Great videos In Buffalo New York where I live according to death of the territory Pedro Martinez and his son-in-law ilio DiPaolo play Outlaw territory Buffalo New York Ohio and Pennsylvania at that time
Absolutely amazing great work lads
While I appreciate the amazing amount of detail and factual research that has gone into this there are 2 pretty significant omissions that I feel deserve mentioning outside of these omissions amazing stuff cannot wait for the next one.
Firstly the issue with Rogers after he became NWA champ was that Mcmahon and Mondt kept him almost exclusively to their territories as they owned his contract exclusively and not the NWA and could control where Rogers appeared during his reign meaning only they were benefitting from his star power and resulting in the NWA having to go through them to get Rogers to appear for another territory and got tired of it and so finally got Rogers to drop the belt to Lou Thesz in a one fall match instead of a 2 fall one as was tradition at the time resulting in the ceceding from the NWA that followed the next day after Rogers loss.
The other is a slight error on Ali being brought in to be guest ref outside the ring that ended up being his role but he was actually meant to ref the match inside the ring but Patterson ever the veteran saw something was off with Ali all day and feared he would blow it so suggested to Vince that he be referee and Ali would officiate outside the ring so that Patterson could act if anything went down and it was a good thing Patterson did that as he had to restrain Ali when he tried to run in at one point.
Again outside of these 2 facts being omitted or slightly misconstrued amazing stuff and the amount of detail showed wrestling stuff that I didn't even know and my knowledge is pretty extensive in it's own right the Inoki deal before Mania was something I didn't know as well as the original name for Mania before Fink coined the name we know and love today.
That said amazing stuff and look forward to part 2
@Cultaholic. Backland was replaced do to his neck ingury by someone else............."guess who" you ask.................hmm I'll take a wild guess it was Andre the Giant" he won the belt and Andre mania was born....🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂 ...... you asked the question.😂😂😂 keep up good work on your videos.
I know I'm not the only one hoping for a presentation like this on every era.
No you're not. I hope they do this for every era going forward.
Yes please 🙏
I can't wait for the Roman Reigns era one
One for every era would be amazing.
Was just thinking the same thing
No other channel comes close to Cultaholic in terms of these videos, they’re so well made and produced. Huge fan.
Almost as good as OSW’s
@_Pauper_
nothing is as good as OSW's
Wrestle Me! is like an England osw knockoff though. It's very good.
's replaces "in terms of these". Don't write like a trite lemming. It's tedious.
Wendigoon and BHUltra
@_Pauper_ I feel like OSW is more of a "chronological critique" more like reviews of specific events/shows, whereas Cultaholic is more of a documentary of specific periods. Equally brilliant but definitely different
This felt like a professional level documentary that should have been on TV or Streaming Service.
Too well done and not enough DEI politics for any of the crap streaming or TV today.
Haha seriously. That shit gets on my nerves. @@cult_of_odin
@@cult_of_odin Cultaholic most likely supports DEI politics, dummy. You can't go a moment without seething about people of color can you, bud?
RIP to all the legends who helped build the WWF and the eventual WWE. And the thanks for those still here.
Cheers 🍻 to that
This was the best documentary on early WWF I've ever seen! This series is going to be epic!
Love this from Worcester a cornerstone WWF/WWE from 1963 to still today
Now that all 4 are released, I'm gonna sit and watch all 7hr 55 minutes of content at once because Sam and the team put so much effort into it that it would be rude not to
😂😂😂😂😂
I was born in '83, so I got to marvel at the best of the Golden Age as a child, got jaded at the New Generation and lose my mind (to my mom's dismay) at the absurd splendor of the Attitude Era as a young teenager. You cant beat that with a Singapore Cane.
I've been a viewer of this channel since it was created. Listen to me clearly: this is the absolute best video you've ever made. I hope you're very proud. You deserve it. It was an absolute delight to take this walk down memory lane. WWE itself couldn't make a video this thorough and entertaining. 😊
Listen to you? They can only read it, since it is written.
@@jim-elliottIt’s a figure of speech. 😂 People like you make me laugh. If only… huh?
@@C23O Let me graciously enlighten your lexical journey. "Listen to me" isn't a figure of speech; it's a literal command often employed in oral communication, a directive urging the recipient to attend to the spoken words.
Now, basking in the radiant glow of your linguistic finesse, I marvel at your unique ability to transform the mundane into the extraordinary. Your comment, a true masterpiece of irony, has left an indelible mark on the annals of linguistic discourse. Bravo, maestro! 🎭✨
@@jim-elliottYou can't be that miserable on purpose.
@@MyNameIsUnavailable Ah, your keen insight has unraveled the depths of my emotions with the precision of a heartstring surgeon. Your astute observation has uncovered the secret: I am, indeed, the puppet master of my own misery, orchestrating each sorrowful note with a morose delight. Such wisdom! How fortunate I am to have my emotional intricacies dissected by one so perceptive. Your commentary is truly a beacon of enlightenment in the dimly lit expanse of my self-inflicted gloom. Bravo! 🎭✨
This was an online seminar in the history of professional wrestling. It was very well done. The golden age of WWE will never be reproduced.
Where has this been my whole life? A series? This is what I want. This should be entry level for newer WWF/WWE fans and some who forgot things.👍❤
😂😂😂😂
I became a fan of wwf in 1982 at the age of 10....this is like a walk down memory lane
The strategic mind of Vince McMahon is truly something.
Maybe when he started out but he just resigned under the a barrage of sexual allegations from female employees including wrestlers. He'll need that "strategic" mind to get out of this one.
Or a sufficient bribe to the right judge. Lol @@michaelwolf6424
I became a wrestling nut in early to mid-eighties. I was around for all this. It was really exciting. The time just before and around the very start of Hogan's first run fascinates me to no end. What a fantastic video.
great times before fans cared more about backstage news than actual story lines great times when fans would be invested in storylines and not do dumb chants and slow clap for move sets they approve of 🤣
1987 once I saw clips of WM3 & then Survivor Series, I was hooked. Seeing the wrestling business prior to that is fascinating particularly as we had very little coverage here in England.

The time, effort, and hard work you guys put into this really shows. Super great stuff all around and thank you for the years of content!
I'm surprised that Pat Patterson didn't get into more trouble for the ring boy scandal and giving current wrestlers oral sex if they wanted to be big stars they had to go through him
This is absolutely marvelous. Super Stars of Wrestling is on the air! Thursday night must see viewing here in Australia.
I was 22 when I started watching, now I'm 60!
Randy The Macho Man Savage is, was and will always be the Lord and Master of the Ring!
This is worthy of being on a major television station. Fantastic detail.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I can't imagine how much effort and time must have gone into putting this together. Absolutely top class video. Well done and thanks.
😂😂😂😂😅
WOW... this is an absolutely incredible documentary! The Golden Age is very, very special to me. I became a wrestling fan in the spring of '85, shortly after 'Mania. I became a fan because of the LJN WWF figures. I didn’t know much about wrestling, but when I saw the first commercial for those figures, I had to have them. As a result, I became obsessed with wrestling and I consumed as much pro wrestling as possible, not just the WWF. Those toys are what started my passion for wrestling, and nearly 40 years later, that passion is still ongoing.
*A certified Cultaholic classic*
I read that as Catholic classic, lol
This Era was so magical and perfection! Not to down any other Era but this era was something special the roster was so evenly yoked! You had your draws: Hulk Hogan, Junk Yard Dog, Andre The Giant, Superfly Jimmy Snuka, SuperStar Billy Graham
Then you had your workers: Greg Valentine, Tito Santana, Macho Man, Ricky Steamboat etc.
You also had your larger than life character: Bushwackers, HonkytonkMan, George Steele etc.
The way Vince saw his opportunity and took it, is something commendable.
1989 to 1991 = the best 3 years in WWF history
😂
More like 85-87
@@MyNameIsUnavailable88-90 best years
88-92 are the best wwf years ever imo
85 to 89
Love the subtitles on CZcams videos: "Superstar Jimmy Snooker" 😂
Thank you for this great trip through my childhood. Cultaholic…what the world is watching
WWF the upstart company many wrestling fans thought was too flashy (because it wasn’t wrasslin’) & upset long held tradition (because it wasn’t the NWA). It even had a touch and go start with errors & lows before getting it all together. All In under 1/2 a decade.
What a fantastic documentary. Top notch editing, scripting, and narration.
Take a bow.
This is super timely - I’m doing a project on Wrestlemanias and just watched 1 and 2 over the weekend.
Cultaholic Wrestling remains the pinnacle of professionalism and respect for the business and its history. Well done. I’m proud to support when I can.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This was absolutely brilliant, kudos to Sam and all the folks behind the scenes that worked on this documentary. This is the best type of content Cultaholic puts out.
I cannot believe this was a free documentary. I was hooked 12 minutes in and that was only watching the backstory! More please!!!
Guys, seriously! Sam and company take a bow! You guys are always awesome but this was on another level! Truly one of the best documentaries on wrestling I have ever seen, not just Internet! I personally am having bad mental health right now and this has put a smile on my face! Thank you very much for this!!
Cultaholics long form videos are in a class of their own. Another amzing job to the entire team!
My favorite part?? Seeing this “part 1”. Yassss 🍿
Simply incredible.... No one does wrestling long form content than cultaholic
Saved watching all 4 of these on Christmas Day. You lads don't miss with these videos. So good!
This was fantastic!…bravo and thank you! It ended just before the next big part of the WWE Golden Era story, which was NBC and Saturday Night’s Main Event!
Wow!! I've been watching wrestling for 35 years and I actually learned somethings. What a great documentary! Can't wait for part 2!!
4 minutes in and I already have seen the place i grew up in. Seeing Wilkes-Barre in these kinds of videos always gets me . Also Vince "dying" in Wilkes-Barre is some real long term booking I see.
No one can top cultaholics with wee documentary give this man a show he should be the narrator behind dark side in the ring
was lucky enough to be a kid in the 80s and experience all of this while it happened. one of the greatest days of my childhood was going to nassau coliseum with my dad to watch wrestlemania 3 on closed circuit
I’m going to watch this a MULTITUDE of times. Kudos to the script writers, editors, and of course Sam for who knows how many hours it takes to record a near 2 hour video. As someone who’s done radio work, let alone script reading/writing - it’s an incredible endeavour (no pun intended).
Ok so I think I just watched THE GREATEST CZcams wrestling video EVER. can’t wait for part 2 ! Awesome job !
This video is incredibly well done and very impressive! As someone who grew up as a little kid in the '80s the level of nostalgia that I'm enjoying while watching this video cannot be put into words. Thank you very much!
Once all parts are finished this could be released as a book series for coffee tables done by Cultaholic- don’t leave money on the table boys 🥳
When Vince Jr. became Mr. McMahon
Dude, I'm so ready to lose myself in watching all of this series.
People of my generation (90’s kid born in the mid 80’s), usually seem to prefer the attitude era first, but not me, the golden era will always be my favorite.
The time and research it took to make this video is appreciated. Awesome work
I feel like 1982-1992 wasn't just a golden age for the WWF and wrestling it was a golden age for America too. In terms of having a balanced and more united country. Our culture was just great then before social media and definitely as far as pop culture and our movies, music, and tv shows. We had some good years after this too for sure but if you look at wrestling it was for sure and I also loved this period for NBA Basketball and boxing. So many classic movies from that period...too many to mention.
These documentaries are so well done I have really enjoyed them and reliving my childhood when I lived for wrestling. Well done!
The Brain and Gorilla were gold. In my opinion, the best wrestling broadcast team.
Monsoon and Ventura were great together also
THIS WAS AWSOME 👊👊
Thank You for putting the time into this
This may be the best work this channel has ever done. It's so monumental that I have to be concerned there's no way you guy's will be able to follow it up and keep it going. I hope I'm wrong.
I'm 43 and watch New Generation WWF on peacock every night with my boys 6&9. We're watching Superstars, Raw and PPVs chronologically having recently watched WMX. They love Doink, Razor and Lex Luger, hate Crush, Owen and The King. Soon we'll be coming to the Attitude era and I'll have to hit the breaks, because they ain't ready for Sunny!
At that time, we'll be rewinding back to the Golden Era and the birth of Hulkamania forward.
I live in Bethlehem Pa, right next to Allentown, where AG Hall is located on the Allentown Fairgrounds. While I was to young to ever see the WWF there, history shows that the WWF made the monthly stop there, filming TV quite often through the end of the 80s. Towards 97’, ECW began to run there twice a year, although they never ran TV. Allentown has quite the Pro Wrestling history, with AG Hall, Stabler Arena and now the PPL Center holding events, AFA ran the Wild Samoan Training Center down the st from the mall, where Manu, Billy Kidman, Snitsky, Batista and more trained, the Nasty Boys went to Whitehall HS and frequently dropped Chew St in their promos and Jimmy Snuka was accused of killling his girlfriend at a local hotel where a Home Depot now stands. Anyway AG Hall and Stabler Arena are hardly used anymore, with AG Hall being perfect for a ROH or GCW. I remember meeting Fatu at the training center for a birthday party, getting Bam Bam Bigelows autograph at Gregory’s Steakhouse and seeing Knobs, all of 6’5 wearing a leather trench coat that was also 6’5 long, at the Lehigh Valley Mall. One final memory, in the late 90s Shane Douglas was getting sued for punching a fan at AG Hall. I was right there, as a 12 year old, following Shane and I believe Tommy Dreamer fight through the crowd to the snack stand. I stood right behind Douglas as a fan open hand slapped the shit out of his back, and I watched as the Franchise turned and dropped the guy with a right hand. I believe the suit got dropped.
This is phenomenal. I really enjoyed this. Keep it up, you all need as a gofundme or a Patreon to make more of these. Fantastic work guys
I mean is it even a debate anymore? Cultaholic is the BEST wrestling CZcams channel and it’s not even close!! Nothing compares to the quality of these videos.
Best history recount of WWF I have ever seen - the detail and break down is top class. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. Unbelievable.
Another great video! The rerason the Golden age cannot be reproduced is also because kayfabe has died since...
If like me, you were born late 70s , Wrestling was a major part of life, especially Monday morning, after a big match when you and your friends reenacted the latest big match.
To have been a kid in the 80s is a hell of a blessing 😊
Can't wait to watch the whole series
One of the greatest Tag Team matches ever was Atlas and Johnson vs Dick Murdock and Adrian Adonis. The Golden Era
Omg. I can't wait for part 2! Such a great video Broseph! Thank you. We appreciate it...
Born in 1970..remember Bruno > Graham> Backlund transition.. growing up in queens watched WWF on CH. 9 sat mornings & sat at 11 pm.. saw matches at MSG, and even local- Sunnyside Gardens .. This was my WWF era- nobody talks about the WWF in the early 80’s pre-hogan without it being ridiculed, I was out by the end of the decade.. thanks for this!
Golden Era video is absolutely top notch. Just a small token of my appreciation
Thank you!
I love this video as someone who grew up in Grafton, Ma between two conerstone WWF cities Boston, and Worcester long before the Golden era where WWF would come to the Worcester Auditorium and later Centrum/DCU Center and Boston Garden and later TD Garden once a month. It was magical and a great time to be a fan. Worcester would go on to have major wwf/wwe history in years to come mainly in the attitude era. in 1999 Mic Foley winning the WWF title would change wrestling forever
Best video ever made about the early days of the WWF under Vince Mcmahon Jr. Now it's on to Part 2!
I've been a long time fan/subscriber of the channel and have been thoroughly entertained over the years. With that being said, I've seen a great many documentaries, retrospectives, breakdowns, recaps or whatever you wanna call it on the history (or various era's) of the WWF. But this is hands down the absolute best one I've had the privilege to see. Everyone at Cultaholic needs to give themselves a pat on the back. You really knocked it out of the park. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to all the new top notch content in the future. Cheers.
Cultaholic has by far the best pro wrestling content on CZcams. Such a great documentary
This is the kind of content I want from Cultaholic, not lazy list videos.
Keep this format.
Best WWF documentary I've ever seen...give yourself a pat on the back.
This is amazing... I wish this was all on DVD.
I miss 1980's pro wrestling. Thank you!
Fell down the CZcams rabbit hole upon this. It was a great time to grow up in. Every Saturday afternoon my brother and I watched wrestling. Our Dad got us a subscription to the WWF magazine and took us to a front row show at Joe Louis Arena. I was lucky to see many of the OG greats live - Macho Man, Bret Hart, Jake the Snake, Hercules, Mr Perfect, Rick Rude, Koko B Ware, the Bushwhackers...
Thanks for this walk down memory lane. Earned my sub x1000
I loved this, thank you all at Cultaholic for doing what you all do! Please keep it coming!
You deserve an Oscar for this. This is better than documentaries on television...better researched, more informative, more entertaining.
Glad you mentioned and spent a good amount of time on the Snuka incident. To this day that still gets swept under the rug
EXCELLENT doc! To anybody who might be scared off by the near two-hour length, it is well worth your time. Thanks to all involved for the time and effort put into this. It fills in a lot of the gaps I never knew.
Hogan is the linchpin the whole thing. It couldn't be anybody else. Nobody else had the level of fame. Between the reach of the AWA and Rocky III.
Working a gy shift tonight and I know how my first 2 hours are going to be spent. As always, thank you Cultaholic. Thank you Sam, Thank you Jack, Thank you Ross and of course Thank you Adam P.
And a huge thank you to Fraser and Aiden & all the editors and writers for keeping the keep, keeping on, keeping on. Keep on boys.
From the commentary to the imagery, everything is perfect about this.
This is absolutly brilliant! I was born in 1979 and some of my earlist memories are watching wrestling with my papa. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
Watching this growing up was Awesome.Nothinglike seeing Andre the Giant on TV for the first time.A feeling so Nostalgic it makes you feel young again.
I never realized that Hogan was in Rocky 3 before he even went to WWF.
So fun watching this as an adult. Loved this stuff as a kid. Really well done.
This is right where I jumped in. On a family trip in early 82, my cousin introduced me to wrestling (I was 9 or 10). From that point on every Saturday morning was watching 3 hours of wrestling - my local channel in Buffalo, the WWOR show from NY on cable, and the Maple Leaf Wrestling show out of Toronto. I was at the Buffalo version of the Snuka/Muraco cage match - we thought there was a chance Snuka might win as there was a TV crew (which we never got back then). I was also at the card in Buffalo on Dec 27, 1983 - the night after Backlund lost to Sheik. They had to announce it to the crowd as it hadn't hit TV yet. Backlund was set to defend against the Masked Superstar with Ivan Putski at the special guest ref.
Christ on a bike guys that exceeded even your usual impeccable standards when it comes to long form deep dives. Can't wait for Part 2.
Macho Hogan Andre.... nothing will ever touch that era
Loved this!!! Can't wait for the next video.
This was so incredibly well done! Loved the parts about Vince systematically taking over the territories. Also never knew that his Monday nitro takeover was actually the second time doing a similar heist!! Him taking over the Georgia championship wrestling show was just the precursor!
Thank you cultaholic for the fascinating history lesson!
First time I ever saw wrestling was WWF Saturday nights main event. When Paul Mr Wonderful Orondorf joined the Heenan stable and turned on Hulk Hogan. I was hooked from then on.
Amazing work. Looking forward to the next installment on this series

Andre the Giant defeated Ken Patera
Moondog Spot defeated Rick McGraw
Brutus Beefcake defeated SD Jones
Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo defeated WWF Tag Team Champions the Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff
Now, I am not of fan of every one of your videoes - you do make ton. But this one was certainly worth the time of this 33 year long fan.
My guy, this is world class retelling! I'll be honest, I watched a lot of your content without subscribing, but you deserve it and much more. Love this video! Great work
Duuuude I had to stop this video 30 minutes in… I’m gonna wait to watch this GOLD when I get home! I’m totally intrigued by this doc!
80s were so awesome, I slayed it back then
This is an incredibly well produced and researched video. Thank you for taking the time and putting in the effort.
This is great stuff! Thank you for this, it really helps put a full picture together of the golden age (82-85) . This was just before my time so it sort of gives me a full picture of everything! Thanks again, onto Part 2 (85-87) .
I love that Cultaholic has taken this direction of these longform, well researched stories. They are always thorough, engaging and, as a fan of a certain vintage, the best wrestling content I've seen. If the quality and tone keeps to this level, this series may be your opus.
I need part 2 and hopefully it continues through the attitude era and onward
this is awesome, you choose the right presenter for it too
