it was smartprice previously). I am very happy with it; I use a hand frother for the smartprice soya milk and add a little cinnamon in before I pour on the water, I really enjoy it 😀 We like almost all the value ranges (I only eat plantbased though so obviously haven't tried anything with animal products in) Loving the videos, keep up the good work. Thanks 👍
I remember a few years back (mid 2000s??) , I used to get a 100g plastic bag of basic instant coffee from Sainsbury's for 50P and it was LOVELY, just like Nescafe! They stopped making it and then just put them in large 200g jars and the price shot right up..!
Thanks for this. It's very interesting - we're all facing stress' on the budget so it's good to know. I do exactly what you do when opening coffee 😆 it's so satisfying.
I am a decaf man but its amazing to think that you can get nearly 5 jars of Tesco for 1 Kenco. However, I expected Kenco to be better but not by 5 times the taste.
I have a couple of Nescafe original in the morning but then lunchtime I have a latte macchiato as I have a machine too, however I am looking for another coffee for the machine because since I had covid in April I really don't enjoy the latte macchiato now. I'm just drinking it to get rid of the pods. Great video xx
Another great vid mate, might try one. I love me coffee, but I have a cafe tiere thing, and buy them vacuum packs of real ground coffee, costs me as little as 2 quid from B@M usually. Bought the Asda essential 'chicken soup' the other day though, and it tasted a bit weird to me though LOL, it was okay / edible though, ok especially if people are on a tight budget. The bloke at the till said you can only buy 3 of each Asda Essential item, which is fair enough.
Thanks for the videos BFG. I watched a video from a coffee guru who claimed that a tiny pinch of salt can take the bitterness out of coffee. I tried it and it works!
I buy douwe experts, bought cheap coffee before and end up binning it,I will try cheap products to try,but I think coffee is hard to beat in quality, just my opinion.good review.
I normally go with ground coffee I like darker roasts, usually a French Roast, recently out of curiosity I tried "Hubbard's Food Store" brand, a medium roast coffee from Sainsburys, I think it is their own cheaper brand, It was at least half the price of some of the other brands and while it is not my favorite, it wasn't far off, I always keep some in the house now as a back up for when I run out of coffee I buy online
It's always worth trying out other brands because companies source base ingredients for cost and often the flavour changes due to this going on so much more these days. I don't know what happened to my favourite Douwe Egbert this year but it always tastes like floor sweepings. I started trying out different ground coffees but haven't found one that isn't either too bitter or too flavourless i will be experimenting with the Lavazza next, so thank you that. I finally bought Kenco Millicano and love it. You can buy 6 tins for £18 so that cuts the price a fair bit. I will get some Asda Essentials, try it out and and pop a couple in my stores for when coffee is more expensive than gold!!! I sound like Goldilocks here...lol!
Following on from this comparison I bought a jar of Sainsbury's Hubbard's Foodstore coffee (£1.69). Not the same taste as my usual JS decaf (£2.70), but drinkable nonetheless.
I only drink decaffeinated coffee, but before I went fully decaf I tried this one when it was smart price. Found it's nicer as a full milk coffee because it's a bit bitter but uht just essentials milk with a spoon of this isn't a bad coffee
I get the Jacobs velvet 200g for a fiver from the polish shops. It's powdered so lasts far longer than the granulated. They're cheaper for a lot of things. Also 39 p fir a herb packet. If you use a lot if spices buy the big bags from the Asian shops, works out a lot cheaper.
prejudices, that's easy for you to say, oh no its not lol, every time you recently done these comparisons, it keeps show us how these big brands are ripping us off, thanks for the review Gareth, all the best
Great video my man. Could you kindly make a follow up on this video? Where you include 2-3 mid range coffees as well? And some other premium ones like nescafe gold and nescafe azera?
Brill review gaz . I know that there is some good cheaper coffies out there , but at end of the day everyone has their preference mines nescafe original. Ive just had the essentials marmalade, and it was lovely! Why not do a marmalade comparison?. All best. Steve👍
Pop down to your local LIDL, ours has an Italian week or month on NOW, your Lavazza is £9.99, there's a couple of others 'Italiamo' for £7, I prefer Grumpy Mule from MACRO not perfect but £10 ! The Italiamo is great and for £7 you can't turn it down 😊. It's always worth keeping an eye out fror these LIDL different foods from a particular country period.
I must say, I’m choosy about coffee and can’t drink, what we call at work “Happy shopper shit” but the days of buying Azera (which is my favourite) are at an end - it never goes on offer anymore and it’s £5.00+ for a tiny tin. What I do now is go to Home Bargains or B&M and get a jar of Douwe Egberts - it’s about £5.50 at the moment but it’s a huge jar that lasts a good while and you can actually taste the coffee - a decent compromise in these dark times.
TrueStart is my fav instant roast but can be cold coffee with this one..that i never tried or dont want to. Azera and Lor coffee. Yorkshire tea and twinning tea along sometime PG or Tetlay. Like to experiment ! Earl grey or breakfast tea are good too.
Gareth youve got to watch this video back with the captions on and see what it is you like in the morning. I was shocked 🤣🤣🤣 it's between 4.55 and 5.05 minutes. Great review and insight to your private life 🤣🤣🤣
Eh up Gazza hows tha doin. I was blown away with the less expensive coffee. I drink too much coffee that I'm considering changing my name to Mr Maxwell House. Apologies I havent been commenting much but I have been watching all the videos. Thank you for being you. Your the best. Remember that when it's your turn to by me a round lol.
Hiya loved your review on the Waitrose make your own pizza I’m growing my own chillies too I have so many now do you have any tips on preserving them ie drying them out or freezing them thanks…
My mrs preferred nescafe dowegberrts etc but she never noticed when I swapped to morrisons savers coffee at 85p ,after this I'll get some Asia to go with it thanks for uploading
As I said in the recent tea bag review vid supermarket instant value coffee used to be really awful tasting like rubber, dirt etc, but recently it is of a higher quality tasting like the standard Nescafe and other more extensive brands.
Coffee is one thing I won't compromise on. I'm a heavy coffee drinker and when I've switched from my regular brand in the past I've had headaches and felt unwell. I like my Kenco red and as it isn't extortionate at around £4 a jar I'll stick with it. :)
I pay the extra £1.20 for the £2 asda coffee, gold roast I think it's called. The essentials one I keep in the cupboard for when I run out of the decent stuff. The cheapo one is actually pretty awful.
I bought this asda coffee and I use a milk frother and it's lovely. I really thought it was going to be yuk, and end up in the bin, but no it's a keeper.
The best coffee we used to use was rappor before they disbanded it,tried just about every coffee on the market as we only drink coffee every hour of the day
I'm going to try that asda essentials when I go to asda tonight to do a shop in Norwich. As long as its hot and wet my mum used to say and I'm assuming she was talking about the coffee...lol
As a confirmed tea drinker this jar of coffee is ideal for guests who occasionally pop in. I don't mind providing something I'll never drink myself but price point is so important when you can easily spend over a fiver on a jar.
Its a no brainer, I use coffe whitener instaed of milk ive also got got 2 coffe machines that are now redunant, I drink the asda coffee and cant complain. Good revieww Gaz
I don't drink coffee very often as my go to morning brew is a nice cup of tea. I have though got a small tin of kenco americano coffee in the cupboard, I will have a small mug maybe once a month with a creamer instead of milk. My nan used to buy the mellow birds coffee, she would make it half milk and half water heated together in a saucepan....it was really lovely and turned out all frothy on top. Don't know why, but my old dad would have a bottle of that camp coffee, it was horrible stuff lol!
I've never drunk Camp Coffee as a hot drink, but I always have a bottle in the cupboard as it's lovely on vanilla ice cream, or for making coffee cake and coffee milkshakes.
I don't only use instant coffee in a flask, otherwise I have fresh filter coffee or from a Tassimo machine. It is one thing that I am a bit fussy with, so I don't mind spending a little extra (within reason) for. Btw yorkshire tea for me.
Watched a recent video and subbed straight away will try the asda brand as my normal coffee is now £7.00 200g jar but still a lot of money. I will get to enjoy the new brand from Asda as I take sugar it will help with the slightly bitter taste. Nescafe gold blend is nice but now too expensive for many people.
Well folks… I’m a tea guy… have a coffee now and then… but… I highly recommend getting a water filter for your tap water as other than your kettle or coffee maker not being scaled up and lasting a lot longer if you’re in a hard water area… it takes out the horrible things that are added to the water supply (it don’t matter where you live with either hard or soft water…they still add some nasty tasting stuff to the water…so called cleaning and purifying agents)…you brew will taste much nicer for filtering your water first!! However…. After you start filtering the water…you may notice swelling of your body, feet and legs mainly…don’t worry though…it’s just your body flushing out the crap from from unfiltered tap water… it goes away and you’ll be back to normal after a few weeks…I think it’s referred to as a little known phenomenon called ‘non-toxic shock’… I feel much better for it too! Anyway, enough rambling… have a brilliant day everyone! 👍😁
I buy M&S Italian 200 grams for £5.25 nice drink and double the quantality of your Kenco. Cheap coffee well its ok especially if you stick a good glug of Whiskey Brandy or Rum in it topped up with Double Cream. Perfect for the figure and warms you up lol. Our Nespresso is Expensive to much of a Faff and turning into a pain hanging around the kitchen taking up space. Your filter machine far better value and better choice of Coffees around.
I can't be messing with my coffee ☺ I like Lor and won't be changing Lots of what you have reviewed I will have a try, but not this one BTW, love your cups ☺
I have tried lots of instant coffee & for a start I like them but half way through the jar I find that I start getting an after taste that I don’t like but with Nescafé gold blend, Nescafé Americano & some Kenco varieties I never seam to get but all the same 83p against £5 perhaps I will just have to get over it cheers 🍻!
I'll be honest, I've not drunk instant coffee for years, not since I started making my own using ground coffee in a cafitiere. The difference between that and instant really is night and day…
I'm not a big coffee drinker but I have bought the Sainsbury Gold Roast for years its very good £3 for a 200 gram Jar . That 83p one from Asda is perfect to give the in laws when they call just put it in a Nescafe jar and they won't know the difference 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers pal
Yes the Sainsburys Gold Roast is good, so is the Asda Gold Roast, maybe they could be reviewed at a later date?
😆😆😆
Thet will if they've read your comments.?
😂😂😂
Used to buy the Kenco Millicano all the time, but the price has early doubled over the 18 month's. We now buy Aldi's Gold Roast 200g.
Bit of a coffee snob myself but oooff the prices of everything have become quite shocking 😳 truly appreciate all your honest reviews cos at the end of the day we are only saving money if its worth consuming (and I hate waste)- thanks again ☕️🥰x
Cheers yes I do like my coffee too, but I was amazed at this for the price, have a good one 😊👍👍x
I never thought of judging coffee by its colour. What a philistine I've been all these years, just putting it in my mouth.
I'm a tea person myself but I'm going to show this video to my coffee guzzling friends. Thanks for another honest review 💜💜💜
You are so welcome!
Like the idea of mixing coffee with cheaper blend to make it go further.
Been there, done that.
It was better than I expected.
So glad your trying the coffee! It’s bloody amazing! Enjoy those sauces mate👍
yes was shocked by it to be honest.
@@BaldFoodieGuy yeah if your on a budget and can’t really afford it’s amazing!
I’m a big ASDA instant coffee drinker, the 83p one. Have been for last few years. Taste is pretty good and cheap as chips! Love your channel. ❤️
Thank you
Thanks very much for trying out that coffee , bless you for being brave enough to try them both , but , even better , your honesty is great , regarding the testing . Nice One Mr. Foodie Guy xx Helen Kirrage x
Our pleasure!

Thanks for trying these saving me a few quid as I'd never touch essentials before, I love the weetabix so will definitely try the coffee now 👍
You’re welcome 😊

Cheers Sean yes done good deals to be had.
Thats what I do Sean. Its on offer in Morrisons at the moment for £3.50.
The key to a great instant coffee is to boil the milk first, then preheat a cup with boiling water, add a small amount of boiling water to 1.5 teaspoons of coffee/brown sugar, pour the milk 70/30 ratio.
That's a great idea!
I like those 3 in 1s.... I used to drink the Cappuccino sachets, but switched, when I was skint, and I actually prefer them now. Kx
I really enjoy the Kenco Intense Americano (we call it Intense Ken, A real Americano hero). Worth stocking up when the co-op have it on offer for £3.50.
Asda are flying the flag for the cost of living crisis atm but I'm pretty sure all the other supermarkets will be following suit fairly rapidly 👍
yes im well impressed Ian
We have been drinking this coffee for over a year (it was smartprice previously). I am very happy with it; I use a hand frother for the smartprice soya milk and add a little cinnamon in before I pour on the water, I really enjoy it 😀

Thanks for sharing!
That KENCO Americano is lovely and tastes like quality coffee I think! But it is a bit pricey good review as always mate 👍🏽
Cheers Scott

Haha yes it is lol
I recently bought a large jar of Asda instant for £2.50 versus £5 for Nescafé and was surprised how good it was!
Stop lying to yourself 🤥
Great video. You don't need to tell us that you're just being honest, it's never in doubt. Laughed out loud at Gaz trying to say "prejudices" 🤣
haha yes couldn't say it 🤣
I am a decaf man but its amazing to think that you can get nearly 5 jars of Tesco for 1 Kenco. However, I expected Kenco to be better but not by 5 times the taste.

Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks a lot for revealing a good coffee at a cheap price. Next time I go to Asda, they will have sold out
I really think your channel is great, I was a brand snob until I saw you and I’m going to asda to shop now!
thanks 😊
I'm a kenco drinker captain. But I'll pick an asda next time we shop. Good review captain 👏 👍
thanks 😊
I like the Nescafé gold blends 👌
I put coffee, sweetener and milk then I put hot water in from the kettle and it tastes lovely very nice with a biscuit xx
Cheers 👍
I normally go with ground coffee I like darker roasts, usually a French Roast, recently out of curiosity I tried "Hubbard's Food Store" brand, a medium roast coffee from Sainsburys, I think it is their own cheaper brand, It was at least half the price of some of the other brands and while it is not my favorite, it wasn't far off, I always keep some in the house now as a back up for when I run out of coffee I buy online

Thankyou for sharing. I like coffee & walnut cake.
me too yummy
another great review. remember at that price you can even throw in another extra spoon of the asda stuff and it will taste even better
thanks 😊
Nice to see you used the fancy milk jug.
Following on from this comparison I bought a jar of Sainsbury's Hubbard's Foodstore coffee (£1.69). Not the same taste as my usual JS decaf (£2.70), but drinkable nonetheless.
thanks for review gaz it really is amazing how top brands you pay so much for luvin your blogs
You're welcome
I only drink decaffeinated coffee, but before I went fully decaf I tried this one when it was smart price. Found it's nicer as a full milk coffee because it's a bit bitter but uht just essentials milk with a spoon of this isn't a bad coffee

I’m growing my own chillies too I have so many now do you have any tips on preserving them ie drying them out or freezing them thanks…
hi Kim mine are in the freezer now. If you repot them over winter they should be again I think. Im a novice too.
My mrs preferred nescafe dowegberrts etc but she never noticed when I swapped to morrisons savers coffee at 85p ,after this I'll get some Asia to go with it thanks for uploading
Haha yes this is like Nescafe
Wow 😮
*This is revolutionary 🔥🔥🔥👌*
At that price it's worth trying!
As I said in the recent tea bag review vid supermarket instant value coffee used to be really awful tasting like rubber, dirt etc, but recently it is of a higher quality tasting like the standard Nescafe and other more extensive brands.
Yes they used to be shocking Bob

You described the coffee as being a little more bitter.. I love a strong black coffee that bitter taste is right up my street 👍
Spot on
Yeah I like the bitter taste of some coffees too.
I pay the extra £1.20 for the £2 asda coffee, gold roast I think it's called. The essentials one I keep in the cupboard for when I run out of the decent stuff. The cheapo one is actually pretty awful.

Hi Gareth goo review as usual I don't drink coffee but they didn't look that different 😀
cheers Sue
Just bought a Dolce Gusto machine it's fab,l also love Kenco coffee
I really like the Nescafe Alta Rica. Don't tend to bother with anything else. Everything else tastes cheap compared tp that 🤣
I have the kenco rich coffee and its the only one i buy. I could drink cheap coffee if somebody made it but i do enjoy my kenco. 👍😉
Cheers mate

I don't drink coffee very often as my go to morning brew is a nice cup of tea. I have though got a small tin of kenco americano coffee in the cupboard, I will have a small mug maybe once a month with a creamer instead of milk. Cheers James, yes can't beat a good cup of tea.
I've never drunk Camp Coffee as a hot drink, but I always have a bottle in the cupboard as it's lovely on vanilla ice cream, or for making coffee cake and coffee milkshakes.
You can find the kenco for £2.50... the Lidl Tanzania and Costa Rica ones are excellent..£2.09 !!
You need to try the home bargains frozen madras curry against supermarket frozen curries, it's gorgeous, I limit myself to one a week.
Thanks for the tip!
@Laura i think he has already done that madras one, and yes they are good, but hard to get now, my local has not had it for weeks.
I do love the dearer one but do like Lidl instant coffee ,but will be giving the asda a go for sure .Cheers
Cheers Lee
Good video,we have a cheap instant coffee for one pound in the cupboard and Kenco too,and the cheap one is okay
Sounds great!
Nescafe gold blend is nice but now too expensive for many people.
thanks 😊 welcome here, all the best Gareth
I go in shock when my beer supply runs low
I buy M&S Italian 200 grams for £5.25 nice drink and double the quantality of your Kenco. Cheap coffee well its ok especially if you stick a good glug of Whiskey Brandy or Rum in it topped up with Double Cream. Perfect for the figure and warms you up lol. Our Nespresso is Expensive to much of a Faff and turning into a pain hanging around the kitchen taking up space. Your filter machine far better value and better choice of Coffees around.
I'm a bit common I love Nescafé from jar and kettle at home.. as long as it's wet and warm I guess it doesn't matter lol
I can't be messing with my coffee ☺ I like Lor and won't be changing
Lots of what you have reviewed I will have a try, but not this one
BTW, love your cups ☺
thanks 😊
I have tried lots of instant coffee & for a start I like them but half way through the jar I find that I start getting an after taste that I don’t like but with Nescafé gold blend, Nescafé Americano & some Kenco varieties I never seam to get but all the same 83p against £5 perhaps I will just have to get over it cheers 🍻!
cheers Ian
I'll be honest, I've not drunk instant coffee for years, not since I started making my own using ground coffee in a cafitiere. The difference between that and instant really is night and day…
