Heres a tip, you dont need a sledgehammer to secure a second story. Just block off the stairs with removed floor tiles, it works the same but is so much easier to fix if your sheet ropes go down. Leave a hammer, a nail, and a plank downstairs and just rebuild the tile should you need to. Much lower chance of getting locked out!
They should try and keep it realistic. Wooden fences Z’s can break, but it takes a bit of time, wire or chain link fences, they can only break if a big horde pushes on them, steel bar fences and military fences should take a very long time to be destroyed.
Love the base ideas, and on the fences thing I feel that fences like Wooden or Wired will last the shortest amount and Military fences will have the most durability but will be able to be destroyed so military areas might be sought after.
I think perhaps some fences could be made impossible to be destroyed within what a run or server duration between wipes, especially ones made on permanent structures such as Government or Military facilities that would need such fencing. The Penitentiary for example, doubt those double fence walls wouldn't have deep dug pillars, reinforced concrete base for stability plus wires made for lasting any kind of abuse without dedicated tools and time to use them. Same for that Military facility south of rosewood.
@@andrehashimoto8056 Yes I believe that too, maybe only specific Military fences can be broken, which will probably be the reason there is a hole in the Louisville border walls because a group of infected broke through it or an NPC rammed through it.
We will have to wait a little to see what types of buildings, player crafted items, and mods get introduced into build 42. But for right now, I think any type of 2-story building will be good
On Bases using existing structures: Bases with more than a ground floor will be at a premium. Same for structures that don't need to rely on fences to make for a easily defensible one. Multi story buildings that are close to one another in LV will also be sought after, building skybridges in there to make a connected web of paths that lead to anywhere will make for easier transit while also opening the way for FOBs or just safehouses if a Loot run went awry. Maybe once the more pressing in need of balancing or fixing parts of the game are done along more content, they will make things not so easy for such tactics. Isolated Cabins, and thus the Out of urban zones prepper survivor may become the safest bet when rewching the point of establishing a Self-Sustaining and secure base, areas near a lake or the River, totally out of the way so the chances of a Large zed horde are near 0. Built structures, once all the bugs and kinks of that part of PZ get solved (Or modders do it), exploity bases will be the faster, cheaper go to way of getting a fully secure base. But only once the pressing issues with that part get solved, currently there's a number of Bugs that just kills making a base yourself instead of relying on prebuilt structures for a base.
Hopefully, they do fix all the bugs, especially the one that considers you outdoors even though you've just walled off the area. And yeah, I agree, multi-story buildings will be the next meta in terms of base building.
But we don't know how long will it take modders to update their mods for b42. It might take a while for all your mods to be fully updated when b42 hits live. But generally that's a good strategy.
The zombies breaking walls by just knocking on it is really bothersome to me, since the beginning. Just think about it, yes a horde would ravage a fence by pushing on it, but the simple way to circumvent this is to place cars along the perimeter close to the fence but not directly against it to let one layer of zombies against the fence, deflate their tires and voilà, no more horde pushing the fence down. Mechanical advantage b*tches. Or simply dig deep trenches in front of it, add some spiked traps in front of the trenches to trap most of them, even some barbed wires and such. You can also totally make a path using several cars to channel zombie to a place, a pit with spike for example to dispose of them and deflect them from the fences. Or simply block the possibility for a horde to form itself toward you location by closing down portions of the city with cars. The devs sometimes adds weird mechanics to make it "realistic" or more likely harder for the player. But where are the warehouses with yards surrounded by concrete walls just like IRL? You could put hundreths or even thousandths of zombies and they wouldn't be able to put those walls down. It's not present because it would be easier on the player to build a reliable safezone.
In this game, having a yard surrounded by concrete walls would totally be too strong. Zombies would just get stuck, not knowing what to do. But hey, on the bright side, they're adding the ability to craft brick walls in Build 42. Sure, they might cost a bit, but those walls will be zombie-proof, so it's a bit of a trade-off.
@@bradShank yep, but provided that you don't give them any stimulus, the rope and the perimeter are most likely to be safe. In fact, I tested this theory by spawning a horde on the shore near one of these bases, and since the zombies couldn't find a path to reach me, they stood still rather than attacking the rope. That alone is a big advantage over fences, where zombies will attack the fence for sure to reach you.
@@bladiuss that's interesting, thanks for the testing 😀 by stimulus, do you mean getting near and attracting attention, or are there specific objects that actually lure zombies like when a filing cabinet for example is against a chain fence?
Sorry, man. We still don't have a confirmed date yet. But most information points out an unstable beta release this summer. So, hopefully, it won't be that long🤞
I hadn’t even though about secret bases in elevator Spaces. Thats a great idea!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
as someone who plays with zombies with insane long range hearing and night sprinters i am terrified. one noise at night and fences are going down
Long-range hearing + sprinters? I think you enjoy suffering 😅

100% agree
I just build a wall around a gas station. Not sure if I'm underthinking it or overthinking it.
You'll be fine, just don't let them grow in numbers outside your wall.

Tip: Stairs are indestructible, and if built in a line next to each other, provide two directions of z-proof "walls".
Thanks for the awesome tip 😎
I can't imagine gunshop fences will be destructable as it would make fire arms easy to obtain early on without a sledge. But who knows 🤷♂
Secret feature in build 42 the devs didn’t tell you about because they wanted it to be a surprise!…..Zombies can now climb ropes and ladders!! 😬😵🤣
dead in 3, 2, 1 ☠️🤣
Is this true? They shouldn't have the motor coordination for this.
So... What about the best base defences, with the best building, but without the cheese?

If you add the mod buildings then you can use those big blocks of cement like higher than the fence to make it a fence 😅 IDK but it works for me .

the best base is when:
the 1st floor has no stairs
I'll be in my RV if ya'll need me. The whole sheet rope thing is so overrated.

The entrance over the water is cool, but can't zombies pull down escape ropes, trapping you in your base?
That's why build a perimeter around the rope. That way, you don't lock out of your base.
@@bladiuss but the zombies could break down doors and furniture in the way 🤔😁

If you do not bring planks when you descend into the water you will die
Not really, you can climb the rope again without problems 😊
