Review: 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Convertible

- I spend a few days with the 2024 Corvette E-Ray to see what the first AWD hybrid Corvette is like to drive and live with. Using the same strong V8 from the regular C8 and powerful front electric motors, you get basically the same performance as the Z06 while getting fuel economy like a regular Corvette. Beyond that and the 4 season capability, it's hard to justify the E-Ray over the similarly priced Z06. But for those that like what the E-Ray offers, it's a ton of fun like all the other C8s. What do you think about the E-Ray? Would you want an AWD Corvette? Thanks to Chevrolet for providing this vehicle to review!

This is a great spec for this E-Ray
It really looks great
Sweet review, and Happy birthday Matt!
Thanks!
Hi Matt! :) Thank you for being my role model for all these years! :)
I’m honored to be a role-model! 🙏
I second this!!
Always a good day with a corvette
That reaction did not disappoint 😂
I’m a Mustang guy but I absolutely love the C8 Vette. A little out of my budget but definitely one of my favorites.
For 95% of buyers, the Stingray is the best choice over either the Z06 or eRay. Outside of a track the extra performance is meaningless for the 1% or 2% of the time you will ever be driving at a limit beyond the base Corvette and for long distances, the 25 - 30 mpg of the Stingray is great.
Absolutely agree still happy with my 2020 convertible such a great car for a road trip! Wouldn’t trade it for the newer ones!
Excellent point. I like the grand sport for looks in the c7 but that's all you need unless you're a real track guy
I think a Gran Tour package with Super Cruise would be popular
AWD
@@johnadams9692 So you think it's worth an extra $40k?
It's a neat car, but I'd definitely rather have my Z06
This car looks awesome in the white and blue.
In my opinion the BEST thing about the E-Ray is that in 20 years there won't be any 70 year old dudes sitting next to them with a board telling you how rare it is because they don't like electrified stuff lol.
HAHAHA true
GM missed the opportunity to have the mandated ev noise sound like an idling V8
So many times I gave up on a night drive because it was midnight and although I'm nocturnal but with my V8 Camaro I didn't want to wake up my neighbour...hood. The stealth option is a game changer, shame I can't afford an upgrade!
Something about Matt + a Corvette is perfection lol I’ve watched your C7 Z06 vid and stingray numerous times love to see it!
Thanks man!
C8 is my dream car. Love the e ray and this spec/color. Thanks for the review!
Fully agree with you Matt on the Corvette group (along with Aston Martin and Porsche) offering actual COLORS for interiors, rather than variations on hues of dirt - like the rest of the industry.
That. White with those blue racing stripes is gorgeous good video 📸
Great vid, and a good length. I like the highway pull portion. You should have a highway on-ramp acceleration segment! (Probably the most relatable acceleration test)
I love that color combo
Thanks Matt I just ordered mine and CAN'T WAIT
Lane assist is standard on the 24 C8’ models. The button is up by the rear view mirror. I have it on my 24 Stingray 2LT HTC.
Got to ride shotgun in one of these on the Angeles Crest Highway last year and it was absolutely incredible. Insane levels of capability these have and the kind of hybrid I can get behind.
Great review as always.
Great to see this video! Excellent commentary as usual! 😎👍
Terrific review Matt
Amazing video Matt.
great Review:
Matt
Happy birthday! 🎂
The C8 makes the C7 look great in retrospect
100% agree
These are gorgeous. Hope I can get one one day
This thing is gorgeous.
Nice review ❤
Lovely vehicle
Hey Matt, awesome review. One thing I have to disagree with is the performance for cost comment when relating it to a 911. It's no secret Porsche underrates their cars. The old GTS on paper was a 0-60 in 3.1 seconds when equipped with PDK and AWD. When tested, the 4 GTS was hitting 2.8 0-60 times. The new GTS on paper shows a 2.9 0-60, I would bet that it's closer to 2.5-2.6s. Porsche has always been about efficient power, and effective driving dynamics. I'm sure the E Ray is an awesome street car and probably super fun around the track, but if your talking low to mid 100K cars, I would pick the Porsche anytime.
You beat me to it! Saying the Porsche was more money for less performance is definitely the wrong mindset...
Since I would never go to a track, I would get the eray.
I love the color scheme on it
Happy birthday Matt!
Thanks!
"Wider is better" reminds me of the Pontiac Grand Prix commercials from way back when lol. I honestly think this is really cool, but ultimately I'd just opt for a Z06 for the performance and that sound. I think these will ultimately have some collectibility if they don't gain any traction in showrooms. All the painted bodywork definitely gives it a unique aftermarket vibe.
Oh my, this is my only Corvette I can buy Matt.
Sounds and look great
Great car, esp for us in the northeast that want to drive these a little sooner and later in the season. The only thing I would change is blacking out the color match peices- makes the front looks like a moustache imo. The HTC is the way to go!
I was actually waiting awhile for official announcement on ERay bc I was considering ordering one. Once I saw that unattainable price tag for me I moved on. Was always hoping Ford Mustang AWD hybrid actually happened but never did so I'm going to just pay off my 2019 GT Premium/CS that's almost fully loaded and stick to paying off my house/procharger the car.
Corvette E-Ray is the BMW i8 done right. I could hear birds chirping while you were cruising in stealth mode - 16 MPG city is impressive for a Corvette
Also, HBD dude!
16 mpg is very low for a Corvette. C5 and C6 could pull 28 pretty easily on the highway...
Pretty cool car, the final form of the i8 lol
The body-colored panels that were carbon-flash on Z06 are just standard on E-Ray. You can do body-colored Z06 and carbon-flash on E-Ray for no cost. So it won't necessarily be an easy distinguishing feature to tell E-Ray and Z06 apart.
Good to know, thanks for the correction.
Makes me wonder how the eray does in inclement weather compared to the others, given it's capability to spin all 4 tires.
Sooo 15hp shy of z06 but it’s Awd🤤😍
We need a N/A powered wide body corvette and a curb weight of less than 3500lbs ..i dont know call it a Grand Sport
I think that this appeal of this car might be for someone who prefers the AWD but likes the style of Corvette. That said, this could be a unique car for a drag build because this car is making 655HP before adding a supercharger. The AWD would also put the power down better provided there is a RWD mode if you want to do burnouts, etc.
I'd pick the E-ray, cause I've driven front wheel drive cars all my life, and if I were to get a Vette I'd have less of a chance of crashing it since I'm not familiar with how to control rear wheel drive cars if the back end were to get away.
Cylinder deactivation is no bueno. But I believe sport mode or manual mode turns that off.
That center screen reminds me of those All-in-one home computers
I haven't used the pilot sport 4 all seasons, but the 3 was terrible in anything other than dry conditions if it was below 50 degrees. I'd hardly call it an all season tire.
👍👍
Can’t wait to see the Zora considering this is already bonkers fast. Maybe Ferrari SF90 levels of speed for way cheaper.
It does in fact have lane keep assist, button is up next to the mirror. Your mileage was bad, because you kept gunning it lol. I get WAY better mileage on the E-Ray...
It’s like a Z06..but in stealth mode now .
Why does everyone complain about the wall of buttons??!! It took me 5 minutes and got use to mine it’s not as big of a deal as EVERYONE making it out to be
🙂👍
matty no cheap sports cars any more lol ill have to keep my 99 trans am
AWD baby
SubaruWRXfan
nice automobile
Great that Corvette is now a real contender in many ways rather than just a one trick pony.
i ALWAYS will need your accelerations in my life... I thought you were a screamer tho...jk jk
I like how they look but no mere mortal with this economy can afford it so for de 1,500 they might sell, you will see them with the New Balance guy that bought his home for 3 goats and .50 cents. I don’t even bother in even pay attention to them. And every car now is the same.
Not sure anyone will actually buy this over Z06…
I would, if I could afford it. 😂 I love the growling sound of the 6.2l V8.
Such a nice car but White is such a waste on this car. And the Blue stripes are embarrassing. 😬
Karate Chops chops chops
Im not an corvette guy, and not hating, but the new look for the corvette I do not like. I prefer the c5 c6 models..It's way to pricey for low income to afford...
You’re 100% right. Something about the looks of the c8 just seems tacky. The smooth lines of the c5/c6 are timeless.
C6 was peak Corvette exterior. C7 was over-designed and C8 is something else entirely.
It's too pricy for ppl who are doing well 😂
I never liked the look of vettes until C7 came out.
C6 Z06 for the win, one of the coolest car ever IMO
Chevy NSX and WAY overpriced!🤣
Who cares about fuel economy?
Almost everyone cares about fuel economy in Canada where we have insane carbon taxes
@@davidlepoidevin4239 if fuel economy mattered then why doesn’t the corvette get 50+ mpg?
when youve got That kind of money, to spend 100-125k for a Car, then is that type of person Really about a few dollars at the pump? probably not.
