So when we laugh at goofy white people, its nothing racial but then we laugh at goofy black people and its instantly self hatred? 😂 Yall just want a pass to get online and say the wildest shit without anyone pushing back and if they do you accuse them of internalized hatred. It can never be that we disagree and that we think what you said its dumb, we just hate blackness.

I just pulled a week straight of 3 hours a night sleeping so I could go from a work apprenticeship to a trade school back to back with side jobs in between. I started waking up in panic mode stressing that I was late for something. Also stressing cus I got no bill money and my debit card overdrawn paying off my credit card so not I don’t got food or gas money. But I’m not blaming racism, I’m getting opportunities despite my race. I just know my situation as a kid born and raised in the NYC projects but my parents moved to this country and worked their whole lives and even without my father my mother as a single parent of 4 raised her kids and put food on the table and took care of her family. So now it’s my duty to pay that back by becoming the greatest I can. And idk about ya but I’m not letting some bs about racism stop me bc better men than me have dealt with a lot worse and persevered so who am I to give anything less

The sleep study should be looking at more than just ethnicity. Sleep at different ages is vastly different. Ppl in the elderly category usually get much less sleep than all the other categories. What was the age demographics for the various ethnicities? Were all participants tested in the same controlled location or were they in charge of recording their own sleep in whatever environment they slept in? Sample size, medication affects or general health, etc. There are other factors that should have been noted for potential bias purposes even if they weren't tested for unless it was just a shitty study
Cherry picking one part of a study always annoys me. It's never just one thing that causes an outcome. Correlation is not causation.

If the results showed blacks got better sleep their boss would have urged them not to even publish the article and possibly fired them if they had because you must show oppression or your job is on the line, hell, your LIFE is on the line. However, no matter how much or how little sleep you get - it's up to you to enjoy life and engage - no one's going to give that to you. That means eating a healthier diet to take in the world around you, see beauty, etc. Why get sleep only to wake up to disaster? Get cleaned up. If others don't let you - find a way anyway to pull yourself together. No excuses - if you have one - you have enough energy to work on solutions.

It will be interesting to discuss how I became white and what is to be done to save me. I do go very dark when in the sun do you think that will help? I suppose I don’t come from Scandinavia now there is some major whiteness going on.😂😂😂😂

Better beds, better homes, safer neighbourhoods, less shift work… that sort of thing adds up to a better night’s sleep. That would also affect poorer white/Hispanic/Asian… whatever people. @@josephlove5445I had a similar experience in my multiracial high school as a white student. There was a black teacher from Barbados who always used to pick on white students in his class, calling us dumb if we couldn't complete math questions, and saying stupid shit like: "and here I though whites were supposed to be smart... now go sit down."
This crap continued for years until I was in class with him again and he said that "the world would be a better place without white people in it," and not in a joking manner. Some of the white student's parents complained to the principal about him and he was fired, but only after threats to get the media involved.
I was also taunted and bullied for being white by my majority black classmates and eventually complained to an earlier principal (before he left and was replaced), about the situation when it got to the point of physical theats, and all he has to say to me was "Well stop hanging out with the black kids then, and you'll be fine," as if me being racist would be the solution. Instead of ever confronting the true racist black kids that made my life hell, that was his solution.
I have way more stories to tell about my years growing up as a minority in my school and neighborhood. I totally agree with you that racism is 1000% not a solely white thing... in fact, I'd wager to say there is more racism in the communities of POC than there is in white ones due to a lack of POC never having their racist beliefs checked on the same level whites have had, and never having to go through cultural sensitivity training.
But I never stay silent, and I always check racism where I see it, because, like you, I grew up realizing racism is everywhere and you need to confront it. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Obesity is a HUGE problem in the US. It causes people to have a harder time resting and breathing deeply. While rates of obesity among all racial groups is astronomical, the rates for African Americans is higher. Which could easily explain the difference in the races getting different levels of REM sleep.
But, what do I know, I'm just a person with eyes and common sense. If you've ever been obese or lived with an obese person, it sounds like Darth Vader is in the room with you. If you or they loose weight, it's like night and day the difference in the sound of the breathing. Also, most folks that lose a significant amount of weight that were previously having to wear a CPAP device or 24/7 oxygen, they are so much more comfortable than they were in the past. My late husband's breathing and snoring got so bad before he passed that I had to move to the complete opposite side of the house. His death spurred me into losing 30 lbs, and just going from a little too overweight into a healthy weight range was amazing.
More energy, better sleep, less pain.

@@yourarchnemesis8453 You pay for it, to get a degree all you have to do is pay for it and show up. People who didn't go through higher education have some weird views about it, like it means something great. If you have a bachelor's degree, it means all you did was proved that you are literate and can organize yourself to do assigned tasks. All your postgraduate degrees prove is that you 1. had the financial security, stupid enough to get a loan, or got a handout to pursue many years of education, 2. you show up, you are a hard worker, 3. you have deepened your knowledge in a vary specific area. Higher education is not proof of intelligence, character, or wisdom. All they prove is that you are a hard worker and can follow instructions and have above average literacy, and most importantly you can put up with or identify with the snobbery. Doing my Bachelor's I really lost respect for academia as an institution of education. I have great faith in the scientific method and in research. But, universities being places of education, growth, and civics, is a complete joke. That got lost somewhere during the cold war, now it's just another business that is ran by people who score low enough on morality to want to do it.

I saw a presentation at my university about the sleep gap. It’s not related to race so much as trying to sleep in poor urban neighborhoods, and the loss of sleep begins in early childhood. Sleep is disrupted by greater ambient light and sound. Adding to that, police helicopters often hover over these areas and shine a searchlight down. The added fear of this, especially when this might be associated with late-night gunfire, adds to the stress of children that they are not safe, which impairs sleep even more.
The sleep gap is a serious issue and yes, it does generate a negative feedback loop of poor academic performance, less emotional regulation, and even mental illness. But they found that reducing ambient light and sound and violent crime can improve sleep outcomes. Even simple things like having trees along the street and keeping them clean and well maintained were correlated with better sleep among residents.
