  • What a great time we had talking with Roller Derby legend Judy Arnold on the Philly Pressbox Radio Roundtable back in 2016! Some highlights: Judy reflects on her years with the Philadelphia/Eastern Warriors, talks about working as Raquel Welch's body double in the 1972 movie "Kansas City Bomber," and goes on one more "two-minute jam," answering some rapid-fire questions about her career and some of her fellow skaters. Judy's visit to Philly Pressbox Radio was one of our most-popular episodes ever!

Pretty Judy Arnold, Eastern Philadelphia Warriors, with Elmer Anderson announcing and Buddy Atkinson, Richard Brown, Jim Trotter, Vinnie Gandolfo and the rest of the scarlet and white wheeled warriors. Boy do I miss good skating. Not only the antics, but damn good skating.

Saludos.

In her younger days, she looked a lot like Tonette "Call Me the Body" Kadramas!

Muy buena y ruda patinadora, era muy estratégica e inteligente, para mi la segunda mejor patinadora después de Arnold.

Interviewers kept saying Roller Derby and she would correctly say roller games.
I hated roller games and always tired of no one making the distinction.
In Chicago the Thunderbirds were shown instead of Warriors, maybe the Warriors were less stupid, I don’t know.

Honestly agree with you. Wished Judy Arnold corrected made the distinction or clarified both. Now in fairness in San Francisco we did get the Warriors briefly on a UHF Station before yes the Thunderbirds. @ least earlier broadcasts it honestly as bad as say the T Birds games. Then too come 1972 there wasn't much difference sadly. Games had some great skaters. Some like Judy Arnold too started their careers with Roller Derby. I will give them that. Then past that yes Games was far inferior in terms of their presentation of the banked track game. @ least Roller Derby didn't take as many liberties & resembled a sport more so without story lines.
