Reliving The War takes an in-depth look at the WWF vs WCW "Monday Night War" era of pro wrestling. Week by week every episode of Raw and Nitro gets covered (including every match and every promo) to find out which show was really the best.
On Nitro this week David Flair finds himself in a main event World Championship match against Kevin Nash. An 8-Man tag match takes place featuring the nWo B-Team vs Curt Hennig and company, Disco Inferno and Ernest Miller compete in a dancing competition, and Sid Vicious has his first ever singles match on Nitro.
Vince McMahon celebrates this week on Raw; he and the Corporate Ministry are happy with how King of the Ring turned out but Stone Cold Steve Austin has a big announcement that leads to a WWF Title match happening on Raw. Steve Blackman faces Ken Shamrock in a weapons match, Billy Gunn takes on Bradshaw, and The Rock vs Triple H happens once again this week in the War Zone.

"tune in next week and we'll probably won't find out" is the most WCW sentence ever
Tune in next week for another run in...
@@yoholmes273and another DQ. Followed by another run in...and another DQ.

28:55 is the laziest elbow drop ever 😂
My 12 year old has heard me watch reliving the war each week and asked me to watch with him. He’s hooked. This era spoke to everyone and now it’s speaking to a new generation!
This channel has a series called the "Best of..." designed specifically to help newer fans find matches featuring legends of the past. If interested, I'd recommend it.
As always your the man brother
That is so cool.
❤
Big fan of that. Imagine watching the war for the first time over 😮😮😮😢😢😢
22:42 "Edge ends up helping this young mother of 6"
🤣🤣🤣
The birth of the "Rated R Superstar" lol
Nice of Sean Waltman's mom to show up.
I'm the Jabroni (Michael) mentioned in this video! Thank you! Love the show!
You’re a Jam-Up Jabroni tho don’t let anyone take it away from you my guy lol
A new RTW LEGEND!!
"But, my name is Billy." 😂 Is all I could think this episode. 😂😂
Bob?
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOUR NAME IS!!
Oh Dear God
You see, my name is Billy and I've just won the King of the ring but everybody thinks that I ABSOLUTELY SUCK!!!
@@cjtquk just then the clouds parts and God himself spoke to Billy Gunn
God: now listen here Bobby
"The other people's elbow." For DDP's elbow drop. Sweet and to the point.
DDP was the people's champ first, plus he's a heel now
Now I was going to say "the People's other elbow."
Regal would've been the funniest heavyweight champion for WCW but, would've also brought some class back to that championship. Very underrated performer in my opinion.
HHH's attire has finally hit its final form.
The birth of The Game 🐐
@@leseditongela663Not quite but we are VERY close. He will drop that promo on Sunday Night Heat right before Fully Loaded.
Until 2003, when he went through a crisis and couldn't decide what color / type of trunks he wanted to wear.
@@JobberBud That was essentially his tribute to Flair.
But that wasn't even his final form at all. Come the Ruthless Aggression Era and beyond, The King of Kings, is his final form.
Jerry Lynn w/ an F’s face 😂 OMG 🤣
Damn I totally forgot about the Steve Blackman crossover with WCW. Truly groundbreaking stuff happening in 99.
Makes Rick Rude's appearance on both shows on the same night look like nothing.
DDP's elbow - Dropping the BANG!
After all these years I never knew it was Bossman who lifted the briefcase
Nah, it was Big Bossman.
I remember there was speculation that it was Steve Blackman. That Blackman was going to join the Corporate Ministry and helping Vince and Shane win the ladder match against Austin was his admission ticket.
Yeah I didn't have cable in them days. I watched Smackdown, Shotgun, and WCW Saturday Night lol.
The Jerry Lynn f-bomb is the funniest thing I’ve seen in quite some time 😂
I can’t believe the main event for Fully Loaded was almost Undertaker vs. Triple H.
That would have been awesome
I love the lore you've crafted for Blackman
Steve Mu-fuggin' Blackman!!
I'm excited to see how the Blackman intro changes up once Blackman's theme changes.
@@coryshannon3815 Love to see what's done for his tag run with Al Snow too.
Straight out of the muh-fug dojo.
Lore? Pretty sure all of these are documented and verified
Love that Mean Street Posse theme 😂
It's a classic
Iconic.
What song is it remixed with here?
I want a full version
It's so good
No one took the Clothesline from Hell better than Billy Gunn
The absolute contrast here between main events is astounding. One side is David Flair vs Big Sexy Nash. The other side is two of the biggest stars ever in Stone Cold vs Undertaker. Yeah thats a lobsided main event ticket.
Yeah, WCW couldn't stand a chance with that kind of booking.
24:42 The Diamond Stutter
Man. Eddie was just poetry in motion when he was in the ring.
DDP's elbow drop is "The Real People's Elbow"
The beginning of the end of an era. The final chapter in the Austin vs Vince saga begins.
22:08 that face is legendary 😆
Never knew William regal returned to WCW after his 98 WWF run
“Edge ends up helping this young mother of six…”😂😂😂 well done sir
The road to fully loaded end of an era match 😅
The best match between Austin and Taker in WWE"s RAW and Attitude Era History that, not only became a Do or Die situation, but this match alone, the *"Legend of Charlotte",* eventually brought RAW back on track against Nitro.
lol @ the sign “WCW BLOWS, MASTER P SWALLOWS”
I loved the signs during this era.
@@williamsmith666 "Goldberg Eats Corn the Long Way"
Started watching the series from the beginning in January of this year…..finally I am caught up and watching it as it’s being uploaded
I knew the Bossman came down to his old music at some point but I couldn’t remember when! I thought I imagined it. Thank you Reliving the War!
I was at Raw that night. My boss at the golf course i was working at in Greenville, SC radioed us all to be at the maintenance building by 3. Had us all clock out at 3:16 pm, then surprised us all with tickets to Nitro in Cherlotte that night. It was made even more awesome by Austin winning the title that night. What an awesome time, man. Ed, if you’re a Reliving the War guy and you see this, thank you, brother. Best boss ever
🤘
Never happened.. It’s false .. We made that one up.
@@sherrix6881 imagine the misery it takes to seek out people you’ve never met to try and undermine their life experiences. I sincerely hope you find the happiness you are missing in your life.
Monday Night war dream match- Jerry Flynn vs Steve Blackman! 😂
That's Jerry Lynn with an F 😂
Kurt Hennig wrote a better hit country song than Double J
Jerry Flynn’s face 😂🤣😂🤣
The main thing we should take away from this series is that Austin vs Undertaker was just not a very interesting match up despite the numerous matches they had.
I cant wait for Too Cool and the Rikishi Music. I Hope it finds a place Here every week :)
Ive been very excited for 2 cool and Rikishi to get here as well.
Love the continued story of Steve Blackman, if for no other reason than we know he is legit one of the toughest men in wrestling history and you could feasibly see both companies going to all these extra lengths to stop the final boss known as the 'mufuggin one'.
DDP elbow drop. The "4D" Diamond Dallas Death Drop
The Stephanie guys on the video cover 😂 we see you WrestlingBios.
Lol good observation lol
Just missing her on a white couch
Macho man dated Stephanie??
I'm with Team Madness all the way! You understand that Triple H, I'm gonna take Stephanie McMahon for a ride around the block!
"Triple H dashes to the ring to get his monkey piss" is one of the funniest things Ive heard in a while
The Undertaker wouldn't be WWF champion again until the Judgement Day PPV 2002.
Its actually kind of amazing that WCW had Randy Savage Sid vicious DDP bam bam Bigelow ric flair Roddy piper sting and Kevin Nash and STILL couldn't book a semi decent main event with that level of talent. The level of incompetence is actually remarkable
Thank u man not only do u put the time in for this but paint one of the best vocal pictures ever
Take this with a grain of salt as my only real source is TV Tropes, but originally, Malia Hosaka was supposed to be a Rocky Balboa type character where she was going to climb up the rankings of the women's division and then challenge Ivory for the belt, however it got scrapped because "too many fans recognized her.".
Kevin Dunn is my guess with that...has his stink all over it.
I never thought I'd say this but I really look forward to seeing Mean Street Posse on this show every week. I love that song 😂
14:24 the MVPs of this part of RtW 😂😂
If you watch the Nitro segment with Flair, Macho, etc making the deal, there’s a moment where Sid shakes Arn’s hand that I always heard was them kinda moving past the whole scissor incident from years prior. Not sure if that’s true or if it’s just cause they’re “allies” on TV, but it’s a cool thing to notice.
Since DDP is the peoples champ, it should be called the people's elbow
My favorite part of Thursday has arrived!! Time to relive the war with Wrestling Bios 😼
I saw James Brown at Glastonbury 2004 😂 was pretty good.
15:46 Kane lost a fair amount of weight in 1999. For a normal guy that size looks healthy enough, but for Kane this year was like his "skinny" phase.
Mean Street Posse are the Ed Edd n Eddy of wrestling.
Ed, Edd & Eddy took way more Ws than the Posse 😂
@@TrevStoker Pete Gas: Ed
Rodney: Double D
Joey Abs: Eddy
I remember when I saw this initially I popped huge for Boss Man coming out with the hard time theme lol. I was a kid again briefly, and was swerved by the immediate heel realignment.
I recently came across a match on CZcams from 1988. The Islanders and "High Chief" Afi vs. Outback Jack, another jobber, and a young Steve Blackman. Haku and Blackman only faced off directly for a few seconds, almost as though they realized if they actually fought the entire universe may explode. I never knew that match existed though, and thought it was a cool random matchup to find.
Got a big smile on my face when I saw there was a David Flair match scheduled.
Your reviews on those are always a highlight for me.
The Shane Donkey sign made my face hurt from laughing so hard
I just got my mom into Reliving the War. LOL she's never been into wrestling in her entire life but this series has her hooked. She wants Norman Smiley back. Lmao well done as always Ryan
She'll get him soon enough once he hits 2000 lol.
@@ajk DON'T STOP MOVING BABY ALL THAT BOOTY DRIVE ME CRAZY WIGGLE WIGGLE
2 of Stephanie’s guys in the thumbnail. I see what you did there. First time hearing My Time theme on RAW on this episode
Flair, Piper, Savage, and Sid could've actually been a pretty nice faction, maybe a revamped Horsemen, had WCW invested their time in such an idea. Sure would've beat some of the other goofiness in that company
Does anyone know where the statue of the iconic David flair is located 😂😂😂
I remember this episode vividly after 25 years. I was jumping up and down when Austin beat Taker. I never expected a real match between Austin and Taker, much less a title change.
Back then, i was so into wrestling, i bought every ppv. It felt like a slap in the face to watch the belt stay on ppv, then the belt change on cable..
@@WoodrosWorld Considering how often Raw was ending in 3 minute matches that turned to brawls, they needed the occasional big match. Raw at this time was still heavy on matches that were really just angles. The idea of proper matches on free TV didn't take hold in WWE till 2000-01
@@andrelegeant88 you make a valid point.
I love Shamrock... but against Steve Mufuggin Blackman? Game over. Why did he leave the Mufuggin Dojo?!
I mean, no matter how much Masakatsu Funaki and Minoru Suzuki can train and toughen you up, nothing can prepare you for Steve 'Mufuggin' Blackman.
One mufugg kick and it's all over.
Now onto Austin's last title reign during the war. The next time he wins the title will be at Wrestlemania X7 which takes place six days after the war ends. Billy Gunn's push and the beginning of his feud with the Rock which will send him crashing back to tag team wrestling. They were really trying to make Billy Gunn happen here.
If memory serves me right, I believe we are close to the end of Flair being the kayfabe WCW president. I can't remember if that happens before or after the next PPV.
The cutting edge for the elbow drop
legitimately had no idea Malia Hosaka was ever on Raw. learn something with this series all the time!
Fully Loaded is my favorite PPV of 99 and probably easily one of my favorite of the entire Attitude Era. Some great matches and I love how the storyline intersected with each other.
8:15 I’m guessing WCW didn’t fully commit to Lodi and Lane as an actual romantic couple. If WCW had, this likely wouldn’t be the first time I’m learning about this storyline. Instead of us wrestling fans reminiscing about the Billy and Chuck storyline (and how badly that ended, lol), we would instead be doing so about Lodi and Lane.
(1999-me had stopped watching WCW a few weeks ago, so this and other WCW storylines from this time are mostly new to me.)
I guess I’ll see what happens as Reliving the War progresses. Although this is late-stage WCW, so it’s possible there is zero payoff to this, lol.
Fun fact this is the last time the Undertaker holds this version of the title and only holds the WWF/E Title one more time. Also Hardcore Hak looks like David Flair if he was wasted
I just started the podcasts of these! They are amazing!! Love listening to the stories and breakdown of each show while I’m at work! Keep it up. Any way you could make a playlist for the ppvs on Apple podcast tho? If not I’m fine with checking on CZcams. Thanks for all your work
It's that time of the week again
I love Thursday
Great band
Biosday.
😂😂 mix the I hate rap with the mean street posse beat 😂😂 just a suggestion
So me and hundreds of others really want the Smokey the Cat shirt in Hitman pink. Just so you know.....
Facts
And we've entered the era of leather, backwards Kangol hat Triple H! Today has been a rough one, so this Reliving the War was right on time!!
When I was a kid he looked half biker and cool in that hat. Now that Im an adult and see him in that hat I cringe.
For some reason, I believed for a moment that Blackman did went to WCW event, but you got me.
One of my favorite Raws because it was the night Stone Cold regained the WWE Championship. Two years in Row Austin Regained the WWE Championship the night after the King of the Ring. Only that year King of the Ring he was not the Champion. Still it made me happy to see being Champion again.
I LOVE your new schtick of doing "research" in your videos (not just RTW, but in general), you just skim it, then just "Whatever...." and quickly switch back to the video.
Subscriber of over 5 years (February 2019), and You just keep getting better and better Ryan.
WCW For Life.
THANK GOD IT'S THURSDAY!!!
The best part of the week right here!!
Finally caught up with the war after binging for the past week!
What's amazing to me is that I didn't start watching WWF until 2000 so all the stuff I remember happening hasn't been covered yet!
That's about when I stopped watching. Late 2000 into 2001
Thank God I need this
Bro you are the best of the best
Greetings and thanks for the hard work making these from USA
The kicking the flies bit made me fart laugh dude😂 and let’s with the yoga drop 😊
HERE WE GO!
21:00 omfg The cat kicking flies out of the ring almost made me do a spit take for real rofl
Also as a basketball fan, its really funny to me Michael Jordan had a statue outside the Chicago Bulls arena in 99 and would then come back as a player for the Washington Wizards in 2001.
It's reliving the war on a Thursday. It's for the greater good
The James Brown bit was hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂
"The wrestling is real, people are fake elbow."
I swear DDP used that phrase on some of his merch at some point. No idea if anyone likes my suggestion but I popped myself ateast.
If you don't choose mine I'll tell Steve Mufuggin Blackman that you're currently producing a "best of" country music album with bonus, never heard before, country cover of the Mufug music.
Both themes.
I mean it, by God. I'll do it. I'm crazy.
Dude the whole story line with Steve Blackman is getting so out of control at this point and I absolutely love every MUHFUGGIN second of it lmao
24:39 DDP’s elbow drop. I’d call it the ‘Diamond Drill’ with how he spins it around before bringing it down.
Good lord, I did not realize how long nWo stayed around as a stinking, festering corpse of its former self. YEEZUS!!
The posse songs always makes me laugh lmao
keeps it up brotha🤙, best wrestling content
Young mother of 6 made me lol
The name for DDP’s odd little elbow drop should be the “Greetings from Spazzberry”
At this point I am primarily here for the Steve Blackman lore
brilliant as always
DDP’s elbow…the Bada Boom Drop or…
the Bada Bang ‘Bow 😂
