  • This video is of a transmission from a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country minivan. Customer Lynn Zangara. This vehicle came in with lock up torque converter codes that would reoccur when driving. The pan of the transmission was removed and it was evident that there was something in the process of failure. The transmission was removed and disassembled normal wear and tear on clutches,bushings,sealing rings ect for a hundred thousand mile vehicle we're present. This transmission uses many components from the 604 Chrysler 4 speed transmission that was developed in the late 80s. As fuel mileage requirements increased it was necessary to add two additional gear ratios. These additional ratios allow the engine to run in the rpm range where it has its highest volumetric efficiency for improving fuel mileage. Unfortunately some of the components that we're designed had some flaws that became apparent after a few years after these transmissions were put into service. Fortunately design revisions have been made to some of these failure prone components. When we are rebuilding these Transmissions it is critical for us to install updated components to improve the reliability and durability beyond the factory specifications. This transmission will be rebuilt and even with these updated components installed still be more cost-effective than a remanufactured transmission.     At 3:07 you are pointing to the failure prone TCC solenoid not the VLP solenoid. The line pressure control solenoid is located in the solenoid assembly. Good video showing the revision of the low direct drum support.

    What year did Chrysler update 62te transmissions with the better designed low clutch drum?

      Best I can find is around 2015 or 2016...at this point i think you would need to buy a 2017 or newer to avoid this issue safely...

    Hi... is itit possible to swap the internal components of a 2013 3.6 T&C transmission to the housing of a 2009 3.8 T&C? will it work just the same? Thanks in advance.

      Juan Francisco Collao you would need the case and converter from the engine you intend to use at least i think the internals are the same with exception 2013 had the updates to fix problem areas also use your solenoid pack and valve body as they are matched to the engine requirements
