How many talon clip-on igniters can you fire on a 4 cue firing system?

  • In this video I am looking at a cheap and basic (but popular) 4 cue fireworks firing system which I got from Ebay to see:
    1. How many talon (clip-on) consumer igniters you can fire on each cue.
    2. How long you can extend them for before they fail to ignite (for example to run out to a firework some distance from your unit).
It turns out it's a bit more complicated than this, as the number depends on how long you extend! I also tried the unit after putting the batteries in the fridge at 4C for 2 hours, to simulate UK winter conditions where firing systems are often out on the lawn for a few hours, to see if this had any impact (not a detailed test of this, but rather just out of curiosity).
    Notes:
    1. This is a test using only clip-on consumer talon igniters, I am not testing standard ematch igniters here (that's for another day).
    2. I am using some spare test fuse rather than actual fireworks.
    3. Your results may vary - battery health, battery brand, ambient weather conditions, firing system brand, igniter brand and bell wire brand (and resistance) can all affect results, you may get better or worse results, but I hope this video gives some useful pointers as to what to avoid doing!
