Watch Neil Gaiman himself talking about the past and future of Sandman as he - and we - get ready for Sandman Overture.
We need a great Sandman movie!
Can not wait for this to come out. So happy Neil Gaiman is back on this and J.H. Williams artwork is going to really put this over the top.
Leandro Ramos Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been meeting with neil gaiman to get a script together for a sandman movie. Gordon is confirmed for producing and is also rumored to star as Morpheus and direct the film as well.
'I'm a writer of... things.' Multi-award winning author right there!
He REALLY looks like Morpheus in this interview. It's made very obvious with that picture right next to him.
Neg Ative Well film is subjective as well.
Yes.
Sandman Overture singlehandedly changed how I read comics. I was reading them but I was really bored with everything that was coming out and was considering stopping reading them. I didn;t care to read Overture when I heard about it but I saw it in the shop and bought it on a whim. After that, I was hooked. I went and bought a bunch of the TPBs and it got me into Vertigo books and other independent books which is primarily what I read now, all thanks to Sandman: Overture. Thank you Neil Gaiman.
Hi, I’m 6 years too late but now’s a good time then ever. The Sandman is coming to Netflix very soon and I wanted to start reading the graphic novel from Vol.1 to 10. So my question is, is Sandman Overture really worth my time after the 10 volumes?
Thank you and are you excited for the Sandman show? Have a great day 😊
@@jaytender4949 if you like sandman. Then you should at least give overtune a try but that’s just what I think
Read original novels first then the overture. @@jaytender4949
There is really no better writer in modern times! I have never read another writer as diverse or as educated and I have been reading comix since I was a kid! The first thing I read of substance was the Tao when I was about 8 in 1974. My father was a huge influence on me as a child and my reading habits were strongly influenced by him. He passed this year. Nothing could be a better tribute to what my father taught me than to have a new episode in the "Endless"! Thanks Neil - it matters to ME!
I never get tired of watching his old interviews over and over as I'm reading his books...
He looks alot like Morpheus.
maybe he is Morpheus, who knows
Technically he is
I think in overture says somewhere that the character look is inspired by him. I've seen this but I don't remember where exactly
Morpheus look is inspired partially by author himself and partially by the lead singer of the group Bauhaus Peter Murphy. I could've forgot somebody.
I think the combination of Neil Gaiman and JH Williams III was one of those team ups I'd always prayed for.
Now that Sandman Overture has concluded, I'm so glad they did.
+Yamibakeru hello there do you think i should read Overture or Nocturnes and preludes ? i m really interested in the story and the art behind it but i m confused by the number on editions !
+marwa dg Definitely Nocturnes. In fact, read the whole series first, as Overture has a lot more impact if you've already done so.
sandman is such a special dark comic that I can´t imagine making it into a movie.... its one of those intimate pieces you cling to and imagine in your own way....
"My name is Neil Gaiman, and I am a writer of...things"
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
It was such a pleasure reading Overture..😁👍
"It's very... very... strange".
Holy sweet Odin. Can you even begin to fathom what NEIL GAIMAN thinks "strange"? Damn... This will be SO GOOD @_@
I loved it, for some reason I was a little unsure if Sandman: Overture would measure up to Neil's previous Sandman series and I was somehow afraid that this might be something on the scale of 'Before Watchmen', (stupid me) :-P
Thankfully that wasn't the case at all, Gaiman & Williams have given us a beautiful opening and I can't wait until issue #2.
It's hard to believe it's been 25 years since that day i first saw Sandman #1 in my local comicbook shop,
Neil should keep not caring what people think, it works well for him
And comic book editors are all "We can't have our characters marry because it'll alienate our audience."
This man right here proved them wrong and is still proving them wrong.
This is so fucking awesome, I can hardly believe it. A whole year of new Sandman. And the art looks fantastic... and it's Neil Gaiman's Sandman!
Issue 6 this Wednesday, hell yea!!!!!
Oh I'm a few issues behind! It's been hard to keep up these last few years with its sporadic schedule! I hope it's more coherent once it's all together. I'll need to reread the previous issues as it's been several months between each installment
sooooo, the artists are just going to draw Dream in whatever Neil's current haircut is, aren't they? lol
not that I'm complaining..
Gaiman is fantastic! I Need to pick this up. I would LOVE to see Williams illustrate justice league dark too - that would be a dream come true
In case you missed it, 25 years is huge!
As if Neil Gaiman has ever NOT lived up to expectations...
And two years later, the 6 issue story isn't done.
Patience sir. Masterpieces do not conform to a schedule. We've waited nearly twenty years. A few months more wont matter in the scheme of things
The magic that is Gaiman!
Sandman:Season of Mists. Greatest story ever!!!!
Neil is GOAT
Always liked him. Truly a CLASS author
Neil seems like a very cool guy
Thank You, Messieurs Gaiman and Williams--October can't get here soon enough!
Please dont screw up Sandman by making it a movie. Its a really bad idea.
Definitely not a movie. It could never capture it in all its glory. I believe the maybe. Maybe a TV show could do it, but it'd have to be spread out and not rushed
All we can do is hope for the best and Neil Gaiman is involved.
drvannostran Gaiman is involved with the film and it's being written by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The great thing about JGL is that he is taking his time with the film rather than just slapping a release date for the sake of a release date, also the film will be released under "New Line Cinemas" meaning that it will more than likely hit a hard R-rating.
I don't know I've got a bad feeling about the whole thing... Ugh JGL.
Thanks for the bad news...
drvannostran I can understand where you're coming from man. I'd say before getting all melancholy...wait for the first trailer. JGL while only 1 feature-length film under his belt, it was still a well written film considering the topic. So at least wait for the first trailer, who know it could be good.
Loved this comic so much I read it twice!
this makes me so happy
What an awesome man
It just goes to show that even a brilliant author occasionally... eventually... runs out of words.
with all the news in Comic-Con this is the one i am most excited!!!!! god!!!!
Awesome. Not sure if 100s of millions of people care, but I do and it is great to know that you still do, too.
I had no idea he was writing new Sandman. I guess it wasn't that hard to keep a secret Neil! Thanks for writing again, I gotta get it!
So it's six chapters? Awesome!
I need to backtrack and read the first issues. This is an intriguing character.
big fan neil keep up the good work. i believe in what you write and just write like the story is just for you again because you have great taste.
He looks like the cover.
you must!!!! :D Sandman is the shit!!! I was so addicted after I read the first issue!!!
damn I think I'll just wait till it's all out, I will go absolutely insane waiting 2 months for each issue.
Just started reading Sandman, loving it so far
Better late than never! I read from issue 13 on and it's truly the one comic I would take with me to the proverbial desert island. If you don't mind me asking, how did you manage to miss it all these years? How did you come upon it at last?
I found my issue 13 in the stack of magazines my Studio Art IV teacher kept in the back of the studio for inspiration. I swiped it and replaced it with an old magazine my mother gave me (I can't abide thievery). I've been hooked ever since that night
October can't come soon enough!!!
LOVED them
I'm so happy!
*arms flailing* I can't!!!! XDDDDD I'm so excited!!!!!! I first heard about the Sandman series in 2003 when it was re-issued. But I didn't get to read it until I was 16. Ever since I've loved this dude!!!! Then I read Anasi boys!!! :D AHHHH I'm sooooo happpy!!!! He's gonna blow our minds!!!
Overture is coming, huh? Now another reason that I need to catch up on reading the original series.
So excited
It is just a story. Beware. Story is never JUST a story. But you knew that.
I was wondering whether he had picked elements from E.T.A. Hoffmann's Gothic Horror story "Sandman" and transformed it to his own version.
I. Can't. Wait.
Sounds good to me. I'll certainly check it out.
The goat.
Cant wait!
The gangsters of comics ^_^
This made my day :)
I am so sad really right now, because I now about Sandman just today 5/16/2014 that is really unfair. I have to buy all his books.
❤
Has he ever explained why he decided to kill Morpheous?
+stephen connell FEELS DONT SPEAK OF THAT AGAIN PLEASEEE
Lazar Knezevic Don't speak of what again?
stephen connell His death I cried when he died and I dont like Daniel as Dream
Lazar Knezevic Ok
+stephen connell Yes. That was the story he wanted to tell. He knew that was the ending from the start. "The Lord of Dreams learns that one must change or die, and makes his decision." That was the story in a nutshell, per Neil.
I'm working on becomes graphic novel, comic book artist :D
I've been cutting off buying DC books across the board mainly because of 'The New 52' (except for Animal Man & Batwoman) 'Before Watchmen' and DC's treatment of Chris Roberson among other reasons.
But with Gaiman & Williams bringing us a new Sandman arc? I just can't pass that up. Looking forward to October.
Death it's the coolest
i dunno man i used to be a huge neil gaiman fan in fact i used to go to all his signings and had all my sandman books signed. but i feel like all the stuff he pumps out is the same these past few years
Why isn't this a movie yet?
Be careful what you wish for, You just might get it. :-(
Google ' The Sandman movie'
Why the frowny face? Isn't that good? Depending on the director this could be one of the greatest movies of all time! Also the quality of CGI they use....and actors lol
Edwin Hernandez The frowny face is because I kind of doubt that Sandman could work all that well as a feature film, What works beautifully on the printed page may not work all that well on film.
Not every comic book that been made could work as a live action movie, Two different mediums you know,
and I question whether or not something on the scale of Neil Gaiman's Sandman really could.
(besides if we have to have a movie I'd kind of rather see an animated Sandman film just myself)
Also unless Gaiman has a direct hand in this movie I kind of doubt it could work without his involvement in one way or another.
And just myself I think Sandman might possibly translate to television better than as a big screen movie
for character development maybe as an HBO or AMC series.
Wait so do i buy Overture before the absolute edition ? I'm just starting on these comics
Jordano Diaz it is advised by many people and neil himself that you should read the entirety of sandman first and then overture. It makes you appreciate overture a lot more this way
Doyle Bogers thank you
O cabelo do sand n ta mais grandão doido , eu gostava :,(
+Gabriela Queiroz oi
+Gabriela Queiroz Eu tbm achava melhor, agr ta "comportado dms" ...
my mom does the same thing lol
!!!!!!!
Daddy
his that illegal
Sandman vs The Spectre.
+Kingssoldier well, considering the fact that the endless are such higher tier beings that even when everyone and everything gets rebooted around them and changed (including the specter) the endless are unaffected by the event that would reboot them. plus dream's sister is THE personification of death where as all these other death like beings like nekron are nowhere near as powerful as her.
+thebiggeridiot they are retconning the Endless in Rebirth in May. They're more towards like 8-9 in the top 10. Not nearly as powerful
are you hiring?
He's the worst interviewee...
he's lost his edge as a writer
CountSmokeula Welp, Overture sure proved that wrong
