Ematch igniter test - variation in power and burn times

  • In this video I am testing unbranded ematches (orange/red shroud, orange wire, dark black match head, unknown country of manufacture) in isolation and at 120fps to see if there is any variation in their flame size, power and burn time.
The background to this test is failures to light visco fuse; or more specifically, in some cases the ematches have lit it no problem, at other times it has really struggled. It is almost as if the ematches themselves are variable in performance with the worst ones not being up to the job.
Note: These tests are to see if there's variation in flame power, not tests to see if they reliably ignite. All of my ematches (and that's a lot!) fired so far in testing have fired OK. As I say in this video, these tests are less relevant to professionals using ematches to light quickmatch, lifting charge or other explosive materials, since any flame of any size is good enough. But for lighting visco, a flame of sufficient power is needed.
