    Well made spear. I have really abused mine testing the strength of the spearhead and how long it would keep an edge after being thrown directly into a fallen tree. I now throw it into a foam or straw target to keep the blade sharper longer. More importantly the blade didn’t warp, chip or break. All I had to do was sharpen the edge again after about a month of throwing into wood. Since switching to straw and foam targets I only have to sharpen the blade every couple of months. Handle is a hardy plastic material with a metal piece handle that encases where you screw the two halves of the spear together. My only criticism would be the weight distribution, slightly too top heavy. However right out of the box I was accurate within 10 ft in under an hour of practice.

    I want a spear to go foraging with.
    Where I live, I have black bear, wolves and mountain lion. I need to find a good spear with a solid shaft that's got at least a 5'6" shaft length and a winged blade to stop the bear from just pushing down the shaft.
    Yes, animal attacks are rare. Rare doesn't mean they don't happen. I just want to make sure that an attack I can see coming doesn't happen to me.

    The spear has always ruled the battlefield. Even a novice spearman can give a master swordsman a hard time. I bought this spear for home defense and as a weapon to be used in a 'doomsday' scenario, after all my bullets are gone lol. I would choose a spear over any other melee weapon and so would most people who know what they're talking about.

      I completely agree, also a thrusting weapon like a spear is far easier to use indoors like in a corridor or hallway. swords and axes need to be swung which is slow and easier to see coming, but a thrust from a spear is extremely difficult to dodge or see coming.

    The shaft material, is fiberglass reinforced polypropylene, you arent going to break it, I promise you that. The spear head itself is a high carbon stainless steel, also good quality.

    I agree 100% about discharging a firearm in your home. I have several rifles, shotguns and handguns, but it would have to be a doomsday scenario before I would open fire in my home, or neighborhood. In a home defense situation, I would have a gun with me, but I would also have one of my edged weapons and I would try to use that first. Usually I would recommend a short sword over a spear in close quarters, but this spear is short enough to work.

    I really like this spear, M48 makes some outstanding weapons. If you break any of them it’s because you doing some crazy stuff. The spear and sword have two different purpose, and I’d have both. Look at the history of the way the Romans used their weapons back in the day. I own allot of M48. This is on my wish list. Great video thanks for sharing.

    If you're using the full length of the spear to stab someone, they're not going to be grabbing it or their fingers are gonna get cut off. Go for the torso if you're aiming to kill!

    • @saraupton7503
      @saraupton7503 Před 5 lety +1

      All the best swordfighters I've followed, say that you don't go for the center mass. Initially, you go for the hands or lower leg. However, the OP says he wants to use it for home defense, so you are correct, because in that situation, you aren't dueling an opponent, or part of a unit on a battlefield, you're fighting for your life. You want to put the intruder down as quickly as possible.

    Okay, I know I'm late to the party but...
    So, as someone who is deeply torn between swords and spears. I absolutely think Spears > Swords.
    Sorry guys, the sword is very cool, flashy, and takes an admirable level of skill to wield.
    But let's be honest here. The spear has better reach, has piercing, slashing, and blunt damaging capabilities, and can be thrown.
    You can not only fight, but hunt. That alone gives this tool so much value.
    My issues with this spear is that it doesn't really have "wings" or prongs on the side, the handle is pretty questionable (I'd rather have a metal shaft the length of it and be one continuous piece connected to the blade), and I'd like for it to at least have a metal butt on the end. Better than just some plastic poking you.
    Oh right! Another thing is, you have to think: spears are just bo staves with a sharp end. So if you learn just the basics with the bo staff, you'll be pretty set.
    Thanks for the vid NOBOX7

  • @DeliciousDeBlair
    @DeliciousDeBlair Před 6 lety +1

    Spears make an excellent close combat weapon. (~_^)-b
    Also they can be thrown if need be.
    Also you can put it to the neck to hold them until the police come, but yeah, some people will come back to visit you when they get out of prison.
    I agree this is indeed a better option.
    Should the handle prove too weak, you can always get a durable electrician's range pole and cut it length. Those fiberglass range poles are really strong and flexible, so if that handle seems inadequate... Fill the space with some billet aluminum or from some bar stock to make sure its a tight fit and carries the leverage further down the shaft to reduce the chances of breakage even under a large load.

    • @DeliciousDeBlair
      @DeliciousDeBlair Před 6 lety

      My experience with weapons show that personally I can perform better than opponents using a spear than with a sword because with applied skill and using the power of human balance and the mechanics, the spear moves better and delivers more effective force in more vital areas with greater speed.
      Perhaps it is aluminum fiber filled nylon?

    • @NOBOX7
      @NOBOX7  Před 6 lety

      Great input , and yes you are correct i love the fiber glass idea . Yes throwing is an option and people who see you with it instantly fear this prospect , even though i personal would never through a spear at the enemy unless several condition are available, to name a few , its my only hope , and if i have another spear and a shield , other wise one must ask at what point do i get impaled with my own spear . Obvious i know, just making conversation .

    • @DeliciousDeBlair
      @DeliciousDeBlair Před 6 lety

      One option is to have a lanyard on your spear so that once it reaches the end of its useful range [be that striking a target or missing it] you can rapidly reel it back in to your self.
      The idea would be to carry the roll of tether in your throwing hand with a cuff around your wrist or your waist [each has its pros and its cons] and the moment the spear is at its maximum effective distance [which you can determine by practice] it is immediately pulled back, preferably with enough force that it is airborne for much of that time, reducing the chances of an opponent obtaining control of it before it is back under your full control and ready for further employment.
      The test weight of your tether would have to be such that it was not a means for an opponent to drag you off your feet [as in it snaps], but if you have a Velcro or similar emergency quick release type mounting it will not offer that, although, yes, as you mentioned from the very start, it gives the enemy another weapon, should you fumble.
      All in all, I do not support the idea of hurling or throwing it, especially if one is as poor of an aim and weak of a thrower as my self!

    • @saraupton7503
      @saraupton7503 Před 5 lety

      Spears are the most effective, non-projectile firing weapons ever devised and they ruled battlefields for many centuries. However, they are very poor close quarter weapons lol. A gladius and buckler are much more effective at close quarters.

      @@NOBOX7it's fake and scripted. If they're wearing armor they can easily take one hit from the spear and grab it before finishing off the spearman. It's too practical, the spear has one advantage and many flaws, by using a sword once you get past the "reach" the spear wielder is fucked.
      " a sword cannot beat a spear"
      False, history also says otherwise. And the greatest on the battlefield were swordsman, not spearmen.
