Simple DIY Lounge Sofa Made With Plywood and Twin Size Mattress

  • To make the most of the quarantine orders in California, we decided to make a DIY lounge sofa so we can properly binge watch Netflix when we're not supposed to be working from home.
    Using only five sheets of plywood, a twin sized mattress and a few large pillows from IKEA, we were able to make this couch over the weekend.
    This sofa fits perfectly in our living room and when we have guests over, we can simply convert it into another guest bed. It looks great, seats us comfortably, and doubles as a daybed!
    We used our CNC to cut the back spines, but it can be easily replicated with a jigsaw. Dimensions are available on our website at: imeemade.com/blog/loungesofa
    TOOLS WE USED:
    Drill and Driver set: amzn.to/2xzHyZY
    2.5" Screws: amzn.to/2z7Rf2f
    Wood Glue: amzn.to/2XCUvNf
    Spring Clamps: amzn.to/2XFCo9n
    Water Based Polyurethane: amzn.to/3cnE3V5
    Felt Feet: amzn.to/3cgbfOq

    • @IMEEMADE
      @IMEEMADE  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks for watching! The only thing we would change is making the back rest a few inches taller. Otherwise everything is exactly how we want it. We ended up putting a non slip pad similar to drawer liners underneath the matress to keep it from moving around

      @@hendrasaut4173 Oh haha, yes we were calling that piece the "spine" its about 21in x 11in (533mm x 279mm) and the angle is 15*. The most important dimension was the back rest angle of 15* which we find to be the most comfortable.

    Why double the 3/4" plywood on the seat of the couch? One sheet is rated for 80 lbs per sq ft which should be plenty I would think. Just curious what the logic was behind that and if it wasn't necessary, maybe it could be built for even less cost?

    • @IMEEMADE
      @IMEEMADE  Před 2 lety

      Our only concern at the time was the possibility of sagging over time. You can definitely use 1 sheet of 3/4" plywood and it would be fine.

      Thanks! Totally understandable. The back support design is simple enough to cut out with a jigsaw or handsaw. We should have definitely made that more apparent or at least showed how to make one of them by hand for other DIYers
