In the hours before, all mailboxes and manhole covers are taped off with tamper evident tape. It says US Secret Service on it. So this was one of two things, a monumental failure or a monumental setup for failure. The thoroughness of their visits is down to the tiniest of detail. So something stinks in suburbia here, in my opinion. This whole situation does not match up with what I have seen. I have delivered mail to a former President (Gerald Ford) and I can say that those agents in charge there were all business. Always alert and nothing but the facts.
When something happens due to either extreme incompetence or extreme competence, you have to assume it's incompetence. Staging this thing so perfectly and getting so many different people to work together so flawlessly would be almost impossible. The local police was involved, and the secret services have recently been infiltrated by feminism and affirmative action, which led them to hire incompetent women. That's more than enough to explain the whole debacle.
