    Why does everyone keep destroying their stairs, when you can just destroy the floor around the top; you can repair the floor easier than the stairs if you ever get stuck on the bottom.

    Pro-Tip: You can pick up and move Trash Dumpsters and place them outside in front of windows on the first floor. Depending on settings, they may or may not be destructible. I seem to remember them having the highest durability of furniture used as defense, and they double as storage/compost/trash-removal as you can put things (Zombie bodies, rotten food) in them.

    Huge waste of wood tbh, i would recommend forgetting about the first floor entirely or just securing the garage as the insane forests youll need to cut down for the full build is ludicrous, most of that space will be unused anyways, might aswel make sheet ropes in garage and some windows around 2nd floor and save yourself the lumberjack 9000 task :)

    • @Noughtical
      @Noughtical  Před rokem +12

      Yeah completely understand, In the video I did state that the outer perimeter wall was excessive. The amount of wood that would be needed to complete that wall would be a literal forest like you said. You have made some good points thought obviously and yeah I would do that right at the start but personally I do like rather big bases but that's just me. Also depends on the patience and time you have too :)

    • @christiandietz6341
      @christiandietz6341 Před rokem +7

      I prefer to build/fortify a rather small base-house. I dont need much space: a fridge, an oven and 1-2 ICE freezers, a single bed and some storage crates.
      If i make a small perimeter wall, i make sure the doors are in an earshot. That way i can hear them bashing the door. I prefer patrolling my safe bubble and kill the zombies i find instead of turtling, except at night while sleeping. Once cleared, an area it takes time to get re-populated with zombies. Usually x% of the initial number every y days passed, plus roamers.
      205 days in and doing ok so far. Scenic groove trailer park-> riverside -> west point, slowly making my way toward LuisVille.

    • @monikaanderson6755
      @monikaanderson6755 Před rokem +3

      Well put, that said if you really want that place secure with nearly no wood expendature, do as in video- sledge stairs, put sheet rope in place of the pole and then below in garage put a line of "wood fence-wood crate-wood fence" combo in a row so your sheet rope is blocked off from zombies and due to their pathing they wont get over it or break it, unless a random crawler decides to somehow not just spawn there but target that specific structure.
      Tho that is bit cheese, but then you need only 1 rope and wolla entire 2nd floor is clear and so is your way onto/off of it with barely any wood used :)
      You yourself can get over the barricade by run vaulting it, tho be carefull if obiese or heavy load can lead to injuries.

    • @Noughtical
      @Noughtical  Před rokem +1

    • @Noughtical

    This is great. I just started playing and figured the fire station would make a perfect first base, and the first video I find searching for "zombie proof base" is using it as the example lol
    The second floor is a nice living quarters, so knowing I can keep zombies from getting up entirely is perfect. I've been using the building for a few days, but about a week later there started being a lot more zombies around and while I was able to keep them out, they slowly overwhelmed and got into the garage... then the main hallways... then the second floor... 😭 mind you I didn't have much boarded up yet. My thought was "well I'll just lure/fight them outside or on the first floor and carry the bodies outside". Worked for a while but now the entire station looks like a slaughter house save the kitchen area, and their numbers grow outside each day lol..
    So, my new goal is to slowly take it back (somehow), board it up working my way outwards and clean up the place. I just hope there is enough bleach in Rosewood though haha. This is going o be a challenge since all my tools and materials are inside except for planks, so not sure how I'm going to rebuild and fight tons of zombies simultaneously.. Either way, let's see if I can do this. 🤞

      @Noughtical  Před rokem +3

      Ah sounds good! Goodluck with it! Also I’m sure you may have tried to do this already so how did it go!?

      @@Noughtical I'm sure you've experienced something similar and I wish my reply was something short like "Good, I have a couple layers of walls up, feel pretty safe now and I'm ready to go scavenge the main boulevard a bit more now". Nope lol.
      I ended up with 5 rope systems in different rooms, but the completion timing on that was kind of nuts. A helicopter had been flying around to the south for several minutes while I was finishing up the last two ropes. It was the first time a heli was around for more than like 10-20 seconds as well. It was just there somewhere south and finally flew over the station. So I walk out to check on it and hundreds of zombies are swarming in from the fields to the south and pouring over the fence. I'm not sure if that was a vanilla event or the expanded heli mod, but either way I had no idea there could be that many zombies in a single horde lmao. They saw me (as I stood there in awe for a few moments like an idiot) then I rushed back into the station.
      Barely managed to get some stuff up there and destroy the stairs as they started filling the hallways. Let's just say I was very happy to learn you can climb up ropes with no stamina left haha. In the end, I was stuck up there for a couple weeks until things finally got quiet. All fortifications apart from 2-3 surviving log walls outside were completely obliterated. Since then I've actually just left the entire downstairs open afraid it will just happen again lol. I have ton of rope on the second floor, and I put the tools and materials needed to build a couple set of stairs in the garage if I'm gone for an extended period of time and the ropes have been torn down. It's been a few weeks since then going into winter now, as it snowed for the first time, I'm running out of food now and that massive horde has taken over the entire neighbourhood to the north, dozens at every single intersection💀

    Yeah, bro, it's a bit unpractical. Maybe for late game safehouse, when you actually have decent skill, sledgehammer, saw, asstonn of nails and also at least temporary wiped all undead from decent distance around (because all that noise from dropped trees and construction work in general quickly attracts zeds like crazy). If you have all this checked you probably have 1000+ hours in this game, survived at least a year in game already and don't need any tutorials like this cause know better and more efficient ways to make a place safe..
    All of this doesn't sound like "basics", actual "basics" would be hauling nearby furniture to use it around weakpoints, probably something like TVs, microwaves (I believe they still undestrucktable) or other shit that can be picked up easily and quietly. Zeds (or you) can magically noclip through shit that's directly blocks tile near a weakpoint, so keep 1 tile empty as a buffer. I often use couch-chair thing (doesn't require any skills, silent to move, easily blocks most narrow paths in 2-nd floors near stairs. If you have a sledge already - just destroy floor tiles near stairs but keep them there: its easier to re-build floor than stairs.
