When my best friend asked me what order he should play the games I told him Start with RDR1 then play RDR2 and after you finished the story go back to RDR1 and see what decisions you make on my first playthrough when you hunt Javier I gunned him down without a second thought but after playing RDR2 and seeing he pointed his gun up instead of at John and Arthur I didn't have the heart to do it instead I captured him thinking in this timeline he could escape like have it be mentioned in rdr3

There was no one left that could have trusted him at the end. The last jump he had to take all by himself.
One showed how Dutch gained full loyalty from a man he would consider closer to him than a son, the other showed Dutch giving up after becoming as demented as he did
Didn't really care so much for Dutch on the original RDR as the game doesn't really give so much exposition on his backstory, but the sequel really helped understand his whole ideals and why people gravitated so much to him.
The interesting thing is that dutch’s voice sounds older in the first game despite the fact that the second game came out 8 years later. Porps to the voice actor

Dutch sounds so much more depressed in his final moments in RDR1. Like he has given up and is trying to convince John to stop. So john knows he gave up and his final plan succeeded when you think about it. His plan won. He technically got away from it all.
