How to nail a minor funk blues in two choruses, by Marc Russo. How effortles he hit those crazy altissimo's... 🤯 What's your favorite Marc Russo solo?
If you dig the solo, hit that like button and subscribe for much more to come 😏🎷
He had a pretty killer solo with the Tommy Igoe big band when they were live at Yoshi's. I think it was 2014
Oh yes! I know that one 👌
Marc's work on 'Prayer for El Salvador' on 'The Spin' album by the Yellow Jackets. Searing and soulful.
Love the complete album! Marc at his very best 🙌
The solo on Mercy Mercy with the Tommy Igoe Groove Conspiracy is awesome. This one with Kenny Loggins is pretty nice too ... especially the dialogue-ish part with Kenny czcams.com/video/Kbcro30GBtU/video.html I also like the old Yellowjackets tunes - the bad quality, lo-fi vibe vids on youtube :D And of course the straight up legendary performance with Huey Lewis and the Tower of Power horns czcams.com/video/kk9TFRmWCH0/video.html
Bro just ripped that high E!
Great transcription of this insane, which is quite an understatement, solo!!
Thanks! 🙌 Marc Russo really is one of a kind in this genre of solo's indeed!
Russo is a BEAST!!
By far one of my favorite alto players!
Marc Russo is absolutely ridiculous.
Hit those altissimos Marco!

Excelentissimo!
Oh yes Daehan, what a sound
I tried to learn this on tenor, my lips fell off! Love Marc Russo, really glad I got to see him live with the Doobies last November. Thanks for the transcription!
Marc & I grew up together in Nor. Cal. - his dad was my little league coach! Yea, we were very luck to have Marc in our HS jazz band. We loved going to competitions - 3 guesses who always won! We heard some amazing things he played as a junior & senior just in jazz band practice - AMAZING talent!
Heard this live just an hour ago here in Sydney. Oh boy - these are some great musicians. Even had Michael in the mix. Can't stop smiling. Great transcription BTW. Cheers - Dave
Coño Yuli! que bueno volver a verte sigues tocando muy bien. Bendiciones bro
I absolutely love this solo. Glad someone transcribed it. But now I have to transpose it down a half step. My altissimo is finally where I need it to be. Lots of long tone and bugle call exercises. Needed different fingerings but some in the pdf I downloaded didn’t help, but others did. Anyways thanks Mark for your musicianship.
Can't believe it's been so much time since you guys turned me onto this fantastic music with the previous transcription on this very same track. Cheers!
The Yellowjackets album "The Spin" is some superb composing and Marc Russo playing :D don't know what happened that caused him to leave the band, that's a huge pitty
Thank you for always transcribing amazing saxophone solos, I hope you also transcribe na latest Solo of Marc Russo, on Long Train Runnin @The Beacon Theatre 2018. God Bless.
Don’t know why but this song just gives me the creeps 😆 Love the doobie brothers and Marcs work with the Yellowjackets though!
Maybe cause it's in minor...? 😛😂 But indeed, his work with the Yellowjackets in the 80s was out of this world! By the way, checked some songs on your channel, sounds great man! 👌🔥
@@SharpElevenMusic Thanks!
I strongly believe that Russo would have a great solo career If someone wrote good music for him. He can play anything.
Like, the Yellowjackets... 😉 But yeah you're right. Don't know what happened that he left the Yellowjackets, but thos albums with him (how much I do like Mintzer), were absolute fire!
@@SharpElevenMusic I think he had just one solo album since then. Mintzer is also a beast but if I had to choose, Russo would be the one. Maybe because we both play the alto (even if the similarities stop right there)
In high school our director (Bob Soder) did write stuff that highlighted Marc while the rest of us "filled in the color". We ALWAYS won in band competitions.
Greating. It's possible for me have the pdf for this transcription?
🎷👍🏻😀
What a player, 1st came across his playing with Yellowjackets. Damn shame he chose to take a step back from the jazz world. He mentioned that he was not too crazy on practising, maybe that’s it! Such a naturally gifted musician though, love his playing👌
I was in the same HS jazz band with Marc for 3 years. We practiced every day - and we were usually blown away by the stuff he would do. It sounds funny, but after a while we kind of expected it! AMAZING talent
Qual o setup dele nesse solo? Alguém sabe? e quando ele tocava com Lionel Richie
Bob Mintzer is a heck of a player, but Marc Russo IS the Yellow Jackets to me!
It would be nice if you would credit me on this and some of the other solos you've posted, since I did them first and shared with you.
Anyone know how to get the pdf of that to practice on the go?
I joined the group, but do not see this transcription on the site. Please advise.
Played the same in Jr College.
Played in Jr HS and HS jazz band - PHHS (no longer there)
