Didn't expect it to still be vulnerable after such a long period of recovery, but really good to know!
    I've missed the videos! haha

That’s what I thought as well!
      But it makes sense.
Other than movements in the gym. I haven’t taken the bicep through ranges of motion/speed of reps/duration of playtime since prior to the injury..
Hope all is well with you bro! More vids coming soon 😄

I ruptured mine last weekend sparring and these stories as well as the others regarding nerve damage with the surgery I've decided not to get it done. I saw 3 different surgeons and they said it was option but I would lose some strength but that the high percentages that doctors throw out are based off the general population that dont work out. The coach at my gym and he said there have been a few fighters that also tore the Distal and recovered 90% without surgery. One year off of going through what you did + the chance of nerve damage ... pass

      Hey bro!
Haha I know. I’m sorry! I got caught up with summertime activities and work.
      Im back now though!
Nice to hear from you. Hope you’re doing well!
Let me know what you think of my next video. It’ll be a fun one 😎

Good to see you! Hope your arm is ok!
My arm is feeling great at 7 month post op, back in the gym/boxing and back to full time manual work.
Got a meeting with 2 different surgeons in the coming weeks to find out what they will do with my other arm.
You got no swelling or new retraction so can’t of retore?
I have done a lot of bicep curls and can now do comfy sets of 10 with 15kg.
I also do a lot of reverse curls.

That sounds like an amazing recovery!
Good to hear from you as well my friend!
I feel like there was a period where I over used my arm too fast too soon with all the sports, and it sent me back in terms of recovery..
Back on the upswing now! My next video coming out will be a fun one 🤩

@@Dr.JayDMD glad to hear it mate.
Even though I haven’t done as many different sports as you I was forced to use my arm for many different flexion movements with my work such as tipping wheelbarrows or throwing bales of hay about 😂

Great to see how far you have come along 👌 I think I am about a month behind you so will be at 6 months post op in a week. My arm is feeling great although I haven’t pushed it in the gym for the past month as have gotten lazy as soon as it felt like it was almost back to normal. Mine visually looks a little odd, as the tendon insert bulges a little when supinating (also bicep a little higher than non injured on), which could just be scar tissue I didn’t work on enough, however I have a feeling my tendon may have retracted slightly when I tweaked it at 7 weeks - I have read that although it is fixed with the endo button, if you tweak it, it can essentially cheese wire through the strings attached to the endo button. If this did happen I have a feeling its attached on top of the bone now rather than in it, however I guess I will never know unless it snaps again! Either way it still seems to function fine, with no pain lifting or strength issues. The bicep also moves when supinating etc.
Glad to see your tweak healed its self!

      Hey James!
I was the same way. First couple months we do everything/anything we can to speed up recovery, but once we return to normality we take our foot of the gas and just coast!
Did you ever get that 7 week tweak diagnosed?
Happy to hear your rehab went well!

    • @james-oz1sr
      @james-oz1sr Před 11 měsíci

Haha yeah always the case with me, obsessed with rehab and recovery in early stages but always fail to follow through to the late stage!
Never diagnosed as saw the surgeon the week after who did a visual inspection and said it was fine and felt strong, but never had any scans to confirm - he always just said if it feels fine and is functioning as normal nothing to worry about - however visually i’ve always noticed a difference post tweaking it. I guess if its functioning fine then there shouldn’t be anything to worry about. Time will tell!

Hey Jay! Great to see you’re back. This is such an important msg. I am 12 weeks post op and training well in the gym - full bilateral movements under light-ish load, with progressive overload. It’s been a very rewarding process with training/rehab. I also worked with Dr. John Petrizzo, even from Australia 😊. He was amazing. Sounds like you did similar work to me. I am wanting to get back to sport also very soon, your msg re dynamic work first is so important. Glad you’re well mate.

      Hey Mark!
How are you mate?! Glad to hear Dr. John Petrizzo sent you on the right path as well. He is such a nice guy. I owe my successful recovery to him and his guidance.
Yes, the return to sport confused me as I thought I was completely healed, but it made sense once Dr. P explained it to me.
Very important for people who also have this mindset. Gym can emulate sport, but you still need to take sport slow coming back from this injury!
Hope all is well with you!!

Hey Jay! Thank you so much for your video diary following your bicep tendon rupture. I experienced a lot of pain post injury and post surgery. This seems different to the experience of others. I’m now 7 months post surgery, pain free, but still not back to normal. Gym work is getting back and slowly building weight. Good to hear your story about other sports and so I’m running and taking it easy with other sports.
Keen to know more about the supplements you’re taking. I’m on a high protein diet, taking creatine, zma, multi vitamins, lions mane, ashwagandha and calcium, from Bulk. Is turmeric working for you?

Hey man, great to see your recovery went so well! Thanks for these videos. I tore my dominant arm bicep tendon a month ago, on week 2 of hinged brace and feeling much better.

Have you started with any activity or physio yet?

    • @fuzzyduck456
      @fuzzyduck456 Před rokem

Yeah! He has me doing isometric contractions in flexion and extension with pronation and supination outside of donjoy brace without stretching the tendon too much.
Like yourself, the gym is a must for me so I’ve been back since last week at the 3 week post-surg point, however I have dumbbells at home so was pretty much doing leg and left arm workouts since a day or two after surgery. Active recovery should certainly be promoted more!

Just got my cast off 08/21. I tore my left distal bicep tendon initially 06/05 and had surgery 06/20. Tore it again 06/27 and had my second repair 07/11. Just starting PT. Been catching up on your journey. Very helpful videos.

The first time I was playing basketball. My doctor said I most likely had injured it weightlifting in the past and the basketball just took it out.
The second time I was laying in bed and the splint was digging into my hand so I kinda inserted my finger to kind of loosen it and “pop”. Felt like a rubber band popping. I knew immediately, lol. No pain though.
Trying to play it smart now. I’m one of those people they have to reel in because I’m a busy body. Always playing sports and lifting and running.
