OMG, I don't think I can remember ever an industrial song going into Eurovision? Hope Hatari wins now! That would be epic!
The Bundesvision Song Contest (inner-German adaptation of the contest by Lena's mentor Stefan Raab) was won by an industrial group in 2007, though ("Oomph" with "Träumst du?"). They performed that song together with Marta Jandova (Czech Republic 2015). So even though Marta didn't make the final in 2015, she actually won the contest within Germany.

Hatari truly have something captivating. Many people who don't even like this kind of industrial synth punk stuff have come up and said they enjoy them or at least want them in the main show. It makes me honestly so happy and I hope that Iceland will also recognize this and vote. :( The group knows what they're doing and will be entertaining both on stage and in interviews!

Hatari all THE way! Strangely I find this so appealing and attractive that it would make me to want to study Icelandic. They wake up part of me that I didn't know I have. They could win Eurovision and finally bring trophy home. They are edgy, outstanding, original, pushing the bar up, they could beat Italy and Russia who will be probably top favourite. I really feel sorry that Ukraine is not with us because their performance was high quality as Hatari. Hera has beautiful classic song that I enjoyed, but it that has feeling of old times Eurovision hits and it was heard before.

I will see them live Saturday night!!!! Although not my taste, Hatari have definitely grown on me quickly. I’ll vote for them because they are the best entry of the bunch, and at least it’s not a boring ballad like the rest of this year seems to be, so we need to wake everyone up 😂. It’s obviously this or Hera, and it’s gonna be close (juries will sway Hera, televote will be Hatari), so it’s a matter of “how much ahead” Hatari can get in the televote, which is promising but not guaranteed based on Iceland’s history.

It's so interesting to see people turned on to new genres of music. I've been listening to music like this for about 20 years now. People always compare this to Rammstein, basically because it's the only reference point that most people have for "industrial" music. I personally think the beats in this song sound more like Front 242 and there are many many goth/industrial/ebm bands that use the harsh vocal distortions. I hope people won't see this as a "novelty" entry, there are hundreds of thousands of people all over the world who listen to and appreciate music just like this, and I don't think my music taste is a "novelty".
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I'm really glad so many people appreciate this song, but I think a lot of people do see it as just a novelty, like some weird once-off, and don't realise there are entire genres devoted to this type of music. Oh well. What can you do, honestly.

A "simple" interpretation og "Hatrið mun sigra" could be :
1. The revelry was unrestrained
The hangover is endless
Life is meaningless
The emptiness will get us all
Society and individuals, both in Iceland and in the world, are drowning in advertisements that tell us what we need to be happy. We all take part in this, we need to have the best and the most. We hold on to worldly things to seek happiness. Life seems to have ceased to have any purpose yet to be the coolest or most elegant, with all the finest and most expensive stuff. For some reason, we're ready to go a long way to follow the stereotypes that social media and advertising push us. If we do not text them then we do not feel perfected and if we can follow them then it goes down to the bottom of an empty void that never fills up. It does not matter what we eat a lot in this consumption, we never build our happiness on the basis of consumption and become thin. It is not possible to serve two masters, God and mammon.
2. Hate will prevail
Happiness will end
For it is an illusion
A treacherous pipe dream
As mentioned earlier, we are ready to go pretty far for the consumption of worldly things. Fraud, cheating, dishonesty, immoral legal hooks, even violence and, in the worst cases, war. What does it deliver? The party has been created and the pursuit of happiness and joy we experienced before the victory has disappeared. This is not really happiness and happiness, it is simply based on the wrong foundation, it is based on sand not on the rock. The joy in this context is the illusion that we seek over and over again without any definite real joy.

Here Is probably God speaking directly without using his pipes. God has watched the suffering and is suffering with us. He has given us all the tools and opportunities to build happiness on a solid foundation, but we do not want to accept them.

All the worldly things that are pushed to us that are needed to be happy are the illusion of all sides. Yet we believe this is what it takes, but we don't need any things to be happy. But no one takes out the distress that accompanies the aftermath except for self. Although we continue to escape the emptiness of emotions by filling our lives with worldly quality, it will eventually reach us and we will collapse into emptiness.
5. Hate will prevail

Will arise from the ashes

As I said at the beginning, the poem has an individual and social angle that can be read from the beginning of the poem. In this case, however, a small social angle can still be seen before. Here are the conflicts in Europe that have been characterized by class violations, we and the others, wars between peoples and countries. We are ready, as individuals and communities, to lie to ourselves and others to justify our sins to ourselves. But here is the hope in the poem. If we do not get the intake of intent, the only weapon we have against hatred, which is love and love, will disappear. Love your God with all your heart and neighbor as yourself. Hatari are one of my favorites. I really like both of the vocals one is all yelling aggressively and the other one so soft high vocals. Also I love industrial music since it’s one of the genres I listen to when I first started going goth clubbing back in 2009/2010.
I went to the same high school as the drummer and blonde singer, they are two years appart but still became friends. Also one of the women is the drummers girl friend. The song has started to grow on me though. I started out hating it but now I like it.
