When he had his off nights the story was “Crawford isn’t that good”. When he played outta his mind the narrative was “Anyone could look good in front of the Hawks”. I think Hawk fans that watched every game knew his worth and talent. Really wish he got the national recognition beyond being a good goalie for a great team.
Opposing teams fans knew how good he was. Seeing him regularly against the Blues, I could see he was underrated. He was a BIG piece of the success.
Most hockey fans and even Hawks casual fans think that the team was just as dominant as the 2010 team for years when that just wasn't the case. They were never the 2010 team again and the amount of shit defense that they played in front of Crawford was astounding. The narrative you described is exactly what happened... last year Lehner put up almost exactly identical numbers to Crawford, yet only Lehner was talked about like he was a top 5 goalie.
If that were the case Cristobal Huet, Antti Niemi, and Khabibulin (past his prime) would have been kept.
It’s because of that he didn’t get the vezina in 2015 which is honestly such a joke
Crawford (91.8%) ends up retiring with a higher save percentage than Carey Price (91.7%), Pekka Rinne (91.7%). He will also probably end up with a higher save percentage than Henrik Lundqvist.
Also that none of those guys have yet won the Stanley Cup, let alone twice.
Good luck Corey Crawford ! Can't wait until they retire his 50 jersey
Respect to Crawford (from a Blues fan). He was always underrated. I remember the most recent series he played against the Blues. The only reason it went to seven games at all was because Crawford was fantastic.
He proved his doubters wrong.
Crawford I thank you for your service and I will miss hearing greaaaaat save by Crawford
"AND AN INCREDIBLE SAVE BY CRAAWFOOORD"
BIG SAVE CRAAAAWFOOORRRRD!!!
"LETS Fucking GO Chiiiiicaaaagooooooo whooooooo!" -Corey Crawford
Most underrated goalie in the cap era for sure!!!
He took one look at Newark, NJ and said “I’m out.”
I don't blame him
Yes, that's why he signed as a free agent....
I don’t blame him. Imagine going from Chicago to Jersey. LOOOL Ooof.
@@blackhawks9763 Chicago sucks and yes I’m born and raised here.
@@kyleayres6255 It’s better than New Jersey tho. Hell even Marty left that dump for St. Louis.
He should've won the Conn Smythe in 2013
If Osgood isn't in the HOF, I don't think Crawford ever would be. Number retired though sounds very reasonable.
Devils legend Corey Crawford
He was amazing in nj
@@galifianakis2808 didnt let a goal in
They should retire his number!
Hawks legend baby. Wtf is your problem? Boy byeeeeeeee
@@MaryRuscittiShawlover joke went right over your head
Summary: Slow start, then awesomeness and cups.
fun fact, Crawford has the exact same career save percentage as Carey Price
Possibly the most underrated goalie of the modern era. As a Hawks fan who watches every game I can tell you there is no 2015 Stanley Cup Championship for Chicago without Crawford in net especially vs Anaheim in the Conference Finals and Tampa Bay in the Finals (ironic after he almost lost the starting job to Scott Darling in the first round vs Nashville). When you needed a big save Crow was always there. Concussions and vertigo aside, when he was healthy and on top of his game he was better than any goalie in the league. To me he belongs in the Hall. Even if he doesn’t get there (which is likely that he won’t) I really hope the Blackhawks retire #50 someday.
Considering how many teams would give an arm and a leg for consistent, good goal tending, it's amazing that he's so underappreciated.
2028: United Center pregame
Welcoming for 1 last shift! NUMBER 50... COREY CRAWFORD!
Hopefully it’s even before then! Please dear God don’t let Covid last another 7 years!
And he should have won the Conn Smythe in 2013. His value wasn't realized by many until he was on a bad team, at which point some of his stats started looking a little worse as a result. True Hawks fans that watched all the games know what he meant to the team, and how damn good he was. Hope he has a happy retirement.
Amazing career sometimes got to much hate and not enough credit thank you for everything Crawford NHL and AHL Legend!
I would like to also add QMJHL Moncton Wildcats legend
Thanks, THG. As a Blackhawks fan, I agree with every word of your assessment of Crawford. A very good goalie, but not a Hall of Fame goalie. He got enough wins and is the only two-time Stanley Cup winning goalie in Hawks history. His #50 will surely hang from the rafters someday.
Don’t forget in 2015, we almost didn’t make it out of the first round against Nashville. Crow was way off those first two games. Thank God Scott Darling was on his game long enough for Crow to right the ship. Coming in relief in game 6 after Darling allowed three goals and shutting out the Preds the rest of the way was a big confidence boost. He was very good against Minnesota and Anaheim, but he was brilliant against Tampa (especially the last three games when he allowed a total of 2 goals and shut out the Lightning in the clincher). If you would have told me before the series we would play 6 games against the Lightning and score a total of 13 goals, I would’ve thought we’d lose.

Dang! You work fast, buddy! Thanks for this career vid! Ryan Smyth next?
Craw, amazing career 🔥 i hope he tries coaching goalies
Nothing like being on top of things!!!
GOOD LUCK CROW
Looking back at the last decade, even tho i wasn't a fan of the hawks Crawford over time became one of my favorite and most under-appreciated players league-wide
I feel like Crawford was thought of the same as Osgood. Both great goalies that played for even more stacked teams. Watching Crawford in the mid 2010s was great and he was a big piece of our cup runs and deep playoff runs in general. Going to definitely miss him when we roll in with some of the worst goaltending this season
Yes, Tony Esposito and Glenn Hall were awesome and legends of their time, but they weren't in my timeline. The Crow was more important and valuable than most Blackhawk fans ever gave him credit for... 'tis the curse of goalie position... the guy had a freakin' Stanley Cup clinching shutout...
Retire #50 put it in the rafters. Not saying he's a HoF. But.
Chicago will forever LOVE you Crow!!!!!! Man was criminally underrated simply because he was on Chicago.
Thank you Crawford 🤘🏻
The 2 time cup champ. He should get his number retired by hawks and go to hhof.
Bruh no😂 they'll retire toews kane, maybe keith and DATS IT
Hockey Hall of Fame should be reserved for the best of the best. Not just for players who had good careers. Corey Crawford is not anywhere near that conversation.
@@chleepy i would be very surprised if Crawford doesn’t get his name retired.
not a hall of famer..
@@wolfdreams1545 fine maybe not hall of famer but my point is he was really good
I will always wonder why Crawford is the only goalie to be constantly underrated just because of the team in front of him. I mean look at Vazy now, constantly top 3 in Vezina voting even though he has the most stacked team in the league in front of him every year. Just doesn’t make sense to me why Crow was written off like that.
True no doubt about it..
Well, it has been as 88 said it on the cup rally in 2013: let's give it up for the real MVP, Crow!
He was as mentally tough a goalie I know
Did he just have this sitting on the shelf just in case?
Haha
Im part of that bandwagon in 2013 but watching the hawks and crow win the cup made me into a hockey fan and inspired me to get into playing the goalie position. He may not be elite but hes solid and gets the job done.
Played in the best game 7 series ever in the playoffs against my Kings back in 2014!!!
I'd go 2nd best. The next round vs the Bolts would be first for me. When Crow was on, he was a badass.
Kings have always sucked....byeeeeee
I’d retire too if I had to spend my last seasons in New Jersey
Hey Shannon!!! Your live stream is happening at the moment, but I'm not able to comment during that and I feel it necessary to inform you that I REALLY ADMIRE, AND APPRECIATE YOU!!! THANKS FOR BEING AN AWESOME PERSON, AND THANK YVONNE FOR THE SAME!!! Thanks for the awesome videos too!!!
Not only concussions, but he had a nasty battle with vertigo during his career too.
Corey Crawford has two Stanley cups in his pocket. what a save! Chicago will forever love him. He has nothing to prove so retirement makes sense....
The most overlooked and underrated goalie to play for the hawks. Nobody gives him respect cause of his health. We owe two great runs to him. Inject this into my veins
Great career, sometimes underrated. I'll remember 10's Chicago as the closest to a dynasty in modern time. And Crawford had a part in it, similiar to Niemi, Osgood, Murray and so on. Not the memorable superhero of the runs but a winner nonetheless.
The 2014 playoff quality start dip could be due to that rough series with the kings where goals were like candy for both sides
Crow is nothing but the best baby. You will definitely be missed....it will definitely be weird to not see you play this year with my boys. None the less, I wish you a very happy and blessed retirement 🙏 😊 forever a Blackhawk in my heart and hawks fans around the world as well. Love you 🥰
Actually shannon the greatest quality starts season he had in his career was in 09-10.
Great vid on an amazing goaltender ;)
Crawford with the hogs was a monster.
Crow will always be one of the greats in Chicago
Hey I know you’re a nucks fan but I enjoy all your content! Go Blackhawks!
I enjoyed watching Crawford play for the blackhawks. Always thought he made positional saves very well. The only thing I wish was you could have had some sort of statistic that shows how many games the defense didn’t show up and it all fell to the goalie. Anyways... wish Crawford nothing but the best in his retirement, and thanks to Shannon for the video!
CRAWFORD!!!!! CALL THE COPS!!! - Foley in Edmonton
God Bless Crawford. HOF'er
Tracy Turner That's no HoF career
Shannon, it would be cool if you could do a career video on Bobby Clarke!
Is there a video explaining quality starts?
thanks.
Bit of a random question for this video, but who knows why the awards voting doesn't include playoffs, at least for rookies. Cause I really don't know lol
Anywho, thanks again man!
Ill always remember him for never having a bad game when they had to have a win, especially in 13 and 15 it just seemed like when it mattered most that important goal just wasnt going to get passed him
And everyone will remember him for quiting on the team he signed with 😂
@@leifpye8428 Just like Lundqvist
he’s gotta go into the HOF
He’s the all time leading playoffs wins fir Chicago so that might solidify him as a black hawks legend! He might squeak into the hall eventually. 2 cups in a 7 years run and like 5-6 30 win season straight. Last few years he was chewed up by injuries a little too much else he would of had like 8-9 straight years with 30 plus wins. Also grew up in the same city as him knew him in high school played with him and really knew his brother who is my age. Great career Crow your a legend forever :)!!!
I wish he would have played with us in NJ 😣😣
You forgot his games with the devils
Shannon: wasn't Paul Stastney traded to the Winnepeg Jets?
Stastney was at the Knights scrimmage today.
Yeah, Stastny in in Winnipeg.www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/jets-season-preview-return-contender-status-horizon/
@@TheHockeyGuy Thanks!!
People look now retroactively and think Niemi wasn't a good goalie, but in that 2010 season for the Hawk he was legitimately a great goalie, and I'm not sure why people look back on it like he wasn't very good because had a lot of flashes of brilliance in the playoffs that year to the point where I thought he should've won the Conn Smythe. I remember being so angry when he left via arbitration.
He literally put the hawks on his back, and won 3 rings doing so (really only 2 but go fuck yourself). My favorite player of all time and the best goalie the hawks have ever had, a true goat that DOMINATED the 2010's. I hope i can meet him and sing his praises some day.
Career of Steve Mason could be interesting to look at
As for quality starts, I'd argue that it's a sign of a good defence, rather. A great goalie in front of a bad defense will have a lower number because sometimes, it's just not that much he can do.
I have found all goalie stats are picked apart by subjective opinions more than any other position on the ice.
Good goalie
@@TheHockeyGuy
All stats are meaningless without interpretation. ;)
Definitely a love hate relationship with Crow. When he was on he was unbelievable, but when he was off he was unbearable. Best of luck and thank you for everything.
2 cups
@@JohnSmith-nu4ix ok
Higher save percentage than Cary price
@@JohnSmith-nu4ix ok. I’m not talking bad about him. I loved the guy in net. But there were times when his head wasn’t in it and it showed. He also had a stretch when he was making bad choices off the ice. I hope to see 50 in the rafters at the UC
Not a hall of famer but a very reliable goalie for a long time
What? A two time stanley cup winning goalie isn't a HOF? He wont be a first ballot guy but he will be in there eventually
Oh what a save by Crawford...Pat Foley about a million times.
Do a career video of Sean Burke.

Red Wings: We are the worst team in the NHL.

I hope it's not a health issue. Crawford was a great Blackhawk.
Think, it was more like , New Jersey, is still a few years away, in there rebuild, and in one of the toughest divisions. Don't think he wanted to end his career, with playing on a team, that is picked to finish last in there division this year, and possibly a few years away from even making the playoffs! Smart move by him, he has his Cups and will be healthier, not playing!
@@lukeeyeamyourfather3488 Good point. With a Cup contender he may have stuck it out. I just hope it's not health.
@@kenkunz1428Any goaltender, in there mid 30's or any Professional Athlete that age, will most likely be dealing with health issues, from the sport they played! Hes 36 years old, He didn't have the mindset, to start over with a bottom dwelling team, with his past concussion issues, makes sense to Hang up his Skates, having played for one team, and winning two cups, is more than most NHL player can even dream for! And I'm sure he has enough money, to live a comfortable life now, and spend more time with his family!
Any time a goaltender gets that many games played they're a special player in the NHL when there are only 31 to 62 jobs up for grabs. Impressive career that hockey fans will remember!
Nice username haha 😂
Wise decision, Mr. Crawford.
As a Hawks Fan, a good goalie on great teams. I agree with you Shannon not a HHOFer. He is not Henrik, Marc-Andre Fleury, Rinne, Tim Thomas, Holtby, Luongo, Price, Rask of the 2010's
Crawford has a better overall save percentage than all of those goalies besides Rask. The only problem is he didn't play enough games as those guys. But the Hawks defense from 2017 on out was absolutely terrible and he kept up the numbers. He proved he was great.
He deserves his number in the rafters of the United Centre.
Their dynasty wouldn’t have existed without his goaltending.
Also, on the note of his excellence he was robbed of the 2015 vezina. He was better then Bishoo that year.
I think Crawford is the salary cap Chris Osgood, definitely better than people believed and never really got the credit because the Hawks were such a powerful team. Hope he retired on his own terms, he deserves to be remembered as a good if injury nagged goalie. And I was never a Hawks fan. Oddly similar to the criticism Belfour got as a Hawk which only went away when he won the cup in Dallas.
Chicago fans appreciated Belfour, sadly ownership at that time (Wirtz/Pulford) was incompetent/cheap, Dominick Hasek couldnt even get off the bench for what was then, a mediocre team.
Think about that for a second, threw away him AND Belfour.
@@fubartotale3389 Totally screwed a decent championship capable team. I never liked the Hawks as they regularly beat up my Oilers (and continue to do so) but every time we played in Chicago I'd meet great hockey fans. The Keenan era team would have won if Bill Wirtz wasn't so cheap. (The criticism I mentioned came from the media, never the fans)
Under-appreciated by many but won the cup for the Hawks in 2013, put the team on his back.
That 2013 team was stacked. Crawford was great but he didn't put them on his back. I'd say the 2015 playoffs were his best performance
And 2015
He was a great goalie who had a steep decline, when Chicago was winning their cups Crawford was clutch, I hated those hawks, I would have traded Howard for Crawford any day tho
I may not have forgiven him for beating my Ducks. But he’s a hell of a player
That was a hell of a series. Probably one of the most grueling series especially for us fans.
that 15 ducks team may have actually been the best team in the league that year but that Hawks team just had that championship DNA and just straight refused to lose
@@RIPJimmyA7X - I agree. If the Ducks win that series they are the 2015 Cup champs, no disrespect to that Tampa team. The Cup finals was the Hawks-Ducks series in 2015. Saying “it could have gone either way” is often an overused term, but in that series it was the absolute truth.
@@Michael-ji8lu agreed.
@@irgids - What about 2014?
Another great french goalie

Better than retiring mid game
Great career, but no hhof. Osgood isn't even in.
Nooooooooo I loved Crawford
He'll go down as The Rodney Dangerfield of Chicago Blackhawks goalies. (He gets no respect!)
He really didn't, but that's okay, to paraphrase Patrick Roy when Roenick was doing his complaining. Crow can't hear what the haters say because his ears are blocked with his two Stanley Cup rings.
