Everyone talking about Petro leaving and his impact, but I remember the shut down pair being Parayko and Jay Bow in that 2019 run
Never forget them!
JayBo never got the credit he deserved. He was always canon fodder for the uninitiated and uninformed.
He may not have been an all-star defenseman, but he was consistently reliable. He made the little plays that mattered. And for that, he will always be remembered by us Blues fans.
Good luck in your future endeavors, Bo.
Let's not forget game 7 in Boston. He got the first assist on O'Reilly's goal (the important 1st goal) of that final. OUTSTANDING. Congrats and thanks to Bo.....job/carrer/CUP, well done!
He'll always be remembered as a smooth skating defenseman. It was great to see him to get a Stanley Cup win as a Calgary Flames fan.
As a Panthers fan. Was glad to see him win in STL
👍
Darn! He was a great guy. Glad he got his cup!
Great player, unbelievable guy. Much love and respect that man grinded his entire career
JayBo and Petro were the starting pair on the blue line for Canada in their gold medal game/victory
He is a guy that you have to really watch to appreciate his style of play and how insanely good he is at playing defense
As a blues fan I got into hockey pretty much right when the blues got bouwmeester and at the beginning I didn’t care too much for him cause he wasn’t a flashy player but the more I started to learn about the game the more I realized just how good he really was. Sad to see him go
Nice thumbnail of his eyes coming out of his head looking beyond the 4th dimension to see how to break up the play
And you have Frank Stallone and Noam Chomsky in the seats too
@@idiotidiot5821 😆 nice catch
Youngest player to represent Canada at the world juniors which he played in 3 times and won gold at the Olympics
Triple Gold club member im pretty sure.
@@danh5810 no silver and 2 bronze no gold
@@notsurewhoiam469 Nope. He's a Triple Gold Member. Olympic Gold(2014, World Championship Gold (2003, 2004) and Stanley Cup (2019)
@@danh5810 I would count junior worlds over world championship that’s just second fiddle to the olympics
@@notsurewhoiam469 While I dont necessary disagree, the official triple gold club consists of the World's, Olympics, and Cup. I think they choose that because not every player plays in junior championships.
When I think workhorse, I think Jay Bouwmeester.
Edit: Lotta people kinda overlook him getting exceptional status to play for Team Canada Jrs. as a 15 year old. On defense. 15!
Jay "The Professor" Bouwmeester is also in the rare Triple Gold Club, having won the Stanley Cup, an Olympic Gold Medal and a World Championship Gold Medal. He was a hell of a player at every level. We'll miss him in STL.
Bouwmey was a great defenseman! And yeah, actually played a REALLY high number of games. And had a huge stretch of years where he didn't miss a single game! Good for him, and wish him only the best!
His offensive numbers dropped off the year that his hip injuries started. That hip nagged him for the rest of his career.
I think he also said that he specifically wanted to tailor his game to be more defensively-minded, especially after playing on some weak teams in Florida.
One thing you left out was that he is one of only a handful of players to win a Juniors gold medal, Olympic gold medal, and a Stanley Cup. If I remember correctly, there are less than 30 players all-time that can say that.
Thank you Jaybo for everything. You will always be one of my favorite Blues players of all time.
Jay bouwmeester is a legend happy that he got his cup
Stanley Cup Champion! This guy was a huge part of that for the St. Louis Blues!
Thanks for all the memories and moments Bo. GLORIA!
I was a fan of Bo in Florida and was really happy when he came to my hometown team the Blues. I am glad he got his cup. He deserves it and I am glad he is ok. Thanks for the great seasons Jaybo.
Great career, JayBo. So glad you could be a big part of the Blues 2019 Stanley Cup run. Enjoy your retirement!
Bouwmeester seemed like that type of respectable defenceman that you could like no matter what team you cheer for. Just an all around great guy it seems
Wow... watching you discuss his career has just made me realise I've been watching hockey for 16 years Respect :)
Bo was a HUGE part of that Cup winning team. He and Parayko were often tasked with shutting down the other team's best players, and they did a masterful job, especially in the Cup final against the Bergeron line. That Bergeron line struggled badly at even strength largely because they had to face Parayko and Bo. Parayko 6'6, Bo 6'4 and both guys skated very well and have really long reach. They were a pain in the ass to play against. I'm so glad that he won the Cup with the Blues. It really shows what kind of teammate he is when Pietrangelo almost immediately handed him the Cup. Petro raised it for 10 seconds max before he said "Where's Bo? Get in here, Bo!" I love listening to Jay talk hockey, he's still living in the area and is raiasing a family. I hope he can contribute to the alumni association in future years, even if he's not able to lace them up again. Also, major props to the Ducks medical team who, along with the Blues' staff, immediately went to work after he collapsed. They saved a life.
Agreed, I hope his health gets better and he lives a long and healthy life.
Nice video, Shannon.
Originally, I wasn't a big fan when he first came to the Blues. He came back from his injury with greatly improved play and was very important on the cup run, earning my respect. When he went down, the Blues lost a what he provided, a good 20-25 minutes of steady defense per game. While not as pivitol as losing Pietrangelo, his reliable defense will be missed.
Also a member of the triple gold club! Success not only in the NHL but international competitions as well.
It's really cool that a guy that didn't play a playoff game until he was 29 soon turning 30, and won his first round at like, 33? Or so. Anyway, got to finally win a cup!
There's hope for Eichel!
Jay Bouwmeesters finest hour was the Hold medal. Babcock and Julien used basically his style of shut down play to mold the entire Canada team. It lead to that medal. He stuck out to me in that tournament.
Congrats to Jay Bouwmeester on a unreal hockey career! Also congrats to Kevin Porter and Carter Bancks on very good careers to
Good summary of his NHL career, but he was also great in international hockey. Triple Gold Club plus 2 World Cup championships. He always represented Canada well.
Wishing Jay the very best in his retirement. A lot of the old guard are retiring.
As a Flames fan he did pretty good as a Flame but I was happy to see him win a cup I hope he enjoys retirement
Wish him all the best on a fantastic career.
I remember the hype around him in 2001, being a late birthday he had to wait another year to get drafted. He might not have turned into that cutting edge offensive D-man but had a very good career nevertheless and I'm very happy that he finally got to win the Cup.
JayBo is the main reason the Blues were able to move past Dallas in game 7 and eventually to the cup. JayBo saved that puck from going in on the wraparound in end of regulation.
He was a great player and I wish all the best
When the Sedins had their jersey retirement, they wish Bouwmeester well. Classy guys all around.
Man I’m gonna miss Bouw. He was my favorite hockey player growing up and of all time. Hopefully he lives a long and happy and healthy life in retirement.
Favorite Bouwmeester press conference. Go
Legend
Just an enjoyable defensemen to watch, tons of respect
He also won 1 Olympic gold medal in 2014, and 2 world cups in 2004 and 2016!
The Hockey Guy- wasn’t JayBo in an elite club of Junior World Cup, Olympic Gold, and Stanley Cup champion? Maybe like a handful of guys? Thanks for your work, always enjoy! Go Blues!
As a Jets fan I honestly gotta admit that Jay was the only reason I was glad to see the Blues win the Cup in 2019. It wasn't as goosbumpy as Ray Bourque's win when Burnaby Joe passed him the Cup but it was nice to see.
Truly a great hockey player
As a Panthers fan, it was nice seeing Jay hoist the Stanley Cup...
Bouwmeester was given a coin after winning the Stanley Cup by Phil. 1 of 29 of total NHL players who have won The Cup, Olympic Gold Medal, and IIHF world Champion.
I always struggled with J Bo.. But in the end I am glad he is okay and excited that he was able to get a cup ring after all that time!
Statistically speaking Calgary stunted his growth
I love that thumbnail btw.
Love the player will be missed!! LGB!!
Maybe not immediately, but should be in the Hall. Triple gold club, 1,200+ game career. Also a great shutdown defenseman for the St. Louis cup run
Lmao he’s nowhere near hall of fame
@@tegridyfarmz Agree, he will not be in the HoF.
Doesn't need to be. He is in the hearts of Blues fans, and hockey fans, for all time.
Did him dirty with the thumbnail😂
He was Fantasy Hockey point machine with Florida.
Was scary to see him go down
Love him but only ever saw him play on the blues
An absolute shutdown clinic JBo and Parayko put on the marchand line for the cup that year. What a career!
I remember his Florida days, he was awesome
i remember in nhl 10 i always got a trade offer from Fl for bouwmeester and a 1st round swap for Patty Elias took it almost ever time. dont believe that trade would be done in real life.
The argument can be made that Bouwmeester is HOF worthy. Statistics are not the be all end all, all Jay did was win....World Juniors....Canada Cup...Olympics....and a Stanley Cup. Oh and played consistently over 12-hundred games in the NHL. I rest my case!! Congrats Jay and a fantastic career. Enjoy your retirement. You've earned it!!
Honestly, thought he would be a much higher scoring defenseman with all the hype coming into the NHL.
But hotdamn, reviewing his career and the longevity with the Cup win, yeah....what a great career!
a long decent career-some highlights topped off with a stanley cup and a truckload of cash-hopefully a nice long retirement to enjoy now....
I have always found it interesting how players often say they want to be in the playoffs (which I believe) and then end up signing long term with a team that themselves has not been in the playoffs. I realize of course that good teams may not have the room or money to add a good player, and there is always some speculation on the player's part that the new team will get to the playoffs or go deep, but it does seem at times to undercut the original argument.
I remember when Mike Keenan was in Florida, he sent Bowmeester to the Chicago Wolves for a playoff run in 2005.
Always loved the guy when Calgary traded for him. Him, Regher and Phaneuf were great on a lackluster Calgary team
I miss him and so do the Blues.
Solid career.
It's good that Steen and Bouwmeester managed to get a Cup late in their careers.
Great video Shannon. Also he was on our team Canada gold medal team right?
Yes. He is a member of the Triple Gold Club.
Thanks. 👍
I have this Blues Jersey but the sleeves are so hard to keep clean.
It's probably a much longer video but comparing players who do well in one market and sold high to another market where it just doesn't work.
Seems like yesterday he was breaking into the league. Happy Retirement
The thumbnail is every action shot of Jay Bo
I feel like his point totals were low in St. Louis because he played with Petro, Shatty and Parayko, etc. Yeah he started facing injuries but on a team with less Off. he'd probably put up over 20 pts in his final 15-18 years
Loved him in Florida, shame we've always had terrible management to build around guys like him
I honestly had no idea he played for the flames
Hall of famer in my opinion as a blues fan easily
I don't think Jay got the appreciation he deserved. Especially during the cup run.
How was that not a fair trade when a first round pick was given on the other side. The result who they pick is not important for its like buying an unscratched lottery ticket and the earlier the pick the better the ticket and the 25th overall pick longterm would be pretty decent still. Maybe it wasn't great for Calgary or the Blues barely won but a mid-tier defense can't be worth much more than late first rounder anyway.
Smooth skater
At least he won a cup and had a great career and thank God he survived that horrible moment
Jbo was an elite shutdown dman, there's a reason he was a member of championship teams.
At least the Caps didn't sign him right before this came out
You used the single most unflattering image of JBo for the thumbnail 😂
Flames legend
I hated that trade from Calgary to St Louis. Wish the Flames had a better coach than Sutter when he was with the team.
Ever stop and think just how many players have played for Calgary and St.Louis? At least among big names. We have to be each others biggest trading partner.
Rwd wings ❤❤
Is everyone just retiring
I honestly had a feeling that he would retire.
you have incredible instincts
Stick him in the hall!
Hi
Still no career video of Kirk Muller...!!!
Feel old?
2nd
You know that Bouwmeester had collapses during the Anaheim ducks game
