11:10 Walk around the shell and parts
The Mini Madgwick is a bespoke built-to-order road Mini inspired by the Swiftune Cooper S racers. Fitted with a 110 BHP engine and twin SU-Carburettors, making for a very lively drive!
“Like a Mini Cooper S, Only better!” Octane magazine 2017
The impeccably assembled Madgwick named after the famously challenging first corner at the Goodwood Motor Circuit the “happy hunting ground” of some giant slaying moments for Nick Swift in the works Swiftune FIA Mini.
All Mini Madgwick’s are bespoke built to customers’ requirements ensuring that you really do have the most unique and exclusive Mini that suits you. We prefer to use original BMC body colours but are always open to suggestions. The choices for engine characteristics range from a smooth high torque output that is more suited to “in-town” use or an increased spec suited to the open road for the more “spirited” drive. Interior and trim are based on the original Cooper Brocade and high back seats but can be bespoke too. The Madgwick standard features are classic race door mirrors, leather bonnet straps, rose petal wheels, lowered ride height, all replicating our historic race cars. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Only problem with the car is, it makes you want one! 😂😂👍🚗I wish I'd have bought one years ago.
Wow even as it sits now it’s a thing of beauty. I can’t wait to see it being brought to life.
isn't it just. Same here! 😂 It's a bit weird having a car built for me !
Woo good, looking forward to this one 😀
Thanks for tuning in! 😎
Hi Mark, well I too haven't heard of a madgewick but look forward with intregue to the following episodes! Great stuff, shell looks ace in old English white /black roof... Cool😎
cheers. A bit different to what we normally do, but sharing this and raising awareness is needed. I agree, the best colour combination for a Mk1. 😎
Blimey mark, you kept that quiet, can't wait to see the rest of this series, it'll be a stunning car.
It was really tough not to! 😎
Looking good so far, how did you manage to hide it from us for 18 months? I don’t remember even catching a glimpse of it.
Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave 👍😎🏴
Great project. Wrap it like project Binky to avoid damaging the shell.
😂 It's probably better that i'm not building it as i'd guarantee i'd do something to it. 😂
Fantastic project; really looking forward to seeing the progress and upcoming videos 👍. Well done, great content.
Thank you Mark! Thanks for tuning in and commenting.😎
Looking forward to seeing this take shape mate 👍
Cheers Alex! 😎
hi Mark looking forward to watching this project build After keeping it a secret for a year lol
My naughty secret is out lol. Well done for keeping not to yourself!
Hiya Mark-never heard of a Madgwick before, but look forward to watching it progress. Hope you and Lucy and family are well.
Thats what i like about them, there aren't many so they'll always be a rarer MK1. All good thanks Dave, hope you're well too! 😎
Blimey Mark that is some bodyshell you found there. Stunning job and bang on the right colours. And the Madgewick is a cracking conversion.
OCD moment though @ 13:03. That is a Remote Change not a Rod Change Gearbox. Best one for performance Minis IMHO. Straight cut maybe?
Fair play over the interior as well. I don't pay much attention to the 'purists' who seem to think they know how we should all do the job. Most haven't ever picked up a spanner. I used to get all the 'experts' at bike shows passing comments when I restored and showed old British iron. Still won awards though!
Newton are only 12 miles down the road from me and they really are the best there is. I hope to have a very expensive visit there later this year... 😳
Thanks Chris, the panel work is very good! I realised the error after i recorded it, but yes, i meant remote. 😅 Im still learning all the terminology, but will get there eventually. I'm not going straight cut as i don't want it too whiney.
The beauty with the madgwick is i can go a bit out there and doesn't matter, but some parts i have tried to keep within the realms of the year of the car.
I have a friend who buys a lot from Newton so managed to get me about £500 off the full price. It's the same guy who's been helping me with the parts. Very nice guy and has a Hooper and a Radford.
@@markdraper7 You got a right result with Newton kit then. 👍👌
Just a thought on that gearbox: if you want the gearchange to bias between 3rd and 4th there is a nice conversion we used to do where you can add a coil spring to one of the internal selector rods. Not a big job either especially if its all coming apart anyway.
Hoopers was where Bill Wood and Les Pickett learnt the Coach building trade and they later became the most well known of all the top end Mini converters with cars like the 'Wood & Pickett Margrave'.
The word Radford brought back memories of my 'Misspent Yoof' playing in bands. For 6 months I worked with Gerry Dorsey (later Englebert Humperdinck) who had a small flat over Times Furnishing in King Street Hammersmith and me and the guitarist would wander down to Radfords and think 'Maybe one day ...'
Never got a Radford but I did buy a Van Den Plas Princess Rolls 4 litre ...😳
You and Lucy are simply AMAZING!! Y'all keep finding the the rare ones.. top class all the way.. Hat's off and I'm excited to watch this. Had no clue about the Madgwick. Yours looks in great shape already..... Come on man.. where did you find it, history on "Madgwick"? One day I would like to come visit your incredible collection.. You're the Jay Leno of Minis..
😂 Thanks Randy. Not many people know about them and this was part of the point of doing this series, even though i'm not building it, just awareness.
So, the car isn't a Madgwick yet, Swiftune usually take an 850 or Deluxe or Super Deluxe, strip them down, do the panel work, spray them, then add in a Historic Swiftune engine and badge them as a Madgwick. I'll send you a link that explains it better.
One day i'd love for you to visit the Draper Motor Museum. You will always be welcome! 😎
looks good, the freedom to create your own vision of the perfect mk1, whats not to like?
If that's your clubman, it looks fantastic. 👍👍👍
Mark did you give up on the MK3?........I recall the shell was a mess but it wasn't clear if you where going to get it over the finish line🤔
oh no mate, i never give up! I'm still waiting for the S floor from M-machine. The Mk3 Cooper series will start up again in October now as we are doing various shows and events and enjoying some freedom. 😎
@@markdraper7 Excellent
Hi Mark, the shell looks like a new car, beautiful. Is the Mini Madgwick a Swifttune product? Looking forward to this new project of yours. Cheers, Midge
Hey Midge, yes, it's had a few panels replaced but they did well on the lines and gaps. The Madgwick was Glynn Swift's idea and he built the first two and was named after the corner at Goodwood . Sadly he passed away a few years ago and Nick Swift has continued to build them. Thanks for tuning in. 😎
Have you done an update on how that waterless coolant went in your Purple Mini? I couldn't see one at a glance through your videos made since. I'm very curious if it was a good idea or bust. Cheers
Hi, I run waterless coolant in both my MPI Minis and have had no problems. I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference to be honest. Mark also runs waterless coolant in his ERA but he did recently make the mistake of topping up with plain water which can be an expensive mistake as you have to flush it all out and refill costing around £60. I can’t really report back any amazing benefits, however it is nice that it doesn’t pressurise the system which puts less strain on hoses etc.
@@classicminiworkshop Thank you for taking the time to reply, I'm glad to hear it's working. Reviews on it are about as 50/50 as regular coolant.
I've used it in the ERA and can't notice any difference or any problems. The biggest issue is when you forget that you use it and top it up with normal coolant! 🤦🏼♂️ Luckily i had the prep fluid and spare bottle of coolant here as i was going to Himley the next day! I've now written on the normal coolant, 'NOT FOR ERA'. 😂
Im gonna be that guy that asks if you want to sell those old mk1 bumpers that aren't up to your standard?😊
I will be selling them now actually.😂 If you message Keith then he can give you my email and we can chat.😎
I'd would have guessed if I kept trying all day. I need to do some googling as I don't really understand what's going on
Wouldn't
😂 I'll send you a link.
Magwick?? What the hell is Magwick? Never heard of them.
It’s a corner at Goodwood
I thought you knew everything. 😉😂 A Swiftune Madgwick was named after the corner at Goodwood and was an idea by Glynn Swift to build a standard mini into a car better than a cooper s. A Cooper S on Steroids!
@@markdraper7 Hi Mark, wished i knew everything lol. Look forward to the build and what its like at the end. How come you didn't paint it yourself or was that how you found it? Looks great btw. Going to be a quicker build than project Binky pmsl
