Taz Mania is the name of several video games based on the Taz-Mania cartoon series. A 2D side-scrolling platform/adventure video game developed by Recreational Brainware and published by Sega on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis in 1992. Different games were also developed by NuFX and released on the Game Gear and by Technical Wave on the Master System. Other different Taz-Mania games were also published by Sunsoft and released on the SNES and 2 games on the Game Boy were made too. One from David A. Palmer Productions and published by Sunsoft and another from Beam Software and published by THQ.
The plot of the game was actually a twist on the usual "Save the World" story setting for many platform/adventure games. One evening, Hugh Tazmanian Devil was telling his three children (Taz, his sister Molly and his brother Jake) an intriguing tale: Once there were huge giant seabirds that laid giant eggs which could feed a family of Tazmanian devils for over a year. There are also legends that somewhere along the island of Tasmania, there is a Lost Valley, where the giant seabirds still nest. Taz becomes fascinated by the prospect of the potentially large omelet and leaves in search for one of those giant eggs. Thus, the player must direct Taz across various stages in search for the Lost Valley and its Giant Bird.
Players control Taz as he searches for the giant egg. Taz is able to jump, spin into a tornado and eat various objects. Spinning into a tornado allows Taz to defeat most enemies, as well as gain extra jump distance, knock away items and get past certain obstacles unharmed. Taz has the ability to eat most, if not all items throughout the level, such as health recovering food items, extra lives and continues. Eating some chilli peppers allows Taz to breathe fire in order to defeat stronger enemies, while eating a star grants Taz temporary invincibility. Other items, such as bombs and weed killer can be thrown at enemies, but will damage Taz if he eats them.
Recreational Brainware was led by 2 programmers - Burt Sloane and Jonathan Miller and was based in San Francisco. A semi-sequel to this game in design and concept but unrelated to the Taz-Mania cartoon series was also developed and released by Sega on the same platforms in between 1994 and 1996, entitled Taz in Escape from Mars. An official sequel titled Taz-Mania 2 was planned with an isometric viewpoint, but was never put into development.

TAZ gobbles up everything! Snacks like chilli peppers really burn up his enemies. The hungrier he is, the wilder he gets. Explosive TAZ blasts through 17 levels of high-energy adventure. He rides waterspouts, skids on ice and whizzes through mine shafts in a runaway cart! Villains from the Warner Bros. hit TV series join the mischief, including the Bush Rats, Francis X, Bushlad, Bull Gator and others.
To control Taz, press C to jump, B to spin, and the d-pad to move. You can't duck. To drop through a floor, press down + C. A makes Taz leer at you, and can be used to pick an item up. Then press A again to set it down. Or, press B to throw it away from you. If you pick up a bomb, throw it quickly before it explodes.
Looney Tunes is an American animated series of comedy short films produced by Warner Bros. from 1930 to 1969 during the golden age of American animation alongside its sister series Merrie Melodies. It was known for introducing Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Tweety, Sylvester, Granny, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, Marvin the Martian, Pepé Le Pew, Speedy Gonzales, Tasmanian Devil, Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote and many other cartoon characters.

It's crazy to me that this game can be completed in 35 minutes! I played for hours as a kid dying from those damn bombs and that ridiculously fast mine cart!
I thought I beat it as a kid, but, watching through this, I'm almost certain I could never get past the mine cart stage.

the difficulty you remember was the one you felt as a child, today you would probably spend the first day of gameplay, however, at the time, I never finished it

OMG... the mine cart lvl.... I'm 7 yrs old again, and I can hear my heart beating in my ears. That lvl had me scared as a kid!

This was my first Mega Drive game as a kid and coming from a broken NES clone, I thought the graphics were mindblowing for the time. I enjoyed rewatching it here.

Can get annoying or used as insult when falling tree top for example but yeah also it becomes unnoticed after time or when spinning most of the time faces to tap idol faces and the stone heads when they notice you clever little mechanic that

I ran through this to remember where I got stuck in the game. This was it for me too. Insane to see how to beat it even now.
This game is underrated. I never payed to much attention to it despite it being one of my childhood games but watching this it reminded me how much detail was put into every level to make them interesting
Watching this through brings back so many memories. Not sure if i finished it or not but definitely seem to remember the giant seagull so must have came close at some point. Maybe it was just my age but those games seemed to be so much more fun and addictive than the current games, but that's probably just the fun of being a child.
Man, I haven't seen this game in ages! I played this a few times as a kid and remember being impressed by the graphics. Though, the actual game proved to be more frustrating than fun. I think I only made it to the second level before I gave up. I didn't know the game was pretty short. It seems like the level difficulty is all over the place! The sound design was quite headache-inducing as well!
Also, it never makes sense that Taz goes so out of his way to take the longest, most inefficient path to the egg when he could have taken a more direct route, but I guess it _is_ a cartoon! 😋
What’s so awesome is that Taz in this has the same fighting style in multi versus!! Including bugs bunny from the game boy color games, too epic

This is the first game I ever completed as a child! It was a defining moment in my life because it was the first game I beat without the help of my older cousin. LOL
lol the graphics are way better than what was possible on NES from sprite size to the palette. But you’re right the sound was trash.

I was playing this game when i was 5 or 6, i don't know why but i am scared of this game's artstyle. I never played it alone, i only played if my cousins were coming to my house. Still nostalgic though

I didn't realize it as a kid but the whole concept of Taz-Mania is awesome. The actual state of Tasmania is about as far removed as you can get from civilization without living at the South Pole so it makes complete sense that someone would use it as a fantastical setting.

For the final boss, you can just up and spin from the right platform. You don't need to jump all the way to the left.

Definitely tool assisted, because I remember this game being clunky and very hard. Not complaining, just noting. I would rather watch a smooth run anyway, but it is weird to see Taz not die or even take a single hit despite how cheap this game is at setting you up to take damage or fall/one-hit die.

I'm trying to beat this game, can someone tell me what I'm supposed to do during those mine cart jumps? I keep falling to my death no matter what. This level doesn't seem fun... I can get here with 5 continues and about 5-7 lives on the current one, but then I just die, die, die.
Press Up button when you see obstacle in front of you
Ah, it was because I didn't realize you can speed up the cart by pressing right. Anyway, too late, I had already lost almost all my lives.

As a kid, the soundtrack unsettled me. It's one of the few games I can remember that had music that I absolutely couldn't stand. It ruined the game for me.
On the second mine level the lift that you have to jump on several times can someone drop under it then press B then please explain what happens
where did u saw it? in tasvideos? after falling, Taz somehow warps to upper right side of level. i don't know how it works exactly, from this place i randomly press left-right, jump and B to fall from ceiling
@@2GOOD Nah I discovered it myself just thought to myself I wonder whats under here thought at first it was a cut through or something but sometimes if you keep hold of B and press right the sound of him spinning fades out then the level rewinds then sometimes either drops you in a pit or if your lucky drops you back in another lift but sometimes the screen shakes like the computer doesnt understand what to do next its weird

I got this for xmas of 92 and I loved it. Even tho it was super hard and controlled like dog crap. And the music is terrible. I’m playing it right now and it’s sooo bad lol. It’s designed so terribly.

Like I said, his stupid behind should have known that that wasn't a regular egg, when the mother kept trying to defend it. That's why I think this game, overall, it's stupid. Again, I'm glad I didn't beat this game.
