Windows 10 is known to come with a lot of telemetry and other “features” that reduce privacy in order to work as “software as a service”. Thankfully, there’s an effort to ameliorate this…

Win+Tab and Alt+Tab have historically always - or since at least XP as that's as far back as my memory wishes to function - worked slightly differently achieving the same outcome. If it's been a while since he used or paid attention to Switchable Desktop and Gallery Window View of windows, it could just be that he's so defaulted to Alt+Tab - which he did specifically recollect and describe in the video - he had forgotten about the function format of Win+Tab in 10. Older Windows did cycle through with a different method/view and it could be that the crossover with Win 7/8 UI in other areas fuzzed up his memory a bit more.
As with Macs, Android, iOS, microwaves, toasters, and yoyos, There's a lot that Win10 CAN do that I (or anyone) might know or have discovered that it can do, but simply don't use enough to properly recognise or recall. On my Surface Pro, for instance, I custom-set the pen shortcuts but I damn well take 3 tries to get it to do what I want it to every single time. I know I can swipe the sides but rarely do (only testing it just now did I re-realise what left edge swipe is), and I rarely lose something among such a forest of windows to need to Win+Tab (or left edge swipe!) and just bring it all up, nor have I found enough additional convenience outside of specific cases to use switchable desktop.

Back in the day, Hungary was full of "special edition" Windows XP-s. Programmers modified the original Windows XP, they made it way better and they just shared it with everyone. That's how it was back in the early 2000s... Things changed a lot since then. :) I think the other Windows versions had no such modding programmer community, people just loved the XP. I still think that it was the best Windows of all.

If the intended usage for up folder is to cycle the folder then why is there no down folder?
Up folder is relative to the icon itself, the folder icon is in sideway thus getting out means going UP (because imagine we are small people inside the folder).
Nobody organize their real world folders by stacking them up. Also remember that even though you can see your folders stack-up in the directory, that is just your view preference, there are other views configuration so going "up" the folder might not be intuitive to them. Or they might argue that it should be going "right"

    • @LangleyNA
      @LangleyNA Před 3 lety +39

@@MrDrewluna There is only a single direct parent directory, drew luna. There can be any number of sub-directories. The operating system does not choose for us which directory we would descend into. That is our choice. And thus we have no descending directory button - the system cannot know which of the thirty sub-directories you want to descend into.
      D:\MyDir
      MyDir has two sub-directories, D:\MyDir\Sub1 and D:\MyDir\Sub2
The parent directory is clearly the drive root, D: ... that's decisive. There is no alternative. And thus we can always know where the "up-one-directory" control is to direct to.
But with two sub-directories, Sub1 and Sub2, if such a "down-one-directory" button you propose were to exist, where would it take us to? The system does not have your brain. It does not know who you are or how you feel. It cannot accurately, reliably predict this information. And so we do not have such a control in common file management software of the last forty years.

In my experience, to this day, Linux is still kind of a stinking pile of crap that ONLY has the upside of privacy, yet despite that, I'm only ever using it more and more, just because of how much worse Microsoft continually gets.
It's getting to the point where I don't care that Linux can only run about a third of my game library (yes, even with Proton), and half (on a good day) of the other software that I use, or that working with Linux-focused software can be a pain because no one ever documents anything in a remotely useful way, or that the community around it is one of the worst things, just in general. All of those negatives are holding less and less of a candle to Windows forcing you to shutdown, harassing you about upgrading to the only thing worse than Windows 10 (Windows 11), requiring you to sign in with a Microsoft account just to use your computer (you can get around this, if I remember correctly, but it's a convoluted pain in the ass), being a spyware OS from the ground up, running like crap, the search function being almost entirely non-functional, and so on.
Like, Linux has a lot of issues that have been around forever that no one tries to solve, and yet Microsoft is actively running their products so far into the ground that Linux is looking worth using, which is really saying something. If it gets to the point where things like Wine allow me to use ~80% or more of my software, chances are that I won't be touching Windows again.

It's frequently used to create/delete/manage more than one desktop (virtual screens). Only Alt-Tab does the cycling. Once you have pressed Windows-Tab, from there you can cycle through desktops or opened Windows using the arrow keys and then press Enter, or directly select one of them with the mouse. Alt-Tab doesn't show the available desktops for selection, only opened Windows whatever the desktop they're in; however, Windows-Tab *_does not_* show those opened Windows that are on another desktop from the one you were at when pressing Windows-Tab.

I simply couldn't let the dig at Windows Mail fly.
When operating on a high latency internet connection, like satellite in a rural area, using a web browser based email client is painful to say the least. The problem is amplified ten-fold if you have to juggle multiple inboxes.
Web apps are generally unusable on high latency connections, and Windows mail is actually one of the most competent solutions for email.
Edit: For context, I run an office in a rural area. The extra seconds it takes to open an email and switch folders, let alone switch between inboxes, add up extremely fast over the course of a day.

A screensaver is a useful way to tell that your TV is still on, instead of having it show a plain black screen. Why not check the power light on the TV? Because if you have any sense and you enjoy movies, you've already covered up that power light so it won't bug you.
