I hope you all enjoyed this new format and my take on why Emerald Coast is the embodiment of Modern Sonic! Thanks for watching and let me know what level you think embodies Sonic and what his character is like (fr tell me cuz I read and respond to everyone)! Honestly this level is fun and fine but I don't think it's one of the best u can pretty much beat the entire stage by holding forward I honestly think wave ocean from sonic 06 ahem* Project 06 is better, not sonic 06 stand alone. I love the Mach speed section at the end of it

Yes, I must agree. When I first played SA1 about 1 month ago I was simply amazed with the game. Emerald Coast is a really good level for teaching new players how to control Sonic and for returning players trying to see how fast can they go. It really gives the vibe of freedom and exploring. It's also funny how many parallels are there between Sonic and Mario. Both first levels in SA1 and SM64 are meant for exploring (Emerald Coast - Bob-omb Battlefield) and the second ones take a more linear path (Windy Valley - Whomp's Fortress) (it's only one example but there are more).
I didn't think about the M64 comparison but thats really a good match! I recently played M64 for the first time with the 3D All-Stars collection on the switch and LOVED IT!! Galaxy is so awesome also

Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast will always be my fav Sonic game... I grew up loving the Mega Drive games but when I played Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast for Christmas of 1999... my mind was absolutely blown and I played it over and over and over again. It was just an amazing leap at the time and I will always love it
Yes!!! While Sonic Advance 3 funny enough was my first sonic game (and first video game ever) this past summer replaying the classic games gave me even more appreciation for the 3D games(which I love very dearly haha). Thanks for watching!!

I forgot about that!! I haven't personally played it but do plan on picking it up as I purchased a 2DSXL relatively recently...who knows 3DS generations may be getting its own video when the time comes 👀

Also you know I wasn't thinking about doing this but I after I thought about it I would be really interested to see the developmental side of that level and why they chose to scrap the Beta version. Great idea! I love Windy Valley too, so fun to speed run when doing those crazy skips in the sky!

Apparently the pirated copies of SADX on the PC were all bugged to only have the windy valley track play throughout the entire game, lol

For some reason whenever I think on Sonic the Hedgehog, Terminal Velocity and Eggmanland (Normal Sonic, not the werehog part) is what comes to mind, idk why
You must really like them! I've never really played Unleashed or Colors but Im really excited to try them once I get to them. I have a funny history with Unleashed, so when it came out I was around 8 and was so hyped a new sonic game was coming out I actually pre-ordered it from Gamestop and they gave this little Werehog figure as a bonus...well when the game came out I couldn't get past the first Werehog level and returned it😂 Obviously, that doesn't reflect my opinion on the game now as from the gameplay I've seen it looks absolutely stunning graphically and gameplay-wise (music is 10/10 also). I have Colors but haven't touched it in lieu for when I reach it on the channel but from the very little I've played (literally the first level) he controls SO GOOD at low speeds which is a common problem to me in the Boost games imo. I also own the DS version of colors which I heard is super good and plan to cover eventually :)
YAYYYY!! I love the sudden resurgence of sonic videos. It's like every six months or so Sonic sees a resurgence on youtube XD I like that tho cuz this is my favorite franchise and I could listen to ppl talk about it all day. Just keep at it and you'll see a lot of success on this site someday. Thanks so much for the kind words and feedback, I'm going to try and not to say "I guess" in my future videos, I never thought of it that way. I 100% agree with you though, 90% of my YT recommended is sonic videos or those gameplay channels like BlueVivacity, I just love this franchise so much
As crazy as it may sound, my favorite stage in the whole franchise would have to be Green Hill Zone, but that doesn’t include anything that’s based on it (like Emerald Hill). The reason being is that as far as I can remember, the first game I ever played was Sonic 91 on the Genesis itself. I wasn’t very good at it, and I rarely ever made it past the first Eggman boss, but to this day, I’m extremely nostalgic for Green Hill. I love how it was remade in Mania, and the SA2 and Generations versions are a lot of fun. Even though it took me years to really get into the franchise and appreciate it, Green Hill Zone has always defined what Sonic is for me.
Hey that is not crazy at all! Green Hill is a PHENOMEAL level, I mean there is a reason why its so iconic is there not? I really love Rooftop Run Act 1 from unleashed but Emerald Coast is one of the best levels and openings!

I would say:
3.- Emerald Coast
2.- Cool Edge
1.- Metal Harbor
You nailed every point that i love about Emerald Coast, that level just showed me that games can be more than just kid's toys, games can tell stories, create experiences
While i speedrun Emerald Coast, or trying to get a perfect run or exploring every corner i'm always enjoying the moment it's truly magical
It makes me happy to hear you could relate to where I was coming from with Emerald Coast its such a masterclass in level design imo. Metal Harbor is fantastic (you know its a good frickin level when Im A Ranking SA2 and I use MH and CE as "breaks" in between mech or treasure hunting sessions LOL) and I've never played Unleashed but I am PRAYING for a PC port this year. Game looks absolutely FANTASTIC! Also speaking of Cool Edge which imo has one of the best tracks in the franchise...I really recommend a official mashup SEGA did from the Sonic DJ Style "Party" album where they remixed Cool Edge Day and Ice Mountain from TSR (play them back to back) absolute banger!

Sonic fits really well in a beach setting, the blue sky & ocean, white sand, red flowers in Emerald Coast, and green palm trees all perfectly reflect his color scheme. Emerald Coast was the absolute perfect way to introduce Sonic in 3D. So welcome to my TED Talk on why opening a game with a boss battle is a fantastic idea but absolutely should not have been done in Sonic Adventure even if the Chaos 0 fight is really fuckin coo-

Emerald Coast is my favorite stage, along with Speed Highway and Casinopolis. And it DEFINITELY suits Sonic the best! However, my favorite incarnation of it is from Sonic Shuffle. It's my favorite game, too.

Well, the BIGGEST change is that it's all on a game board and not on a regular open stage lol but another change is that it's paired with a frozen aesthetic, as part of the island is encased in ice. The beach doesn't have any familiar set pieces (the beginning area, the loop, etc.) but overall it has that same beach aesthetic. Like, even without the title card, anyone who's played SA1 could tell that's supposed to be Emerald Coast if they focused hard enough (and restoring it to its former glory, completely devoid of ice, is SO satisfying!)...
In fact, since alot of Shuffle's assets were borrowed/ported from SA1 on the Dreamcast the next year, it's probably unchanged for the most past, other than being a different island location.
And if I'm honest, the theme for it in Shuffle - Blizzard of Coast - is just as much of a jam as Windy and Ripply, Azure Blue World, and Big Fishes At Emerald Coast. Though, if I am to be bold, on a scale from Azure Blue World to Big Fishes At Emerald Coast (personally I believe these two give off more of a beachy feeling than Windy and Ripply but that's just me), Blizzard of Coast breaks the scale past Big Fishes At Emerald Coast. It's SO immersive and really takes you there (let's put it this way- The only thing I see topping all three Emerald Coast tracks is the Tutorial tune from SA2... for some weird reason. Seriously, that's got such an island feel! So out of place!).

Even though I prefer city escape there's a reason said that everyone says the early 2000s they always started with beach levels
City Escape is a PHENOMENAL level! I’m currently A ranking SA2 and you know when a level is an 11/10 when I’ve been using city escape/metal harbor as a “break” in between mech stages and treasure hunting hahaha

Though there is one nit pick I have and it is a nit pick but would do so much for the presentation of this video if it were fixed, this being that the game audio seems to only play in the left side of my head set.
However despite this nit pick all the rest of the video had very good audio mixing both in terms of volume and keeping both sides of my head set playing basically the same stuff.
And lastly the actual content of the video, it's pretty good.

I agree! I didn’t know this but apparently it’s in the 3DS version but I wish they added it as an unlockable stage or something to standard Generations. If you haven’t listened to the generations mixes of Azure Blue World and Windy and Ripply I highly recommend it as they’re fantastic. Thanks for watching!

Okay yeah that's all cool but I prefer desolate destroyed and hazardous zones that cause a sense of action and seriousness- That drive you to move forward and give you a reason to get through the level.

the sonic levels (and also the tails version) in adventure 1 are great, every level is at least fun except casinopolis (sonic ver). one nitpick (i'm not sure if i write right) with SA2 is that the sonic and shadow stages feel more linear, i feel that there aren't many ways to make a shortcut
I agree! I dont think thats a fault to SA2 personally as although the design philosophies are different both are so well crafted level wise just in two completely different realms. Did you know that the level designers from SA1 and 2 are different which is why they dont feel similar at all. I found that out the other day and its kinda a cool fact! Hope you enjoyed the video!!

This might be controversial but I feel like Sonic adventrue aged better than Mario 64
I have played both to 100% completion this year and I agree, 64 is absolutely fantastic though don’t get me wrong
@@EldarinThe orignal Super mario 64 is really hard to get into the controls are slippery and the camera is hard to control. Whenever I want to play I have to play the DS version
The only things that have really aged about about mario 64 is the camera and some of the visuals. You can tell that they were trying to figure out how a camera works, and how some of the platforms have basic textures that don't fit the theme of the level.
But other than that, I don't think the is anything that I'd really change about the game if given the opportunity to. Some people might point to the slippery controls, but it's by design that they work like that. The controls are a bit hard to come to grips with, but are extremely satisfying and allow for a lot of control when you do master them.
I'd appreciate if you could elaborate on why you think mario 64 has aged. Most of what people say has aged tend to be things that they personally don't like, rather than actual flaws with the game.

I was really late to the curve and only got around to playing it last year when 3DAS released(forgive me if I'm a little hazy on some of the exact details) and I had an absolute blast...so much so I got all the stars and couldn't stop playing it nonstop LOL...don't get me wrong I'm not knocking the game as pretty much any game from that time has shown some aging qualities 20+ years now. The game is a masterclass and there is a reason why people still talk about it to this day. The graphical aspect doesn't bother me and I don't think I can complain about M64's graphics and enjoy SA1's facial animations haha, anyways my two biggest "aging" features of M64 was 1. the camera in some aspects especially on levels like Rainbow Road where for some of the later missions the camera would just go straight into the wall and I couldn't see anything and would die (was able to clear it by getting lucky with timing) along with the depth perception in some areas due to the different set camera angles caused some problems for me. Is this a BIG deal? no, not really and I would be a hypocrite to say M64's camera aged and SA1's didn't... as for my second problem was sometimes the controls were very slippery and I was fighting against Mario to not fall off at times due to "sliding" for lack of a better word after stopping movement. Some of the standout examples for this were TikTok Clock especially since there is a lot of balance beam areas and I would have to slightly push the left stick/stop/rinse repeat and it was frustrating at times watching Mario slowly slide off when my thumb wasn't on the thumbstick. I am in no way saying the game is awful or anything though as I had some of the most fun 100%ing it ever in a video game but like any game from the mid-1990s there are some aging problems..that just can't be avoided due to the time era. Hope this answers your question!

I feel like what ever level Sonic run’s on embodie’s him.
To me, the thing that need’s to make a level good is the control’s need’s to be responsive most of the time, level’s be spaciess (misspelling) enough for me to roam around.
That’s why I wasn’t liking most of the zone’s from the classic game’s (Sonic.T.H.1,2 and some of C.D).
Emerald Coast is good, even today I think it hold’s up imo.
It’s iconic to me through it being a beach, were it’s located and it being the 1st level in the game.

What do you mean, "every first level is always tropical themed"? Green and Emerald Hills are clearly grass themed (don't even get me started on Mushroom Hill)
Well personally I would consider Green Hill and Emerald Hill both island/tropical levels as they use a lot of tropical scenery with the palm trees etc etc. that’s just me though. Hope you enjoyed and thanks for watching!

@@Eldarin that's like saying boom sonic is modern sonic though, it makes no sense.
Modern sonic is the same character as Dreamcast sonic who is the same character as classic sonic (non-generations/mania time dimension crap)...boom sonic is in another continuity so yes it wouldn’t be the same character. Sonic Team references the Dreamcast era in the later games to prove the continuity, I would agree he is technically “younger” in the Dreamcast games but that doesn’t detract from the Dreamcast era games being apart of modern Sonics character

It’s a mod that lets you convert to Dreamcast texture and lighting on PC. You can also have DX models and DC lighting and textures which is what I do since I like the DX models better
