  • Ivins, Utah was put under a microscope following a child abuse case that garnered worldwide attention. When EMTs, paramedics and firefighters responded to the call on August 30, 2023, they weren’t sure what to expect.
“I think we just get the hand that we’re dealt and we show up and we do are job no matter what cards those are,” said Maddee Ickes with Santa Clara-Ivins Fire & Rescue. Ickes, at the time was an EMT still in paramedic school. “There was a lot more depth to the call then kind of what I had imagined.”
Ickes was one of the first emergency responders to reach ‘R’, Ruby Franke’s son who courageously called for help at a neighbors home.

I think deep down Ruby thinks she's a bad person. Rather than deal with her own pain she projected all her fear and rage onto her children. Since she doesn't have power with herself she demands to have control of her children. Being in therapy because you think you're a bad person takes years and years of hard work. As long as she believes she is bad (and now she really is) she will be a danger. That's just my opinion, speaking from personal experience.

Russel and Eve had been pulled out of school a long time ago and were roaming around the neighborhood, asking for playmates that were all at school at that time.
Jodi lived somewhat "exclusive" with few families around.

They spotted the kids weeding and doing chores without shoes in 100°+ weather. They called CPS a number of times, but cps did nothing.
Apparently Ruby had more or less already abandoned the kids back in springville. She would leave them for weeks at a time, while she visited Jodi in Ivan’s for their cult endeavors. Once the springville neighbors started calling cps, she brought them to Ivan’s in order to “fix them.”
They definitely would have ended up deceased. Jodie was giving her an out of motherhood, filling her head with cult grandiosity.

Noooo Ruby was abusing these kids prior to being around Jodie. she wrote those diaries because she wanted to relive her control. she enjoyed this abuse torture. she did find out in jail that she needs to act remorseful to get less time. I wish that the state had decided NOT to offer a plea deal and instead insisted on going to trial - with the public reaction so intense, the verdict would never have been in doubt, so maybe prosecutors decided that Hildebrandt and Franke could never get a fair trial in Utah.
Or maybe both Church and State felt that a public trial (imagine it being broadcast live on TV and CZcams!) would uncover so many coverups and sins and failures that the citizens of Utah, including ordinary Mormons, would hold the political and ecclesiastical authorities to account for enabling, even encouraging, the House of Horrors.

Are you serious? Do you know how serious of an offense it is for members of the LDS Church to abuse their children or spouses? They can get excommunicated for abusing their children or spouse. The LDS Church is very stern to abusive parents and any LE of State officials will be disgusted at these crimes against these children, no matter their religion, they will probably be harsher towards someone who should know better.
Tell me, what religion is Leticia Staunch? The West’s in California that killed their 2 adopted toddlers and lied about it to the police, what religion are they? What religion is Shanda Vander Ark? How about Lindsay Clancy? Or Casey Anthony? Chris Watts, what was his religion? Diane Downs? Any time a member of the LDS church commits a crime, the fact they are LDS is mentioned in every newscast and article and crazy accusations coming crawling out of the woodwork, all of which are ridiculous and false. But yet hundreds of other parents kill their children and there is never any mention of their religion. There are horrible people in all religions and walks of life. Do you think ALL Muslims are evil just because of a handful of extremists? I don’t, I have met many wonderful Muslims. How about Blacks? Just because a handful of Blacks commit crimes, are ALL Blacks bad? If a POC commits a crime and has a judge that is the same skin tone do you say he will get an easy sentence because the judge is the sane race? I would sure hope you wouldn’t. It’s time to stop painting everyone with the same brush and only hold those that commit the crimes accountable.

Has anyone brought up the “Pen Papers” that Kevin mentioned in the audio interview? These were not Ruby’s journal. These pertain to Jodi and all her “visions”. You know the ones where she believed they were so important that they would one day be like scripture. What a delusional person. I’m just curious if those were found and if they were used as evidence,

The two oldest are over the age of 18 and pretty much on their own, J and A were found staying over Jodi and Ruby's friends, (who are also involved with the same cult) but it is not clear where the two girls lived. There is some evidence of J also being ad Jodi's home at some point, but we don't know much about it.
Also, some Springville neighbor had called police and CPS because they saw kids left alone in the house for a long period of time.

I wonder if Jodie was charging Ruby a fee or rent for her stay there. Also, her asking to write a journal could be a way to protect herself because she knows that what their doing is wrong. Jodie isn't dumb, it's Ruby's writing in the journal, just in case the law gets involved.

He is an incredibly brave boy. I can say that his pain tolerance tells you the amount of abuse he went through. I was physically and emotionally abused by my mother, not to this extent, I was only hit with fists, pancake turners, and paddles but you honestly do become numb to the pain. You just want to take it and wait for it to hopefully be over soon. Sadly it seems like his was never ending. I hope her husband never regains custody of the youngest 2. And, if it were me, I would never want to see her again.

In comparison to what would have happened to those kids if they’d moved them to the place in AZ for “discipline” these kids were lucky. This throwing out the devil lunacy of his mother’s is an argument against religion and in favor of more mental health services.
