Windows 10 is known to come with a lot of telemetry and other “features” that reduce privacy in order to work as “software as a service”. Thankfully, there’s an effort to ameliorate this…

windows + tab doesnt cycle between open windows in normal windows 10 either
Yeah lol I just did it and I got confused of why he said that.
@@testing119 He mixed up Alt+Tab with Win+Tab, lol
it did some builds ago
Win+Tab and Alt+Tab have historically always - or since at least XP as that's as far back as my memory wishes to function - worked slightly differently achieving the same outcome. If it's been a while since he used or paid attention to Switchable Desktop and Gallery Window View of windows, it could just be that he's so defaulted to Alt+Tab - which he did specifically recollect and describe in the video - he had forgotten about the function format of Win+Tab in 10. Older Windows did cycle through with a different method/view and it could be that the crossover with Win 7/8 UI in other areas fuzzed up his memory a bit more.
As with Macs, Android, iOS, microwaves, toasters, and yoyos, There's a lot that Win10 CAN do that I (or anyone) might know or have discovered that it can do, but simply don't use enough to properly recognise or recall. On my Surface Pro, for instance, I custom-set the pen shortcuts but I damn well take 3 tries to get it to do what I want it to every single time. I know I can swipe the sides but rarely do (only testing it just now did I re-realise what left edge swipe is), and I rarely lose something among such a forest of windows to need to Win+Tab (or left edge swipe!) and just bring it all up, nor have I found enough additional convenience outside of specific cases to use switchable desktop.
If you use the Arrow Keys you can cycle through the open windows in Win+Tab mode

Back in the day, Hungary was full of "special edition" Windows XP-s. Programmers modified the original Windows XP, they made it way better and they just shared it with everyone. That's how it was back in the early 2000s... Things changed a lot since then. :) I think the other Windows versions had no such modding programmer community, people just loved the XP. I still think that it was the best Windows of all.
Everyone agrees that XP was the best windows version of all. So much so that the United States Legislature forced Microsoft to support it for 10 years longer than they probably would have (14 years in total).
7 had it too.
Windows XP and Windows 2000 removed from the small amount of bloat they had extended with good third party applications was awesome....

Crippling Windows Search is like breaking the fingers on an amputated leg.
Linus: "Up folder means up one folder in the directory structure" - So true and totally worth the swear
Agreed. The simplest solution I've found is to use "Open Folder Location" from the Search Results, which is both in the Right-Click menu and the Explorer Ribbon.
@@trogdorstrngbd you're right, but so unnecessary complicated
If the intended usage for up folder is to cycle the folder then why is there no down folder?
Up folder is relative to the icon itself, the folder icon is in sideway thus getting out means going UP (because imagine we are small people inside the folder).
Nobody organize their real world folders by stacking them up. Also remember that even though you can see your folders stack-up in the directory, that is just your view preference, there are other views configuration so going "up" the folder might not be intuitive to them. Or they might argue that it should be going "right"
@@MrDrewluna There is only a single direct parent directory, drew luna. There can be any number of sub-directories. The operating system does not choose for us which directory we would descend into. That is our choice. And thus we have no descending directory button - the system cannot know which of the thirty sub-directories you want to descend into.
D:\MyDir
MyDir has two sub-directories, D:\MyDir\Sub1 and D:\MyDir\Sub2
The parent directory is clearly the drive root, D: ... that's decisive. There is no alternative. And thus we can always know where the "up-one-directory" control is to direct to.
But with two sub-directories, Sub1 and Sub2, if such a "down-one-directory" button you propose were to exist, where would it take us to? The system does not have your brain. It does not know who you are or how you feel. It cannot accurately, reliably predict this information. And so we do not have such a control in common file management software of the last forty years.
@@LangleyNA if you try and read my comment properly, you will see that that is not the actual point im talking about
The craziest thing to me is how deeply embedded all the telemetry really is.
Even if you drop let's say cortana, there are more telemetry things which are up and running as background services.
And how it affects performance and convenience. Having to wait for MS server when you want to access the C drive is a big, HUGE, issue. Who knows what else is dragged down by the supposed benefits of having Microsoft breathing down your neck.
@@Lambda_Ovine Microsoft is like Joe Biden
why can't we just have a program like glasswire control what information goes out. Like if im just using the browser, Im not letting anything else come through. like tf.
Infinity Drive it’s interesting you mention that. That’s exactly what I do. I think it works pretty well however, there are some system services that require Internet connection for your computer to work correctly on the internet.
After watching this it makes me wonder what those services are doing aside from their advertised purpose. I think what pisses me off the most about this entire thing is that I have to pay for the privilege of being date mined.
It feels like windows is doing most of the legwork to make linux desktops more common
In my experience, to this day, Linux is still kind of a stinking pile of crap that ONLY has the upside of privacy, yet despite that, I'm only ever using it more and more, just because of how much worse Microsoft continually gets.
It's getting to the point where I don't care that Linux can only run about a third of my game library (yes, even with Proton), and half (on a good day) of the other software that I use, or that working with Linux-focused software can be a pain because no one ever documents anything in a remotely useful way, or that the community around it is one of the worst things, just in general. All of those negatives are holding less and less of a candle to Windows forcing you to shutdown, harassing you about upgrading to the only thing worse than Windows 10 (Windows 11), requiring you to sign in with a Microsoft account just to use your computer (you can get around this, if I remember correctly, but it's a convoluted pain in the ass), being a spyware OS from the ground up, running like crap, the search function being almost entirely non-functional, and so on.
Like, Linux has a lot of issues that have been around forever that no one tries to solve, and yet Microsoft is actively running their products so far into the ground that Linux is looking worth using, which is really saying something. If it gets to the point where things like Wine allow me to use ~80% or more of my software, chances are that I won't be touching Windows again.
"Can I summon people just by calling their names?" Yes Mr CEO you absolutely can XD

This video makes me feel like there's finally video proof on a *LOT* of reasons Microsoft should realize Windows needs a _huge_ overhaul to make the background+foreground streamlined. Ground up
Hey, thanks for that information, good clip as there are some things I wasn't really aware of in regards to Win10 privacy (apart from Microsoft's options during the installation process). 7:20 - The original Win10 Windows-Tab *_does not_* cycle through opened windows anyways ;-)... It's frequently used to create/delete/manage more than one desktop (virtual screens). Only Alt-Tab does the cycling. Once you have pressed Windows-Tab, from there you can cycle through desktops or opened Windows using the arrow keys and then press Enter, or directly select one of them with the mouse. Alt-Tab doesn't show the available desktops for selection, only opened Windows whatever the desktop they're in; however, Windows-Tab *_does not_* show those opened Windows that are on another desktop from the one you were at when pressing Windows-Tab.

@@carlosanaya7394 No reason. Windows Mail is a bit slow to open messages, but perfectly operable. I've been using it for about a year without any problems (if a bit of slowness).
Wow, I've never "met" Anthony before -- he was born for CZcams'ing and/or narration...! He's very, VERY well-spoken with a loud, clear voice and, most importantly, he knows what the hell he's talking about..! Moreover, I didn't even catch a single "uhhh", he just knows/knew the answer(s), and then CLEARLY explained them right away... MORE ANTHONY IN FUTURE VIDEOS...!!! (Edit: Fixed typos)
I see Anthony, I click :)
6:22.
I just happened to be at that part of the video when reading your comment
Now listen to this video at 1.25x speed as your normal default for all videos.
He does say "uhh" a lot it's just less obvious than a lot of people.
he doesn't say "uhh" because these videos are all scripted lol
6:05 YES
finally someone speaks out!
Just as I was about to set a screensaver, Anthony hits me with "I think we have evolved past screen savers as a species" and I immediately stop going to my desktop and start watching again... Thanks
Linus: "Speaking of no hassle in your privacy areas!"
Anthony: *Groans*
I lost it lol
Best part for sure! ^^
That was funny.
Me too
That, in and of itself, was worth the cost of admission.
Yeah video ends for me before that because I have sponsor block :D Also skips right past the other stupid crap, like sponsor at the start, dumb intro, and looks the two self promotions during the video
3:38 I'm my grandma's personal tech support, and 99.999999999999999% of her issues are due to her unwillingness to switch from windows mail.
i felt that one
I'm sure your grandma's a real peach and all, but I use Windows Live Mail on Windows 7, and can assure you that I've had no problems....so either her problems are caused by herself....or perhaps Windows 10?
That hit home
That's a lot of 9s

Anthony reaction when Linus starts the transition to Manscaped is priceless
Anthony is the LTT equivalent of Mr. Spock! Logical response every time; way to go bro!
Anthony literally memorized all the stuff about this version of Windows 10 which is honestly pretty cool.
He is the real brain of LTT.
He is a bloody legend 👍
"cool"
Not really, eh
Anthony rocks
He needs a raise
Anthony is as usual just killing it !! 7:18 ... dying here🤣🤣😂😅
You can use WPD app to remove telemetry and do everything that described windows edition does without reinstalling windows
8:20 Anthony is the only employee Linus calls Sir. Even he realizes they're sunk without Anthony.
I am just now trying to remember what they did before Anthony. YOLO comes to mind.
“Ms paint is not spyware” this makes me happy
jspaint.app/ this is also available on GitHub.
It's not spyware and "curiously" is one of the things Microsoft tried to get rid of
@@MegaManNeo jspaint.app/ that's cool but it allows for multi user how does that while being incapable of being spyware. javascript is not exactly a transparent language.
Yay! Can draw a spinning sausage xD
The guy in the background reminds me of my one friend who i can rely on computer questions. Though I'm good at disassembling and assembling computer parts and make it run by myself.
Yes 'Up a Folder' You Tell Em Linus! : ))))
15:55 Anthony will never get over Linus transitions to sponsors
15:56 Anthony's reaction is pure gold
"Windows 10 ameliorated edition straight up removes windows update" All of us in the security industry collectively cringe 😬
Tbh thinking of making a small script that doesn't remove windows update. But does remove Microsoft's ability to reset settings. (they did this because Microsoft tends to have a habit of redoing settings that are disabled so they went with a more heavy handed approach)
worst part about window mail was having to upgrade a ton of PC's to 10, and then everyone and their mother thinks it was outlook. We didn't have a solution for that upon deployment, so plenty of users calling saying they can't get to their mail or some issue related to it.
Linus: "Speaking of no hassle in your privacy areas!"
Anthony: *Groans*
*oh no*
Oh good! I'm not the only one who caught that! It looked like he physically doubled over cringing in the background. :D
>We've evolved past the screensaver as a species.
You're goddamn right, Anthony. You're goddamn right.
i like them, they're relaxing XD
they make a good separation between the content on the screen when it hasn't been used in a while, and the rest of the room
and are cool eeffects that can also complement the furniture
Electric Sheep forever!
*cries in OLED*
...said nobody who has a HTPC. You know TVs don't automatically shut themselves off when they lose a video feed, right? A screensaver is a useful way to tell that your TV is still on, instead of having it show a plain black screen. Why not check the power light on the TV? Because if you have any sense and you enjoy movies, you've already covered up that power light so it won't bug you.
OLED enters the chat..
12:09 That sentence got me back to the 90's.
"They can't phone home."
Someone is actually using Windows 10?
We've been using Windows 7 in the office forever without any problems and no plans to change.
To be honest Cortana fails to find the most obvious shit that's literally on your desktop all the time too...
Try "Everything" windows search program. It finds all, and fast.
never had this issue.
It is a terrible search but does improve somewhat over time.
Though this does not help when using search on a machine I'm supporting that's not mine.
Isomer Soma same. I’ve never had this issue.
@@IsomerSoma its more when you search random stuff
@13:58 LTT: "MS Paint is not spyware"
Microsoft: "Not Yet..."
😂😂😂
It's funny and creepy at the same timw
It’s is now they are moving it to the Microsoft store so rip I guess XD
Microsoft a few years later: "Introducing, Paint 3D!"
ms pain... without t lol
15:58 - Anthony's laugh made me laugh.
I would pay a crapload to speak to Anthony directly and ask him all the mysteries of PC that I sat til 5am with, and never figured out
I literally liked this video when he said “I take back everything I’ve said about quality Adobe software.” LOL
😆👌🏼🤓
Wanna talk about my lord DaVinci Resolve?
And I askes myself "Why man? Because they use an official API that does what they need and would normally be reliable available with no need of extra code/software installed on a system? That's the basic of good and system orientated software design." And just a hint, this is even more common practice in the Mac World.
15:57 Anthony's disappointment in the background.
How is that he just bought a brand new Rolls-Royce Ghost 2021
If you had it set to show the address bar Linus, after you search, that bar can be used to move up one folder.
15:49 - Anthony’s reaction 🤣🤣
