    Unless you like the sound and/or look the following mods are a waste:
    Cold Air Intake
    Throttle body spacer
    Throttle body
    Shorty headers
    High flow cats
    If you're on a limited budget, I would suggest the following:
    Tune
    K&N drop in filter
    Gears
    Tires
    Long tube headers if you don't live in California or a jurisdiction that has adopted their standard

    • @SuedeStonn
      @SuedeStonn Před 4 lety +1

      Are the mods a waste altogether, or do you think they're just overpriced? Seperately the first mods you mention won't get much, but from what I have read when used in conjunction with each other they do more (the whole is greater than the sum)... and so should be worth it, but you have to go all-in or not at all.
      My 2016 Mustang V6 (so far):
      HRE FF15 18x9(f)/18x10(r) wheels, Cooper Zeon UHP All Season tires
      KnN CAI
      Bully Dog GTX tuner
      Installing this weekend:
      JBA shorty headers
      aFe Mach Force XP catback exhaust
      BBK 73mm TB and Airaid TB spacer
      Next on the list:
      Driveshaft (G-Force, QA1, or other that fits a 2016 V6 manual; preferably carbon fiber)
      Down the road:
      aFe Featherlight coilover suspension
      Stroker kit (because I don't want a supercharger or turbo, keep it NA)

    • @hu3.789
      @hu3.789 Před 4 lety +1

      I listed mods that were a waste of money and those that actually help. An aftermarket cold air intake is a waste because a Mustang already comes with one. A throttle body spacer has never done anything for performance. A larger throttle body doesn't do much because the restriction lies in the intake, not the throttle body. The problem with shorty headers is the tubes aren't long enough for effective scavenging to take place. High flow cats aren't effective for 2 reasons. The first is that in many cases you get "Check Engine" lights. A high flow cat is nothing more than a cat with less material in it. Besides cats don't provide much, if any restriction. I own a 2014 Mustang V6 and my car runs low to mid 12s and I have none of that stuff on my car.
      The second set of mods are those that I would recommend. I base my selection on performance and my experience at the dragstrip. When it comes to performance parts and claims, be very careful. There are many claims that are deceptive.

    Hey all. My 2016 3.7 V6 is fun. I have the same CAI, with the BBK Shorty Headers, BBK 73mm throttle body, Magniflow 109099 full length cat back system. For tuner I have unlimited tunes from place out of Florida.
    I've gutted it ànd added sound deadner because the exhaust drones at 60~70 mph. The TB killed the MPG from 32 to 28ish. I've also added full length Steeda chassis jacking rails, Lower K Brace for the rear end. Ford performance Upper n Lower Front K braces. Done it all myself. Honestly it's fun but hasn't been worth the money... The 6 speed manual is great and after 35k miles I'm still enjoying it.

    To add to what he said, you kinda have to be prepared to pay to bore the intake opening and get a bigger throttle body to get anything out of a cold air intake other than just sound. If you get more air out of a cai, but not a bigger opening for the engine to draw in air, it won’t make a difference, performance wise. Still sounds better.

    My experience with the s550 3.7 is the MPT has been great . Some are disappointed where they will not update for minor mods but Ford went with a speed density arrangement so for exhaust and intake changes , unlike a mass air flow design adjusting the tune is not necessary. The ECU will see the change. I highly suggest changing the rear gearing to 3:55 in lieu shortys or an intake if on a budget. Between the changing the rear gearing and a MPT tune your getting the 99% out of a NA 3.7 with 1% for a good cat back.

    Interesting man. Not many people talk about their v6. I got my 2015 v6 with 35,000 mile for 12000!! 1yr and half ago. Haven't regretted it since. Decent mpg and power for a daily. I bought it modified a bit. Previous owner had it tuned and added a different exhaust. He reverted it back to stock tune. Sounds really nice. It growls when it's reved to around 3500rpm and nice and quite under. He added a nice carbon fiber spoiler and some cool dual racelines. Not a big fan of them however. I haven't really modified it myself, but I have done research on what to do to it. I really want to had leather seating and maybe an after market navigation. It's that it is something that is not necessary and I could probably do something more productive with it. I'd say about 1,000 for both. I am thinking about adding struts to the hood, nice and cheap. Lol. I got California legal tint, but I live in AZ and I can legally tint them darker. I probably will, but I did make frequent trips to San diego, I am a little concerned. But it's understandable for someone from Az to have them tinted if I get stoped. Is tuning it worth it? Cold air intake? I use cheap 86 fuel, go to work, have fun sometimes.

      Tune and CAI is always worth it in my opinion because it is very simple install and the CAI sounds good and looks good under the hood with some minor gains and the tuner is a must as it brings everything together and is the brains behind all your mods. The tuner is what tells your car you even have the new mods on so it knows what to do with them.

  • @Str8sixfan
    @Str8sixfan Před 5 lety +8

    ROI with throttle bodies isn't that great. I think you were spot on with the air intake tube with stock air box and drop in (that seems to be a pretty common consensus, even among V8 and Ecoboost owners too). Really your same idea about the throttle body just gets shoved further down the road. Sure bigger throttle body might get more air in, but it's limited by the intake manifold behind it. It's not like the hole behind the throttle body gets bigger to match it. So for the $400 on the throttle body, it's not a lot of hp per dollar. Love the video though, I can tell you put a lot of time thinking about it before filming. Appreciate you putting it together.

      All these so-called cold air intakes have a problem with heat soap once you actually parked the car following it being driven I get air intake temperatures almost 50 degrees hotter than the outside air sometimes because of this heat soap I think a heat extractor style Hood like the GT350 or something similar would probably go a long way toward allowing the heat to escape the engine compartment while the car is parked

    • @nicolesmrekar2046
      @nicolesmrekar2046 Před 4 lety +1

      @@matewansid I think you mean "heat soak". There's a lot of ways to help with this, the HE hood is one, and an open grille is the other, like the Roush grille.
      As for Six's comments. Even with out the manifold swap, the CAI and Throttle body will still increase performance especially with your exhaust done. Now I know mine's not a 6. (Working on a full build 09, swapping from 4.6 to 5.3 in a week.) I have an open (Steeda CAI) because I also have open grille.

    A cold air intake would only provide a decent amount of addition power if you supplement it with an *electronic tuner*, to make the car's ECU respond properly to it. Otherwise, like you said, it'll be minimal gains. And even if you do get the CAI and the tuner, you're paying at least a $1000USD for about 15hp. That doesn't seem too worth it.

    The 73mm throttle body does help with throttle response. I have it with the Airraid cold air intake on my 2012 with 331 gears. Also any thing darker than 25 percent is getting hard to see at night. I have 25 percent and that is plenty dark. I had 35 on an old 2005 Focus I had and it looked good and help when running the AC. I have the mat black 3.7 badges and love them. Have you thought about getting the brake caliper covers. They would look awesome on your Mustang.

    The stock air box is the same snorkel design as the aftermarket. That’s why the grill has several holes on that side for air intake. If anything the OEM filters are garbage and a better filter would be best. Throttle body needs paired with ported intake manifold if you want either to work...high rpm 7500

    For all those with the V6s, how's the reliability for these? I come from a Chevy family and all I heard growing up was that Ford was shit since I was a kid. To be completely honest, I've had way more issues with all the Chevys I've had than other brand. I'm driving a Challenger now and I haven't had any issues but I'd like something a little different.
    I recently found a 2017 Mustang v6 and I'm going to take a look at it later for around 18k. Anything I should look out for?

    • @jltgp6703
      @jltgp6703 Před 4 lety +5

      I only have 33,000 miles on my 2016 V6 but I’ve had zero issues so far (knock on wood). Funny I have a friend who works at a Chevy dealer and even he drives a 2016 mustang V6 as his personal car. What does that tell you? He said that Chevy vehicles are absolute crap. There’s a reason why the Camaro was discontinued from 03-09 and the mustang has been going strong for 55 years 💪
      Side note: if you are like me and can’t afford a GT, go with a V6. Don’t even consider an Ecoboost. The V6 has SO much more potential regarding sound, performance and reliability. Ford tries to push the Ecoboost because of its better gas mileage and premium interior but it’s not worth it. Eventually you WILL get bored of the sound and there’s absolutely nothing you can do to make a 4 cylinder sound good. Just my 2 cents

    Your car came stock with cold air intake. When you take the factory airbox out look at where the snorkel goes, it breathes straight through the grill next to the driver side headlight.That’s cold air. Put it on a dyno before and after and there will be zero detectable difference.
    It probably breathes a little easier but when you increase the intake area you decrease the air speed and you lose low end torque. That’s what happens when you use a bigger throttle body as well, you’ll get a little more horsepower way up in the RPM range but you will lose low end torque because you’ve slowed down the airflow. That’s noticeable under your foot in every day driving conditions with this car.
    Low end torque is way more desirable than a little bit of a 10th of a second at the dragstrip.
    I have a BBK throttle body for sale if anyone wants it. :-)
