  • Cruising the Willamette River with “My Lil Dingh Dongh” 8’ vintage hydroplane with my recently acquired 1959 Mercury 30H w 2blade Seebold propeller. Previous to this, I’d been battling many sorted issues. In particular was a running/dying issue. Took me awhile to figure out why. I have a small fuel tank mounted at rear of motor at the steering bar. In certain wave formations while trying to get into a plane, the vented fuel tank would get saturated if not partially submerged. Water gets in tank, gas floats on top, straight in the fuel lines, runs bad then dies. Well, I still need something to remedy the problem, but at least I’m aware of it and can to keep it from happening.

Good f'ing God!!!! A lot of people don't realize the monster that's pushing this little 8 ft boat! That engines pretty nasty as well!😂👍

She’s really is kind of a monster, especially on this little boat!

Fantastic...the rush just inches above the water must be crazy. My dad and his buddies built and raced in the 40's and 50's. They even built their own props. Sadly by the time I came along he was on to pleasure boats. You have to have brass balls to run those things wide open.

Making props is in art form! That’s some good stuff to influence a youngster.
So, in my next video of this combo, I was driving like a cowboy, and got myself in trouble and rolled the boat and damn near sank the boat n motor. In other words, I ran the experiment and have kept setups more traditionally. But yes, in my smaller boat, it took me a couple years to let her “air” out completely. Doing the better part of 60mph in an unstable feeling 8’ft boat.😉

You need a Harry Pinner or Seebold 3-blade prop-would grab better!

I’ve got a Seebold two blade that does decent enough, but my Dewald three blade is my favorite out of the props I’ve got to date. It’s a bummer that these days that rarely do props show up for sale on EBay or any other platforms. That being said, you’re a Seebold and Pinner believer. Thanks!🤘🏻😉

    How fast?

With the 30h on it, I never did get to truly “air” the boat out/ keep the throttle pinned long enough to see some big numbers. An outing or two later, I ended up rolling the boat over (caused by too high center of gravity from the motor). Boat is just too small. In that rolling event, I damn near sank the boat and motor. There’s video in my dealio chronicling that panic.
So to make a short story long, I quit attempting to run the 30h on the little boat.
      With my mk28 2cylinder I’ve clocked 57.8mph.
30h on my bigger boat it’s been well over 60mph.
Had I had a good enough stretch to leg it out, maybe 65-70 on the little boat. But it’s be terrifying! The squirts in this video probably equaled 50-55mph going on a guess. The acceleration is pretty awesome! So to sum it all up….How fast?….Plenty for this guy!👍
