People say Ethan isn’t a good protagonist, and maybe that’s true, maybe he isn’t the best, but I’ll be damned if I let people say he’s the worst. After playing as him through 7 and 8, I can’t lie, I’m going to miss him.

I want Ethan to be alive. Well, so to speak, since I suppose he wasn't technically 'alive' for the entirety of both games. I just got so attached to this 'normal' guy who got dragged into this insanity and did his best to find and keep his family alive. It's honestly admirable that he did so well for himself. And it would just be neat if he managed to survive in some capacity, even as a 'hallucination' of sorts, his consciousness trapped in the megamycete that Rose can communicate with.
This always happens in video games man, I want ethan to be alive too, but I think the devs wanted ethan's saga to end, so they made him kind-of-dead. That's why "the father's story is now done"
In every damn game, the main character last till 1st or 2nd part of the game. That's it.

I think Ethan is a great character apart from his really stupid moments. I think he has a good character development etc BUT I feel like bringing him back to life after being blown to smithereens would be a bit too much. Even know it was explained for why he can regenerate so much, alot of the fans while playing through the game were a bit like "right...sure video game logic" so to do that again after so many injuries + deaths would be a bit ridiculous. I'm not sure though, It really depends on how they present his return in res9 (if that even happens) You can either present something really well or half ass it so, it just depends on presentation in the next upcoming game.
Honestly if Ethan saga ends have him retire let him at least live a peaceful life

He's Gordon Freeman with an actual (barely) personality. I love it. I always loved video game plots that use the main characters inherent invincibility and ridiculous power as a part of the plot as different factions use that to take each other on all the while being picked off one by one. It's so meta and honestly there's not a ton you can do with it but it does so much for the whole power fantasy and let's you both acknowledge it and run with it making you fell like a super hero

i honestly hope ethan comes back, i feel like the game following someone who started off as just an average guy who was thrown into all of this because of him trying to save his wife is such an enjoyable concept.
Here’s hoping that Ethan one day gets to meet Rosemarie and feel proud of her.
I figured since the consciousness is connected, the reason Rose feels so strongly about a man she never met, is cuz she has the memories of what Ethan went through to save her.

My theory is, this could just be Rose's first time hallucinating Ethan and simply ordered the driver to stop. Meaning, she can now able to communicate with her dead dad telepathically and could help throughout her adventure.
If she's hallucinating then he wouldn't look the way he does as when he does in the village there is no way she would remember that. Because Ethan's hand is decaying and missing 3 fingers. If she was hallucinating it would be based off pictures she's seen of him
@@n1imnotfaze580 Well if the consciousness thing with the megamycete works how I think it does, the hallucination might be based on how the consciousness was last "recorded" by the megamycete, which would've been Ethan as he was right before the explosion. That's my take on it for why he looks like he did at the end, but maybe they just used him as is just because that was the final state of his character model so who knows?
@Johnny Moon It was just my take on it bud, considering the hands still in the same state which the other person who first brought it up mentioned doesn't make sense since Rose wouldn't have seen him like that. Unless you're trying to say it's a still living Ethan, which we'll only know once we hear from Capcom

Now Ethan has 2 possibilities: he is pure consciousness in the my-seed’s storage or his body physically survived ie regenerated. I think the “evidence” points more to the latter though this is RE storytelling so logic isn’t exactly a given. There are 2 ideas. One, what makes more sense; the mega myseed surviving a point blank bomb in the epicenter of the explosion or Ethans mold body having just enough left from being farther away from the explosion to regenerate from? Now the former could be explained away if the myseed has a mycelium network that stretches underground for miles beyond the reach of the explosion but that Sentral heart thing seems pretty important so I think it’s more likely Ethan who was farther away form the epicenter survived in the flesh rather then the myseed which was point blank in the bomb. But again that could be explained away either way. However the second piece of evidence synergies more with Ethan in the flesh as well. When Ethan is in the myseed consciousness world on the brink of death or dead? He has both his hands where when he wakes up back to reality his hands are bandaged up and mutilated again. Ethan in the final shot has the bandaged hand not the intact hands. Unless the myseed conciousnous form of Ethan also would have bandaged hands (makes less sense to me but this is RE) and the evalin dream state was not from the myseed (even though Ethan learned of knowledge impossible/less likely for him to have learned form hallucinating or fever dreams, I am going to believe he is actually alive and the myseed is dead. Though could be retconned either way.
I mean, the imagery of the Megamycete is "the unborn" so I think the explosion was actually its birth. Rose is the only remaining "part" of it, so it's possible everything encoded into it is now basically haunting her, including Ethan. She goes to the empty grave to talk to him so it doesn't seem suspicious when she is literally talking to him.
I mean Ethan did tell Zoe that he keeps his promises at the end of the dlc for re7, he also promised he’d never abandon his family.....
Nothing mysterious about this, they didn’t pay Ethan his last check, so his zombie corps is just trying to get in touch with H.R.

Maybe Miranda isn't dead or they found out how to use a portion of the mutation of Miranda who can mimicry. So what they might do is that they are using his character model because they are going to have dlc of a continuation of this ending scene being the opening like he said.

So my theory is that its either A. Roze is just hallucinating or B. Roze powers are so great, that he can have a constant manifestation of her father at all times, visible to anyone close to her.
I really do hope that we see Ethan Winters in the next game, even if just briefly through the consciousness of the mold or something.
I took that as Ethan's consciousness or at least memories living inside Rose. Rose seems to care deeply for someone a normal baby wouldn't remember. If Rose has all the powers of the Megamycete, then she would have a lot of people's essence living in her including Ethan's.

@@Sitthipong26006 not exactly. Because Rose is pretty much a replica of Evelyn, she probably also ages at a faster rate. So the end cutscene is probably only around 10-15 years after the Ethan's death

It has to be Ethan. There must be a reason why they used his model and not just a generic figure despite the fact that you cant see him in the cutscene. If he can survive what he went through then it wouldn't surprise me if he could come back from being nuked. The Duke must have known he would do that because he would of had to of gotten out the village to avoid the blast.

Ethan is too good of a character to just cross out. He should be up the ranks with Chris, Leon and Jill. Especially since RE7 renewed a lot of interest back into the series like his goofy ability to reattach his hands and legs with the juice in the aftershave bottles.

Eveline isn’t alive... They explain the hive mind concept for the mold in the game. Miranda even says the megamycete holds people’s consciousness on record.

I got a feeling Ethan is alive but he's going to be different come either dlc or the next game. Like he may have evolved into something but is in control of himself, possibly out in the world hunting down anyone who is involved with the fungus and spores and that's what he's been doing during the time skip. But he's so deformed and mutated he can't bring himself to see Mia and Rose. They'll probably have him rearrange his name into Thane so no one will pick up on it, except maybe Chris who will keep it to himself.

There's an even earlier easter egg of Ethan being dead. If you get caught by Jack Baker sometimes he cuts your leg off and then Ethan effortlessly reattaches it with some "first aid liquid" even suprising himself that he could do it so easily.
if you read the files in the saltmine in re7 its clear as day ethan was infected.. you read the infected see and hear hallucinations.. just like the mia ghosts you see before the final boss. also when you hit young eve with the injection your hallucinations stop and shes instantly old.. You also hear eveline in your head '' STAY AWAY'' once at the boat house and more throughout the game

I really do hope Ethan is alive. He is just such a good character and with his personality he should be seen in the next game. I think it would be interesting if Rose took on the anti heroine approach to bring Ethan back. Maybe through the hallucinations, Ethan tries to talk his daughter out of walking down a dangerous path she'll regret. They've already established that the two have a deep connection (even though Rose grew up without him physically there). I'd be down with it.
Viruses in Resident evil is at the realm of being supernatural at this point. So it is plausible that Ethan might be able to be with Rose consciously considering they are related and Evelyn/Baker family talked to Ethan the same way.
My only issue is that Capcom has a bunch of explaining to do to reason why Bio weapon Viruses across the world haven’t been clamped and shut down by United Nations, the fact that the BSAA has now been doing their own experiments without government oversight or whistleblowers from the staff sounds like horseshit. World building is pretty much fucked.

I didn't really understand why they just pushed the events of 7 underneath a rug. Like, it's mentioned that it was covered up by a gas leak but...come on...I know us Louisianians are crazy but we're not THAT crazy. It would be questioned. Hell, we'd probably get a lead on all this before the Saints game starts. We'd even question why the Bakers were so hostile. (I have dumb issues with 7 on that part. The accents as an example.)

Exactly, Miranda and Eveline has proven that those who got infected are connected to one another, yes the Megamycete is gone but Rose still exists and has her mold power.
It could be said that Rose has become the second databank for Megamycete's record as the first and main got destroyed by Ethan. It make sense for Rose to tap into Ethan's consciousness, she might even be able to read his memory of horror in the village. That could explain why Rose grows up to respect him so much despite the last time she is with him was when she only 6 months.
@@TheOverlordEND Adding to how the Megamycete is basically just a huge flash drive, it's entirely possible to make an entirely new mold body and inject Ethan's whole memory, personality, and information into said mold body to effectively resurrect him. Though that would need Rose to fully tap into the magic mushroom's power, so the implication of that is still dubious, and even undesirable perhaps. Rose might go on an unholy crusade in the next game to awaken her full host power despite Ethan fighting so hard in RE8 to prevent Miranda from doing it in the first place. Would make a nice plot for the next game with Chris fighting an unknown enemy that would later be revealed to be Rose herself.
Honestly Ethan is able to withstand insane damage, he could be brought back. The big crime in re8 is hunk isn't in mercenary mode.

i get the feeling that village was implying that the megamycete was sentient the entire time and was using miranda to find a perfect body for it to inhabit, i wouldn't be surprised if bits of the mold that didn't get incinerated in the explosion took ethan's form to trick rose so it can get close to her and take over her body for it's own ends
The megamycete is not evil, its more like a commensalism organism, it does not think, it only lives through others, everyone infected with it have their own free will and they benefit from it (Eveline's mold was not a pure strain and twisted people's personalities).
1- Rose was dismembered and resurrected.
2- He probably fused with the mold thing.
3- The explosion was nothing like a nuclear blast that can turn everything around into dust, not as powerful to kill a thing capable of resurrecting people.
4- There’s no date of birth/death in his gravestone.
The levels of absurdity in this game is so high that Ethan being alive is relatively nothing..

I think Ethan isn’t done, either some dlc comes out and show him with like some mold powers climbing out of the pit, or He’s in Rose’s mind and is gonna be her conscious or instinct or something along the lines of when Rose is desperate she gets a clementine like thing where she’s in her home and Ethan sits in front of her and gives her one hell of a pep talk.
Honestly what I'm hoping for too, a total johnny silverhand kinda interaction where Ethan pops in at points and gives advice, though the clementine analogy is good too

The megamycete was killed, but Rose still clearly has powers because she threatened the guy picking her up with them... so... I would think that implies that either she is part mold and can manifest things herself, or there is mold somewhere that she can control. Otherwise, if her only ability was control over the mold, which is all we’ve been told about her, she’d have no powers at all if the mold was completely gone and would be a completely normal teenager, which she clearly isn’t.
When she confirmed that she knew she was like Ethan, I think it’s because she’s still connected to his consciousness through whatever mold is in her. So putting that together, if A. she is part mold and can manifest things herself, and B. she’s connected to Ethan’s consciousness, I’d find it completely believable that she could create a new body for Ethan’s consciousness to use and connect his consciousness to that body.
I honestly expected for something like this to happen when Ethan was holding her as a baby at the end, tbh. If she had such great powers even as a baby, I would think that her overwhelming positive regard for her father could have been enough to heal him if she touched him, even if she was an infant who didn’t know what she was doing. Would have believed that, too.

Duke has the Perfect/Crystal Mechanical Heart stored in his treasury, it came from the Soldats killed and sold by Ethan. Given that Miranda had completely tore down his heart, Duke can replace it with the P/CMH.
Also there's body of water below the bridge where he activated the detonator. so the chance of his body surviving the explosion is not that slim (By jumping off the bridge down to the water). Hence putting the P/CMH is still possible to work on him.
P/CMH is a half flesh half metal Heart with a Cadou Parasite inside. It can be obtained from the test subjects Soldats Eins and Soldat Panzer you encountered.
Having a Heart with a parasite cadou seems to fit one of the Duke's final words to Ethan.
"I'm afraid you can't return to your old world any longer, are you ready?"...
(The P/CMH could be already inside him when he faught Miranda and it was replaced by Duke during the first rescue)
Or maybe it was replaced during the second rescue after the explosion. IF! the second rescue was true.
Maybe rose being a teen is actually ethan’s dream and he wake up just a day after he blow the village up and have a conflict with the BSAA bioweapon after then end up meeting duke and then become RE duo

I love how this revelation explains stuff from re7. It explains why jack brings you to the table and then toys with you at the beginning, showing you how the regeneration goop works. It also means that the hallucinations of seeing the real bakers was actually them in the fungus
