    In the era of Gameloft we used to have standalone single player campaigns with great great graphics. Be it novas or popular racing games to ubisoft titles like assassins creed to avater they were simply mind-blowing. 2012-14 was golden. Now Gameloft doesn't make any of those single player games with 0 online crap. And not sure if the contract that expired or something, the whole old library of games just disappeared into nothing

    The only problem for me on games right now is that it is not the same as before, i feel like some developers just gets greedy and they don't focus on the gameplay of the players, especially right now the games are full and full of ads to the point that you can't even play anymore.

    Cellphone java games were total top tier for me. It was the time of handheld gameboys, so mobile games devs tried to keep up with the level of entertainment. These werent much about graphics but purely about playability. And the use of HW buttons helped a lot. Java mobiles like Sony Ericsson k700i were so popular at my region that every kid had to had some. Titles like prince of persia, splinter cell, gravity defied, magnetic joe, playman series, worms, medal of honor, burnout, asphalt were extremely well put together.

      Ahh, did you hit right in the nostalgia with that that comment - 2005-2010, the golden age of mobile gaming :) I undug my old K770i only to find almost all the games you've mentioned still installed on it. At the time, Gameloft made a mobile Java version of almost every popular game - if they didnt struck a deal with a studio to make a mobile port of their games (like they did with Ubisoft), they made a mobile counterpart of the entire franchise, and since there was no online functionality to speak of, they actually had to put in effort to for people to buy them. Some examples off the top of my head:
      -Need for Speed -> Asphalt
      -GTA -> Gangstar
      -FIFA -> Real Football
      -Tekken/Mortal Kombat -> Medieval Combat
      -The Sims -> Miami/New York Nights
      -Rock Band/Guitar Hero -> Guitar Rock Tour
      -Super Monkey Ball -> Tropical Madness
      Games good enough to make 90's kids not regret not having a GameBoy.

    You may notice the cycle a game goes through is relevant. Marvel Snap for example came out this year, was highlighted at the game awards just last week, and yet is already at the stage of spending their good will by silently removing features that benefit players and pulling content to sell it back to you. Console games do this a little, but it usually isn't in the very first year like Marvel Snap and other mobile games

It is a gacha game so its whole substructure is built upon micro transactions. What do you expect? Where there's a higher concentration of hardcore gamers, there's no downfall at all. The quality they produce there is insane: cross platform, the latest unreal, etc. But those games are region specific so the world wouldn't know much about it. I think you need to explore this. Not to mention other game of different genre like Mobile legend, AOV, or MOBA game in general. While some of them not thriving like they used to ,but they are popular enough to create an esport out of it with hundreds thousands dollar prize for the winning team.
      Some of the game I mention are game that figure out phone limitation and still giving their best to accommodate the user like using 2D asset instead of 3D asset or adding setting so user with low end phone can still play their game, while pushing the setting for higher end phone user.
      So while the gaming industry seems like filled with crappy game with not so good graphics, etc. some game still thrive while pushing the limitations of the higher end device, while still accommodate higher end device.
      The problem is most of the curent game in market is judge by top download. To do that you need to make the game catchy, clickbait, and advertise them to multiple platform like YT. The result is top gaming section filled with junk games where most of their money goes into advertisements rather than to development proses. These game only think about short term profit, since the over saturation of mobile gaming industry making long term profit making seem not viable. While game with reaaaalllyy good quality with long term development in mind goes unnoticed in top chart get sweep away by crappy game.

      Mobile game is doomed to die,
      those people played mobile game because they couldn't afford to buy a PS5, Xbox, Switch or PC.
      or a very casual game for your Grandma like candy crush
      let's be real, everyone at this point already get Carpal Tunnel and Bad Vision from playing mobile game.
      that was a hefty price to pay for no benefit at all.
      it's not the best platform to play, it's only good for Gambling based game.
      it's a cash grab platform that offer little to no value, unlike the Real Game that made with love in Console / PC.
      the moment people get a decent amount of paycheck in real life, they will instantly switch into Console & PC gaming.
      that's why basically nobody in the US played a mobile game, because they already had a superior one
      once you have a console & pc, you won't feel any need to touch mobile games anymore.
      Unless you're trapped with friends who force you to play gacha game a lot.

    As a mobile game developer for over 7 years the mobile platform is different because the OS updates are annual and you must support at least the oldest device available every year in accord to the platform to gain the widest audience as much as possible. Finding the midline performance is a must because people do not update phones often and having the latest and greatest tech means the older device will not be able to play the game due to OS/Hardware/Software limitations.

They would make the game feels easy to play to build confident and to make you think that you are a great player and then the difficulty would spike OR the game become a chore to play. They would introduced an in app purchase to make it easier and would give you an illusion of discount with limited purchased time. Imagine if 10000 players pay 10 dollar on a cheap made game. lol

    As an ex-Vainglory player, I am reminded that why the game failed (despite it's early success) was because only the highest-end devices can run the game smoothly, which creates a barrier for mid range and lower range mobile users from trying out their game, causing it to eventually phase out. It is also very storage intensive, and each match can take more than 30 mins (including matchmaking) to complete.

And now 10 years later if I want to play track racing game like RR3, I would play... RR3. Not because it's a masterpiece of a game, or better than it's competitor but rather there's just... nothing else. 10 years have passed and there seems to be 0 progress for this genre in the mobile gaming space. A lot of games on similar genre just opt for pvp only drifts with no bots, no (or horrendously made) campaign/career
    Even RR3 seems so be stuck in time. That livery editor that I praised a while ago? Haven't changed a single bit ever since it's introduction, in fact it seems to got worse as I now got gray border on every single vinyls
    I think the biggest problem with mobile gaming space is the fact that it is _too_ accessible. I have no clue how to explain this properly cuz my english is horrible, but a big chunk of mobile gamers are just children who just gobble everything up without any critical thinking (and not just the children who does this), even the absolute half baked mobile game can rake up profits, just need to be flashy and put insignificant but a LOT of rewards to trigger those sweet endorphins from their playerbase, make them think they were being rewarded. So why try when you can just do the bare minimum and get rich in the mobile space? Spend nearly nothing, get millions in return, repeat

(And every future processor will just run the game better) giving that game a typical lifecycle of 6 years (enough for story mode games).
      2- when PS 2 was there, PSP also did great in the market despite its limited 3D capabilities against Powerful PS 2.
      3- Before this call of duty online, they made a call of duty story mode game, with great graphics and story, I played it on a 100$ smartphone.
      4. It's not possible to make PC or Console ports to Android for the demanding titles like Forza Horizon. But a standalone smartphone series of the game is still possible, Like we saw in PSP for god of war and Nintendo games. And many less demanding PC titles are Leo's fortune, and The walking dead series (GAME OF THE YEAR winning title) was ported well on Android and again I played it on a 100$ smartphone.

    The performance gap is not the issue, in PC games we have graphic settings to match the specs of the PC (resolution, frame rate, details, shadows etc). A set of options that many mobile games today have kept forgetting. Thus, also causing performance/heating issues on low end or old phones, effecting the general mobile usage experience. Hardcore gamers tend to dislike mobile especially microtransactions and would choose over a platform(pc, consoles) that is intended for gaming. Casual gamers don't care for fps or ray tracing. As a game developer why settle in a small set of hardcore audience when there are tons of casual players out there in the mobile market.

      Touch screens suck. For me, before we even get to how poor quality the games are or even the performance issues, touch inputs aren't suitable for gaming.
      Even games like temple run that are built around touch inputs are so imprecise. I stopped playing temple run and subway surfers because even though I enjoyed the games, firstly, they grew stale pretty quickly and secondly, there's a low skill ceiling beyond which you can't improve that is imposed on you by the touch screen

    I think another important factor is that the mobile gaming market used to be more special. Back in 2012 it was a novelty to be able to play games on your phone/tablet, so the games back then just felt more magical.
    Another thing is how the business model for mobile games has changed. Most mobile games used to cost real money to download, just like console/pc games. However, companies soon after realized just how much more money they could make by publishing free-to-play games with micro transactions and loot boxes.
    The market is definitely not what it used to be. I used to get over a year worth of game time from one angry birds game for just a few dollars. How time has changed.

However the game pretty much died and lost all of its fanbase in terms of playing when Epic Games had the lawsuit against Apple and Samsung thanks to the bypass of their 30% transaction fee on Fortnite. That made Apple and Google play store cut ties to Epic Games and all their games. Since Infinity Blades has always been an ios exclusive game, it is now impossible to download the game without jumping through so many hoops that basically dissolves 90% of the players that are even interested in playing it anymore, as if it was an android game, it would be much easier to find an apk of the game to download.
