    Thanks Caroline - so glad you liked it. They are especially good for out and about - I use them all the time on the train, drawing other passengers and, with a waterbrush, you can actually paint without being spotted!

    Thank you Lynne for showing me how to use watercolor pencils properly. I took some Inktense pencils on a hiking trip, but was impatient and adding water too soon! Now I know...wait till the end. It's been ages since I sketched on a daily basis, but your videos inspire me. Many blessings in all your artistic endeavors.

    Thanks Paige. I just carry about 10 pencils in an elastic band, along with the waterbrush, in a handbag pocket. Sometimes I pop them in a pencil case if I have pens I want to carry as well. The key is to dump the tin they come in and limit the number of colours.

    Thanks Susie - glad it's helpful. If you've not tried them before, one tip is to try not to blend too many colours at once - a couple of colours in any one place will stop you getting the 'mud factor'! There are lots more tips on how to learn to use them in an illustrated article on my blog, on the post for 26th Oct 2012. I'm not allowed to post a link here, but there's a link from my website. Have fun!

    Thank you Lynne, I found you via Urban Sketchers and this is the by far and away the best tutorial for Inktense pencils I've seen and I really love your work . It was also great to see someone actually out and about and not in the studio - and in the UK too!

    This is a fundamentally important video, absolutely the no-messing-around technique I'd like to experiment with. 4:38 Brilliant, you don't actually mix the colurs to get a grey, instead just put the colors next to each other, I love it.

    Very inspiring Lynne. Delighted to see a bit of Sheffield, many years ago I knew a young man from there, he broke my heart... but it was worth it. ;) By the way, I didn't find the music to interfere at all. It was lively and went well with your work. Thank you for sharing your techniques, very appreciated!

    Neat! Thank you very much for making and sharing this video. I really enjoyed watching your process, and if nothing else, will take away the lesson of the convenience of using a sports wristband instead of a cloth or my bare arm to clean my waterbrush. I only just learned about waterbrushes today, so your video was doubly interesting to this particular beginner.

    Hi Lynne! I love watching your illustrating tutorials! I also love and appreciate how you teach us how you create your wonderful characters and plan your compositions out and how to use the mediums in your children's books. I want so much to illustrate and author children's books. I love children's books and loved reading them to my wonderful children when they were little and now I love reading children's books...and "acting out" the characters to my darling grandchildren! I collect children's books...I almost have my own children's library now! I know you are very busy but could you put together more videos of you working on your illustrations and tutorials?! You are an excellent instructor and artist! Have you authored as well as illustrated your books before. I am going to order the booms you have illustrated. I love your style! I have taken some art classes at the Salt Lake City Community College in Utah, including 3 figure drawing classes, and a few drawing and watercolor classes from the local school district. I can't afford any more college classes now so I have been watching artists on CZcams learning from them..delightfully you also! I have a collection of "how-to" art books that I treasure and I'm teaching myself from them, but it is definitely not the same as a live instructor or an instructor on CZcams or from a CD. Have you ever made pop-up books? Thank you for taking the time to share your talent and tutorials! I am going to tell my friends about your books and share them with my grandchildren! Someday I hope I can delight them with my own illustrations and books and help children to love reading and art! Why Is It publishers don't want a beginning illustrator to write their own children's story as well as illustrate them? When authors of children's books first wrote children's stories they also illustrated them, like: Beatrix Potter's "The Tale of Peter Rabbit"! She had such beautiful illustrations and a wonderful story! Now they make complicated with the rule of "you can't illustrate and author your own story" until you have become "established" or well-known. I have stories but I want to illustrate them as well...and have them published! Well, thank you again from a big fan(who hopes to see more of your tutorials)!

    Not sure what you mean. The only large plastic sleeves I can think of are portfolio sleeves, which come at A3 - A1 size. They are good for pencils drawings and watercolour, but I don't use plastic sleeves for pastels - they need to be mounted onto card and then given a paper overlay, to protect the chalk from smudging. A plastic sleeve just picks up chalk from the surface and looks a mess, plus you would almost certainly damage the artwork sliding it inside. Hope that helps! :-)

    Hi Lynne, Suzy, Melissa and I just watched your video. Suzy has some new inktense pencils we bought her in Singapore (Melissa doing a gymnastics competition there!). Kids loved recognising Broomhill and even sat there "in that exact seat" when we were last in Sheffield. We love your picture. We think it looks better and brighter than the real Broomhill :-)

    I have looked up the Shoo Raynor interview film. It's not a sleeve - the system is just the same as my usual paper overlay, except I have used a sheet of acetate instead of paper. It's sellotaped along the top edge to the card mount.

  • @LynneChapmanArtist
    @LynneChapmanArtist  Před 11 lety

    As long as the paper is decent quality cartridge or watercolour paper, it doesn't get wet enough to be a problem: you are working on small, localised areas and using small amounts of water at a time, rather than soaking big chunks of the paper, as with painting.

  • @7aniinaz
    @7aniinaz Před 11 lety

    I'm not sure if it's a sleeve!, if you check this video ( in interview with you) minute 12:10 I guess you'll know what I mean. There is a plastic cover over you chalk or pastel illustration That I really loved. I usually use watercolor, but liked the idea of how you save your drawings in that vedio, it

    I'm afraid being an illustrator is a massive area, so I offer general advice - there would be way too much to say. However, I do believe in helping people who are trying to get started, so I have written various articles on my blog, dealing with some of the specifics about how to get work and the sort of things you need to think about when building a portfolio. Go to my website, then to Learning Resources / Tips for Illustrators and follow the links
    Good luck!
