62TE Valvebody Overhaul

  • In this video, i overhaul a 62TE valvebody, going over check ball locations and talk about a common mistake that will cause a 2-3 bind-up. I install a new solenoid pack and TCC solenoid, which has a high failure rate, when the tcc solenoid becomes clogged, it will stall the engine when slowing down to a stop because the converter is not releasing. Enjoy and thanks for watching

    Gary, I just want to thank you for solving my problem. Had the issue of stalling when coming to a stop usually off of high speed on the highway. I picked up on your statement of the common issue with the TCC solenoid. I just changed it out as you suggested along with (another common problem with these being) the neutral safety switch, filter and oil and it now operates as it should. I thank you for your wisdom as it is much appreciated. Keep up the great work.

    Hi Gary. Bought a used 2012 T & C Touring L 3.6L. 143km. Started limping below 40 mph and revs to 4 or 5. When I restart the car it drives normally for 40 miles or more in this hot season and in cold season up to 150 to 300 miles until is limps again. Receive several codes in order during the course of the year from a Solenoid D and later Solenoid B (? code) and recently P0765 code. Is the cheapest and safest thing you think I should do is a Transmission Fluid and Filter change service to stop these limp modes or should I never do a that service? and should I also do a Solenoid Pack replacement too?

    Gary, I’m having issues with my 14’ Dodge Caravan. I’ve got P083B, P0944 and P0882. The car is stuck in 3rd gear even after I clear VLP Counter. There is hesitation when going into reverse or drive until I give it gas, then it moves. The transmission whines too. If I’m idling in reverse, sometimes it will just die.
    I’ve hooked up my scan tool and have looked at the line pressure. When it’s in neutral or park, the line pressure is good. But when it’s in drive or reverse it’s about 30 psi. Once I give gas, and have the car moving a bit, the pressure goes up 125ish in drive and about 200ish in reverse.
    I’ve tried solenoid pack as well as fluid and filter change with no luck. I’ve checked all electrical and it’s fine.
    I feel like it might not be a trans rebuild or TC/pump and thinking it’s a stuck valve inside of the valve body?
    What do you think?

    should there be a ball under the transmission fluid pressure sensor?
    One ball flew out, I didn’t see where it came from, but I saw a hole on the back of the transmission fluid pressure sensor and it looked very similar (to the place for the ball), so I installed it there. I'm not sure because of this the first gear is engaged for 2 seconds. and then it stops working. Reverse gear drives better.

    I got the 62te transmission with the dreaded P0868 code and it went into limp mode. I changed my fluid and filter and don't have any leaks. I've driven it for a year now as my daily driver and the p0868 just came back yesterday and it went into limp mode again. I guess the p0868 stands for low fluid pressure.. but my fluid is not low. It still smells normal. And it's still nice and red. I've heard stories on how the solenoids go bad and replacing the solenoid pack is the fix for this problem. But I have also heard that replacing the solenoid pack will not really fix the problem and it's internal damage and needing a rebuild. I am not a transmission mechanic so I thought I would ask the pros on here lol. Any ideas?

      The TCC solenoid is the single solenoid just above the solenoid pack on the valvebody. P0740 means the converter can no longer fully lock-up, this can be caused by the solenoid, also the converter itself or even a bad pump bushing.

Showing codes P0733, P0846 and P083b. I changed the fluid and filter and it seemed to run fine, drove it back to their place, approx 90 miles and no problem. It ran for 2 days and then no shift, does shift if it sits for awhile. Did the resistance check on solenoid block and it all shows within spec. • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  Před 6 lety

      The stalling could be the TCC solenoid, thats pretty common, no reverse could be the low clutch drum, the ring lands wear out an updated drum would need to be installed with non-rotational rings

      Thanks for responding. I meant to say that it stalls when put in drive, but does not stall when put in reverse. The problem appears to be the tcc solenoid, but no code puzzles me. Does lack of code eliminate the solenoid as the problem? If so, what is next most likely problem? Thanks much!

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  Před 6 lety

      The most common problem with the car stalling is the TCC solenoid.The TCC solenoid is fed from the drive position of the manual valve, TCC operation normally begins after the 2-3 shift, but if the solenoid is partly clogged, the feed oil may be connected with the TCC valves causing the converter to be applied during drive engagements. This problem may not set a code because the solenoid is mechanically clogged.

    I have the same issue with my 2013 Grand Caravan (engine dies when put in Drive). I wanted to know if it's possible to replace just the solenoid pack and the TCC valve without removing the complete valve body assembly as you have in this video? Would be great to know your thoughts.

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  Před 6 lety +1

      Hello,
      You cannot change the solenoid pack without removing the valvebody. First i would have the fluid level checked and evaluated. If that looks good, i would just change the TCC solenoid, this solenoid becomes mechanically clogged causing the engine to stall. This solenoid is sold separately, i believe this is the parts number, 5169313AA.

      @5iddharth5h Před 6 lety

      So I did end up replacing just the TCC solenoid. However, the problem came back again a couple days later. This time I was able to note down the symptoms better. The vehicle itself has done 115k miles:
      1) Vehicle started jerking badly while doing a steady 30mph (almost like when you let go off the clutch pedal in 5th gear while you're only doing 25mph)
      2) At the stop sign, idle speed starts to dip with the engine in Drive and the brake pressed. When the brake pedal is released and the accelerator is pressed... the engine or vehicle hesitates to move forward (until about 5% of the throttle is pressed down) and then suddenly surges ahead. This happens even in Reverse and while backing up.
      3) Smell of burning ATF
      4) I also heard a loud clunk noise coming from the engine bay (this has happened twice so far)
      Additional info: The vehicle has new ignition coils, spark plugs, injectors, camshaft sensors, and Transmission input speed sensor
      Would be great to know your thoughts on how to diagnose this problem.

After moving the shifter I can hear the selenoids working and after 0,7sec I'm getting the "bang", no error codes.
