The Nets are one of the most hopeless organizations in all of basketball today. Currently boasting one of the worst records in the NBA this year and a total lack of current talent and future prospects, the Nets have next to no hope of getting themselves out of this predicament in the short term future. The only way to truly understand why the Nets are in this situation is to trace these missteps back to the beginning. In this case, back to the early part of this decade, when the Nets were also in the league's gutter. Witness the great Bell curve that is the Mikhail Prokhorov-owned Nets.
NOTE: I tried a different approach with this video. I shot for more of a "cinematic narrative" style that is probably ridiculously over-the-top. Feel the tragedy and the triumph! Hope you enjoy, though.

The players we drafted with the Brooklyn picks are 2nd and 3rd year players for fucks sake. They're still developing. Brown and Tatum carried the Celtics to the ECF game 7. This past season with Hayward and Irving back created a log jam of start-worthy players that had to adjust to different roles and that's very difficult on such a talented team. They had another year to develop this season and I'm sure, likely returned to their starting roles, Brown and Tatum will take another big leap forward and become even more dynamic.

Sean Marks is turning the Nets around as we speak. He shipped off Thaddeus Young's big contract at the draft last year for a first rounder then drafted Caris Levert who's played well. He swung a deal in the second round for Isaiah Whitehead who has also played well. This season he moved Bogdanovic who will be out of his prime by the time Marks digs the team out of King's hole for a first round pick in a deep draft. And he wisely kept Lopez at the deadline and is sticking to his asking price for Lopez. He's doing good things (I'm not a Nets fan btw, I say that as an outside observer of the Nets). Mikhail needs to give him time.
Marks is still facing a steep uphill battle thanks to the sins of Billy King. The Nets could really use a Fultz or Ball in their lineup.

However, I think if Brooklyn manages to find a talent like Harry Giles III (before his injuries wrecked his time at Duke) that recovers nicely, similar to Skal Labissiere going from Kentucky to Sacramento (only hopefully without as much time spent in the D-League/G-League moving forward), they could be alright.
Marks has put them in good shape for this draft. They have two picks that will be in the 20's. In this draft plenty of talent will be available with those picks.

Let's just remember that Dwight Howard, *IN HIS PRIME*, wanted to go to Brooklyn. But for whatever reason, that was the one time King and Prokhorov DOESN'T offer their entire fortune. I mean, pfft, it's not like they needed a player the fans would recognize, amirite?
Seriously, imagine if Howard actually was traded to the Nets, and everything else was the same, even trading for the 3 Celtics. Do they win a title? Maybe not, but maybe Howard plays well enough to keep the team from giving up several high draft picks; maybe they actually get one or two of them. Hell, maybe they don't even make the trade, and they keep those picks, draft the players, and actually still contend.
Insult to injury, they eventually traded for him anyway... after he became a diva, and they cut him quicker than you can say Dwightmare.

Because they had cap space to sign at least one big star, and they were about to move to Brooklyn- part of the reason new arenas are built is the belief that a newer arena could entice big names to come to the team.
