I still can’t get over the fact that everything is rendered in real time now...I’m so used to cutscenes using different models and/videos...
Not to mention completely separate "sets" made specifically for a cutscene...
12 year old gamers be like: is this some kind of an old gamer joke I'm too millenial to understand?
I remember games on PS1 like Driver having rendered cutscenes thinking someday games will look this good and wondering what THOSE games cutscenes would look like. It’s nice that the graphics are so good now they don’t need to render the videos
Same here, technology has come a long way. I member those first few games to implement this like Uncharted and Dead Space, those games were ahead of their times.
@@andysmallz407 It's taken decades, but games are almost a generation or two away from looking completely photo realistic, and the coming 4k, 8k and 16k video formats coming out will make certain the details allowed to make it like that will happen.

Absolutely fucking optimized game confirmed. I had suspected, but this astounding.
Seriously, during cutscenes exactly only the shit that's on scene is animating, being illuminated and sometimes even EXISTING. Fantastic.
Is it though? The game has barely any elements to run. It’s not a very performance demanding game, so cutting corners is not really necessary here.
@@misaeltoral508 true, but also cutscenes use more detailed models and more precise shaders, idk how it's done in re2r, but over on mgsv:tpp the PS4 even lags during some scenes, like when Boss brings Quiet to the base. 8:25 Mr.X waiting infront of wall for hours to destroy Leon
Wow, this says a lot about developer's dedication - outstandingly done game. Good attention to details as well.
Re3 i think personally was rushed af the zombies don't react to objects nemesis doesn't really pursuit you like mr x and that just shows how much work was put into re2
@@senoumoukeita3114 It really wasn't though. RE3 remake is probably one of the most misrepresented games of all time, all you see is left and right "rushed" and "cut content" because it's a short game. Okay? So was the OG. They can't add content that wasn't there to start with. Capcom scrapped the originally planned RE3 and took a side project that was being worked on, and then turned _that_ into RE3 to hastily make their release date. As a result it wasn't very long compared to RE2 even back in the day.
Wow, the prison headcrush scene was like a movie. With the actor behind the wall waiting for his cue, and then smashing through a weakened part of the wall with the magic of SFX covering everything else. That's just stupendous development

You ah foo for that one😆
Sir, he’s dead. That’s illegal even if he’s dummy thicc.
8:42 that Leon hurt sound effect is really funny to me for some reason
Mr. X breaks through walls in Leon scenario, but is blocked by a locked door everywhere else. Game logic at it's finest.
He respects the concept of a locked door but hates walls. Simple as.
Think mr.x doesnt go into some rooms because he was programmed to avoid some rooms so certain people umbrella wants alive could hide from the carnage
@@Feasco That's my point. There's plenty of walls for Mr. X to break, if he hates them as you've put it. So he doesn't have to wait behind a locked door.
Goshtic ok so he hates certain walls and respects certain doors. Just let it be man
You guys arguing about a game sense lol, well if mr x breaks everywall and come in everydoor you wont have time to breathe and dies overtime lol especially when you try to get s+ on hardcore. Terust me you dont wanna die lol
Mr. X actually trying to hunt you down rather than _just_ teleporting into certain spots randomly is a very satisfying touch, I agree. It's also a bit jarring, but fascinating, how they handle the lighting for each shot during cutscenes.
6:42
When Mr X had enough with Leon and starting to turn on hacks to find Leon
Licker: *hears a random person step inside of the next room.*
My time has come.
It's really interesting that they actually had the character model for G1 run across up above you where you could see him. I expected there to be some sort of trickery there.
You can see his shadow so it makes sense to have his model there
Ah, that thing in Mr X's head is a Power Limiter. The reason he mutates in the last boss fight is because the facility explosion destroys it, so he is 'unleashed,' so to speak.
I thought that was what the trenchcoat was
The Dragonball clothing effect
I’m pretty sure the trench coat is the limiter and that device is how they give him orders. It would be weird if the device was the limiter as how exactly would it go about limiting? and yes I’m replying to you and not the guy above as it may seem lol.
@@CocoonsLastHope Not sure, as that is supposed to be invincible, hence why you have to shoot his face. Body shots do nothing. He no longer has the thing in his head in the final boss fight, and you'll notice the side that had that is half blown off, including his jaw. The skin is frayed, open, off to the side. You can kill him then, but he can also kill you much quicker.
It’s on his right and his right isn’t blown off, body shots don’t do nothing takes longer but he can go down with just body shots, the coats are bullet proof and explosion proof, although clearly not enough as like I said he can go down after quiet a fair bit of shooting. All the tyrants have the coats to prevent mutations it’s written in every wikia.
I have the PC version so I have the trainer which puts him down on one knee permanently so I got a good look at his “features” lol. Too bad I can’t freeze him when he’s in his super form so I could get a better look at him. I mean sure there’s the model viewer but there’s only so close that you can get.
Which is why I love these videos that can move the camera around and freeze it, get a good look at things, not sure how one would go about doing it themselves though, I think it requires a program of some sort.
Nope. His overcoat is the power limiter.

15:05 God... That face undulating in the mass of flesh.
dude this is so cool to like at and just thinking about MR X roaming the Halls even though it's not loaded in all the way makes me more scared of MR X
I didn't know about the areas not yet being loaded (Which now it makes sense when I think about it)
But after this piece of intel, I like to think that the AI is smart enough to go "The texture here is incomplete...Guess I'm getting colder." As he uses this to figure out your location.
Because there are times when he does leave but whenever a moment happens where he just circles the room that your in without knowing where you are exactly, it makes me feel like he knows WHICH room you're in but not which space of the room, Cause there are moments where I'm like "Please leave, you searched every inch of this place!" I can't help but feel like he's thinking "I swear this room has the least amount of lag...They're here and I KNOW it!"
conner3548 Where do you hide then if he’s searching the room?
Him teleporting explains why he catches up so fast.
i never considered that characters outside of view in cinematics outright disappear or are not animated during that time. Mind blown.
not all games does this, but the most optmized games to save resources does, gta v did this, but some games don't do this at alll
This game still amazes me. It seems like they took pride inn creating recreating this gem. So much attention to detail. Artful
Q: How Does characters Work Off Camera?
A: Suddenly appear
What happens if you shoot in the hallway somewhere while Mr X is looking for you and he's on the other side of the police station...? Does he teleport faster to you or does he just walk quickly to the room you're located in? Please test this
Jesus
This video is good enough lol
I want to know too. We now know that he still "functions" off camera, but up to just how much? Not necessarily a full video, even if it's just a reply or a pinned comment.
According to the devs his hearing is better the farther he is from you, so he will zero in one the place that the noise gets him to. But it seems certain floors/rooms work with each other, for example the main hall, he will get to 3F quickly because it's the same room.

So the part behind the prison cell, you have to admit they did not need to fully animate Mr. X there, they could've just had an arm but I find it so cool that so much effort and a lot of it unseen went into this game, the people who worked on it deserve major respect.
2:50 That is called "object pooling" (like having a pool filled with game objects) which consist in having all heavy models (game objects with animations, quests, triggers, even particles Fx's or alike) loaded into the level to avoid instantiate them in real time, because instantiate (loading them into the level) this kinda of game objects, have a huge impact on cpu and gpu, causing game to crash.
And no, that isn't a T pose. That is an A pose (Anette for example). T pose is when the models have, well, a T pose (is not a good practice using a T pose to modelate real like characters, when weight painting them you end with very clunky/weird/unrealistic moves from the arms and chest)
This is so impressive. Hats off to the team who worked on this game.
Great video. So cool Mr. X is really searching when you hear the footfalls.
4:55 “Well I guess the deals on 🅰️”
This was amazing. If you haven't already done a series of these you better be working on it! Seeing everything as a passive camera is so interesting and different, I'm kinda lost for words but I loved it!
I love watching this kind of videos to learn about how developers chose to move certain models or just to see how something happened. It also makes me kinda “proud” to see how much effort they put on the camera and lighting direction, they even did a “live action” set for the flashback cinematic and put an old filter on it, that’s so cool and smart! This is not only making a videogame but kinda making a movie (and i know this is not the only game that has this but yea, its so cool!)
When you go to turn off your monitor but accidentally turn off the entire room
I love how they incorporated Tyrant in the remake. It adds a whole new level of suspense with him pursuing you throughout such a large portion of the game. Kudos to Capcom for yet another fantastic game!
10:26 the shot of mr x appearing with a vine boom had me dying
The way it loads/unloads scenery, moves characters around and changes lighting effects on the fly depending on where the camera is looking at in the cutscene is spectacular.
An amazing display of optimization.
Some of this stuff was really cool. You seem very passionate about the technical aspects of video game scene making. Makes your viewers passionate too!
Games really are art. I find these little tricks and design shortcuts so fascinating lol
Every so often i come back to re watch these type of videos amazing! How he is actually searching for you when most of us just thought it was sound effects the re series continues to amaze me!
It would make sense for Mr X to wander around offscreen for you to hear his footsteps, it lets the game play sounds where he actually is rather than just randomly playing sounds around the building. This could cause a random sound to play on your left when he is actually on your right. There's also no point making another AI for the sound alone, to "simulate" him wandering, so Mr X doesn't need to render as there is already the AI of Mr X himself. Also the AI itself is rather simple and isn't really that taxing on the engine at all. Using Mr X and not culling/unloading him offscreen makes the audio of him roaming sound more realistic and makes life easier for the developers.
This is just my assumption from my time in game development.
I should really start a podcast explaining how things work in games and the reasons for some things being the way they are. I'm no god at it but I can explain why and how most things are done. lul.
Incredibly rude. He was just giving his opinion.
