From the explosive opening scenes and the ferocious theme song (which didn't contain the title of the film!) with Chris Cornell (RIP) shrieking "YOU KNOW MY NAME!" to the brutal life-or-death combat scenes, to heartbreak and betrayal...here's a James Bond who doesn't straighten his tie after surviving a fight but instead (and much more realistically) takes a couple of shots of hard stuff and binds up his wounds *** WHAT A MOVIE!!! ***

Not that my opinion is of any particular worth, but for me, this was a better Bond film than all those that came before or after. Craig's Bond was gritty, yet human. Mikkelsen's villain was the best ever, an actor able to show his character's fear. Eva Green was the best Bond woman, with her own inner conflicts. Each of them able to show their humanity, so that despite all the stunts and larger-than-life story, you could believe in them. Great script and production team. It is the only Bond film I have watched again, several times. Perfection!
Totally agree! Though every one of Daniel's Bond films are very good, Casino Royale was a gripping, eye opening, piece of art. When ever I decide to watch a Bond film, Casino Royale is always the first that comes to mind.

The plot of the movie wasn't about some grand scheme to take over the world or mass destruction on an unthinkable scale. It was a human level story focused on collaring a single man, a financier to various terrorist factions around the world. This is what I think real intelligence work is actually about: locating a single target and neutralizing them. With the exception of the highly unrealistic bio medical/tracking implant in Bond's arm they resisted the trap of using too much high tech wizardry to get Bond out of tough situations preferring to let him use his training and instinct to solve problems. I too had reservations about Daniel Craig playing Bond but I think he did a great job, all things considered. This is one of the best Bond films period and I never get tired of watching it.
I realise Daniel Craig has moved on to do other roles. However, he will always be my sole James Bond. His Casino Royale is the best James Bond film of them all!
And the expectations for him in the role were quite low. They save the iconic line for last ("The name's Bond. James Bond.") and we all cheered, "Yes you are!"

I’ve said this before , but always kind of loved how this film and the casting of d Craig was slated before it even was released. And the rest is history no more needs to be said , I still think he’s the best bond so far! All the movies were great as regards production, plot etc etc, the biggest issue they have now is how to progress from here with a new bond etc

The silliness of r Moore, and the daft comedy American cop, but still enjoyed those films as a kid. Man with the golden gun and or live and let die were the best of that era Brosnan was great, but lost me at invisible cars etc. all the bonds had the great moments , but craig is the best for me.

Easily the best Bond. The movie stood as class in its' own right, regardless of franchise. Daniel Craig was an inspired choice. A natural, closely followed by Timothy Dalton. Also, the best opening song and titles "you know my name" RIP Chris Cornell. Absolutely love Casino Royale

I think DC was brilliantly cast. As a younger man he did not have the physicality for it. He also has raptor eyes which is perfect for the character of bond, the double O license just simmers below the surface. I have thoroughly enjoyed every DK and PB film. 🇨🇦
Daniel Craig as James Bond in Skyfall. I watched it when I was 5. Completely changed my life. Made me want to be Bond. I’m now 16. I still want to be his Bond. Skyfall will always be my favourite film and I think is one of the greatest films ever. But Casino Royale is a great film in its own right. And without Casino Royale, Bond would never have the cold, disconnected, discontented, realistic, depressed, emotional, but sense of justice and love of country (and M) characteristics that he displayed in Skyfall. Daniel Craig is also clearly the best all-around actor to ever play Bond. The fact he said he just played Bond as if he himself was Bond allowed his films to feel the most realistic. Some may not like the more realistic nature of his Bond, but it makes me feel the greatest connection to his Bond out of them all. He saved the franchise, revolutionised what is possible for actors and has made the challenge of whoever the next Bond is even harder than those who came after Connery. Thank you for all that you have done, the legendary Daniel Craig.

I remember sitting down at the cinema to watch the opening and just going WOw at the stunts and the grittiness, the less polished action scenes made it stand out immediately as the best start sequence. The rest of the movie didn’t disappoint
I remember when Casino Royale was released, sitting in the cinema with 10-15 people, and ALL the women ( when Daniel came out of the ocean) going WOW!!!! I laughed at the noise/reaction
I remember Daniel at the premier of that movie. He was so nervous about it. I think he thought if people didn't like it his career would be over... He is a fantastic actor. I don't think he had to be, but he likes things to be right. Very professional 🏆🥇❤

I wasn't sure about Craig when I first heard he was the new Bond. I'd been a fan of the Bond franchise all my life and grew up with Roger Moore as Bond. Craig quickly became my faviourite Bond of all time and I can't see anyone else living up to the role the way Craig did. I watch all the Craig films once a year.
The best Bond films.. there is nothing.. _nothing_ else like them. It's a thing unto itself. I've always been awestruck by the realism, grit, unpredictability, and uniqueness of the action scenes. I've tried to imagine who ARE the mysterious unsung wizards behind it all. Well there they are, there it is. Calling them fully committed no-BS serious craftsmen feels insufficient. Bond crews are an entirely different breed altogether aren't they. A cut above.
I was not à 007 fan movies. Seing a picture of D. Craig I thought, OMG! he looks much more like a russian spy than a James Bond. Didn't fit. But when I saw Casino Royale... Waouh, what a movie ! so much more than a James Bond film Daniel Craig made such a great job! I've seen Casino Royale and Skyfall many times. Daniel Craig is the ultimate 007
I think, more than anything else, it was Sebastian and his (to me, superhuman) Parkour skills at the beginning that made this my favourite Bond movie of them all. It took me the next two movies to change my favourite Bond from Pierce Brosnan to Daniel Craig though. Now, though, I think it's a bit of a tie between the two. Also, love the narration (Rob Brydon, I think?) for this video.
This is by far Daniel Craig's best Bond movie. The plot is reasonable to follow unlike some of the movies that followed. The actors that were selected are terrific. Love Mads Mikkelsen as the villain. Eva Green is so sexy without even trying. And, can't say enough good things about Sebastien Foucan. Man, can that guy fly with grace!
I'm just watching the Craig Bonds. He was born to play Bond as much as Vivian Leigh was born to play Scarlett. Best Bonds since the Connery era but w added technology and a fresh attitude.
Dr No was made in 1962 with some primitive movie equipment. The Bond films got better with Thunderball in 1965 with great underwater camera work. One of my favorites is Live and Let Die with the boat chase scene. Roger Moore added a lot of humor. Live and Let Die had some great characters, especially Jane Seymour and Sheriff JW Pepper. Pierce Brosnan with Xenia Onatopp was great stuff. But with the scenes in Casino Royale and Eva Green probably made this the best Bond Movie.

I never saw Judy's return to the role as an issue, because for me in the audience, it meant the previous James Bond had a final mission and retired, and we just happened not to have it on film. I saw Bond and 007 to be like the Dread Pirate Roberts in Princess Bride; a persona adopted by a new man every 10-15 years. By the time he gets 00 status, Bond is already supposed to have been a basic agent, navy commander, before that, navy cadet before that, in college for a few years before that, and so every man that would even theoretically be eligible to be a 00 in Fleming's world would arrive in his mid thirties and have a good 10 or more year run and leave to either become the new "M", go to another desk job at the agency, retire, or die it seems.

Mads made the film playing Le Chiffre. Then they completely dropped the ball in the sequel with Dominque Greene as the baddy, which was a horrible miscast.

This Bond film was the best of the whole series--Connery included of course. "Skyfall" had a lot of ridiculous plotholes even though it was wonderfully filmed.
What are his 'unique looks'? Meaning he's Blond? Shorter? I could never understand some of the backlash with casting Daniel Craig! Craig is one of my favorite Bonds! Sean Connery will always be my #1 Bond and Craig is also a favorite. We can only imagine in Sean Connery could have done 'Casino Royal' as the first 007 film!
Honestly, Craig being shorter than the other Bonds is a pro, because a fighter shouldn´t be too big when fighting in tight areas like in the hallway of the Casino Royale. Being shorter also means there is a lesser surface for the enemy to attack and a shorter fighter isn´t knocked down as easily, as their centre of gravity is lower.
Thanks for telling about the great guy who played the vilain in the best-ever-chase-scene at the start of the film : the French « free runner » - anyone could see it had to be someone really special, and an artist
"Casino Royal" and "Skyfall" were absolutely brilliant movies. The others with Craig are forgettable … especially the last one that really was a grotesque disaster.
While I agree that Daniel Craig makes a superb Bond....closer to the ruthless figure in the Ian Fleming books....(And interesting to see it from the perspective of a 'Beginner Bond" as it were ) I can't for the life of me understand why the James Bond theme (possibly one of the most recognizable pieces of movie music on the planet) is not used throughout the film?!! In all other Bond movies that theme was always the precursor to action sequences...and indeed the use of that theme certainly added to the action scenes. In my opinion Cubby Broccoli would be aghast at it being left out.
whatever bond is your favorite this movie changed all bond movies and movies in general for the better with best opening scenes ever especially the chase scene that introduced the world to parkour, it isn't exactly opening scene but damn near enough. Every bond had it after and every bond after craig should have that huge chase scene as well. just like how OldBoy changed fight scenes with the one shot hallway scene. both movies are masterpieces

Easily the best Bond. The movie stood as class in its' own right, regardless of franchise. Daniel Craig was an inspired choice. A natural, closely followed by Timothy Dalton.

I think DC was brilliantly cast. As a younger man he did not have the physicality for it. He also has raptor eyes which is perfect for the character of bond, the double O license just simmers below the surface. I have thoroughly enjoyed every DK and PB film. 🇨🇦

Daniel Craig as James Bond in Skyfall. I watched it when I was 5. Completely changed my life. Made me want to be Bond. I’m now 16. I still want to be his Bond. Skyfall will always be my favourite film and I think is one of the greatest films ever. But Casino Royale is a great film in its own right. And without Casino Royale, Bond would never have the cold, disconnected, discontented, realistic, depressed, emotional, but sense of justice and love of country (and M) characteristics that he displayed in Skyfall. Daniel Craig is also clearly the best all-around actor to ever play Bond. The fact he said he just played Bond as if he himself was Bond allowed his films to feel the most realistic. Some may not like the more realistic nature of his Bond, but it makes me feel the greatest connection to his Bond out of them all. He saved the franchise, revolutionised what is possible for actors and has made the challenge of whoever the next Bond is even harder than those who came after Connery. Thank you for all that you have done, the legendary Daniel Craig.

It's amazing that this BTS had the grace and good sense to let Sébastien Foucan speak at length about freerunning, and his experience of working on the film.
This was a near perfect bond film.
I remember sitting down at the cinema to watch the opening and just going WOw at the stunts and the grittiness, the less polished action scenes made it stand out immediately as the best start sequence. The rest of the movie didn’t disappoint

I wasn't sure about Craig when I first heard he was the new Bond. I'd been a fan of the Bond franchise all my life and grew up with Roger Moore as Bond. Craig quickly became my faviourite Bond of all time and I can't see anyone else living up to the role the way Craig did. I watch all the Craig films once a year.

The best Bond films.. there is nothing.. _nothing_ else like them. It's a thing unto itself. I've always been awestruck by the realism, grit, unpredictability, and uniqueness of the action scenes. I've tried to imagine who ARE the mysterious unsung wizards behind it all.
Well there they are, there it is. Calling them fully committed no-BS serious craftsmen feels insufficient. Bond crews are an entirely different breed altogether aren't they. A cut above.

Casino Royale was great, that's probably why I keep making excuses for the other Craig Bond films.
But those days are over, I wont excuse them.
The construction scene was the best chase scene in the best Bond movie.
I think, more than anything else, it was Sebastian and his (to me, superhuman) Parkour skills at the beginning that made this my favourite Bond movie of them all. It took me the next two movies to change my favourite Bond from Pierce Brosnan to Daniel Craig though. Now, though, I think it's a bit of a tie between the two.
Also, love the narration (Rob Brydon, I think?) for this video.
This is by far Daniel Craig's best Bond movie. The plot is reasonable to follow unlike some of the movies that followed. The actors that were selected are terrific. Love Mads Mikkelsen as the villain. Eva Green is so sexy without even trying. And, can't say enough good things about Sebastien Foucan. Man, can that guy fly with grace!

I'm just watching the Craig Bonds. He was born to play Bond as much as Vivian Leigh was born to play Scarlett. Best Bonds since the Connery era but w added technology and a fresh attitude.
Dr No was made in 1962 with some primitive movie equipment. The Bond films got better with Thunderball in 1965 with great underwater camera work. One of my favorites is Live and Let Die with the boat chase scene. Roger Moore added a lot of humor. Live and Let Die had some great characters, especially Jane Seymour and Sheriff JW Pepper. Pierce Brosnan with Xenia Onatopp was great stuff. But with the scenes in Casino Royale and Eva Green probably made this the best Bond Movie.

I never saw Judy's return to the role as an issue, because for me in the audience, it meant the previous James Bond had a final mission and retired, and we just happened not to have it on film. I saw Bond and 007 to be like the Dread Pirate Roberts in Princess Bride; a persona adopted by a new man every 10-15 years. By the time he gets 00 status, Bond is already supposed to have been a basic agent, navy commander, before that, navy cadet before that, in college for a few years before that, and so every man that would even theoretically be eligible to be a 00 in Fleming's world would arrive in his mid thirties and have a good 10 or more year run and leave to either become the new "M", go to another desk job at the agency, retire, or die it seems.
Daniel Craig definitely changed the franchise and made it his own.

I still remember all the bellyaching about the latest Bond being blond, as if that was going to ruin the franchise. It was silly then, and is even sillier now. Casino Royale is one of my favorite films, period - just a classic.

This Bond film was the best of the whole series--Connery included of course. "Skyfall" had a lot of ridiculous plotholes even though it was wonderfully filmed.
Clive Owen could have pulled it off but Daniel Craig is the Ultimate Bond!
What are his 'unique looks'? Meaning he's Blond? Shorter? I could never understand some of the backlash with casting Daniel Craig! Craig is one of my favorite Bonds! Sean Connery will always be my #1 Bond and Craig is also a favorite. We can only imagine in Sean Connery could have done 'Casino Royal' as the first 007 film!
Honestly, Craig being shorter than the other Bonds is a pro, because a fighter shouldn´t be too big when fighting in tight areas like in the hallway of the Casino Royale.
Being shorter also means there is a lesser surface for the enemy to attack and a shorter fighter isn´t knocked down as easily, as their centre of gravity is lower.

While I agree that Daniel Craig makes a superb Bond....closer to the ruthless figure in the Ian Fleming books....(And interesting to see it from the perspective of a 'Beginner Bond" as it were ) I can't for the life of me understand why the James Bond theme (possibly one of the most recognizable pieces of movie music on the planet) is not used throughout the film?!! In all other Bond movies that theme was always the precursor to action sequences...and indeed the use of that theme certainly added to the action scenes. In my opinion Cubby Broccoli would be aghast at it being left out.
