I'm watching this knowing damn well im never gonna make this.
It's a waste of money, the plywood is very expensive.
@@ryansreaction I... definitely will.
mm probably the same!lol!
U can dream about it like 99.999 percent of viewers
Yo at 6:29, anyone else see that one drop of glue fly out and land at the end of the plank. Theres literally no point to this just curious if theres anyone else out there that have the sixth sense
As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement czcams.com/users/postUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!
The fast food of woodworking.
Requires only 4 Basic tools + Good level of carpentry skills + LOT OF LABOUR 👍👍
Love, LOve, LOVE! The side table ledges are magical. That bedroom setup is so you.
Ben, thank you for showing us this bed. I built the bed for my son. It is a twin-XL size. Once I am ready, I’ll build a king-size for myself. Wonderful approach!
Ah, the shin splitter style of bed. Notice the smooth modern lines, clean aesthetics, and the ability to split your shins in half.
Seriously though it looks nice.
My thoughts exactly, lol but a nice build though
I have a bed almost exactly like this and have only hit my shins on it a time or two. You get used to the position of the bed, and learn to avoid whacking your legs on it.
@@LongBoy.0 what about the occasional visitors who use the bed?
@@orixa2122 There's 1 consistent visitor, it's not an issue.
What a fanctastic design, I'm a big fan of plywood and this is a great example of why. As you said you could modify this in a number of ways, I think a live edge headboard would be awesome too.
If you wanted to create an different finish you could veneer whatever you wanted on top of that ply and trim it so you don't see the ply layers.
My word that's a beautiful room you showed at the end. The style of the furniture is really sleek and modern, and the floor and walls compliment it perfectly. I really like the aesthetic overall.
@brdn mr I don't know that to tell you man, people have different tastes. I've always been incredibly minimalist in terms of decorations and furnishings in my bedroom. Even at university people always asked me why I didn't have things hanging all over the walls, I just don't like how it looks. Simple, clean, and sleek, the only thing I would add to the room is a bookshelf or two.
I’m also a minimalist but that room at the end was trash
I’m aware I’m two years late however- This bed looks AMAZING! I too love building and making things from plywood.
Look very gentle, smooth!
It might not fit the modern design aesthetic but I would cover those plywood edges with pool noodles to protect my shins
agree. 😁
Could use foam tape along the edge so that states with the design your looking for.
Corners need rounded
thats a great idea!!
or you could just grow a pair to cushion the impact
Holy moly. This is merchandising done right. Well done, sir. I don’t need a bed, but all of a sudden, I do....
Yes , just what I need. A bed to gouge my shin on everytime I stumble back from the bathroom in the dark.
Not to mention when you plop down after a hard day and your mattress scoots off your "bedframe"... Love the look of this, but functionally it is flawed...
Also, over-built. Hope this guy never plans on moving. That thing is gonna be a bitch to move without disassembling
That angled headboard is what I have been looking for since forever...it's perfect when reading or watching TV without having extra pillows..
Beautiful. Love the simplicity. Looks elegant
that's a fantastic bed! looks amazing
The built in side tables = GENIUS
so handy!
Completely amazing! How I wish I could do something like this! But I have zero experience with tools. A bed like this will last generations!
I really love the look of this minimalist furniture.
This opens up lots of modification possibilities to fit different room arrangements and space layout needs, well done!!
Man, that is beautiful!!! Dreaming about dreaming on that bed.
Looks terrific and those brackets are genius!!
Beautifully narrated. Beautifully performed 😊.
"in a single weekend" LOL
Love the frame concept. Id like a taller version of the bed just so I could add some more storage underneath though... maybe even a set of hinges at the head board to flip the matress up and check out my storage setup below.
I live in a small space and need underbed storage, too. I just checked the dimensions on both this bed and the underbed storage at IKEA, and most--if not all--will fit with the lowest bracket model. I'm pretty pumped. I'll just make it without the attached side tables.
Oh this bedroom set is awesome!!!
This is so rad Ben. I really dig the legs and the bed!
Looking forward to seeing how that desk was made 😁
It cost more than a desk from walmart, just an FYI
@@sharkparty1027 ye I know, just curious about how he bent the wood the for tray part
I love your style and how you use common hand tools.
Great job!
Simple, stylish, cheap and reliable. Even people underline can afford living in a comfortable apartment thnx to u man
Really great and accessible build as always Ben! Those brackets look awesome too!
Great project! My only worry is that with the slats flush with the sides, when leaning on the headboard the mattress will likely slide towards the end of the bed. I would add frame around the mattress, or drop the slats 2-3 inches below the sides of bed to eliminate this problem
I was thinking the exact same thing
@@johntopham5619 me too lol
Maybe you could use perforated drawer liner under the mattress. I think you can get it in rolls. And it wouldn’t have to be permanent, since it will grip on the wood and the mattress. Put some at the top and bottom of the bed.
Use a an adhesive rubber strip with texture that would hold the mattress in place maybe? 🤔
Truly looks modern ! J'adore !
Add a router in to this mix of tools to put roundovers on all the edges for a more smooth, safer and modern look/finish.
I’m going to build this for my new house and some of the other plywood furniture, I think it looks really cool and can look super expensive if done right by routing the edges and filling all the screw holes.
Would look even better if the headboard and base was one piece of bent plywood.
Those legs are $200. Not including lumber/supplies/tools.
I typically just find a used wood boxspring, strip it down to the bare wood frame, sanitize, and screw a half inch plywood sheet on top. Nearly free. Can be raised on a normal metal bed frame, or prop on cinderblocks for a few bucks (just run 2x4s along the sides for added support).
Good idea !!
Yeah, of course anyone can do that for free but it looks normal, tasteless and lacks any personality or design intent. This project was not created to be the cheapest bed frame out there, it's designed to be an authentically minimal bed frame to reflect a personal approach to room-decorating.
Corey Munn - Uh, that’s a personal problem. My beds always look a bit wild: unusually high to utilize storage space beneath, with cloth around the pillars. Add some imagination and free items can be just as creative and even more personal.
lol soundsbadman
200$ - Ouch!
Great bed! The original design!
Everything in that room looks so good
The side table is really cool, I know that I would knock everything off of it though 😄
My cats would every chance they could.
Very cool! I was in the market myself for a real solid wood bed frame, when I saw they were starting at $600 for anything of decent quality I decided to make my own. It was fun and cost 1/4 using good quality lumber. I honestly like your design better tho 😂
love your video man, I'm cultivating a hubby in furniture making. Its great to be able to understand how you went about your setup.
Thanks for including other options. Great job.
Ben - you should totally say that you are the founder of semi exact. Totally would support you just because of that. Top stuff man.
yes but not a founder just an investor
@@HomeMadeModern Oh gosh - I read Founder, HomeMadeModern - thinking Founder of semi exact as well as the guy behind HomeMadeModern. Apologies.
How do I get it out of the garage and into the bedroom? Update: i turned my garage into my bedroom.
Lol
Very neat - especially the tables and angled headboard.
Wow! cool looking bed!
WOW!
Thank youtube lords for recommending this 🥺
Beautiful design. Excellent video. Thanks!!
Wow! Great video and the bed turned out so nice!
Here on time today
mmmm, this looks like such a tasty upgrade to my current homemade bed that I threw together angrily in 11th grade, I think I will give this a try with a fe modifications to save my shins...
Great build! Will definately be trying this for my next project! Thank you!
JUST...... AWESOME. BIG THANKS & 1 million likes 👍
looks beautiful. but, does the mattress not slip when getting yourself into a 'reading' position? thank you for the video
I was having the same doubt! I feel like a stopper by the foot of the mattress would be a good and quick solution, or actually positioning the under-matress slates under the frame (screwed on and secured, which would also mean way more work) to create a depression for the matress to sit in and not move around
Im sure it will slip off in other positions too :P
god damn this guy works fasts.. I can't keep up
Boy...Congrats 👍 you are so skilled.
This is a really cool project and video series you’re putting together, nice one!
Imagine walking into the sharp corner in the dark.
Mattress will slip away easily due to no motion restrictions in right, left and legs side.
You only write that to make it sound like you're ferocious in bed.
I totally agree. Even if there is material that provide friction. The mattress will still walk away especially using the headboard to read or using your computing devices.
my first thought lol that mattress gonna slide...and the pillows will fall in that gap over the headboard..no thanks on this one lol
Am I ever going to make one? No. Am I watching the whole video? Of course!
Really nice build, I love the built in side tables
I was gonna make this then I saw the legs alone were 175 really!? I might as well just buy a bed frame at that price lol
you can make your own legs too ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
dont forget the $500+ on tools
At least those recycled, isn´t LMAOOO, Shesh! TF!
@Peter Tarentaal Lucky you... here it would be at least 500 and for wood, legs and varnish at least 400 more. For that kind of money I can buy top quality fished product :)
@@rachel4555 What type of steel is used
(thicknesses of steel)
Where can I find the buy list for this bed?
Hi, Homemademodern Team looks amazing. Thanks for sharing with us. I’m interesting the steel legs. Thanks
Amazing! Absolutely love this... thank you so much for sharing
I would just like to say that just by looking at the thumbnail image on this video, I now have bruises on my shins.
For others who have tried it, does the mattress slide toward the foot when you are at a full reclined/sitting position? Is an additional piece of wood towards the foot of the bed necessary to keep the mattress in place?
A really easy fix is to stick some velcro to the frame to line up with the mattress. You don't have to have velcro on the mattress as well. The rough side should provide a lot of friction against most fabrics.
Wow!! That bed is fire🔥👍
Sturdy is an under statement... That bed could withstand allot of bedtime fun.
Увидел, как он прыгает на кровать и зелёные инструменты! Всё, Я хочу такие же)))

Это Риоби у ниего все инструменты. У Гринворкс похожий дизайн и его полегче у нас найти, я пользуюсь и не жалуюсь пока.
I can imagine how heavy that bed is.
It's fairly heavy yeah. Floyd bed frame is a similar style but they use honeycombed plywood so that it's lighter. Unfortunately honeycombed plywood isn't easy to find (hardware stores don't sell it, has to be specially made and ordered in bulk).
Great design, thanks! (I think I'm going to go for a hinged version for our tri-fold mattress.)
I love the desk so much!

Needs some neon LED lighting underneath 😂
Excellent video. Would love to see this bed with an LED strip underneath the bed. Very cool.
Bro this was awesome I saved this video, subbed to the channel and I'm gonna do this myself as I just moved to a new place. Such a cool and simple looking style, I love it and it's game on!
Think I would lose the side table and use anti slip Matt on the slats to stop the mattress slipping.
That was my question.
Ikea calls this the Plyäng Bed
I pretty much like everything about this video. Very well done
That's so simple and beautiful
I can already imagine destroying ones knees on sharp corners of the frame...
Why knees? The frame is way below the knee level.
and she'll hate that too...
Lol how? This looks pretty safe?
@@razrxo on sharp corners of the frame
I think you meant shins. But yeah, agreed.
Its just me or i feel like this bed is heavy 😁
Yeah don’t try and take it camping
The bed sells with the house! 🤣
Beds are never supposed to be light weight
How cooooollllll .....a bed that CONSTANTLY needs to be put back in place....
Nice work this is cool! Thanks for taking the time to make to share!
Has anyone actually made this, or are we all just lazily watching this ?
yep- nothing on my 900 channels cable package
They’d rather go get some cheap pos bed frame from IKEA lol.
why would I waste money on glue and hours of glueing wood together if Im gonna use screws 2 minutes later, its not only a total waste of money and time it also makes the bed undetachable. So no I´d rather build actually useful things
$362 metal legs?? Lol what a scam.
Yep $340 margin .. is cheaper to buy w bed frame off Wayfair
You also need $362 worth of tools, might as well not do diy either. 😂
You and the others are comparing apples to oranges: Ben's pieces are made custom while Chinese manufacturers would need a certain volume in order to hit the price point to meet your price point which isn't going to happen. Having worked in manufacturing in China I have come up with a phrase that fits your thinking: "Ignorance is never becoming".
Please don't impune Ben's integrity.
@@really2345 CZcams comment sections have allot of experts. There’s a saying from a wise scholar that said,”I never debated with a knowledgeable person except that I won the debate, and I have never debated with an ignorant person except that I lost.”
you don’t have to buy those metal parts
Fantastic build and video!
So glad I found your channel!
What was final cost ???
how do you keep mattress in place I don’t think this is best you could have done
Well if I had to guess around 300-350 the leg system is 199$ but you can 40 bucks off with his code and it looks like he used 2 or 3 sheets of high quality ply that's about 50 a pop plus 2x6 and screws think 300-350 is a fair estimate
I really applaud the american made / recycled focus. More americans need to secure the wealth of this nation (so it grows) versus selling it away.
Awesome .
As side table concept and steel angles look stylish ..
Your shin will thank you for the modern design. I like the desk and shelf though...
I wonder how sturdy this is and how it handles two people, if you know what I mean lol
designed to withstand 600lbs of aggressive wrestling
🤣
I mean, you'd be saving money by doing this if you lived in 2019
It's funny to think that this is now the most expensive bed on the market lmao
Love the design and the tools and materials used for the bed itself.
👏👏👏Thank YOU! I will be making that desk 🤗
Not really good, the mattress will slip and you always need to reposition it. Btw, good looking design :)
