On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8. - Hry

Mig-31 vs F-35 BVR
@@flyingcactus1953 F-35 would smoke it because of it's stealth, especially if it carried the AIM-120D
Hey GS, love your content. Just wanted to suggest a video of Su-30 MKI and Rafale Vs F-16 and JF-17. Or maybe just a Su-30 MKI Vs Rafale engagement.
Su-33 vs F-14, fleet defense scenario. Su-33 defending bomber, F-14 defending fleet. Preferable ocean.
But… which ocean? Atlantic? SCS? Pacific? Persian Gulf? So many oceans to choose from!
I joke. Great idea though. It complicates things that the Su-30SM doesn’t carry the R-37M like Su-35/Su-57 can and the best missile it can carry (in DCS) is the R-77M. Makes things a challenge at range for the Su-30! Hopefully GS will do this! I for one really enjoy the longer range engagements and wish we could get more of them.
bro knew what he wanted

How about su30 vs f18
more like su 30 vs f18... su 30 would be an overkill against f14
Great video, I like when BVR engagements go to the merge, really spices things up. Especially between two aircraft of such caliber.

@@bengranby3664 hell yeah, brother
Your vids convinced me and my friend to get back into dcs after years of failing to learn the original DCS A-10 back before it was even Dcs world, thanks for inspiring us!
I have fond memories of learning the KA-50 in Russian.
It’s really an amazing experience but it’s very time consuming to learn all the aspects of the aircraft and combat. I’m currently struggling to learn how to lock up missiles.
Ya bro, haven't played any sims since the days of Jane's f15e and longbow 2. Just bought a solid rig for a couple grand and working on flightsticks and track ir now. It's an expensive hobby especially the graphics card required but can't wait to get into dcs.
Wish I could a box to join you
Someone chilling on the ground had a greater radar signature than the Felon and the missile was coming in hot.
AMRAAM: I would just like to thank Growling Sidewinder for this epic colab opportunity, though things weren't going to go well when he dropped me on a house, and headbutted me into the side of a mountain, in the end I think we both proved we make a great team.
That was the spiciest fight I’ve ever seen. Good grief those missiles were close, great vid GS!
Yeah, I think this is the first video where LUCK is why GS won....
in fact I'm still wondering how it is possible that all the enemy missiles happen to be missing by 3 millimeters while the ones he shoots almost always hit.
that anti missile missile was insane, reminds me of airs-ts in vtol vr
*dont you dare give me ptsd*

@@Kazperh they still have their potential
Reminds me of Arjuna hitting enemy arrows shot at him by his own arrows in Mahabharata 😂
Both insane aircraft to watch. Wonderful engagements
Russia definitely makes some cool looking jets if only they could build more
Always a good day when Growling Sidewinder uploads an F-22 video…
Agreed 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
And su57
That moment Maverick realizes that f-22's aren't navy planes

Felon and Raptor are both sexy AF.
And then you have Fat Amy...
A real nail biter on each engagement in this video. These near peer fights seem to go either way based more on luck than skill - Fox 3 hitting the ground, Fox 3 hitting enemy's Fox 2. Enemy's Fox 2 going after flares, etc.
Yeah! Lets not forget the Russian fox 3 that slipped through a wormhole just before it hit growler in the face.
This is one of your craziest fight ever. So many close calls and crazy moments. Can't even tell who is gonna shoot down who at any moment. Even missiles were hitting each other and that is really rare even after years of watching your videos. I really enjoy those moments, keep up the good work.
This fight feels so much different than a lot of your others. Maybe it's the 5th Gen's ability to defeat the missiles or avoid lock. But it just seemed you both were pushing in harder than most of your BVR fights I've seen.
5th gen plot armor flying in clutch for the Raptor ;)
That part in the tacview where the missile hits the ground and damages your plane, I just imagined Maverick like “Why are you dead?”
Looool ya that’s great. Perfect fit. Cut to push-up scene.
Those missiles were coming basically through your cockpit, you were insanely lucky in every encounter. Once even your missile saved you and shot the enemy's. :D Nice fight as always.
I wonder how FCS made those missiles miss… not really detecting the enemy, faulty fuses, different fuse settings or too low of a signal to explode (not really detecting the enemy).
Yeah I was thinking this too, I'm no combat engineer but it seems like the missle's proxy fuse just isn't seeing the raptor? Seems like they spent all that effort trying to make the missiles see the raptor but forgetting to make the fuse see it
Yeah realistically all of those near misses should have proxy fused but I guess the developers of these mods thought differently
@@jacobbaumgardner3406 doesn't a Fox 3 missile have its own radar to gain a radar lock? I thought radar lock was only necessary for a Fox 1 to track
@@charlienash1050 uh I think it's actually a lot more complicated than that, but yeah each fox 3 has it's own form of radar, plus 2 other guidance systems that I don't know enough about
@@jacobbaumgardner3406 that's not how fox 3 works
Man, that was some intense fighting going on 💪
At the end of the day, it is still the pilot and maybe a bit of luck that determines the end of the fight. Well done by both of you.
The tension is almost unbearable! Thanks for the video.
I would like to see this scenario done at night. I think the USAF would use the F-22 to clear the skies at night.
@@Max_Da_G Kinda does for the F22, since it has no HMD. merge = dead, especially when the Felon has a nice big reticle highlighting your location for the pilot at all times
I think the Russian missiles need a buff. How can they lock, track and turn perfectly but not hit the target at the last moment? It's not just the F-22, I've seen it against other jets as well.
Both the r77 and AMRAAM used in this fight are mods so are the planes, and I don't think either of them are even supported in the most current version of DCS
I downloaded dcs because I've loved watching these fights. I really appreciate how well you can fly now. Just trying to learn the basics of the jet is hard enough, let alone the precision flying in these dogfights.
This video just shows the stealth capabilities of both aircraft. Notably, the F 22. It is interesting that the missiles missed the aircraft by inches. In my opinion, the reduced radar cross section of the F 22 and it's fifth gen engine design played a vital role in keeping GS alive. Honestly, I'm amazed to see this fight. Thank you GS for making this video and explaining it in tackview. Love the effort you put in your videos. Keep it up.
PS: Which Fox 3 coded missiles was the Su 57 using?
For your last question i think the R-77 Adder
@@ELITE-xn3sh Thanks
That was an intense fight between the Raptor and Felon. How about doing one, upgraded old school Mig 31foxhound with it's R37 long range missile vs F22 Raptor with it's Aim 9x/Aim 120 long range missile and some ground defenses on both sides. That would be interesting
I'd love to see a BVR match between the eurofighter's meteor and the f14's AIM-54
Babe wake up, growling sidewinder posted.
Would you consider an intercept between an F35 and an Su57? I'm curious how well the latter does in BVR
@@Irinananana the 35 can basically act as an AWACS itself lmao with all of its different sensors the 35 was built as a technology/datalink hub essentially, it's the command and control aircraft of the fighter world
@@Irinananana I said *basically* act as, you're looking into this way too hard as well as not reading very well, obviously it's no where near an actual AWACS
Intense battle, but it interesting to see the two best fighter aircrafts intercept each other in air superiority I just felt that the Felon would have had the advantage every time it gotten closer to the Raptor, but just a hunch lol.
I always love seeing these f-22 vs su57 videos their always entertaining to watch .
a couple of the sexiest aircraft out there.
Ty for uploading this. This is the fight we’ve wanted to see for awhile now
Bro, your videos are just so friggin awesome! I will never be able to fly one of these beautiful birds irl, and I just don't have the time and resources to commit to DCS but man, do I enjoy watching these videos!
Probably my favorite channel on CZcams right now.
Do a j-20 vs su-57 it'll be cool
THIS IS SICK🔥🔥🔥 The fight we could have seen in Top Gun Maverick. I hope theres more of these
Man I feel like your missiles constantly hitting that mountain provided enough entertainment for two videos. I can't be the only one who that amusing.
7:24 "The jig is up, the news is out, they finally found me"
Imagine being so stealthy missiles don't fuze on you but they will fuze on your missiles.
I had no idea AMMRAM armed right off the rail in regards to your shot into the ground. All in all a pretty straight up knife fight between those two.
43 seconds ago :0 I was actually recently thinking about rewatching some of the F-22 vs SU-57 videos but looks like I got a new one to watch now 😃
These types of battles are by far my favorite
3:17 That drawing on Felon looks kinda like F117.
I love that epic music when you show the replay. So good.
I need a guns only video now, and yes I know there’s older ones, but I love watching the Felon vs Raptor, and need more!!
Do more fights like these, the merge style is epic for straight dogfighting but the extra strategy of this is intriguing
It looks like turning into the missile to minimize your signature might be the best defensive tactic.
I wonder how the radar cross sections of missiles compare to the Su-57 and F-22.
Probably larger as the f-22 has an estimated rcs of a golf ball
The first production model of SU 57 has the RCS around 0.01m2 (as size of the human fist) so it slightly/improved its RCS by applying 30% RAM coating on it, but still it has no stealthily as the F22 or F35 which as the RCS around 0.005m2 (as the size of a pinball F35) and 0.0001m2 (as the size of a humming bird F22). But still SU 57 has upgrade 6 radar that may able to detect stealth planes at a close range with the help of L and X band which has more stronger EW and ECM jammer frequency (SU 57 has stronger frequency and slightly improved EW and ECM jamming system than the F22 but still the F22 has an advance EW system making slightly advantage for F22) that can jam the radar and radio signals from enemy aircraft. Even that SU 57 has 2 DIRCM that was made to dodge or outtake an infrared missile with or without using flare, then SU 57 has IRST aka OLS 50M with range of 100 range to detect the heat signature of stealth fighter and the degrees of radius around 90* and 180* is able to look on side ways and up ways to find the heat signature of enemy fighter. So yes the first production model of SU 57 is improves a lot, but still it needs to improve it.
1:45 i don’t know but the missile hitting the mountain right after launch made me laugh a little
Fantastic vid! This is one of the most exciting so far!
And the f22 reigns supreme….again.
HYYYYYYYPE
5th Gen fights on DCS are beyond entertaining. DCS at its best.
Damn that was a crazy fight! Well done both of you gents.
Wow - very close - very interesting. Good match-up. Thanks GS!
Geeze that was some lucky close calls there. Great vid as always!
That first round was crazy it was like a scene out of a movie!
I would suggest that you have your seat lowered. That way you wont have to duck so much,
Interesting that with all this advanced stealth technology you end up within visual range which makes BVR somewhat irrelevant.
Mmmm. Perfect stealth would mean using the Mk I eyeball, being unable to get a missile lock (truly perfect stealth would have a negligible heat signature as well), merging every time, and using guns. Technology may be driving air combat back into the early 1940s.
It's hardly irrelevant when it took good execution of BVR principles on both sides to arrive at that merge. If one side just sat there and looked out the window for the bandit they'd be dead
@@dsdy1205 I do get your point but I am sure you may have picked up on the fact there is all this technology led to a dog fight. which would have been seen at the Battle of Britain or MiG Alley.
@@bigblue6917 my problem with this statement is that i get the sense you're trying to imply that BVR technology is useless. But that's just categorically false. You NEED all the BVR tech to work to spec to arrive at the point where you can conduct your 1940s dogfight. Entering visual range is a failure mode for BVR strategy and tech, and it is a failure mode you can readily expect when you pit two similarly matched systems _against_ each other.
11:54 The reason is that the Felon was in a slightly nose-down attitude, decreasing its altitude, which the AMRAAM just blindly copies by holding a constant LOS (or, more correctly, minimizing the time derivative of the size of the angle along its LOS to the target).
It's similar to why you can 'drive' all Fox-3 missiles (in DCS) into (even completely flat) terrain, because ED either believes that missiles shouldn't have full 6-DOF IMU's, nor be able to measure or calculate their altitude via any other means (except for specific lofting logic, I guess?), or just doesn't want to implement some basic ground-avoidance logic.
Furthermore, since even the most advanced AAMs (in DCS) still use a variable-gain PN guidance law (which *only* uses LOS rate and closure velocity information, with range just acting to vary the gain), together with an attitude control system that is little more than a PID controller extended with simple linear filters, and a (very strangely implemented) Kalman state estimator.
This results in wasteful damped oscillations about the commanded attitude and is also why the AMRAAM does this weird endgame manuever where it will suddenly pull into the target, even if it has a good speed advantage and the target is flying straight and level. It doesn't even calculate the most efficient path to the most likely impact point (which would end in a straight line for a non-maneuvering target).
I would *love* to have missiles (or even just the ability to enable an option which allows us to use missile mods with custom guidance and control laws ) that only cache in their energy when they need to, that calculate an optimal flight altitude depending on the target's parameters and that don't *easily* run into the ground.
Even if the missile has to break lock and use up some energy to pop up, then start scanning around the predicted target direction to re-acquire the lock, which will obviously lower its Pk, that's still infinitely better than running into the ground miles away from the target.
damn dude that’s impressive, where’d u learn all this stuff?
@@johnclark6139 I had a bunch of control systems modules at uni, but the basics really aren't that difficult.
Start with any decent introductory textbook on linear, continuous time invariant control (think S-transform and the graphical Root Locus).
If maths *really* isn't your thing, you can still use the old graphical design techniques, but you will want to use something like Matlab and Simulink to do the System Identification and Verification for you.
Then you can simply adjust your control law and have Simulink calculate and visually show you the closed loop response.

pro tip for the f-15 avionics, gun mastermode is the best way to quickly lock targets visually, much less finnicky than vscan and a bigger scan area than bore

Love these type of engagements.
What a cool idea to “spice things up a bit.”
Can we get more Intercept like videos? They are so fun to watch! :)
So for the gobs I know about the raptor. It’s minimal for the felon. What does the felon have radar wise that is able to see the raptor so “well” or better than most from what it looks like at least
don't forget its from 10 miles or so away - stealth is only effective at longer distances
The su 57 has 6 radars on board
@@gypsyjoker30 Make that 2 after the sanctions lmao and one of them probably won't be working since it's made by drunk russians.

Su 57 has the most radars mounted on a plane in the world. Its EW is believed to be one of the best if not the best
When you have the frontal radar crossection of a fly, the tiny radar on their Fox-3 can't see shit.
So here's a video idea: Fight something with much longer range missiles than you, have something with a lot of amraams, and intentionally try to close in for the kill not by defending against his missiles but by shooting them all down. Figure out if that actually works well enough to use.
Sounds like suicide by AMRAAM to me
The MiG-31 video is like that
VERY INTERESTING! So a BVR fight between two 5th-generation fighters ends up as a WVR fight!!
Both Jets. "We meet again."
I have no desire in playing dcs but I sure do watch most of your videos. Keep up the good content
About damn time! Also, could you turn your radar off and get vectored by AWACS so you can stay as stealthy as possible until missle launch?
So crazy you had to get within 1 km of each other to be effective. I'm not a pilot but you could have been going too slow for the missile to gain lift on that one that pancaked on launch.
So glad your videos getting longer and longer
That was intense ! Nice fight 🔥
