    As a Houstonian I grew up as a Rockets fan during Olajuwon era, but the second team I respected the most is the Stockton/Malone’s Jazz team. I really wish they had won a championship. They were such a great team. I love John’s humility and hard work ethic.

    When I first met John Stockton at a local college game where he was cheering for his nephew playing against the Lewis Clark State Warriors I knew him as a 2nd cousin once removed that everyone in my family had previously met before me. I introduced myself and told him who my mom was whom he met a few times before. He then told me that aside from being my 2nd cousin once removed that he knew my Dad's sister and her husband who would visit his mom and Dad in spokane one week every summer as he was growing up and until the day she (my dad's sister) passed. He also told me that his grandmother and my grandmother from my mom's side were good friends growing up and he actually knew more about me and my family than I did about him outside of basketball. Such a cool and down to earth guy and I'm blown away that had I never met him He would have known who I was by name anyway. He is still very connected to many other closely related people I grew up with. Very small town down to earth kind of guy who is as humble and approachable as anyone I've ever met. He still sees and keeps tabs on people from both sides of my immediate family in Spokane volunteering for the local food bank and running basketball camps for kids and of course Spokane's (his current home and childhood home is in Spokane) annual 3 on 3 tournament each year and asks about me and my family when seeing our other mutual relatives there. Again, such an amazing and humble guy. Blows my mind. Also, His parents owned "Jack and Dan's Tavern" in Spokane valley from 1961 until 2006 when Jack retired. Still the best place to watch a Gonzaga game or Jazz game where you'll likely run into friends and family of John Stockton if not John himself, if you ever get the chance to visit.

      Greatest ever. Us utah jazz fans are so lucky to have had like 19 years of best point guard ever, most assists and steals, and best power forward ever, 2nd all time scoring.
      A black kid from the south, and a white kid from the northwest happened to team up in the middle. Salt lake city, utah. They represented us, tried for us. We loved them and they loved us.
      That's why they have statues outside our arena, and why we named the streets that intersect our arena are named after them.

      He had microfracture knee surgery at 35 just 6 weeks before the season started. This surgery ended the careers of so many great athletes, like Terrell Davis, Penny Hardaway, Chris Webber etc. He missed the first 18 games of that season, then played every single game for the next 6 years before retiring. The dude is literally Wolverine.

Have to say, the only times i really thought we might lose in the playoffs was Reggie's Pacers and the Stockton-Malone Jazz. Stockton averaged 13 points per gm
      However he didnt start till he was 25 so all them mins lost plus he played till he was 41 so played 5 years beyond his prime so if he was a starter from rookie and retired at 38 his average wudda been around 18-20 plus 50% shooting
      I rather Stockton shooting 50% 15 points than Iverson getting 35 points on 40% shooting

    I feel like John would've been one of those great military officers that was drafted as a teacher to WW2. Kinda like Tom Hanks on Saving Private Ryan but more real life like the hundreds & thousands that did it for real and the many that were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

    If Stockton had a fault as a basketball player, it was probably that he was a bit too unselfish. I remember in the finals against the Bulls and MJ, Stockton was taking over, wasn't missing a shot, and then he started passing to his teammates and it wound up costing them the game. I believe that they would of had a good chance of beating the Bulls, if Stockton had been looking to score more. Watch the games and judge for yourself. And the one year that they were in the finals, after Barkley had nearly broken Johns back, it was about 4 games into the finals before he was back in shape and playing like his old self.

      @jasongCLJ Před 2 lety

      Yes thats true .
      I started seeing that in about 1993 and it increased after that.
      Sometimes he should have continued scoring himself. (..and the Jazz fg% would have been even better o.o eventhough they normally lead the league in % already)
      That can be a hard line to define sometimes ..no matter the player.

      No it is Dick Bavetta's fault. He waived off Eisley 3 pointer in game 6 of 97-98 finals and let in Harper's 2 pointer . And did not give offensive foul against MJ when he pushed off Byron Russel.
