I've owned my 2015 V6 Auto for 8.61 years as of today (7.1.23) and have right at 43,200 miles on it. It's the Automatic but I use "S" mode and initiate every single up and down shift. The last time the transmission shifted for me was probably several years ago. I find the engine to have just enough torque, just enough revs, and just the right gearing vs. weight vs. road speed. Nice sound, and the transmission never disappoints me.
I am on my third set of tires on it. Originally it had the 235/50-18s and I found them ponderous. Next round I went with 235/45-18s (can't remember the brand / type). Recently I moved to 235/40-18s with the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s, and the car just handles very nicely for a big car. Yes, my speedometer reads a little higher than reality, but I also reduced unsprung weight just a bit, reduced sidewall flex, and lowered the effective gearing just a tad. The car also sits just about an inch lower. The ride is still great, and the wheel wells are still filled out nicely from an appearance standpoint.
Low points would be the barebones interior and the lackluster audio (compared to my last two cars, a 2007 Civic Si and a 2012 Scion FR-S, both of which had far clearer and fuller audio). I find the seats and driving position decent enough although I tend to have the seat up as high as it will go.
Only modification I've made other than the tires has been to paint the hood matte black. I did this not to make it look like a carbon fiber hood but to remove a distracting glare / sun glint coming off the rightside crease in the hood and blinding me. It worked.
It hasn't all been perfect. The AC went out in 2018, and Ford wanted a shocking $2400 to fix it. I bought a thirty dollar can of AC Pro in 2019 and it has been blowing cold for four years now. Had the brake light actuator stopper disintegrate, replaced with small neodymium magnets (there's a recall on this item now but when it happened to me Ford wanted $700 to fix it!). Also had the door latch issue occur, which was fixed under recall right in my driveway by the traveling Ford dealership mechanic! Also had the rear camera die, also replaced under recall. Other than that, NO PROBLEMS. The engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, frame, and all other electronic and interior elements are rock solid.

    • @niveketihw1897
      @niveketihw1897 Před rokem

Of the three new cars I've owned, my dream combo would be the chassis / body / mechanicals of the FR-S, the interior / audio / controls of the Civic Si, and the 3.7 liter V6 and transmission of the Mustang.

I have a 2015 3.7 V6 Mustang and I love the performance. When I go for a drive its usually the length of Nova Scotia from Yarmouth to Sydney on Cape Breton Island. I do highway trips, rather than short hops like work to home, this is where this engine truly shines, at least in my opinion. I should not admit this but I've rocketed by some 5L Mustangs in my travels. its a great engine that puts out more power than the V8 did in the late 1990's and early 2000's. It's a shame that Ford wanted to push the 4 by taking away the V6. While I cruse rather quickly I never slam down and abuse the engine. I'm also fussy about oil changes as I love my car. In my experience Mustangs are one of the strongest cars on the road. My home province is surrounded by ocean water and roads are salty in winter, even with this I see lots of 25 year old Mustangs on the highway.

According to what I've read, vehicles with the 3.7L V6 which have FRONT WHEEL DRIVE do have the internal water pump (it sits in the V, under the manifold). The rear wheel drive 3.7L V6, which is the mustangs, have a water pump that is bolted onto the outside of the engine. It has to do with whether the engine and transmission is mounted laterally, or longitudinally.

Obviously having the V8 is going to give it more horsepower, but between that and the added weight of the convertible it's just such a different experience. I was at the Ford dealership a few days ago and the sales man said no one wants to buy them they want the V8 but some wished Ford would still have the 3.7 I told him that Ford will find out they made a mistake and the 3.7 will come back and probably with a twin turbo package, I hope they do. The new Ecoboost prices are the same as a GT Mustang so the only people buying the Ecoboost is for the fuel economy but the ones who want a Muscle Car they go for the GT basic V8 or all out for the GT Premium V8 which I seen a 2018 And Ford Dealership wanted $50,000 for it but it was NICE

There is only a 5 hp difference from 11-14 to the 15 and up 3.7’s (305 vs 300), this was mostly a marketing gimmick by Ford to sell more 4 cylinder ecoboosts because Ford knew they were dropping the v6, as you mentioned the 3.7 makes more hp with 93 octane, the ecoboost was marketed with 310 hp based and 320 tq off 93 octane, that same car only makes 275 hp on 87 and 300 tq, so the v6 even in 15’ with 87 octane outperforms the ecoboost and most people don’t exclusively use 93 like myself. Huge difference there and that’s why I agree the v6 was a better car for the base and more reliable. It will be back most likely in the form of a 2.7 Ecoboost it’s just a matter of time

The 305 hp rating is on 93, ford even says so in all their literature, but yes the 5hp drop was a slight change in the intakes and maybe a slight change in tuning plus, as you say they wanted the 4banger eco to become more popular to meet the stiffer EPA fuel mileage average requirements, thus the 3 cyl eco engine in the focus and fiesta etc, trying to boost overall average of fuel economy!

The car is governed to around 114mph from the factory so is definitely no issue to there otherwise Ford would have a big lawsuit on their hands. I took my governor off and on multiple occasions took my 2014 V6 auto to anywhere between 120 and 125mph on multiple occasions with no issue and very smooth ride. I once took the car to 130mph on the stock driveshaft while racing a MazdaSpeed 3. I did pass him but didn't mean to take it up that far. There was no issue, and the car was still smooth, but I wouldn't suggest taking it up that high on multiple occasions. I now have the SR Performance one-piece aluminum driveshaft that SamStang here had shown below the 13-14 stock driveshaft but have yet to test it to beyond 130mph. I have H rated tires so will not try going over 140mph or too much over it. I mainly got the one-piece for peace of mind. I was always worried I'd have driveshaft failure being I have a tune and other performance mods on my car and do like taking it to extremes here and there.. I mean why get a sports car if you couldn't test its limits? But yeah I wouldn't suggest going over 125mph on the stock driveshaft just to be safe. I also got support for this information from the MPT Performance tuning company.

I think they need to get the Head out of there Butt and Down the 4cly.and stay with the 6v because I have a Mercury with the 6V and get 31miles on the Highway and better at higher speed. Sorry but I am old school and think FORD just want to fix more 4cly motor problems when you have a 4cly works harder at that higher Speed. Wish FORD put a rear wheel Drive in the Ford Edge 6v with Manual trans. That would be Cool Car to have. Well hope Ford reads this GOD SPEED

Ford never made sense making a powerful v6 like this and then trying to make the car good on gas. Between the poor gear ratio and lack of strong parts to handle really fast speeds, this made no sense at all. This car should have come stock with GT parts and just lacking the engine type. This would have made it a perfect track car straight out of the gate

yea i bet when ford brings the v6 back it will be a ecoboost. then the mustang L4 ecoboost will drop in sales. because think about it ford wouldnt have released a ecoboost v6 because it would kill the GT market some so they are trying to make the mustang gt modales more powerful until they start to think of releasing a v6 ecoboost mustang.

You can put turbo on it and go with AMR because you can easily push 550 to the wheels with their turbo kit

It's not a V8 but that shouldn't take anything away from this engine it's reliable and if you take your time to build it they are scary sleepers and even stock they are good enough to have some fun I myself have a drop top 14 with the V6 and a 2020 GT and I enjoy driving my V6 more especially during the late and early summer.

They did not D tune it. It's switch categories from sports car to economy car. At which point the testing along with the dyno testing is done with 87 octane instead of 93. If you take a stock 2015 to 2017 V6 and only change the fuel to 93 octane and dyno test it, it will make 305 to 310. Depending.

It was always an economy car, it’s even stated in the manual that, that was always the focus. The engines will BOTH fluctuate with higher octane, but it’s definitely detuned, the manifold is even shaped differently. It wouldn’t be smart to have the v6 with the same hp as their ecoboost middle line, call a tuner up and they will tell you the same thing

Bought my v6 with 56k miles now it has 113k miles and you can’t tell a difference. I don’t even change my oil or check any fluids or temps and I redline the car when it’s cold.
