But I have a better question. Red skull was the guide to soul stone but if soul stone is already taken shouldn't he be set free from this duty. And if that is the case when cap went to vormir to return the soul stone what could have been the scenario? If you think the timeline doesn't make sense, that's because it hasn't been fixed yet. Cap returns the Soul stone before Black Widow sacrificed herself, which lead him to battle the Red Skull though time and space. A bit like the Cap/Skull Cosmic Cube saga, which may have lead to Caps ageing somewhat. He may have fought Arnim Zola in the 70's when he returns the Space Stone, causing the evil scientist's demise and slowing down Hydra's take over of SHIELD. The other Stones are replaced without changing the time lines too much. However the death of the past Thanos and his army in 2019 causes time ripples where he doesn't collect the stone in the first place. Thus alerting a future antagonist Kang the Conqueror to the Age of Heroes, kicking of the next phase of MCU. Nuff said.

It's mind blowing, my head aches for thinking that.
the whole point is he couldn't make any changes. If he made any changes he would have created a branch universe by knowing the effects of the future, spinning it off from the main timeline, which wouldn't have actually stopped anything happening because it still would have happened in another timeline. The only way to minimise the branching would have been to cause as few changes as possible.
If it's already been written he couldn't change it. It's that simple, so he lived a full life and waited until time caught up.

I started crying today when I rewatched endgame when I hit me that a super solider patriotic superhero had this amazing life as a hero and all these lovely friends and co hero’s then he just gave it it all up threw away everything he had just to spend his life with the love of his life
he didnt throw away anything. he decided to retire, the avengers are done, he knows there are still defenders of earth left to help save the world, he decided to retire in a different timeline to live a simple life, steve wouldnt time travel if it would rewrite the history of the main timeline. his ending was good

IMO the best explanation is there will always be a Captain America loop.
OG Cap lives out the MCU events through the End Game stone return mission, but in turn becomes 2nd Life Steve while a frozen past self will be destined to live out OG's events.
Basically meaning there will always be 2. One gets to be in the shadows selfishly living his life knowing events to come, but can never intervene. But another will live the events we all know only to be destined to keep the cycle

Digbijoy Choudhury the super soldier serum doesn’t make less susceptible to aging, he ages as I pointed out in my previous comment. The serum made him into a peak human being, but that doesn’t mean that he could even live to 200.

It was obvious once you saw him sitting on the bench. He put every infinity stone back into place, including Mjolnir, dropping off the tesseract last. Then, he just stayed at that point in time. Lived a normal life with Sharon after that point while his past self remained in the glacier to be found decades later. This way, he wasn't doing anything to change his past and thus create a separate timeline. A well deserved retirement. With any luck, he had some kids that maybe, just maybe, inherit some of that super soldier serum for Phase 4 of the Avengers.

I like the idea of the Post-Captain America Civil War timeline branch where Tony, Nat, and Steve are alive and well. But I can imagine the main timeline post-Thanos getting X-Men mutants.
According to Loki series the timer travels in End Game was supposed to happen except Loki's escape. Therefore Cap could stay in original timeline with no branches.
What I haven’t heard anyone talking about is the fact that when Cap went back in time with Tony to get the pin particles, he took 4 of them l. One for him to get back to the present, one for Tony, and two more that he pocketed which he could of used to correct the timeline after he stayed 🤷🏾♂️
