One of THE BEST movies ever made.
This and the last of the mohicans
You mean The Best lol
Absolute, one of the best Shoot Outs
Best heist scene that I remember seeing in a theatre, that's for sure
I agree the best action movie ever for me. And Michael mann is to me the best director on and on Miami vice. Man the guy is a genius
One of Val Kilmer’s most badass roles.
He was okay but nowhere near the caliber of his performance in Tombstone...
The soundtrack of this film is so underrated, especially the ending score. Masterpiece.
Moby is the artist from that last scene
I used listen to it all the time. Lived in LA at the time. Felt surreal
A movie that can actually be rewatched over and over again w/o getting bored. That is a mark of a great film.
Well I get your point
Michael Mann has the best character development. You care about every character in this film, the cops, the crooks, the kids, the victims, great film.
Michael Mann has made 3 of my favorite movies.
HEAT, COLLATERAL, MIAMI VICE.
In HEAT.
You oughta check out The Insider, it's just as atmospheric and gripping as the rest of those movies...deserves to be mentioned among his best!
@@strahljdabsolutely, Russell Crowe is brilliant in this movie
Miami Vice is criminally underrated. The love story thats doomed before it even starts. Both of the lovers know the romance is on borrowed time and choose to go with it anyway. And its a pretty good crime film beautifully shot.
Thief is my favorite
This is absolutely incredible. Not just an amazing and timeless film, but the level of depth that Mann goes to create the worlds that he creates. One of a kind
Should have won all the Oscars that year!
Heat, Casino, Breavheart, Seven... Damn such a strong year...
Now a days you're lucky if you get one good movie in a year @@jmdi2703
Heat had zero nominations. Not one. A pig had seven more nominations than this movie did. Maybe it shouldn't have won but that nothing was nominated is crazy. Might be the biggest miss in Oscar history.
I'm not sure but I think Heat actually won an oscar for sound. Probably for the bank heist scene.@@apelike
@@btoss1Braveheart for Sound Effects and Apollo 13 for Sound... Google it... not a single nomination. Not even for the Golden Globes.
The 90s were a great decade for how the cinema could show both cops and criminals in the most humanizing light. Especially thanks to directors like Michael Mann with Heat.
In the parting shot, Vincent knows he found his equal and that he'll never witness such a crew again in his career. It was his peak moment and now it's over. He respects Neil and he's kind of sad it ended like it did. His psyche will never be the same afterwards. Moby's music is phenomenal in this scene. I always loved the soundtrack. At times you can hear gentle electric guitar notes with echo without sounding totally cliché.
It's also a love letter to Los Angeles. Just like in Collateral, it's the perfect urban setting. Almost a character in itself. I remember being fascinated by Heat as a young adult and with CZcams, I see how scrutinous people are with this movie now and it brings me joy.
Michael Mann did this again with Collateral in 2004. Traces of Mann's touches are in that one as well
Congrats, you noticed the most obvious things about the movie! Well done!
@@ClinicalDecisionYikesYT Bring something to the table instead of being a useless troll pal! People like you make comments' sections reek.
I STRONGLY recommend Michael Mann's sequel Heat 2. Incredible book that I couldn't put down. Rumor has it, that Michael is potentially putting a plan together to put it to film. 😮
Agreed
Everyone is dead .. heat 2 impossible
@@johnng5016 Yeah, you have no idea what you're talking about. Val Kilmer's son is a spitting image of him, and Heat 2 revolves around Chris Cheheriliss being on the run, so I can tell you never read the book. 🤡
@@johnng5016it isnt. I read the book and its a worthy sequel/prequel. More people survived than died.
@@johnng5016 Val didn’t die. Al Pacino didn’t die.
One of the greatest movies of all time.
Absolutely legendary!
The scene in the coffee shop between Robert De Niro and Al Pacino has become so iconic that it's actually shown in acting colleges and film schools to show them how to film a scene with two actors perfectly interacting
i've used it in acting workshops. leaves folks speechless
That scene was unrehearsed, Pacino wanted the interaction spontaneous, De Niro agreed...That's why he's an A lister
31:37 "working for Michael Mann is like taking a nice slow back swing and just following through" what a nice description
When Michael Mannn make a movie, you need to go see it.
Definitely top tier director.
I could watch this masterpiece 24/7 and never get tired of it
My favorite movie of all time!! It was and forever will be a masterpiece...
for 20 years i've been open to seeing a film that would become my new favorite. hasn't happened & i don't think it ever will. god, Heat is as good as it gets. i'm THRILLED that now people born after 1994 have embraced this pic for the masterpiece it is. changed the game.
Heat is THE perfect crime movie, unmatched to these days. Great plot, brilliant actors, and perfectly conducted by Michael Mann and his team,
The 90's, the last decade with great movies, music, and television.
I remember when my friends and I were on our way to see Pulp Fiction in Dec 1994, we decided to stop at a store to get some things...So I decided to look through the magazines and I literally lost my mind when I first found out that De Niro and Pacino were re-uniting for a crime film called "Heat" in a magazine called "Movieline".
Keanu Reeves' name was also listed with them but later dropped out and the role went to Val Kilmer.
At that time I was a HUGE De Niro/Pacino fan who grew up in the 80s watching films like Godfather, Raging Bull, Scarface, Goodfellas, Carlitos Way etc I had been already exited about De Niro, Pesci and Scorsese reuniting for Casino and now this..?? Mind blown!!!
Is reuniting the right word, for Pacino and De Niro in this one? Honest question
🧢
The making of a legend. Mann began creating this many years before, and after several variations that were brilliant in their own right, the culmination was born in the final masterpiece. 1995. Heat.
Collateral was a pretty damn good film later on, a bit similar. Intelligent movie making
@@gavintuesday4959 if Collateral was one bookend for Heat then Thief was certainly the other
This is one of the reasons I don’t watch regular tv , I watch CZcams when it gives you documentaries like this on my favourite movies and how they were produced. Who needs a uk 🇬🇧 tv licence when you have CZcams. A marvellous piece of video software .
Casting Val was a stroke of genius also…
Exactly 🙌
That diner scene alone is worth the watch brilliantly written acted and delivered just perfect
The level of dedication and insight that Mann takes is incredible!
Michael Mann has attention to detail that IMO is unparalleled...LOVE his movies. I agree this film will be a timeless classic, my top 3 favorite films probably #1
Jon Voight really did a great job as Nate. This role and Mickey Donovan are the pinnacle of his career.
Ya, but all of the cast was pretty strong too
he brought a quiet calm to it, like a chess player, he could see all the moves. Safest role in crime too: providing information and taking a cut.
Yes, I just watched it again recently and I thought his performance was brilliant. He really added a lot to the film.
Recently Heat has been popping up quite often in my mind for the past couple of weeks but i didn’t rush to watch it instead I’ve waited until i was completely free where I’d has no distractions and this time i could watch it all the way through and go back and rewatch a few scenes especially the whole bank robbery. On rewatching I’d forgotten how stunning Amy Brenneman (Eady) is especially her hair which makes her extra gorgeous
Always loved Heat. One of my favorites. After watching this, offering far more insight, only gives me much more appreciation for the movie.
L.A. have never been filmed more beautiful than in H.E.A.T. and Collateral 🙌🏻♥️#michaelmann
Absolutely👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I had the privilege of seeing this on opening night
It must have been fantastic.
Same here. Actually watched twice in a week. I continue to go back to it from time to time.
So glad that all of these pieces were put together. My favorite part of this BTS was actually the location scouts explaining their process. Not a side of filmmaking you often see.
One of the best movies of all time. I'm not one for violence, but love the complexity of humans on the fringe of mainstream society, so this film absorbs and and compels as it builds the tension. Cast is perfection, their characters are familiar and tragic and you want to know more but not intrude. Brilliant.
Word has it that Michael Mann is currently working on the screenplay for Heat 2. I have read the book, so we'll have to wait and see.
What is the book about? What is the story about? Most of the bad guys died.
@@mustsilm you should read it, it's ok. It's more about the younger years of Neail and Vincent Hanna characters .
@@mustsilmIt’s both a prequel and a sequel. It also covers what happens after the movie to Chris (Kilmer), who escapes.
To date, this is my favorite movie!
Everyone is at the top of their game in this movie.
I remember hearing the loud gunshots from the filming that day. It was a Sunday and I was in the library across the street. I didn't know what they filming or who was in it and didn't bother to find out because experience taught me asking the retired police security guys "what's the show?" always got me the " I dunno" response. Just remember how noisy it was...
I worked on the diner scene. Both actors were there and it took 3 nights to film
Please tell us more. Everything and anything you can remember about that scene.
The De Niro Pacino scene is one of the best scenes in cinema history.
I have a huge collection of movies. As far as crime thrillers go, I have HEAT at the #1 spot. Just a perfect movie. Every actor was on their A game.
Dennis Haysbert was the Lambert in SC Pandora Tomorrow
@beny1366 I didn't know that TBH. Good catch man!
@@samfisher2306 you're welcome! I just started to play the series again lol ! Man after almost 20 years the quality of the game is unbelievable! The AIs are still better than the modern ones
@beny1366 yes they are! I started playing them while in college in 2011. I still have all the games on all the platforms and just like you, I go back from time to time to replay them sequentially lol. Last time I played them all was in 2022 just b4 the FIFA world cup. I think I might go back this year. Which was your favorite if you don't mind?
@@samfisher2306 Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory were my favorites!
@12:44 Sizemore just speaking as a true unrestrained badass. 😆
Michael Mann "The Keep"
Another great movie with similar music .
Not a greenscreen in sight
I actually noticed that one scene had a green screen feel to it where the silhouettes were a bit too sharp compared to the background and felt composited. Then from IMDB, I learned that "for the sequence where Neil and Eady discuss a possible future together on a terrace at night, to capture the background "nightscape" with some degree of prominence in the shot, the actors were first filmed in front of a green screen, which was placed at the actual terrace, and the background was then filmed separately with the camera running at 3 frames per second in order to boost the exposure level to better complement the foreground activity."
Again, this is #MichaelMann who KNOWS his music 🎵 and crew and cast. He was and IS still the best in the world of cinema 🏆
I was very lucky to see this at the cinema way back in 1996
I was also lucky. Best shootout scene in any crime movie ever.
@@stevemoore3951 I was more amazed not only the shoot out scene but more the dialogue
I was very lucky to see this on XMAS when it first came out in Dec of 95.
I also saw Casino which came out a couple months earlier in 95 and Pulp fiction on Jan of 95.
The 90s is one of the best decades, if not the best of film-making and 1995 was my fav year.
I just love this movie two of my favourite actors De Niro & Al Pacino but I have to say all the actors done a brilliant job. The story line was amazing and sound track was also brilliant, the detail that Michael Mann brought into the film was fantastic such a wonder creator and director. What more can I say I can watch this movie over and over and never get tired of it just like God Father (1 & 2 ) Hunt For The Red October, The Sting, The Great Escape, to name a few of my favourites. Thank You For Making This Work Of Cinematic Brilliance. Cheer Irish Paul
best shootout in movie history!!
Great movie, one you can watch again and again it never gets old.
The Godfather & Michael Corleone having a father & son moment.
Thanx ❤to everybody Involved in this mastepeace ❤....ALWAYS A JOY WATCH IN AGAIN AND AGAIN
Oh man what a movie. Just great.
The best shoot out in film EVER!!
I loved the movie Tom Sizemore died last year, troubled life Great actor..
Heat 2, the book. So good ! Was so happy to find it.
GREAT THE MAKING OF HEAT (1995 ) FILM - IN HD !!!!
I was in prison when this movie came out. .I miss alot good movies an music that came out..I didn't hear about this movie tell 2010 .I'm still fascinated by this movie.
One of the best movies in my collection by far. Brilliant.🙏
Simply one of the greatest American movies ever made. Starts with the music and then solid in every other facet. The fact that is a crime saga is secondary really in my eyes but this is what makes it so compelling. Everyone is so all in.
Tiny correction, "One of the greatest movies in world cinema history."
For me yes but theres so much foreign language I haven't seen etc. I say American movie because its a style I guess.@@Mango62uk
damn this is not a making of, its a teaching lesson about life
Never seen this making-of. Thanks for sharing.
Exited about Heat 2
Can you believe this movie is on here!,,,,,
Minus "Band of the Hand", all of Mann's flm work is ageless.
One of the best movies ive seen 👌
My fave movie of all time
Wow! I never knew this movie was inspired by actual real cops and criminals
FOR ME, THE ACTION IS THE JUICE... fax!!!
I don't know how many times I have watched this movie. It really is one you can watch over and over like someone else pointed out.
And each time you watch it, you discover another hidden detail.
Everytime i sit and watch since 95,....the more it gets better and better ,... pacino and de niro
I've always maintained that this is a story about people with something to lose. Every character in the film loses something.
Great to see Eddie Bunker. The real deal...great writer ..great crook..i urfe you to read No beast so fierce..
Michael Mann is the best Action director ever 🙏🙏👍
I was at the main public library in downtown L.A., when Mann was filming the bank robbery shootout one weekend. I only heard it. I didn't see anyone. A security guard had told me what was going on. The gunfire was loud and insane.
Every single character including all the girlfriends, Pacino's kid, they all struggle getting through life. It's strange story.
Amazing video! Well done Sir.
"The action IS the juice".
I’ve always thought they missed a trick in not tying up the killing of Wayne gro with Pacino recognising this and letting de Niro go.
Fantastic! thank you for uploading.
A movie of symmetry.
Masterpiece!
Michael Mann was an incredible director. Small body of work, but some were truly special.
53:44 yes! I loved that song in that moment!
"Was" an incredible director? He's not dead lol 😂In fact, Heat 2 (which is apparently mostly a prequel but also will have sequel parts) has been in development for a while, is supposed to shoot this year, and will hopefully be released in 2025.
What a brilliant piece of content - thank you so much for posting 👏👊💪👍
A top 10 film that defined the '90s.
This video is so good. Thanks for posting.
Great fiction comes from truth and reality . Smart to adapt this story and incorporate his work as gorilla journalist . He knew how shootouts sounded and adrenaline felt . A brilliant film maker
Let's hope the sequel is good
I watch it several times per year
THE best movie. Ever.
Very underrated film. One of the best.
underrated YT comments are overrated.
Fantastic movie, volume high!
Love this film amount of times watched it just stupid
This is a GREAT flick‼️. And i got my HEAD❗🗣️~ ALL the way UP~ IT..‼️
Great video. Thanks for this Mango.
Always happy to know that other 'Heat' fans are enjoying this. Thanks.
This and Tombstone are prime examples of why the academy should have retroactive awards for films that were criminally overlooked
Incredible Acting like no other Film !
nobodys ever topping heat
This could be an epic tv show now…
Heat = De Niro
RIP sizemore
for me - and really i watched nearly every heist or ganstermovie uncountable times - THIS is the best Movie ever. Bottom line
LOL on Ravenite Social Club. My first trip to Manhattan it was my first stop.
