On the 25th August 2007, Sevilla hosted Getafe in the opening game of the 2007-08 La Liga season. After chasing back towards his own goal in the first-half, Puerta sank to his haunches, and then collapsed.
But Puerta seemed to be okay. With the help of medical staff, he was helped to his feet and able to walk gingerly from the field. Sevilla won the game 4-1 but, unbeknownst to those on the pitch, Puerta collapsed again in the dressing room.
He would spend 36 hours in a medically induced coma but, on 28 August 2007, at 1.30pm Spanish time, he passed away at the age of just 22.

I didnt watch much of Puerta matches but I saw Ramos always wear a Puerta t-shirt underneath in every international final.
Riak Riak they both came through the Sevilla ranks together so it's more than respect. They were like brothers
Del Nido is a son of a bitch. Ramos would be welcomed in Sevilla if it wasnt for his lies.
Sevilla fans are still mad cos he said he was going to stay (going into the 05/06 season) and help them win the title, and that he would never go to Real Madrid (they were after him all summer). But went to Real right at the end of that summer window. I can understand Sevilla fans' resentment towards him.
DEE DUBZ If you dont know the story, dont say anything. He asked Del Nido for a salary raise (he had consolidated himself as a starter after just his 1st season), and asked about the Captainâs armband. Del Nido laughed in his face and sold him near deadline day.
I know that and I was actually agreeing with you if you read my last post carefully
Tifo never disappoints and bids to JOEs voice .. He is the young Morgan Freeman
@Buka1 _ just don't ruin his comment man đ
Buka1 _ calm it u absolute neek
@Buka1 _ people like you are a disgrace to the world mate
@Buka1 _ sorry mate never knew your life was so in dark and gloomy . i hope someone takes care of your life . Peace out
Buka1 _ lol this why u have no friends
I'm not crying, you're crying!
God damn it, Tifo.
Became a legend at such a young age. RIP. Hopefully one day his son plays for Sevilla and wears the number 16.
Sergio Ramos wears the number 15, for Spain, as a tribute to Puerta
Jose Hidalgo-Ramirez Also wears a tribute shirt for him and the Star of David tattoo since Puerta is Jewish
@@bennett2874 Puerta jewish? Come on dude...
@@bennett2874 wtf really?
Pedro yeh he is search it up
Sup mate, heâs not only Christian but heâs buried in San Fernandoâs cemetery in Sevilla. The fact that you read it on the English wikipedia doesnât make it true. The Star of David is not related to Puerta, his initials AP and number 16 are.
That was lovely.
Much love to Sevilla from a Valencianista.
Un abrazo, fue una situaciĂłn horrible.
I remember watching that game with my brother on tv. I didnât know much about Puerta, but I cried. Itâs still hard to see him without having those same feelings. RIP
I remember that poignant game, he was a marvel when he was on top of the game...R.I.P. Puerta, as well as Marc Vivien Foe and other protagonists of our beautiful game that passed away playing what they loved....
izzojunior Marc-Vivien Foe wow. The first star of Man City in the 21st century. Remarkable midfielder. He could be something else had he live it.
Miki Feher
José António Reyes
Thanks for this video. Watching it teary eyed.
AC Milan did try to delay the european supercup match against sevilla after our team publicly pleaded for it, but both requests were denied by UEFA. They (Milan) had the gesture to also wear Puerta's on their shirts, the same way our players did. I remember Seedorf lifting his shirt showing Puerta's name when he was getting subtituted, and KakĂĄ signaled too when "celebrating" his penalty goal.
Also the newly named Calle Antonio Puerta is placed 100m ~ 300 ft away from the stadium grounds, you can hear the cheering from there. The stadium façade was modified above Gate 16 (Puerta 16) to include a giant b&w portrait of Antonio.
Thanks again for the video from a Sevilla fan.
Tifo started cooking. They are cutting onions over here.
Why is *Tifo* *Football* so good???
ShinLase Chahanea seems like its ran by fans of football , not football âfansâ
@@3coldcapricorn227 nice lone there bro đ
@@Eddy-dn1jx oh really?
Agree.... All these beautiful stories.
They mustâve sold their souls
It's been 12 years and I still remember that day :( it was on live TV that he collapsed and I was a little confused as to why (I was only 16). It was truly heartbreaking to hear as to why in the next couple of days. RIP Antonio :'(
This is why i like tifo football, providing good knowledge of football history with such a good content and god.. What a way to narate what a voice
You should do an episode on Dani Jarque, one of my favourite moments is when Iniesta revealed the shirt of his Butter derby rival after scoring in the World Cup Final.
Dani Jarque,siempre con nosotros..
What did iniesta's shirt say
@@chidubemezugwu it Said Dani Jarque siempre con nosotros which is Dani Jarque always with us
I remember his death so clearly. I was 11 at the time. I had been watching the game on tv at my friends house. Mannn, I was stunned when I found out he had passed. RIP Antonio
Reminds me of our club captain Hadi Norouzi who also passed away, may they both rest in peace
The tribute that Sergio Ramos would do for him is always touching. I hope his son will play for Sevilla
He just posted a tribute, which led me to here
The story of Antonio Puerta is like life itself, beautiful yet sorrowful.
Edit: Absolutely incredible video.
Touching. Really shows how sport can truly be much bigger than just competition and rivalry.
Thanks for sharing. đ
âLa cerda de dĂa menteâ
*Uh?*
âThe diamond left footâ
*awww*
đ
"La Zurda de diamante" is what was said. I'll excuse the bad pronunciation
R.I.P. Antonio Puerta ... And Antonio Reyes.
I saw the comment on the Chinese students in America vid
I had Antonio Puerta as a player on Fifa career mode and I didn't know he died. When I searched for him online when I was younger, I couldn't stop crying.
Such a beautiful video rip puerta so touching to know that such a sad moment in football could bring such union between to heated rivals the beauty of compassion and love â€
This channel is gold please never take this away from usđđŒ
This is so well done. I remember this happening, I was 20 it made me aware that such things can happen to anyone no matter their age and fitness and made me re-access things. Pureta was a special player, it was great watching him play and hard hearing of him passing.
Hasn't even started watching and I know it's gonna be amazing, liked! đ
Tragic yet beautiful is a better description than amazing.
Crazy to think that if he didn't die, he might've still played to this day.
Saddest Thing about dying young is not having a family.. He won't see his. But I'm happy he had a kid. Can't wait to see what kind of person he becomes
Sadly, I was watching his last ever game. He was quite good player with promising career.
I remember when this devastating loss happened. Still have chills. Same after what happened to Miklos Feher.
Seeing a young, fit athlete in his prime dying like this always hurts. It just isn't how things are supposed to happen. But there's something beautiful about how clubs, players and fans usually react to these terrible situations.
This was a great video, I think a Jose Antonio Reyes one would be good too
idea for tifo,a failed wonder kid series were it shows how they started were the hype came from there highest point how they fell off where could they have got and where are they now?
This is heartwarming and beautiful... It shows how football is more than jux a game... Thank you tifo football â€
I remember that event well, it was a horrible shock for everyone and I was only a casual fan of the Spanish league
goosebumps all over, thanks 4 the vid
You could have also said that Schalke play a friendly against Sevilla to honor puerta
Beautiful Video guys.... truly. May his memory live on!
Tifo smashes it out the park again! Your videos are amazing and I am always learning whenever I watch them.
Got goosebumps! Thank you!
Been a long time since i commented in a video made by Tifo, due to work. But it's always a pleasure and R.I.P to Antonio
Thank you so much for doing this...I am proud to be a sevillista..VAMOS MI SEVILLAAAAAA....still miss him...and could you also do one on Reyes đ„đ„
One of the best videos ive seen, thank you Tifo.
The video was so moving!! Tifo you are excellent in bringing out the emotions!!!
This video really made me tear up đą. I've never out right backed Sevilla but I don't dislike them either, and seeing the way it was delivered really got me emotional. I'll be watching Sevilla games differently now
You're videos are always so good. Please don't ever stop!
I got goosebumps hearing the story! The content itself, your voice, your pace, your tone, everything about this video was mesmerising.
Beautiful story, watching this brought tears to my eyes.
You guys always tackle on matters in the most distinguished and exquisite way. Can't congratulate you enough for such videos.
Excellent channel this. Keep up the great work chaps đ
What a truly heartbreaking emotional story told fantastically well. Thank you tifo for opening my eyes to this. Before obviously they filled with tears
A beautiful video guys. Well done â€ïž
First Ian Wright on David Rocastle, now this... it's the second time in a week Tifo has made me cry. Superb video folks.
Thank you for this, Tifo
I cried and it made me feel the human side of our game
I may never have known him but this video just made me realize the importance of life and legacy that people leave
I love this! Didn't know many clubs has an unsung hero.
What an amazing story, I love this channel.
This channel is so far ahead of any football channel out there. Breathtaking.
teared watching this. thanks tifo :)
You cant write stuff like this. Such an inspiring story. Lots to learn from it.
Another truly brilliant video.
I remember that last game...it always breaks my heart remembering him and few others we lost along the way
As a Sevilla fan. Thanks for a very respectful video well documented
I still sometimes name my manager Antonio puerta in master league and career mode. R.I.P Antonio.
Brilliant content very informative
I remember this day vividly. I was 12 years old watching the match on TV in my parents' bedroom. I was really sad, even though I didn't have any connection to Sevilla.
Grande Puerta!!! Great episode.
Incredibly touching!
great video as always.
A fantastic and touching story.
these stories are amazing
This is why i love football. Emotions so incredible you canât describe it. Football is Hate and Football is Love.
Everyone even the biggest rivals getting together in honor of a player that passed is one of the most beautiful things ever.
that brought tears to my eyes
RIP Antonio Puerta
one of the best football channels so interesting
I always smile when I see a new Tifo video. But where can I find the music? This is great
Amazing video
fuerza antonio!
vamo mi sevilla!
Fantastic production this
Fantastic video. RIP Antonio Puerta. Seeing Puerta collapse like that was terrible, and I was hoping he'd be fine when he walked off the pitch largely on his own. Sadly, that wasn't the case.
It's weird how (relatively) often we hear about heart problems in sports.
maybe because in sports (in this case, football), your body is working very hard for a long period of time especially your heart and lungs. Some people might not been born with heart strong enough to withstand the stress put upon it, much less if they have hereditary disease / defective organs... what's worse is, we never know until it happens.
Yet further proof that Tifo is the best football channel on CZcams, brilliant once again
Puerta was phenomenal to watch, what a legend he could've been
This gave me the feels
Respectful and beautiful
Tifo đđŒ always so classy
Damn! I didn't know Sevilla had this tremendous history!!!đ
Nuclear Atoms Sevilla is a historic club dude
there are once a time when europa league is called sevilla league.
@@francelonelo9187 haha
I actually still remember watching that game between Sevilla and Getafe. It was really scary to watch. May he always be remembered.
Your videos keep getting better and better. Big fan, keep up the hard work!
Great video as always Tifo!! I would hope you make a video about Adrian Doherty, Man Unitedâs lost gem who was âbetter than Giggs.â
Wasn't expecting to cry this morning...
damn that made my eyes tear up. RIP Puerta
Sad as hell after that! Wish Iâd seen him play now. That Sevilla team was amazing and rightly feared, beat Barcelona loads of times in that period, and even denied them the liga title in 2007, which Real ended up winning on head-to-head
Great video. Do one for Davide Astori who died in similar fashion.
A great video, please do Daniel Jarque as well
I remember watching that game as a kid....I remember him collapsing...I remember that day...đ
you're a natural story teller joe.
Heartbreaking đ
Am I the only 1 who wanted to cry
Man, I can only think what could've been with Puerta, rip to a young fallen footballer, hope his son carries on his short lived legacy at Sevilla
Saludos desde Alemania â€ïžđ
This still hurts my heart. He was v talented. I'm sure his father died v young also. Leaving him behind just like with his son
RIP Puerta & Navas
I find it some surreal to see Tifo talking about Spanish less known football stories and to pronounce the name of Alfredo Relaño, but I like it
im crying
