Important to note Richard Harris developed this plan to help rescue the boys. He’s both a very experienced anaesthetist and cave diver. Absolutely incredible rescue and they are all very lucky to have this help.
The last boy stayed awake and had to stay calm to be pulled out like this. It was a 6 hour dive btw. Very serious and dangerous circumstances. They called in navy seals and volunteer professional divers (one of which who passed) to save the boys and coach. They expected high casualties, but all 13 boys lived and the coach. The one hero volunteer diver did panic underwater from losing his oxygen mask and likely hit his head, causing his death. High water level, tight extremely right tunnels, and very low visibility. They were tied to a medical board of some sort, not carried by hand, and pass thru to the next diver at each underwater site. The anesthesia had to be measured specifically because of the conditions. The boys were already suffering from low oxygen and they had to stay conscious to breathe with their mask on while they were transported thru. At each above water site their vitals were taken before going back under the next cave. So everything was very detailed and risky. The movie on this was really well done too.
Ah yes. The rescue attempt that Elon tried desperately to make all about himself. And finally, settling on calling the lead diver a pedophile after getting called out on his bs.

I had to read this and summarize it in ELA once. At the end we spent 2 class periods watching the movie. I remember crying because it must’ve been so hard for the families. Im so glad all the boys made it out safe❤.
That's not all, those diving masks had to be made specially fit to be able to work properly; the people of the town also offered to help by building drains in the side of the mountain to start decreasing the water level so the mission would be easier. One of the only reasons the boys lasted so long in the cave is because their soccer coach that was with them was also a monk. The story of this rescue mission is actually really interesting. There's a book written about it called All 13, not a long read, too.
So don’t trust monks at all then. A monk led 13 children into a 2 mile cave nearly ending all their lives. And actually did end up killing a diver in the process! 😂 how smart calm and spiritual that man must be
I still remember my mom prayed everyday for them. They were stuck for several days without food. And even when their way to be rescued is also a big deal. The rescuers still couldn't save them when they had reached to them. They gave them their flash light and a promise to save them. After a day or two, once everything is prepared for the rescue, they saved them and everyone got the relief.
I remember watching the news with my grandmother and praying for them. I hope no one ever gets into this situation again. RIP to the person who died trying to help those boys.
I’ve seen a lot of people confused about my comment so I edited it to clarify. There was an assistant coach because the people trapped were the coach, and it’s students. However the coach noticed one of the kids were upset so he decided to go on a trip for everyone at the cave. The weather was not looking good and before they realized it, the cave was flooded. The coach ordered every kid to be calm and ration their food supplies until before the rescue team comes to save them.

@@rorycook861 Yeah, his name was former Sergeant Saman Kunan, he was responsible for delivering the oxygen tanks to the cave but he unfortunately ran out of air while underwater. Another Thai navy seal also passed away a few days later from an infection he got from the operation. His name was Sergeant Major Beirut Pakbara.
I remember watching this on the TV. At the time, I was in Ethiopia visiting my family and not having anything to do, I remember turning on the TV and watching this news story with my brother and grandpa everyday. It's something I'll never forget.
And yet that stupid failure Elon gave no respect. Instead called one of the rescuers a pedo and tried to use the whole incident as a PR move by suggesting a stupid submarine
I remember following this story, I did not know that’s how they got them out. How smart to be honest! Can’t panic or get lost if you’re unconscious and it’ll be easier to drag you out with a mask on dead weight than to have to come back to the surface without my new buddy. I assumed they made them hold hands through the tight spaces but it’s so sad someone died trying to save them.
There was a movie out of this and I watched it. I dont think I ever want to go to a cave ever again. It took them, if I remember correctly 8 hours to get to them and another 8 hours to go back.
As a Thai person, I remember that when this incident happened it was almost a daily national agenda. There are updates on the situation almost every hour. Thanks to the rescue team who worked like superheroes even though I was just watching at home, I am grateful to them to this day❤
I'm actually a little curious, were Thai people mad at Elon Musk for showing up and trying to pull a pr stunt, and then insulting the diver that was trying to save the kids? I remember it blowing up in the US but I was curious if Thai people even cared enough about him to be angry.
This was that soccer team, right? I remember this was all over the news in Hong Kong too. I have since learned a lot more as an adult about how extreme and dangerous cave diving is. The fatality rate is something insane
Im from Thailand and As I heard from the news I think that those boys were actually a football team name Mu Pah academy and now They weren't actually exploring the cave but As they all we're going home a very heavy rain storm occurs and those boys ran into the cave just to wait for the storm to be gone but as they wait longer water starts to fill the cave entrance until its completely flooded and they just went deeper into the cave since they thought that water would Be gone by a few hours but it never did now as they are stuck in there for a few days the rescue teams Tried their best to rescue them (The position where the boys are in is not likely possible to rescue) but these Rescuers are a very smart genius and they managed to helped them out. Respect to who lost their lives during this mission🕊❤️
I’m sorry to object but I’m sure that’s wrong. My climbing coach is also one of the rescuer… after interrogating them, they confessed that it was the birthday of one of their members, and that they went in the cave for a dare… the agent that died was the head captain of the rescue team. He died because of diving tiredness.
without these extraordinary men, we are rescued. Big salute to these Heroes. they are gods, probably better than the gods we knew. To those who refuse, show me where your god was when we needed him in these calamities.
it... what? they werent vacationing there, these divers got flown there by search and rescue teams from their respective countries, as did the expert anesthesiologist, they had ro be requested because local search and rescue was not skilled enough to get down there. i remember following this closely because it was one topic of interest in college. idk what the fuck you were smoking but you need to quit, that shits gonna kill you dawg
it should also be noted there are divers and cave rescue specialists who are readily on-call for rescue expeditions all the time, they do their day jobs, but are on a registry of rescue operations teams for all S&R to call when a situation they are certified and specialized in is presented. i know someone who is a rescue diver and his day job is a fucking forklift operator at a hardware store, he's only been called a few times, but he has all the licensure and rescue certification he needs.
what..? They were footballers and the divers weren't vacationing there (as pointed out by Nicholas). They were sent there by different countries to rescue them. Other countries sent help like pipes, drills, etc.
For people who didnt know one of the boys head was too small for the face masks so they had to make custom. Another thing! The reason the cave was hard to navigate was because the cave branched into two paths. Final thing, these four kids were part of a soccer team and their chaoch had taken them there.
@@theapothicon2711Does your brain actually work that way? You think the plan they came up with was just for kicks? Trying something new just for the hell of it? Or do you think this was the last resort?
@@jakeman025 thats not what i said, i was just assuming that it would be easier if the boys put on diving masks and followed the rescuers instead of them having to drag the boys out. I didnt know that they panicked.
they even made a movie about. I would literally have a panic attack just 10 minutes in and if I remember it right they dived for almost 12 hours (I don’t remember so correct me if it was wrong)
reason for the sedative: Air supply is a limited and precious resource when underwater caving. In addition it has been shown that divers undergoing a panic attack feel like they are drowning, and either attempt to take their regulator off or it gets knocked off, causing them to instantly drown.
I remember watching the entirety of the documentary that was made of this. It was so tragic that one of the rescuers ended up passing away… I really recommend watching this if you want to know how dangerous it is to explore caves during a wet season.
they weren't exploring the cave, they were hiding in the cave after their soccer practice (or game) from the rain because it was raining hard. The water would push them back all the way to the end of the cave.
Finally Zack didn't Traumarize anyone. This is the Zack we know and love. Edit: Omg tysm I did not expect over a 800 likes in one day 🎉 Edit2: Mum im famouss!!! 🎉
I remember watching an afterwards documentary about it, and the divers wore cameras throughout the mazes. It was really cool to watch but peace to the guy that died.
Also most dangerous part about giving them anesthesia was that this was never tried before in history nor thought of the idea. Cool work and the love for humanity was truly displayed in this rescue mission.
@@TheMeowtrix I'd imagine its easier to transport someone who is not stressed out and out stone cold than an inexperienced teenager whose been trapped in a cave for 10 days. Also, imagine how rapidly they would be breathing, its so much easier for everyone.
@@TheMeowtrixits very common for a panicked divers to flail and lash out grabbing anything they can, this can kill someone as well as yourself. It was a 6 hour dive from where the kids were to the entrance. With 0 diving experience and also being kids, it was highly likely, almost guaranteed that they would have panicked and died and the odds of them killing their rescuer was also high.
i’ve seen this movie… the group of boys were boys from a soccer team and they went to this cave that’s often explored by the locals and tourists cause ppl go there to worship some shrine. then it like started pouring rain and the water from like the top of the mountain or something was leaking into the cave flooding them in. it was a pretty good movie but i don’t even remember the name
i cannot think why it was better to take an unconscious body over a conscious one which would require lesser energy since they can swim by themselves...ofc there must be a good reason to it they're professionals..n i would love if someone explains it to me

Are you telling me monks also learn survival training.

That’s the book about it and there is lots of movies that are really good about it
God bless the rescuer who died in his attempt. May his soul achieve eternal rest and peace, thank you...
If I remember correctly, the diver was posthumously awarded ‘Australian of the Year’.
He was a Thai navy seal. Not sure if they can win Australian of the year. Maybe though.
Just an FYI that both of the Australian divers (Craig Challen and Richard Harris) who recieved that award are still alive thus they didn't recieve the award "posthumously"

This was actually made into a movie named "13 lives". I would 100% recommend, great movie

Based on a true story…
Not all heros wear cape. Huge respect the the rescuers and all the people involved in the mission ❤
Not all cape wear heros. Respect the rescuers the and people the all involded mission in the Huge.
Not all heroes wear capes, but they sometimes does cave diving (2 people involved are actually cave diving masters)
Some wear gas masks.....
And yet that stupid failure Elon gave no respect. Instead called one of the rescuers a pedo and tried to use the whole incident as a PR move by suggesting a stupid submarine
the cape would get wet
I was playing with toys hearing the news at the TV, I thought it happened in our country but turned out to be broadcasted worldwide (probably)...
The worst part is they had no idea if anyone knew they were trapped until they actually got there.
I still remember this all over the internet!! The rescuers were such heroes!
There was a movie out of this and I watched it. I dont think I ever want to go to a cave ever again. It took them, if I remember correctly 8 hours to get to them and another 8 hours to go back.

I'm actually a little curious, were Thai people mad at Elon Musk for showing up and trying to pull a pr stunt, and then insulting the diver that was trying to save the kids? I remember it blowing up in the US but I was curious if Thai people even cared enough about him to be angry.
I remember the incident. It was often mentioned over here in the US as well. Plenty of people had their eyes on the situation from across the globe.

That diver, that didn't survive, really made the ultimate sacrifice for them.
without these extraordinary men, we are rescued. Big salute to these Heroes. they are gods, probably better than the gods we knew. To those who refuse, show me where your god was when we needed him in these calamities.
The fact that it just happened that there were cave diving experts on vacation there and they also knew that experienced cave diver anaesthesiologist
it... what?
they werent vacationing there, these divers got flown there by search and rescue teams from their respective countries, as did the expert anesthesiologist, they had ro be requested because local search and rescue was not skilled enough to get down there. i remember following this closely because it was one topic of interest in college.
idk what the fuck you were smoking but you need to quit, that shits gonna kill you dawg
it should also be noted there are divers and cave rescue specialists who are readily on-call for rescue expeditions all the time, they do their day jobs, but are on a registry of rescue operations teams for all S&R to call when a situation they are certified and specialized in is presented.
i know someone who is a rescue diver and his day job is a fucking forklift operator at a hardware store, he's only been called a few times, but he has all the licensure and rescue certification he needs.

12 kids and 1 coach
Why did the not just follow the rescuers instead of having to be knocked out and dragged out? Wouldnt it be a lot easier?

they even made a movie about. I would literally have a panic attack just 10 minutes in and if I remember it right they dived for almost 12 hours (I don’t remember so correct me if it was wrong)

rest in peace rescuers 🕊 fly high
@@TheGreatMacoronie uh.. excuse me?
reason for the sedative:
Air supply is a limited and precious resource when underwater caving. In addition it has been shown that divers undergoing a panic attack feel like they are drowning, and either attempt to take their regulator off or it gets knocked off, causing them to instantly drown.
I remember watching the entirety of the documentary that was made of this. It was so tragic that one of the rescuers ended up passing away…
I really recommend watching this if you want to know how dangerous it is to explore caves during a wet season.

@@TheMeowtrixcus they were not divers. They just couldnt dive

@@TheMeowtrixits very common for a panicked divers to flail and lash out grabbing anything they can, this can kill someone as well as yourself.
