How awesome to live in 2012 and have the opportunity to view and listen to one of the best authors of our time. And in my own home, in the southwestern U.S., pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Yet, here speaks Neil Gaiman. I am well-pleased.
In the fore/afterword for one of the volumes, Gaiman said that he'd always knew how to end it. In Wikipedia article for "The Sandman (Vertigo)" Gaiman's contract says that "the series would end when he leaves it". It also says he "had a finite run in mind for the series." During a conversation with Audrey Niffenegger at Chicago Public Library, when asked how long before the end did Gaiman know the ending, he said that he always knew how it would end, but not how long it would take to get there.
This is amazing news, so wonderful. I cannot wait to have this in my hands and never let it go. But... does anyone else think Neil Gaiman sounds really sad in this video? I mean when he said he felt he nearly "failed" by not telling that story yet. I mean I almost cried when he said that he seemed so sad. Or is it just me?
J.H. Williams III is a the artist that should have drawn The Sandman, but didn’t cause cause he was born the wrong time, when his art hit epic level The Sandman had ended years past but now this is about to be corrected. Greatest news ever!
I am so excited lol he kinda sounded like he was about ready cry of joy a little bit,I would to. The Sandman is his child and like any parent you can't let go of it:) This is such an important comic to me and I always felt there was something missing after it ended, this may be it. Neil you are awesome and you are my favorite author:)
Ooh, my skin just went all tingly listening to that. SDCC is better than christmas, even if I never actually go there, there's always some awesome news. First the new jem line and now this. Squee!
OH.MY.GODS. This is something I would never ever thought to see again in all my fucking life. A new Sandman story. Who really cares about if is before or after anything in the Sandman timeline. Thanks Neil!!!
I agree, even if Neil knew how the story ends, Morpheus has been around for eons and there's no reason not to tell earlier stories. After all, we knew how Star Wars end and yet we kept coming back for more and more prequels :)
Actually it was originally going to be an ongoing series but he saw a good opportunity to end it so he did. Regardless the prequel will be good because Neil Gaiman is a god.
It's my birthday today and it's being a little shitty and now I feel ever so much fuckin' better. Gaiman's stories have cheered me up through a lot of dark crap over my life and it's terrific to look forward to new Sandman material. Fuck. Yes.
Actually, I think he was trying to tell this story since about 5 years ago in the 20th aniversary, but things didn't go that well with DC so... he is finally publishing it : )
Definitely good news but I wish he would write more stories in the "neverwhere" universe. He had talked about a book about Serpentine and the Seven Sisters
When the first Sandman hit the stand, Gaiman told the press that he already know how it would end. He just need to fill in the middle. And he did it spectacularly. So why can't we trust him to insert another story? People come up with new ideas all the time. For all we know, this story has been eating at him. And he has finally finished writing it in his head. He just need to put pen to paper. This is not the beginning to the Sandman we know. This is another story with the same characters.
Hey, budy, you may like to watch this video:"Exclusive Interview: Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman" (just google it, and it will be the first link that appears). it's an interview Neil did a few days after he announced the unreleased Sandman edition. Amanda is interviewed too, but you can watch it all the way, because Neil speaks again at the end.
except i have hope in gaiman that this story won't ruin it. the impression i got wasn't as if he was gluing on an extra bit to a fantastic sculpture, more that there was one part of it unfinished that he hadn't felt right about until now. there's still mysteries surrounding it, but in this small way, it would be a bit more complete, in my opinion.
One exec at Warner Brothers says "ehhhh, what's a Sandman? It sounds brand new! I wonder if we can make a summer flick about it? I wonder if Leo DiCaprio might be available. Oooooo. That would sizzle!". The second execs returns, "Wasn't there a Sandman in the third Spiderman movie? I'm confused."
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU Neil Gaiman, you bring dreams to a hopeless, artless world. LOVE YOU!!

I like how it says "Neil Gaiman - Writer". That's like saying "WIlliam Shakespeare - Poet", "Neil Armstrong - Astronaut", or "Bob Dylan - Musician".
This is wonderful! The man is back at telling a Sandman story! So thrilled I wish I could hug and kiss him right now.
So happy to see I am not alone, crying happy tears...Looks like Sandman goes very dear to our hearts. More than I expected. ;-)

I remember hearing about ideas for this story since long ago, I am quite happy to hear this news :D
I'm new to Sandman and I just read "Doll House" yesterday and now this pops out.
Awesome timing. Can't wait!

OH.MY.GODS.

I agree, even if Neil knew how the story ends, Morpheus has been around for eons and there's no reason not to tell earlier stories. After all, we knew how Star Wars end and yet we kept coming back for more and more prequels :)
Fantastic news! Off to reread all my Sandman comics.
The beauty of the Sandman, is that the Sandman is... endless.
Thank you, Neil. Thank you so much!

I want Neil Gaiman to narrate my life, please. It would be so much more fantastic, even the icky stuff.
So basically Neil Gaiman is doing his 'Before Sandman' - Great Stuff !!
I almost burst into tears.
When I finished reading the Sandman comics I felt as though the story had taken residence in my heart and then left. I'm so glad there will be more!
So excited!

Hall H is not the whole convention center, you can have a very enjoyable experience at comic con without attending any event there.
So what you're saying is: You're bringing awesome back.
Happy birthday to me!!!
Also, so... dreamy....
Best news out of Comic-Con!!
This is the best news ever!

O @neilhimself voltar a escrever Sandman é legal e tal, mas ter o J.H. Williams III desenhando, isso sim é empolgante.

The Gaiman calender beats out the Mayan calender everytime.
Morpheus returns! :-) I've got to survive this Mayan calendar thing...
I CAN'T HOLD ALL THE FEELS.

Nice!
AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
This is going to be so bad ass.
. . . you know how long it takes to put a really good graphic novel together, right? Longer than Kickstarter has existed so far.
ALL YEAR
holy crap. YES!
The image used at the end better not be the cover; we all know that the cover for this comic has to be done by Dave McKean ;)
Oh, ho baby....
Dear Alan Moore, do you see now how it's supposed to be done?!
I watch "The Guild." So I only screamed for a few minutes.
@daftshadow This! A thousand times this!
Sounds way better when he reads it
Please make Dave Mckean do all the covers
it is as if the galaxy has decided to grant planet Earth one great wish
Not to mention that the original Star Wars were barely even his child. He only directed Episode IV.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Hooray!
Oh hell yeah
Unbelievable!
I would rock at comic con 2012 I have the best suit
Holy shit...holy shit.... !!!!
So, with Williams drawing, we wll get it somewhere around 2020?
those who disliked this video would be granted eternal waking by Morpheus/ Daniel
can't wait for Sandman's new stories
The view counter is bugged. It's up to 616 likes and still only has 313 views.
I have to remember to breath...
Oh shit yes!
